Admittedly a bit of an old school stickler for tradition in some ways and I’ve never been to a live show with the LED board but in live shows I have been to, I’ve seen the ring as a box and actually looks smaller in person from where I’ve sat. I don’t think a shiny LED board would change that for me, seems like needless bells and whistles to me but if others dig it, that’s cool I guess.

It’s probably more tv presentation than anything.

Probably but they do that and cut back on pyro? #oldmancloudGrampaSimpsonrant

I’m not really a huge fan of the ringposts either but I’m guessing (and feel free for someone to correct me wrong) covering probably a health and safety thing safer than the bare ring posts as well as presentation.

I just liked the old ring #tradition

I guess I haven't seen their budget to know if them cutting back on pyro and the LED ring are comparable? I also think they have to work something out with the fire dept and added insurance using pyro in general, which I doubt they have to worry about that. Plus they still do pyro.

They are doing way more Pyro than what they used to. I remember for a time Mania was about it for pyro.

This was more a pisstake on when they cut back the pyrotechnics for ages. Should have explained that better, my bad.

Yes! Combined with that gorgeous Bohemian Rhapsody-inspired intro to his song, the whole thing was *chef's kiss*.

Don't forget the often forgotten 'Blood Brother' theme off The Music Vol.4 that he only came out to maybe once...

100% agree. My favorite is definitely "Just Close Your Eyes" by Story of the Year. There really was an incredible stretch of music WWE used that killed it.

And then TNA kind of manipulating it like they did with Victoria's music when she came over, that version was good too. Honestly, other than CM Punk this is the only good entrance music AEW has. All in all, most original music in wrestling right now is not very good at all.

When they first brought out the LED ring sides instead of the curtains, I thought they were planning to make a new toy ring that would light up and play entrance themes.

That would've been pretty sweet. Thanks to my ex-father in law I have the entrance set up from the Attitude Era that would play The Rock, X-Pac, Austin, etc. I just don't have anyone but The Rock to make it actually work lol.

Forget who it was, but someone was mad that Franky Monet got released, saying that she packed up and moved her whole life to Orlando for this job and then not even six months later she gets released.

So, WWE is supposed to keep everyone on board so not to inconvenience their life? Man I could go an apply for a job in California, move everything there, and then maybe the job just doesn't work out. Well shit now what? You dust yourself off and try again, try again (RIP Aaliyah I miss you).

Don't want anyone to lose a job, but it's a reality that happens in every industry. Look, yes WWE is dumb for releasing Strowman, Nese, and Kross (those three could have been the new Shield if WWE were smart), but whatever.

It's the society we live in. Lana literally said there should be something in your contract where you can't be released.

People get up and relocate all the time. My brother and his family moved up to Cincinnati because his wife was promoted to a new position at her job. They were there 2 months and the department liquidated and she was out of a job. They had to break their lease and move back to live with her parents for a little bit.

I know that CM Punk's Killswitch Engage theme was originally going to be Orton's but they wound up not changing Orton's music and the rest is history. I actually prefer the Killswitch entrance over In Living Colour but both are dope.

Can't say I'm surprised about Top Dolla. Heard he was politicking already saying he didn't want to do jobs. The rest of Hit Row is surprising though. Poor Swerve. Shane Thorne seems talented and wasn't given a chance.

They really screwed people like Maverick and Hit Row too. Just called up to the main roster, so now they have 90 day no competes instead of 30.

Honestly surprised T-bar, Mace, and Elias haven't been released. Have T-bar and Mace been doing anything? I know Elias hasn't.

What about Drew Gulak? Is he just chasing the 24/7 title around?

Is there really a point in getting behind any talent that isn't Reigns, the Usos, Orton, or New Day? NXT is just a group of Future Endeavors waiting for their turn and everybody else is just mired in mediocre feuds and even worse storytelling.

I wouldn't watch a show if I knew it wouldn't last past the first season. Why should I get behind talent that isn't supported and is going to be released anyways?

Holy crap. Absolutely stunned that Hit Row got let go. Was also a pretty big fan of Nox so that's a bummer.

This shit's got to be just killing morale.

Pretty heartbroken over Nox. She's genuinely great and could've been a great underdog babyface. Once she was healthy they kind of just did what they do with NXT call ups.

Hit Row though... man... huge swing and a miss on that. They could've been huge.

I was loving Top Dolla especially too carrying three people at a time round the ring like shopping bags.

Strong quarterly results, followed by more cuts. All signs point towards a sale of the company.

Christ, this company. Always been a Jo Mo guy and gutted for Nox, Hit Row and all of them, really.

Like was said already, what must the morale be like in this company?

Hit Row was the only people they were doing anything with but apparently from the dirt sheets they were rubbing people the wrong way.

I don't really count jomo meditating as anything of value.

I don't really know who Knox is. Didn't she used to tag with Shotzi?

I mean Drake wasn't ever going to go anywhere. I'm surprised they hired him back.

The rest I have no clue on who they were.

82 releases this year. They had a bloated roster. Ratings are staying in the same ballpark even with aew hitting a big stride so I'm assuming they are taking that into consideration where as before it seemed they were locking up talent to keep people away.

If WWE is taking a harder stance on talent good for them but they need to apply this logic to their booking committee as well. Some talent can make shit smell like roses but 90% can't. Besides, the angles are what hook the crowd.

I blame the booking more when it comes to JoMo. He could have been made something of value, a solid midcard face who can certainly work after he and Miz split up but yeah they gave him that dumb meditating gimmick and now released him.

I'll be honest, he was still with the Miz the last time I watched.

Miz turned on him but bar a throwaway match on Raw, nothing more came of the feud. Then they gave him a gimmick where he meditates backstage and now he's gone.

Great response video by Drake Maverick. I have a feeling the majority of the released talent feels a sense of freedom amongst the fear and sorry they initially felt when they got the news.

I hope every person released this year finds good gigs for themselves and continue to pursue their passions. WWE is not the end all of wrestling, it seems more like a car that's spinning their tires in the mud. It's a chance to move forward and do more than what you've been allowed.

It might be easier to look at who is safe at this point...

    Reigns
    Orton
    Becky

    erm...

Not that hard to believe that Johnny Drip Drip was finally shut off, because as a longtime ring vet, he had to be earning more than some of the others on the roster who were actually getting used.

I wouldn't watch a show if I knew it wouldn't last past the first season. Why should I get behind talent that isn't supported and is going to be released anyways?
Riddle, Priest, and Bianca are a couple of great examples of people to get behind. And Cameron Grimes has become must-watch.

    That was just Top Dolla.

Nox was on NXT and then tagged with Shotzi.

Shane Thorne was Slapjack. Jaxon Ryker had that feud with Elias where he was supposed to be the face. He was in Forgotten Sons in NXT. Ashantee and Swerve are the other members of Hit Row if you didnt know.

So Ryker beats the shit out of Elias and then they do nothing with him and then gets released while Elias has been out for months and still signed. why did Elias lose again?

48 and 54. AJ’s 44 as well just to add another vet example to the mix.

I’d probably say anywhere from the early 20s (maybe a few younger than that) to maybe mid-30s is about average for wrestlers who aren’t vets I reckon. I’m 39 and I feel a bit old watching the guys so much younger.

In WWEs mind it seems like it for people that aren't already big stars.

WWE has always been about the youth movement, for the most part. We can nitpick that statement but for the most part it's true.

I just think nowadays we see more talent in their late 30's-40's because unfortunately wrestling's popularity dipped quite a bit so we're not getting the late 20's early 30's megastars so to speak.

To be fair, 90% of this talk is based on what dirtsheets report. I've yet to hear a single talent give us anything suggesting age is a factor.

The Miz, LA Knight, Dexter Lumis, all in late 30s/early 40s. You'd think a guy like the Miz is a lifer but so many recently released I thought were lifers too.

I still think The Miz is a lifer. He loves doing media for them and his TV show gets them extra publicity.

I just don't think age is really an issue. That's why you still plenty of people in their late 30's into their 40's still in WWE. They're not cutting AJ Styles they're cutting people that are expendable. They cut Bray Wyatt...he's like 32. They still have Tamina, she's like 50 now.

For years we've talked about how bloated the roster is, how Vince is keeping talent hostage in catering, and now that they're taking our advice it's "They're going to sell, they're cutting people that are 30+, etc." Naw. They have plenty of people and some that are still are questionable (Madcap Moss, Tamina, Dana Brooke, Cedric Alexander, Shelton Benjamin, etc) Give it time though.

They're not cutting AJ Styles because he's already a huge star. You can't say the same for LA Knight or Dexter Lumis.

I also said that they're cutting people they find expendable. Maybe they don't see LA Knight, Dexter Lumis, and others that fall into that false narrative people are trying to spin as expendable.

WWE need to think about cutting their writers and bookers tbh, they can cut talent all they want but with the current people writing the show it ain't gonna change a thing.

*I get that this might just be a Vince issue where he's the one who needs cutting ultimately but that's not happening.

Ultimately that's what it is (Vince). Just like a sports team, sometimes it's not the coach, the players, it's the owner and his decisions that trickle down to what you see on the field/court. And I also think it's a mixed bag. JR and anyone else who matters has always said it's not just who's booking but the roster as well. Who's to say that any of these wrestlers would be mega stars like Austin and The Rock if we could transport them back in time OR take McMahon, Russo, Cornette, etc. from the 90's and bring them here.

Hard to say because even back then in the 80's and 90's, we still had a lot of bullshit that just seems like it was super over because of the ratings during certain periods of time.

I seriously think all we have is the Jimmy Snuka theory. That Vince is taking care of Jimmy's daughter. Why else would she still be there? We can't even use the charity argument lol.

If I could, I would remember Ric Flair from his early 1990s WWE days. I didn't watch WCW, but he deteriorated fast from his WWE 2001 return - present.

I didn’t mind him for the longest time because it was only the occasional appearance.

We had that angle with Charlotte, where he was an item with Lacey, which was super awkward and uncomfortable. Then the stories started coming out about him being a shithead. If you put 2+2 together, it shouldn’t surprise you; the whole Nature Boy gimmick plus the kayfabe of that generation of wrestlers meant there probably was some fire there.

Dude is north of 70, I want him to just go away and spend his final years hanging with that fellow shithead at Mar-a-Lago.

The real fans knows that the WWE kept Flair out of prison, have gone above and beyond to make sure he is financially stable and he just keeps wanting to be the Nature Boy. He's admitted it that he just can't let go even at 70+

Even in his prime in the 80s...other wrestlers who were in their prime during what was the heyday of crazy behavior were like "Ric needs to slow down". And it wasn't because of drugs.

Think about the level he had to be running at back then to give other wrestlers pause

The weird part about all of this is that he just seems pissed off that they let him go. Should he have been on the payroll for life? I can't speak on that. But nothing from Flair sounds like he should be this pissed off. To the point where he's literally saying he wants AEW-a company who hasn't done a single fucking thing for Ric, to honor him in passing NOT the WWE. The WWE, the same company who made sure the IRS didn't come for his ass and put him in prison with Wesley Snipes. The same WWE who wrote countless 6 figure checks to keep him out of debt. The same WWE who gave him the send off of all send off's only for him to shit all over it.

I am not sure it is about the money, but given his track record it might be. I think Ric still wants to be on TV every week, and to be on the road hangin with the boys, drinking, etc. I don't think he - and many in his generation - ever accepted the fact that the way they used to treat women just wasn't cool, especially by today's standards.

I definitely think Flair wanted to still be on tv every week, probably even beat Roman Reigns. I just don't get the extreme nature of his comments.

I'll be honest, never really been a Ric Flair guy because he wore out his welcome. I struggled to enjoy him in WCW during the nWo peak, but he was a necessity. His booking WCW after Fall Brawl 1997 was just tough to watch. They went to the well one too many times. I enjoyed certain stuff here and there when he came back to the WWE, that first year or so was pretty solid then Evolution was what it was. But that was over 15 years ago and since then it's just been meh, not really my thing because I wasn't a Ric Flair guy. I respect him for sure, he's a legend, Mt Rushmore of Wrestling, iconic in every way.

    I just don't get it.

That's a shame. Especially after that Stone Cold episode. I had a feeling after Matt Hardy's tweet yesterday or the day before that it wasn't good in regards to him being sent home. I hoped for the best because that is one of my absolute favorites....

    Shit.

Probably not altogether shocking really but thought they would’ve given him one last hurrah push on the way out.

Him and Reigns could’ve been a great feud.

Given his history and the recent events, can't help but draw conclusions and think it was a last strike and you're out type situation. Real shame as it seemed like he had his head on straight in the Stone Cold interview and maybe the wheels were in motion for that final hurrah. Certainly wish him the best.

Super rumor mill says WWE asked him to go to rehab and in true Jeff Hardy fashion he declined so he was released. He's going to wind up dead. Still trying to live that outdated wrestler lifestyle.

One of my all time favourites. One of a few proper 'mark out' moments for me when he won the WWE Title for the first time in that triple threat match at Armageddon 2008.

    Wish him all the best.

I think it all adds to his mystique. But I do think if he had his shit together, and the company could trust him, at the very least they'd be going balls out on merch. All 4 of my kids love the Hardy Boyz.

This. If Jeff doesn't get clean for good, he's not going to make it. In Matt's statement he said "this isn't my business". Yes it is. If they haven't already, Jeff's family needs to step in and intervene.

Can't force someone to quit using or drinking. I've known enough addicts and had my own drinking problem to know this.

Yes, you can't force someone to quit, but you can be there to support them in recovery and an intervention is the first step. Ultimately it's Jeff's decision, but his family can't ignore the problem or enable it.

Wonder if this was deliberate on Jeff's part to get out of his contract so he can be with Matt.

In Matt's defense he was saying it's Jeff's business to tell the public what happened. Matt lives right next door and I'm 1000% positive they've gone above and beyond to help him. The problem is, coddling only enables an addict. I know Matt's wife has posted on Twitter about the negative impact this has on both families, they were airing some real personal shit not too long ago.

And on the surface we envy him with his family, creativity, money, etc but as we know, that's just not relevant in most cases. You can have all that and still find yourself needing to be under the influence to be creative and/or enjoy life, function, etc.

Dude if I lived that close the Hardy compound I would be there by now with any type of aid for Mr. Hardy and his family.

Knowing me I'd probably ask Jeff to go out for a night of drinking.

I love Jeff Hardy and this makes me sad. Was hoping the Hardys would end their run in WWE but it's looking like it will be In AEW now.

Lighter schedule would probably be better for him physically.
