yes...well done on the grand slam....although...i reckon that if scotland found that spark and got a good kick up the buttocks that they would be a fantastic team to watch again...maybe if they returned to there old school roots instead of trying all these new plays...just got to hit the opposition hard and score tries

I watched the game the other day on videotape (thank Jebus for timer recording) and it was clear that a) the travel had taken it's toll on the team and b) they were phoning it in against a team they knew they could beat anyway. Mssrs. Taumoepeau, Oliver, Afoa, Jack, Ryan, Macdonald, McCaw, Lauaki, Weepu, Evans, Rokocoko, Umaga, Smith, Gear, Toeava, Hore, Tialata, Eaton, Tuiali'i, Cowan, MacDonald and Nonu are capable of much better.

Scotland were brilliant first half and just about hung on, if France played the second half like they're capable of doing they'd have had no problem winning the game. Well played to Scotland though.

Lamont is a quality player, his pace and ball control is something else.

Scotland vs England for Grand Slam showdown maybe?

France are playing well but their tries have come from nothing really. It's stupid.

You're right, 3 tries from lucky bouces and little mistakes.

For whatever reason they seem devoid of confidence.

Make that 4 tries from nowhere.

    Again.

Was impressed with the way they performed against Ireland last week and they were unlucky not to win and they're unlucky not to be in the lead at the moment.

It's taken some time, but they do look as if they may become quite a force to reckon with come the World Cup.

They're not doing well, we've just been ultra-pish from the word get-go.

The amount of fuck-ups that led to their first try.

Scotland v England... best game eveeeeeer.

Or at least the best Scottish performance since totally outclassing France in Paris in 99. I'd tend to agree with the Sportswriter who said it was the best defensive performance by anyone since the Lions in 97 also.

Christ, the last two Scotland games have demonstrated what is basically wrong with North Hermisphere rugby.

And the tries, or complete lack thereof.

It shows once again that there's a horrendous lack of basic skills in the NH, despite all the self-righteous chest-beating by idiots like Steven Jones. It's pretty much why the Lions only managed to get a draw against a third-string Pumas side, struggled to contain the New Zealand provincial sides, got pipped by the NZ Maori side and were given a right royal reaming by the All Blacks, only to have that repeated at their expense on the end-of-season Grand Slam tour, with Wales also being beaten comfortably in the end by an out-of-sorts Springboks side.

No tries doesn't mean it isn't a good game. Silly mistakes, helped exponentially by the weather, were what led to no tries being scored, and Ireland were very unlucky to only score penalties - Scotland's defence and fumbles kept it as it was. The first 55-60 minutes were actually really fun to watch, it was a proper old fashioned game of rugby.

Not sure about your Steven Jones point, once he went off against Ireland last week Wales capitulated, and he was absolutely dominant today against a vastly improved Italy side.

The standard of matches, if not the standard of rugby itself, has been exceptional in this Six Nations series, much much better than any in recent memory.

We were fucking awful today, Ireland should've had a few tries there.

Defended and tackled well at times, but far, far too many fumbles and bad line-outs.

Us New Zealanders get grumpy when there aren't any tries being scored. On the other hand, if someone said we were spoiled by the standard of backs here, then that someone would indeed have a valid point.

I was talking about Steven Jones the so-called journalist (I use that term very loosely), not the Welsh fly-half.

The standard of matches pales in comparison to what's produced in the Tri-Nations though. Even the Guiness Premiereship has nothing on what's produced in the Super 12/14 on a regular basis.

Queensland Reds 29 - 18 Western Force in Brisbane
    For Queensland Reds:

Conversion and 2 penalty goals by Elton Flatley
2 penalty goals by Julian Huxley

    Bulls 23 - 16 Highlanders in Pretoria
    For Bulls:
    Tries by Pedrie Wannenburg (2)
2 conversions and 3 penalty goals by Derrick Hougaard
    For Highlanders:

Stormers 19 - 23 Hurricanes in Cape Town
    For Stormers:

Conversion and 4 penalty goals by Peter Grant
    For Hurricanes:
Tries by Rodney So'oialo, Tane Tuipulotu and Hosea Gear
Conversion and penalty goal by David Holwell
    Penalty goal by Jimmy Gopperth

Absolutely embarassing loss for the Cats, while Hosea Gear has put his hand up for an All Blacks trial, and has demonstrated the richness of talent in the wings in New Zealand. It's almost hard to believe that he can't crack the Hurricanes starting XV, because of Lome Fa'atau and Ma'a Nonu taking the 14 and 11 jerseys, respectively. The Crusaders march along to another win, this time away from home and they have people discussing the likelihood of another 2002 season, where they had gone undefeated, while on the other end of the table, the Western Force limp along to another defeat.
Nick Evans now joins Luke McAlister on the list of All Blacks flyhalves who are sidelined due to injury. Meanwhile, Wendell Sailor's hold in the starting XV in the Waratahs is looking tenous at best, with Tuqiri, Hewat and Norton-Knight providing a DYNAMITE trio. Fuck Sailor. He sucks anyways.

If France lose and we beat Ireland at Twickenham we still win the 6 nations though...

We were fucking SHOCKING in the first half, so many errors. Fucked the second half off to watch GERRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARD feed Henry though.

New Zealand, between 1998 to 2000 were a team in transition getting over the retirements/departures of Sean Fitzpatrick, Olo Brown, Michael Jones, Zinzan Brooke, Walter Little and Frank Bunce and even then, they never lost this badly. In a lot of the games, they were still into it until the end.

Matt Stevens has been ruled out of the game against Ireland, putting Julian White into the starting XV and Perry Freshwater onto the bench.

In other news, Queensland Reds and Wallabies flyhalf/inside centre Elton Flatley has announced his retirement effective immediately due to complications from his continued problems with head injuries. It's sad to see a great player have to retire, especially before his time, even if he is an Australian. I wish the best for Elton Flatley in his future endeavors.

New Zealand beat England 29-21 in the Rugby Sevens final.

Still, good effort from the lads and Matthew Tait looks bloody amazing. Get him in the full squad!

Also, the Aussies lost to Fiji in the 3rd placed play off and Scott Fava had some kind of fit mid-game after getting knocked over. Went off in a neck brace, looked pretty nasty. Hope he recovers ok

Our team has retained a remarkable unbeaten run at the Commonwealth Games since 1998. The New Zealand 7s team had been suffering from indifferent form, but this Commonwealth gold shows that we are still one of the most dangerous teams in the circuit. Amasio Valence-Raoma, Liam Messam and Josh Blackie ended up being the difference between winning and losing.

Missed the Scotland game, but Wales were dreadfully unlucky.

Can't really see Ireland making up that 34 point margin to win the title.

    6 Nations
    Italy 10 - 13 Scotland in Rome
    For Italy:
    Try by Mirco Bergamasco
Conversion and penalty goal by Ramiro Pez
    For Scotland:

Conversion and penalty goal by Paterson
    Dropped goal by Gordon Ross

    Wales 16 - 21 France

    For France:

Conversion and penalty goal by Jean-Baptiste Elissalde
2 penalty goals by Dimitri Yachvili

Looks like France has won it. Still, and uninspiring tournament, with France being average at best. The Scottish resurgence was a pleasant surprise, but I think they'll be another case like Wales: one good season, and then they'll collapse in spectacular fashion.

I know this sounds arrogant, but I don't think France has really recovered from the 45-6 thumping handed out to them in 2004 by the All Blacks in Paris.

Ugh. I'm absolutely disgusted by the Waratahs-Blues game. We just let the 'Tahs go wild on us. Goddamnit. It's really frustrating because we have an absolutely rubbish first-five in the form of Tasesa Lavea. Drop the sack of crap to the bench and put Luke McAlister in there, and then put Rua Tipoki in with Anthony Tuitavake to reunite the North Harbour midfield, which was by far the form combination in the NPC last year. IT'S NOT ROCKET SCIENCE, NUCIFORA. And then, let the Auckland and North Harbour players go along with the kind of game they're used to, and have used with incredible success. In theory, the Blues should be whupping everyone. They're primarily made up of players from the Auckland and North Harbour NPC squads, both of which made the 2005 competition semifinals, in fine form - with Auckland going on to win the final against Otago. They did so with exciting attacking rugby that comes from Polynesian players being allowed to express themselves, with solidity in the setpiece. Nucifora's game-plan is too structured, and it's stifling the Polynesian flair that the provinces bring.

The Brumbies-Chiefs game was an absolute cracker, and it all came down in the end to a conversion by Mortlock, while the Highlanders-Cats game was rubbish. Ben Blair certainly can kick, though. I think he's earned a place in the trials in his current form.

It's an important duty, posting the Super 14 results. Mainly because it's the best rugby competition in the world.

The Waratahs are the team with the best chance of beating the Crusaders, while my team, the Blues, are doing their now annual mid-season miracle run. Hopefully, unlike '04 or '05, they'll keep it together and get into the semis. Hopefully Flavell's injury and Tipoki's monster suspension won't torpedo their chances.

Fucking Sharks. Plus the Force-Crusaders result is quite possibly the upset of the season.

In other news, the Neath-Swansea Ospreys have signed Justin Marshall, who left the Leeds Tykes after they were relegated from the Guiness Premiereship. It's an excellent signing by the Ospreys, I must say. Apparently, they're trying to sign former All Black Jono Gibbes from the Chiefs as well.

We thrashed you Aussies. And by "thrashed you Aussies", I mean the Kiwis let the Kangaroos run all over them and score tries whenever the mood struck them.

Crusaders and Canterbury captain Richard McCaw was named as the All Blacks captain by Graham Henry today. It was pretty much the worst kept secret in the country. McCaw has already captain the All Blacks on two occasions, to a win over Wales in 2004 and a win over Ireland in 2005.

A lot of NZ players really stepped up in the S14 this year, unfortunately due to the injury to Conrad, we don't have our centres of choice. But I don't think this will effect us. I see Argentina at home being more of a threat than Ireland. Considering the AB's are one of the only sides not to have lost to them at home. And we only scraped past with a try in extra time last time we played in BA.
