Remember Corey Hill? the super lanky dude that did the gruesome leg break spot before Anderson made it famous. He died last night due to a collapsed lung, aged 36. The collapsed lunge was linked to some kind of illness, not sure of the specifics.

Here's a link talking about my cousin Joe Cason as a top 10 HW prospect. Some of you might've have seen him in Strikeforce when he fought OSP in a losing effort a couple years ago but he's a good fighter and is improving by the day. Sometimes trains up at Rufus as well.
I remember when we talked about that fight, man he got completely rinsed by OSP didn't he? No shame losing to a fighter of that caliber though, best of luck to him.

It scares me when people die that young. One minute the last thing on your mind is death and the next you are dead. Shame that he's most well known for the spaghetti leg.

I'll always remember Corey Hill for the time Jeremy Horn was brought in to guest coach on TUF and gave Corey some special attention ...

"This is my zone, this is my home, NOBODY COMES IN MY ZONE OR MY HOME!"

Seemed like a super cool guy who made it easy to root for him. Fucking shame.

Yeah he was the same shape as me that big lanky beast. I read he had died and I remembered his season of TUF was the most fun by miles, it even had a backyard brawl between two dipshits.

Dang I was hoping the reports were still incorrect but yes he passed.

I remember him saying that he lied at the auditions about having any previous fights, saying he did when he didn't. Talked about his struggles, that he hadn't even seen a UFC event in like 10 years or some crazy shit, barely knew any of the fighters, barely trained.

Aleks Emelianenko sure looks great these days, I predict he'll go on a great run when he gets out of prison in 4.5 years.

    UFC HW champ 2019!

I admit, I'd be a sucker like a motherfucker for Babe Ruth coming back for one more ...

Fedor Emelianenko says he is interested in returning to MMA

    Freakshow in Bellator against Kimbo?
    Revenge affair against Werdum?
The stars align for a UFC one-off?

Anyone else care to see even the faintest flames of the Last Emperor?

I wouldn't mind watching him fight again. Not sure against who or where but yeah I'd be interested. It would be nice to see him against a top 10 HW just to see if he has one run left in him but he finished his carrer on a personal high so if he never comes back that's alright by me. The fights I wanted to see him in I don't really have a strong desire and some are not even fighting anymore i.e. Couture and Lesnar. I would've liked to have seen Fedor go to the UFC and see what he could do against the new breed like Cain, Dos Santos, even a rematch against Werdum. Did he ever fight Mark Hunt?

IF Fedor does return to MMA does anyone think he'll fight for a major promotion based out of the US like UFC, Bellator?

It would be maddening to think he'd sign with UFC, but Dana was conspicuously open-ended when asked about it recently. No use of the term "crazy Russians" whatsoever.

It would be kind of silly after all these years if he did wind up in the UFC, I don't see it happening due to M-1 being very "we have to co-promote or no Fedor" with the negotiations but I could see it with Bellator since they have a history with Coker via Strikeforce. I don't know, I was never a big Fedor fan as by the time I really got into Pride, they were almost out of business.

I wouldn't mind something like Fedor/AA II (Arlovski said he wants the rematch of course) winner gives us either Fedor/Werdum II or Werdum/AA II. A guy with Fedor's reputation and resume could definitely get an instant title fight (like Dan Henderson or Giblert Melendez) but would more likely have to take and win one elimination fight before (like Jake Shields/Martin Kampmann, Rampage/Marvin Eastman, Nick Diaz/BJ Penn, Hector Lombard/Tim Boetsch, Eddie Alvarez/Cowboy Cerrone, Anthony Pettis/Clay Guida). What I'm saying is that if Alvarez, Lombard and Pettis had been successful in their UFC debuts they would definitely been given title shots against Pettis, Anderson and Edgar/Maynard, they all lost though. I know Pettis was supposed to get an instant title (unification) fight but the Edgar/Maynard draw fucked that up.

Overeem was supposed to fight JDS for the title after beating Brock I think, and I'm guessing Shogun would have gotten a title shot if he hadn't laid an egg in his debut vs Forrest.

Smart money is definitely on Bellator, not the UFC.

He's worked with Coker in the past
Bellator will co-promote with M-1 Global
Coker is everything Dana White isn't; brash, loud, arrogant.. (I think that's important to Fedor)
They will give him very winnable, marquee, big money fights (e.g Kimbo, Randy Couture, Tito Ortiz or Bobby Lashley).
The best non-freak show fight they could put together is Fedor/Sergei Kharitonov. Sergei refuses to sign an exclusive contract (ala the UFC) but I'm sure he'd sign up for a couple of fights in Bellator like he did with Strikeforce.

In a fun scenario I'd like to see him rematch Big Foot and Hendo, both of them are off TRT now, unlike when Fedor fought them. In my fantasy booking world it would go something like..

    I. Rematches and defeats TRT-less Hendo
II. rematches and kills TRT-less Bigfoot
III. Defeats a top contender like AA, JDS or Stipe (hell, maybe even Mir if he gets another impressive W)
IV. Final boss: Fabricio Werdum rematch for the UFC HW title.

    Fantasy booking ftw.

His manager has said they want a top 10 opponent, which would immediately mean he could only sign for the UFC.

Yep, I would even go as far to say that pretty much the top 20 HW's in the World are fighting in the UFC. Not to say that there aren't good HW's outside of the UFC, but if you make a statement like "We want a top 10 fighter", well, there is really only 1 promotion that can offer that. Bellator doesn't really have anyone at HW that is going to make anyone think "Oh shit this guy might beat Fedor" and if he loses to a subpar fighter, it'll just increase the idea that Fedor's time passed years ago.

Sergei Kharitonov is the only semi-relevant fighter I even know of outside of the UFC who I could see Bellator signing Fedor to fight as a big main event......unless Bellator does a Shamrock/Kimbo sideshow event again for ratings and books Fedor/Couture. Couture would come out of retirement for big $$ to fight Fedor. I think Couture/Fedor may be the route his management team goes. Big money for low risk.

I really would like to see a Frank Mir/Fedor or Overeem/Fedor right now. Overeem/Fedor was the StrikeForce dream match a couple years ago before Fedor joined the JOB Squad.

Fedor doesn't deserve a win-streaking Arlovski right now IMO. I would love to see him face Werdum again, but he doesn't deserve that either, and I think JDS or Cain would destroy Fedor.

Fedor reveals UFC negotiations in process, wants ‘strongest fighters in the world’

"Now this is being negotiated, in particular with the UFC, as well as some other promotions. I think it will soon be finally determined. As for the opponent, I would say that desire must comply opportunities. I would like to face the strongest fighters in the world - UFC champion Fabricio Werdum. Given that over three years, I did not fight during the first fight I would like to get involved, check for myself."
Perhaps posturing for a better deal elsewhere? Maybe. Pretty excited to hear this is could even be an actual thing though.

So who does the UFC put Fedor up against right off the bat? A contender? He obviously wants a rematch with Werdum but I don't see him getting that unless Werdum loses the title. Cain or Dos Santos? I think those 2 would eat him alive. Frank Mir v. Fedor is kind of an old school dream fight. If I was the UFC, I'd book Fedor v. Barnett.

Dream scenario, and entirely depending on his camp schedule, first fight date, etc ...

    - Collapse Overeem into glue (get it?).
    - Admit winner of Arlovski/Mir to hospital.
    - Sweet, sweet redemption against Werdum for the title.
    - One giant mother of all title defenses against whomever, before riding off into the Stary Oskol sunset as the greatest legend ever and the absolute Last True Emporer.

I don't care how hokey that sounds, I miss the greats that got me into the sport. Fedor represents one last gasp and I'm all in if he's in.

Doesn't sound hokey at all. I was gutted watching BJ Penn decline, or should I say take stupid fucking fights that he shouldn't have taken i.e. Rory McDonald @ 170 and Frankie Edgar @ 145. There's nothing that could make me happier in the MMA world than to see BJ Penn come back and whip some ass, even if they're not elite fighters or 30lbs bigger than he is.

I didn't get into Fedor until the tail end of Pride. I saw a couple fights of his on Fox Sports on that Pride show hosted by Jay Glazier but didn't see anything LIVE until Fedor v. Coleman 2. But once I bought a shit ton of Pride DVDs and educated myself I found that Fedor was indeed the greatest HW of his time, maybe of all time. To see him come to the UFC and do well, even if he has like a 3-2 record would still be glorious.

Funny you should say that, they'll likely never get any greater to me than Fedor & Penn.

Loads of others that I'd put in my own personal HoF, but those two stand apart and on top.

The 2 fighters I always bent over backwards to see fight were Penn and Chuck Liddell. To me they just represented everything I like about MMA. Fight whoever, whenever, especially Penn and that's why I can see why people like Fedor. Small HW, willing to go in and fight dudes 3-4 times his size, just like Penn willing to jump up 2-3 weight classes just to test himself. You don't see a lot of that today.

BJ Penn is the man. He fought bloated Machida to featherweight Frankie. BJ is king at LW.

I love the Diaz brothers. I know they get a lot of shit because they complain and Nick can't stop smoking fucking weed leading up to a fight, but they don't fight for points, are always entertaining, and will fight at various weights with whoever as well.

The UFC resurrection machine is in strong form, so many fighters brought in only to go on epic streaks and capture our hearts once again.

Robbie is the stand out I think but Hunto was doing it for the boys for a while there, gotta give the man that. Plus look at Arlovski now...nobody bet on that.

Yeah Arlovski coming into the UFC and showing true heart and determination. He was another one of my favorites back in the day, shit he still is, so it's good to see him hanging with the likes of Travis Browne and Bigfoot, 2 guys I was sure would kill him.

Turns out Hapa thumps his wife though so he lost a big big fan in me there.

That Gonzaga, Barnett and Overeem streak was pretty impressive though.

Sucks we don't talk much about OneFC in this forum but I just saw this article on Sherdog about a young fighter who died following the weigh in's for today's event...

is there anything commissions can do about weight cutting?

personally, kinda find it to be bullshit. Just wish people would fight at their 'walking weight' instead of doing shit like that.

They can do the same things the NCAA did when they went through weight cutting deaths years ago. Body fat composition guidelines for weight classes and fight day weigh ins.

Rizin is honestly what I need in my life when it comes to MMA. Fedor fighting a 2-0 kickboxer, a HW interpromotional grand prix, The Barbarian's daughter debuting against a chick who lost about 150lbs. I'm ready for this shit.

Agreed. I enjoy the shit out of some UFC. It's my MMA ego, full of rankings and reason and order.

But I need an alternative itched scratched in the sport, and hopefully Rizin will be that, my MMA id.

Exactly. That's why I dig Bellator. I don't really need a carbon copy of the UFC, I already have the UFC. I need the variety.

    ONE CHAMPIONSHIP™ REVOLUTIONIZES MMA WITH NEW WEIGH-IN PROGRAM;
    BANS WEIGHT-CUTTING BY DEHYDRATION

23 December 2015 – Singapore: Asia’s largest sports media property, ONE Championship™ (ONE), has announced that the organization will lead the global MMA industry by banning weight-cutting by dehydration and instituting a new set of regulations and policies governing the weigh-in procedures and contracted weight limits. The new program, which is the first of its kind for combat sports, is focused on athlete safety by introducing "walking-weight" competition via multiple weigh-ins and tests before and during fight week, including 3 hours before an event begins.

Athletes will now compete at their "walking-weight", which will be determined by a robust system that will track his/her weight on a regular basis throughout the period that the athlete is contracted to ONE. Full details of the new weigh-in program can be found below.

The revolutionary weigh-in program was established after thorough discussions and recommendations by ONE Championship's medical and competition team, consisting of Chief Doctor Dr. Warren Wang, Chief Medical Advisor Dr. James Okamoto, Vice President Mr. Rich Franklin, Vice President of Operations & Competition Mr. Matt Hume, Global Athlete Services & Competition Director Mr. Richard Auty and China Athlete Services & Competition Director Mr. Vaughn Anderson.
Huge step in the right direction. Hope US athletic commissions follow suit.

Yep, theres no reason motherfuckers should be cutting 30 40lbs, getting carried to the weigh in ie Nik Lentz, or dying....

Just read an interview with Texas Crazy Horse Heath Herring. Man he wasn't that great, he was a top guy at one time but man I'd like to see him fight again. Can't believe it's been 7 1/2 years since he last fought and he's only 37. I remember when he fought Giant Silva from the WWF lol.

Not 100% sure. He seemed to stray completely away from all threads outside of a few in the Asylum where he gets sucked into 40 page banter. To be honest OD, I've been wondering where you've been buddy?!?! Seems you don't post even half as much as you used to, especially in the MMA thread.

Speaking of this thread. It's wild going back and reading the first couple pages, FROM 11 YEARS AGO! People talking about the first season of Ultimate Fighter, the first post in this thread has someone asking if people even watch the UFC. Crazy how A-time flies and B-things changed with the UFC once Ultimate Fighter came on after Raw.

So, Wanderlei is free to fight outside the UFC now, have to think Scott Coker is already dreaming about putting on Wand/Melvin Manhoef in Bellator. Same age, chins are gone but both can still bang. MM is way more technical but I have a feeling it would be a nap-at-first-touch kind of fight.

Part of me does want to see Wandy maybe end his career in Japan, but I also like the memory of his last fight, going out with a win in brutal fashion against a warrior like Brian Stann. He has money, there's really no reason other than to want to get his face on t.v. lol. It's just sad sometimes when fighters are playing russian roulette in the fight game and they try to use the "I'm a fighter it's in my blood" excuse and while it's not really an excuse it's a bad reason to keep getting your head caved in. But honestly Wanderlai hasn't exactly been destroyed in a lot of his defeats. So Idk, I would like to see him and Manhoef, or Wandy v. Fedor.

Seems like we're having a lot of deaths in MMA recently. Blas Avena, who I watched quite a few times when WEC was starting to make waves of an apparent suicide. http://m.sherdog.com/news/news/Las-V...Suicide-104547

And Bellator prospect Jordan Parsons due to injuries he suffered in a hit and run motorcyle crash. They still haven't found who did it but they will soon.http://m.sherdog.com/news/news/Jorda...d-at-25-104443

Kimbo Slice dies of heart failure at age of 42

    Terrible.

Like the article said, and despite his entire fight persona, I've heard nothing but what a good guy he was as a friend, training partner, and with his family. Incredible little run he had for what it was. Street fighter turned mass marketable pro. Nuts to consider for how the sport was blowing up along with him.

    Just very sad news.

If we had more traffic or if the MMA threads weren't mashed with everything else sports related I'd create an Invicta thread but for now..

Invicta FC 18 going down July 29th in KC, MO. It's a 3 hour drive and if I wasn't going to the Deftones in August I might have gone to this one to see Cindy Dandois fight. She's one of my favorite female fighters to watch fight and just simply watch lol. She's facing Jessamyn Duke so that should be a really good fight!

Yeah we'd need a lot more MMA fans on this forum for that to work. I doubt an Invicta thread would reach page 2. But yes, there are some nice strawweight prospects in the league.

With Fight Pass I've gone back and watched some of the Cyborg headlined events and it's pretty wild how many women have come through Invicta before getting to the UFC. I mean I know it's a feeder system basically but still, almost everyone on one card was on that TUF season lol.

Looks like Ryan Jimmo was killed in a hit-and-run:

Anyone catch Cindy Dandois submission over Jessamyn Duke this past weekend? Some OG scarf hold submission, I don't think I've seen that shit since Pancrase, or something very close to it. Love Dandois, and she's asking for Cyborg, both her and Megan Anderson. I'd say give it to Dandois because she already beat Anderson but who knows. Dandois would probably get killed, her striking is not good and she has solid grappling but I don't know if it's good enough to fuck with Cyborg. Anderson would die as well, probably worse than Dandois lol.

A-level athlete Greg Hardy to MMA ...

Former Dallas Cowboy Greg Hardy transitioning to MMA, preparing for debut

Greg Hardy is making the move to mixed martial arts.

The controversial former Dallas Cowboys defensive end has decided to put his football career on hold to pursue MMA, MMAFighting.com has learned.

Hardy, 28, who does not have an extensive martial arts background, has been training for several months in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, and according to his team, several promotions have already expressed interest in signing him.

"I'm very focused and excited to start my MMA career," Hardy said in a statement provided to MMAFighting.com. "I'm going to do this the right way, I can assure you of that."
... a villain we can all root against while testing MMA's athletic standards? Also of interest is who puts him on tv first. Cause it's gonna happen.

Seems like a big Bellator match waiting to happen. Hope he transitions against lower level talent and works his way up.

When I was still in college and was working as a car valet for a night club in Charlotte, NC (he was on the Carolina Panthers at the time) I actually met him. He is tall as fuck and wasn't all that nice.

He has that "bull-rush" raw athleticism that can compensate for his lack of experience against really shitty talent. But once he faces experienced guys, he will need to know how to strike and fight off his back.

I can see him being a real asshole in training, so I can't see a top camp taking him on.

Why isn't Shinya Aoki in the UFC? They had to have tried to get him in the company at least a couple different times I would assume. A guy with that kind of record with that style. I'd definitely like to see him and Alvarez throw down one last time since both guys have a victory over the other.

They offered him a few years ago. He just flat out said it didn't interest him and he wanted to stay loyal to ONE FC.

I figured so. I'm sure it's a pain in the ass for fighters who are not based out of the US to want to come fight for the UFC especially if you're a guy like Aoki who I assume makes a killing fighting for OneFC compared to what he'd make in the UFC. There's not a ton of shows in Asia that the UFC put on as well.

Right, and many fans in the states would scratch their head at the idea but like you said, it's literally foreign to him. And I know he's fought here a few times, some guys just don't get acclimated the same. It's hard to substitute being in a place where you feel comfortable that just makes sense to you.

Rampage loved fighting in Japan. Can't say for certain if Liddell had quite the same experience or a guy like Jon Jones necessarily would.

I think for Rampage, not taking into account that he just loved Japan in general, I think he liked the Pride rules. Not necessarily being able to knee and soccer kick downed opponents, but if the shit was stalling, yellow card. I can't say for sure if I have this 100% correct but I remember him getting a yellow card in a fight, I think it was Randleman, and he just came out and fucking blasted the dude and knocked him out. Then the next fight he gave the ref a yellow card before the bell, classic.

You can definitely look at a lot of Japanese fighters who didn't transition well in the UFC.

Yeah I wondered about Aoki a while back as well but ultimately I'm not hung up on him never joining the UFC. I think he'd do well but he wouldn't crack the top 10 or anything.

I think he'd wind up being like Gomi where he'd get a couple decent wins but the bigger fights he'd lose. But I don't really have much to base that on other than looking at some of the previous Japanese fighters. Aoki has such a crazy style and he hasn't lost to very many people over a 10 year career. I also wonder if the UFC would be cool with him wearing those funky ass tights.

Yeah but have you noticed fighters can now wear Reebok gear in their country's colours? So everything is all better now, fighters don't need to worry about the loss of thousands of dollars in ad revenue anymore.

No matter how you spin it it's always a shame when world renown fighters never fight for the UFC. Fedor being an obvious example, Aoki, probably Ben Askren.

I know I'm kind of a dick for that but his promo going into his fight vs Rampage (if you can call that a fight) was pretty memorable for me.

That was wonderful. Looked like her poor opponent didn't realize until it was too late that she was being attacked by an octopus.

lmao. I saw that shit and I was like...wtf? And apparently it's a legit submission whereas I thought it was just something she did on the fly.

Brett Rogers sure has fallen off since that 22-second KO of Arlovski and fighting Fedor in the main event on CBS:
Rogers, who is reportedly homeless, was in the basement of the George Latimer Central Library in downtown St. Paul in mid-November when he groped a library employee while riding beside him in an elevator, according to one of the complaints.

The man reportedly slapped Rogers’ hand away and asked him what he was doing. Rogers didn’t say anything and exited the elevator as soon as the door opened, according to court documents.

Then, on Jan. 4, he asked a man who was standing next to him at a urinal inside a bathroom in a St. Paul skyway if he wanted to engage in sexual activity inside one of the stalls, according to the complaint. When the man said no, Rogers grabbed his buttocks, the complaint said. The man quickly left and later reported the incident to police.

    [...]
The third incident took place in the Ramsey County Jail after Rogers was booked on the earlier alleged offenses.
Rogers’ cellmate was sleeping when he woke to find Rogers fondling him, court documents say. He opted not to call guards out of fear that Rogers, who he described to police as “the biggest and strongest dude in the jail,” might hurt him before help arrived. He reported the incident as soon as he was released from his cell, the criminal complaint said.

Brett Rogers sucks, he can't even be the best MMA molester. He'll probably get thrown in with Mike Whitehead and lose, move down to Jeremy Jackson and lose then he'll be jobbing to guys like War Machine and Joe Son before long and Joe Son doesn't have a dick anymore. Keith Hackney punched it inside him.

Awhile back I was watching an older UFC, not sure which one, but Whitehead was in someone's corner and I thought, man whatever happened to that guy? I remember Matt Hughes was super high on him on the 2nd TUF that he coached, I believe Whitehead may have been a training partner of his. Then I see you post what you posted SOB and googled his name, sure as shit spent a few years in prison for sexual harassment.

Thought that it was a great little card last night, all exciting fights. Surprised that Shevchenko and Masvidal's victories were in any way considered surprising, I figured that they would both win. Seems like we might have a bit of a new stud in the heavyweight division too.

I think it was more the way they won as opposed to winning. Shevchenko hasn't had a sub win in 10 years and I don't think people expected Cerrone to get finished the way he did. And yeah, Dana has all types of praise for that Frances dude. Considers him one of if not the most imposing HW they've had on the roster.

Random thought....Why did Denis Kang fall so hard the way he did?

I had been checking Melvin Manhoef's record and saw he beat Kang in Kang's last fight. Then I looked at Kang's record and man he started off pretty strong but as time went by....Then I saw in one of his last fights he lost to Shungo Oyama via TKO.....

Another random thought only because of Oyama and I just watched this fight, please try to find the pre-fight interview with his opponent Waliid Ismael from Pride 15. Hilarious. I tried to see if someone uploaded the full fight with the pre-fight stuff but all i can find is backstage shit and that's not what we need!!
