Guys, WWE and Nick Khan obviously know what they're doing. They wouldn't be in business this long if they didn't.

That was in no way shape or form a serious comment when I called Nick his uncle. Khan is just a common last name in India, like Smith or Johnson in the US. Watch UFC, there's like 90 fighters with the last name Silva from Brazil and none of them are related to my knowledge lol.

NXT losing to AEW was the first and last straw for Vince. I bet its off USA soon. If Rampage does go to 9..God help everyone not related to the Rock on that show..shit heel Roman hasn't moved rating but whatever.

Kona Reeves needed to go. And yeah, I'll say it: Mercedes Martinez would be a huge get for AEW women's division. Their roster is bloated, but they should take every talented woman they can get right now.

Bronson Reed and Leon Ruff is kinda crazy, though. From the outside looking in, they seemed like big deals.

I actually liked Reed, too. I just always mix him up with whatever Bronson guy they had in the result NXT days who was bland as fuck and forget he's the cool thicc dude.

They've cut so many people in the last year-plus. Talent has to be on eggshells.

Feels like this is the writing on the wall that NXT is about to get an overhaul. Being presented as a third brand has been swept under the rug over the last month or so and I imagine the "budget" is clinching tighter around NXT. Several years ago, NXT was coming across as developmental but they struck a cord with the audience and they signed some of the best talent available, thus raising its stock in a hurry and changing the trajectory. For some reason, the company is coming across to be less than interested in trying to keep that momentum. Just kind of comes across now that the Wednesday Night Duel is over and NXT is just going to get the short end of the stick. Have to think yf they are revamped, that's because Vince views the brand as a failure. Bronson Reed represents a crossroads for the philosophy. With the brand potentially going through a rebuild, going back to that developmental mindset, Reed being let go makes me think that Vince and Co. were on the fence about him but ultimately didn't see main roster upside with him so they cut bait.

If that is actually the case, it's going to be very interesting to see how that works for the likes of Cole, Gargano, Ciampa, Dunne, etc.

    Holy fuckballs.

Bronson Reed is a shocker since latest word was he was on the brink of a call up. Fish and Rust are both pretty surprising as Fish seemed to be in the middle of things and Rust is in Diamond Mine which just debuted. I wouldn't say Mercedes is a shock as she was just there to be the vet to put over folks and she just got banged up but still. Atlas and Ruff are both a bit surprising as they're fairly new and young and seemed to have a lot of potential. I have legitimately been thinking the past few weeks how I've been missing Ruff and hoping he'd be back no TV sometime soon.

Personally, i was a big fan of Reed, Martinez, Ruff and quite liked Atlas, as well. But yeah....damn, it really is open fucking season...

I blame Bronson Reed's release on that hideous Paige tattoo. Can't put that on a billboard. It's very Undertaker-Sara-Tattoo-esque. I liked Bronson, but I cringed every time I saw that trashy trash piece.

I always liked the name Jonah Rock, and would love to see him in Impact. He could be what Michael Elgin screwed himself out of being

Jonah Rock, Mikey Nicholls, and Robbie Eagles would be a fun Trios Team in NJPW, too.

Not sure I'd be bringing in any of these if I were AEW. Some of these names could be useful for a promotion like Impact though. Zechariah Smith and Giant Zanjeer were both legit 7ft giants. Both had much more intimidating looks than that Shanky guy but I guess they must've not shown much else.

Martinez and Atlas were also the faces of WWE’s marketing during pride month and then they get fired 5 week later.

Something very interesting that was pointed out and relates back to our previous discussion:

A lot of the NXT UK talent we’re signed to 3-year deals in 2018. Those deals will be ending this year.
Due to UK labor laws, WWE can’t just release people like they can on the American side. This is likely why we haven’t seen too many NXT UK cuts. There could be a chance of a lot of those UK deals being allowed to expire in the coming months.

Also, the NXT UK guys are only paid about $22K/yr. That entire roster costs less than half as much to pay per year than Braun Strowman did.

    Possibly.

I also see this as someone cracking open the books and realizing that NXT has been bleeding money for nearly 10 years and it’s time to clean up

    From Fightful's report

NXT released over a dozen wrestlers Friday in a regular, yet shocking move. Fightful has inquired about the releases to high level WWE officials, of which one spoke on the record, but under the condition of anonymity.

The official noted to us that in 2018, the company entered a "talent stashing" mode with what everyone assumed were honest intentions. Fightful was told that many pitches involved collecting talent, developing Performance Centers worldwide, and supplementing each Performance Center with native and international talent, with some traveling between global territories. Within a year, the source told us, they could see the brakes being pumped on that and talent being "parked," with an enhanced focus goingto launching NXT on USA. Once that happened, the pandemic occurred shortly after, and everything came to a screeching halt.

The official both expressed extreme frustration, coupled with explaining the line of thinking from a corporate aspect. Despite the outward frustration, the "it's business" line of thinking is privately put forth within the company, even to Fightful, by several.

When asking the source who the releases fall on, they noted that "Vince McMahon can personally put a stop to any of these," but the calls are a collaborative effort. The source confirmed that WWE releases are going to be a regular occurance moving forward, but says that they personally expect 2021 to be an outlier with both the frequency and the level of talent. They also stated to their recollection, "mass releases" hadn't been a real discussion or concern within WWE for nearly four years, between the Summer of 2016 and the start of 2020.

So it sounds like Dave got a hold of a nice internal
memo regarding NXT, which includes this on there:

"No more midgets. No one starting in their 30s. They want people who can be box office attractions and main characters."
so don’t me be shocked if more of your NXT faves like Gargano and Ciampa end up getting cut.

I don't want my next statement to be interpreted as my dunking on anyone getting fired. It sucks to get fired.

That said it is impossible not to enjoy seeing Triple H eat shit.

Does WWE know what is box office nowadays. Heel Roman while great for the IWC hasn't set the world on fire neither has Drew or Lashley.

even though the takeover shows had an excellent run, by far the most i was interested in NXT as a weekly product was back in 2013 when they were a real developmental system and not a holding room for the biggest names on the indies and some japan guys.

WWE is getting more buzz for who they're firing instead of how shitty their show is. That's prettay prettay prettay sad.

Yeah I figured I'd come in here and see the fake outrage pouring out from the same people.

I'm very active in the NXT thread, where was the love for any of these people that you're showing now? WWE releases 12 wrestlers that were going nowhere, and everyone's like "OMG They're going to fire Ciampa next!" And so what if they do? I mean, who on here is looking at their Koana Reeves pictures on their wall ready to slit their wrists?

You'd be blown away at how many players in other sports don't even make it to pre-season. I just don't see how we can have the same outrage for Bray Wyatt that we do for Bobby Fish. Both extremely injury prone and one actually did something and the other was simply along for the ride.

Look at who is still there. If Bronson Reed, Bobby Fish, and Mercedes Martinez being released somehow alters the entire landscape for you suckers, go hang out with Mark Henry and his son The Hand.

IDK, pretty big buzz going on now with the likes of Cena returning, the upcoming Summerslam ppv, the upcoming NXT Takeover is looking fucking sweet. But yet, poor Tyler Rust, the future Stone Cold, was cut.....

Are you implying they were only hired so in the future they could be used to exploit Pride month and then they were fired? Idk. I think in 2021 we should all be beyond giving a shit what wrestler is gay, straight, pan, bi, etc. I wasn't a fan of Jake Atlas because he likes men, I was a fan of Jake Atlas because he was smooth in the ring and looked like Paul London.

that’s not at all what I’m saying.

they were hired for their talent. They also happened to be gay, so wwe prominently featured them in their pride month materials.

then they got fired about six weeks later, which is fucked up. Anyone getting fired is fucked up. Agree or disagree?

It's not fucked up at all. What would be fucked up if they were simply hired for that sole purpose. You are 100% putting emphasis on them being gay, them being used (along with others lol) to snake some money out of Pride month like every other business in America, and then being fired over a month later.

Agree to disagree here youngblood. I don't see anything fucked up about it.

The IWC....people still use that term in this day and age like the internet is rare lol.

Yes they know what box office is nowadays. They also know what 9-10 figures a year looks like not catering to this "IWC" you speak of because this "IWC" is basically the same people in this thread crying about people they didn't care about until now.

If they would keep that same energy for the positives the WWE puts out there then maybe they'd spend less time with the WWE living rent free in their heads and more time appreciating the good. Sorry guys we can't go back to when you think wrestling was on everyone's tv Monday Night. That's a myth. That's what happens when fans of niche entertainment get a few moments in history where it's NOT really niche. We overexaggerate the reality.

Since you’re drawing some false narrative that I’ve said that wwe either only hired them for being gay or exploited them for being gay, let me break it down a bit:

let’s say you work with a guy, we’ll call him Dave. Dave is apart of your company’s community outreach project. Six weeks later, Dave gets fired in the budget cuts. That’s fucked up, as Dave has now lost his job. Nothing to do with Dave having only been hired for that role or anyone exploiting him, the fucked up part is the at he is now unemployed.

Yes, it's fucked up people lose their jobs, happens literally every day of the week across the world my friend.

So who gives a shit if they were part of some marketing scheme over a month ago? Why not just simply say it says they lost their job? Why are you singling out the 2 gay wrestlers who over a month ago were part of some lame campaign (along with other gay, bi, and straight wrestlers)? So them being cut is worse because of that? Bronson Reed was North American Champion and main evented NXT like 2 weeks ago right? Isn't that pretty fucked up too? I get that he wasn't part of some New Zealand marketing campaign 6 weeks ago but still bro, what's up with putting people up on a pedestal because they're gay?

But no one else is singling out the 2 gay wrestlers either. You literally said it was fucked up because they did the Pride campaign and 6 WEEKS LATER they were fire. Dude 6 weeks in this world is like 6 years. The fact you're singling these 2 out specifically shows where your head is at.

Pride month is over dude who gives a shit if they were part of the campaign? Oh well, it happens. You singled them out specifically because you wanted to make it about them being gay and it's so terrible they were fired 5-6 weeks later. Oh well. Like they were suddenly The Rock and Sable because of this forgettable ad.

Literally none of this happened. You’re making things up. It’s ok to be wrong.

You said that I claimed they were hired for being gay. I did not say that.

Then you changed it to me saying that they were exploited for being gay. Again, I never said that.

Then, you claim I said it’s somehow worse that they were fired for being gay.

Now I am singling them out. Again, I never did this. I do wonder what your next story will be.

literally none of these things were ever said. You’re making things up to be upset about. Get over it.

Wow you speak for the lgbtq community? There's a babyface turn I wasn't expecting on this day.

If any person on this planet is butthurt about them being let go and use the Pride campaign WWE put on to sucker them out of money-that's on their dumbass. Gay or not, Pride Month marketing is about as meaningful as Black History Month marketing. You don't think I didn't notice how often a black person has won a WWE title in February? Exploiting people is never positive and grasping at straws to slight WWE has been old for almost 40 years.

I didn't say you claimed anything, I asked if you were implying they were only hired because they were gay and to be used for the campaign and then fired. You said no, end of story on that part but good lie Hero!

So right there the rest of your post is dogshit. You're the one who came in and singled out two gay wrestlers, using the Pride campaign as a reason to feign anger toward WWE. And now you have Bert coming in to your defense lol.

I think you would be upset if WWE promoted people for black history month just to let then go right after, it's totally understandable. I don't need to be Lgbtq to find it terrible. Similar in the way other companies do the same thing by changing their Twitter and Facebook pictures, just because it's expected doesn't make it any less terrible.

WWE is not making stars. Batista had to get claw to get Drax. Cena is a star after 15 years of shoving us down Hollywood's throats. The ratings are in the tank and don't give me they don't give a shit because they are demanding some input. They are financial solvent due to the TV deals but they have no buzz and zero appeal.

Not really because I don't support any kind of target marketing like this.

I've literally shit on the idea in pretty much every post I've responded with concerning Hero's initial post so good try Bert.

A lot of wrestlers are getting released right now and I'm not looking for any little over the top jab to take toward WWE because of it. Show that same energy when they're on the roster not when they're gone.

Kind of racist to assume that I would blindly bitch about black wrestlers getting released a month after Black History Month.....

WRESTLING is not making stars. Back in 1993-1995, you'd be hard pressed to find someone new that was a household name. Business sucked, the only stars were from the 80's. You could argue Diesel or Yokozuna, but in comparison it's like comparing Seth Rollins and Kenny Omega to The Rock and Steve Austin.

What's funny is, their talent has massive buzz when they leave to go elsewhere. So obviously the WWE are something right, even if that's giving wrestlers a global platform to get more money. Christian for example, he's making 7 figures, and it's not because of what he did in TNA. If WWE weren't able to make stars why do the AEW fans get so giddy when a top guy gets released? Why is it exciting that TNA might get someone like Bray Wyatt? If he wasn't a star why give a shit?

You and I might not be super into WWE these days but respect their brand at the very least. If Bray Wyatt or CM Punk or even Aleister Black aren't stars, why are people excited about them working for AEW? CM Punk-look at the ratings. Declined when he was champion, but they also declined after him and were declining before him. So why do we care if he's coming back after 7 years? Because of his ROH work? Doubt it.

I’m far from a McMahon family apologist, but let’s be real here: these mass releases were totally imminent, I’m actually surprised that the company (read: Vince) had the common courtesy to keep all these athletes on the payroll through the pandemic.

Remember pre-COVID, when the company handed out all these extensions because they didn’t want to staff the newly created AEW? Well, those chickens have officially come home to roost. You notice how, outside of Braun/Bray, they haven’t released any big names which might cause future damage? It’s all been “Here are our spare parts/excess baggage, fill your boots AEW”.

It honestly does make business sense, now that the company is going back on the road, to rebrand NXT as the developmental brand and put all your TV-worthy talent on one of the two big league touring brands. During the pandemic, when all three shows were produced in-house, the company could afford to have money tied up in NXT; now, not so much.

Off-topic sort of, remember back when I theorized that Adam Scherr’s release was a negotiating tactic from the big man? Based on Adam’s IG feed today, either he’s a good liar or he legitimately was blindsided by the release. Nonetheless, I still expect him back in WWE when his 90 day no-compete is up.

I was digging his IG feed today.

I also figured out why he runs so weird, one of his legs has lost 15% of it's feeling. I always thought he wore his belt too tight but that has to be way he runs with barely lifting his legs.

Honestly with NXT, look at who was released....Like anyone here really gave a shit about Bronson Reed and Mercedes. They did really nothing and I have no idea why they even pushed Reed the way they did. It isn't a shock he barely held the title and now it's on someone who's been dope since day one.

I'd be more concerned if they released some of the true top talents like Io Shirai, Ciampa, Gargano, but even then it would be understandable to a degree. The WWE can't employ everyone, let the guy with the unlimited bank account who's roster can't go one episode without name dropping and/or hinting at the WWE in some way. RENT FREE.

Can't he go back to WWE before 90 days? I thought 90 days was for competition, that's why it's called a non-compete clause.

He said on his IG feed today that he was going to be announcing his future in wrestling very very soon. But yeah, he could go back any time if WWE re-signs him they don't have to wait for their own clause to expire.

But if you remember, I think Matt Hardy's situation when he was fired over the Edge/Lita stuff was similar. The day before he was supposed to debut in TNA, when his 90 day was up, he re-signed with WWE totally fucking TNA on the 89th day or something wild like that.

the 90-day clause isn’t a real no-compete. It’s them giving you a 90-day heads-up that your contract will be ending. When they let people go their wording is something like “we’re exercising our right to terminate with your deal within 30/90 days”. You’re still employed by wwe for those 90 days. They could negotiate a new contract with Braun at any time.

Now Renee paquette got fucked with a 1-year non-compete clause. She couldn’t work anywhere else and since she was not actually employed wwe any longer, she was also not being paid.

Truthfully we don't know exactly what the new vision is for NXT.

NXT is ECW. It's a glorified developmental territory. The PC is more for the green as Donatello's dick talent (yes I know talent coming back from injury or whatever will go down there). So with NXT you're going to get a mixed bag of people who have no business being on national tv or even have a global presence due to the internet/WWE Network's reach, and talent that can really work like a Samoa Joe or even some of the ROH/TNA guys like Kross, Cole, etc. who have had a little experience on tv and working a tv style format.

NXT has been evolving since day one. Change is nothing new with NXT, especially when you factor in it's roots as a lame as reality competition type presentation.

You had to click see more on Facebook to see the "are all backstage" and the comments is people thinking they were released.

Which who knows, they might be. Bronson Reed was at RAW before.

I like how Bronson Reed suddenly became the bar of top tier talent in NXT and everyone's life is in jeopardy because "Thicc Boi" got cut...I haven't seen this level of fake outrage since Trump beat Clinton.

As it pertains to Bray....Was he ever truly gone? I hope it's true that he's coming back.

Did he really say that? DELUSIONAL.

I thought him winning the North American championship was ridiculous, just like when that Leon Ruff won it. Was it necessary? Nope.

    This is his full quote:

“So, I have had some time to reflect now, and some time to just process, what has happened. And I was very shocked, very upset. As you know this doesn’t just affect me, it affects my wife as well when we are here in a foreign country. But my wife is a super positive person, and she’s kept me positive as well. And I just wanted to reach out to you guys. I’m just very thankful you know. The love and support that I’ve received online is just incredible. I was trending on Twitter, and that means a lot to me, means a lot to me that you know a lot of you feel for me and will still continue to follow me no matter what.
I did want to, you know, thank NXT, I want to thank Hunter, Shawn for believing in me. I want to thank all the coaches, Terry Taylor, Scotty 2 Hotty, Norman Smiley, Steve Corino, those guys that I learned a lot from. And I wanted to thank , all the boys backstage as well. It was a great locker room to be a part of. But, I am staying positive, and I do believe I am bar-none, the best super heavyweight in the world, and I’ll continue to prove that. So, as they say, one door closes, another one opens. Well for me, many doors are open and now it’s just about which one I want to walk through. So, thank you very much for all the support and love and please keep supporting.”

I mean it's kind of like the rap thing though. Who is going to be like I'm the 2nd or 3rd best rapper/wrestler in the world? Maybe they'll say they're top 5 I guess. That being said I was never super high on Bronson Reed and I'm not going to be seeking out his Impact or MLW matches.

Yeah I guess if Lil Xan came out and said he was the best rapper out there, bar none, people would put a K on his name.

You won't have to because he'll be on Dynamite by Thanksgiving.

Look at how mediocre Reed was being pushed and it really feels like him winning the NA title was the "The belt makes the man" type push. He didn't get the belt because he was over he got the belt to get over, to be taken seriously.

I mean, when I watched the Takeover where there was the Gauntlet Eliminator, I thought Bronson Reed was the second best dude that performed outside Isaiah Scott.

Reading the full quote, he doesn't even sound that cocky. So I don't really see what the issue is. More people need to have confidence in their selves that doesn't equate to arrogance.
