The Argies are a dangerous team when in BA, but I have the utmost faith in Graham Henry, Steve Hansen, Wayne Smith and Sir Brian Lochore. I expect Woodcock, Oliver and Sommerville to front up to the Pumas. The absence of So'oialo and McCaw is a bit worrying, but I'm sure Collins, Masoe and Tuiali'i will step up.

This Saturday is the first of 2 Test matches between Ireland and New Zealand.

The All Blacks team to play this weekend is.

ALL BLACKS: 15 Mils Muliaina, 14 Doug Howlett, 13 Ma'a Nonu, 12 Aaron Mauger, 11 Joe Rokocoko, 10 Luke McAlister, 9 Byron Kelleher; 8 Rodney So'oialo, 7 Richie McCaw, 6 Marty Holah, 5 Greg Rawlinson, 4 Chris Jack, 3 Carl Hayman, 2 Keven Mealamu, 1 Clarke Dermody. Reserves: 16 Anton Oliver, 17 Neemia Tialata, 18 Troy Flavell, 19 Jerome Kaino, 20 Jimmy Cowan, 21 David Hill, 22 Scott Hamilton.

The Irish team to play this weekend is.

    IRELAND: 15 Geordan Murphy, 14 Shane Horgan, 13 Brian O'Driscoll (c), 12 Gordon D'Arcy, 11 Andrew Trimble, 10 Ronan O'Gara, 9 Peter Stringer, 8 Denis Leamy, 7 David Wallace, 6 Neil Best, 5 Paul O'Connell, 4 Donncha O'Callaghan, 3 John Hayes, 2 Jerry Flannery, 1 Marcus Horan. Reserves: 16 Rory Best, 17 Bryan Young, 18 Mick O'Driscoll, 19 Keith Gleeson, 20 Isaac Boss, 21 Denis Hickie, 22 Girvan Dempsey.

Ireland secured the Triple Crown in the Six Nations, defeating England, Wales and Scotland, while Munster recently won the Heineken Cup, Leinster were beaten semifinalists and Ulster claimed the Celtic League crown.

This is the first test match of the year for the All Blacks, and they have chosen to rest alot of first string players for the Argentina game next month.
The All Blacks shouldn't have any problems defeating the Irish side, but the Irish will stand their best chances ever of beating the All Blacks, coming off a strong season, and with their Captain Brian O'Driscall back in the fold.

The double-openside is quite an interesting prospect. Expect the All Blacks to turn the ball over many, many times in the breakdown with Holah and McCaw lurking around. It'll be interesting seeing Greg Rawlinson is All Blacks colours. Couldn't be happier as a North Harbour and Blues fan.

Another point of interest is the inclusion of Isaac Boss, and whether he'll take to the field. It'll be nice to see him get his first test cap on his old home ground.

That's quite a bold move by Connolly. But then again, he knows his shit when it comes to forward play, so I guess the Aussies will have to trust him. Not too convinced though.

Paul, Chisholm, Waugh, Rathbone and Shepherd are all decent players. Valentine's a good scrumhalf for the Reds as well.

Let's hope NZ does a little better this weekend than last. I would of prefered to have seen mils at centre, especially after his strong game last week, but I don't know if we'll see that now.

The All Blacks-Ireland game was quite good. Plus it was nice to see two deserving Waikato players get their first test caps, albeit on opposing sides (Hill and Boss). Have to say I was annoyed at O'Driscoll's theatrics when he got tackled by Flavell, acting like he'd been punched in the throat.

    Scott Hamilton (Crusaders/Canterbury) - Wing

    Isaia Toeava (Blues/Auckland) - Fullback/Centre
Sam Tuitupou (Chiefs/Auckland) - Inside Centre
    Piri Weepu (Hurricanes/Wellington) - Scrumhalf

10 were dropped after the series against Ireland and the test against Argentina, with former captain Reuben Thorne coming in. A bit of a surprise really, seeing how it appeared he was seemingly being ignored by selectors. Good choice though, especially considering his form this year.

Nonu's been ruled out due to injury and Tuitupou has been called up to cover for him.

Interesting call by White here, with Ndungane favoured ahead of Paulse. That being said, Ndungane is a great finisher, and is just as effective on the wing as Habana. It's also interesting to note that Spies has been selected ahead of Cronje, who was more or less the no. 4 loosie for the Boks. Let's see how the test debutants go.

They can do a lot better, but they're always a threat. They're no. 2 in the world for a reason.

Thought they'd improved, especially after the beltings they'd dished out to England and Ireland. But then they were well beaten by the All Blacks, who had a difficult series against the Irish beforehand, albeit with a weakened squad.

What do you think the chances are of South Africa winning 13+ on Saturday?

Very slim. They've lost three of their best players (Schalk Burger IX, Jean de Villiers and Bakkies Botha) to injury and their best winger, Bryan Habana is playing with an injury. But I don't think they'll lose.

I'm shocked by that result. Totally didn't expect the Springboks to collapse to that degree. It was also a graphic demonstration of a worrying lack of depth in South Africa right now. They don't have a world class flyhalf and they become easy-beats without a few key individuals.

I think the damage has been done to the 'Boks. While they'll go to Wellington with a point to prove, the All Blacks will most likely play for bonus points. Hopefully they'll get belted again, this time by the team in my avatar.

I hate South Africans (in a sporting sense obviously, I don't really hate them ) about ten thousand billion more times than I hate New Zealand.

As much as Rugby doesn't really bother me, this result made me smile.

This is probably the strongest squad named all year. Personally, I would've gone with Anton Oliver in the front row, mainly because he's a better scrummager than Mealamu, but otherwise it's looking good. Oliver's probably being saved for the trip to the Republic anyway and the 'Boks are definitely stronger upfront than the Wallabies. Jason Eaton's gone from stregth to strength and I look forward to his battles in the air with the pairing of Sharpe and Vickerman.
There has been a late change in the starting XV, due to an injury sustained by Aaron Mauger. Luke McAlister steps into the no. 12 jersey. I think this could hurt the ABs, since Mauger has been consistently the best back in the team.

I was quite surprised by the fact that Smith was dropped to the bench, but it also makes sense. Waugh's a world-class openside, so it's not like the Wallabies looseforwards are going to be walked all over. Besides, McCaw got the better of Smith the last two times they played, so it's as good a time as any to rest him.

New Zealand 34 - 27 Australia in Auckland
    For the All Blacks:
Tries by Jason Eaton, Chris Jack and Luke McAlister
2 conversions and 5 penalty goals by Daniel Carter
    For the Wallabies:
Tries by Lote Tuqiri (2) and Rocky Elsom
3 conversions and 2 penalty goals by Stirling Mortlock

If Lote Tuqiri and Phil Waugh aren't cited after this game, there is something seriously wrong with the judicial system. Especially seeing how blatant their indiscretions were.

Yeah man that ref was a shocker! Tuqiri is such a loser did you see him winding up the crowd after he did that tackle, grrrr!

The Waikato/Otago game was a goody aswell I'm a Waikato fan so I was not happy, but great game by both teams.

Tuqiri's getting cited for his dangerous tackle on McCaw. He'll probably miss the Jo'burg fixture against the Boks.

So what was with the sudden abandoning of Nathan Sharpe while he was still in the air, eh? Doesn't seem like a team with any unity to me.

Besides, the current All Blacks side is very different from the side fielded at the 2003 world cup that was ultimately beaten by the Wallabies. For one thing, this is a team that can think on its feet and calmy reassume control of a test match, with a very deep talent pool and can exert incredible authority in the setpieces. They did it to the Springboks in 2004 and 2005, and they did it to the Wallabies this year. All that remains are two things - a win in South Africa and the World Cup. And I expect both to happen.

I was relieved to see Sharpe play on after that. At the end of the day, he's a great lock and if that led to any injuries, well that would've just sucked.

Oh well, Lote's copped 5 weeks, putting him out of the final Tri-Nations fixture and the first 3 rounds of the inaugural Australian provincial competition.

van Niekerk has been moved into the starting XV, with Spies taking the vacant spot on the bench. And the best South African loosie, Luke Watson continues to wonder if he'll ever have a chance at wearing the green jersey. At this rate, he's going to turn into the South African equivalent of Duane Monkley, I imagine.

Average game by the All Blacks very messy and they were lucky to get the win. Matfield should get cited for the hit on Carter.

Are S.A and Aussie trying to take out some of the All Blacks before the world cup?

South Africa 26 - 45 New Zealand in Pretoria
    For the Springboks:
Tries by Jaque Fourie (2) and Fourie du Preez
    Conversion by Andre Pretorius
2 penalty goals by Percy Montgomery
    Penalty goal by Butch James
    For the All Blacks:
Tries by Neemia Tialata, Luke McAlister, Sitiveni Sivivatu, Malili Muliaina and Rico Gear
4 conversions and 4 penalty goals by Daniel Carter

There was some excellent play by the All Blacks, let down by certain individuals (I'm looking in your direction, Mr. Toeava). Scrummaging was shit, with the scrum either going down or being wheeled around on Tialata's side. while the line-outs were a bit wonky. They really, really missed Hayman out there. It came down to which team was better in loose play, and the result is a fair indication of how things went. The Boks played with passion but no imagination whatsoever.

Greg Somerville, Leon MacDonald, Chris Masoe and Reuben Thorne are all out of next week's fixture in Rustenburg, for Achilles tendon, hip, ankle and thumb injuries respectively. John Afoa and Marty Holah have been called up to cover. Afoa will make the 41st All Black played this year, if he takes to the field at any point.

They deserved it, man Pretorius is a great player. Stupid So'oialo stuffed us up at two stages of the game. Bring Luaki (sp?) in at number 8.

Rodders has been playing at an exceptionally high level for the last 2 and a half years. I don't expect one bad game to lead to him being dropped. The team let themselves down. The only people that can leave with their heads held high would've been the props.
Lauaki has had his chance to impress and he's failed.

Good Strong Squad. Ellis is lucky to be there after a mediocre season and, especially after Cowan had a good NPC. I guess they are looking at him as a future player, I see a bit of Marshall in him... Maybe cause I'm a one-eyed canterbury supporter
Holah was also unlucky, but I'm pretty sure they know they can use him as the go-to guy if there are many injuries. Messam and Kahui were unlucky, but are young, so there's plenty of time for them to develop.
I'm glad Nick Evans is back in there. He's a class player, pity he's stuck in the terrible Otago Backline. Conrad will be getting valuable experience in the 13 Jersey hopefully as well. He really needs to stake his claim as the First Choice 13, but he does lack that Bulk that we'd need in the backline if it was Carter and Mauger inside him.
I think Mils needs to get back to being a fullback, he bulked up alot for 13 and I think it's cost him when he's been playing 15.
    Thoughts?

I really don't know what Henry, Hansen and Lochore have against Holah. He doesn't do much wrong. His one start this year was in a position he's never played before in first-class rugby, so a difficult game against a fired-up and confident Irish side wasn't entirely his fault. And everyone knew Ellis and Robinson were going to be in there fitness permitting.
I don't rate Tialata as highly as the coaches and selectors do. I reckon Dermody is far superior. Dermody is also 1/3 of one of the best provincial front-rows in the world at the moment.
Bringing in Messam and Kahui right now isn't the right choice. This tour and the domestic internationals next year should be all about establishig the first XV, something which Henry most likely already has a general idea of, and then cementing combinations. After all the line-out woes this year, people seem to be quick to forget that when Woodcock, Mealamu, Hayman, Jack, Williams, Collins, McCaw and So'oialo were used regularly, they pwned everyone in the air, including the pairing of Botha and Matfield in Dunedin.
Smith's defence, I think is perfectly fine. It's probably from being paired with Nonu and Umaga on a regular basis, but their defensive skills appear to be rubbing off on him. He barely misses a tackle and he hardly ever slips off.
Right now, there's an either/or decision with the fullbacks. Muliaina is a stronger attacker and better distributor of the ball, but MacDonald is a strong defender and has a better kicking game. I'd go with MacDonald against England and one of the tests against the French, and go with Muliaina in the other two.
I don't really rate Evans. He seems a bit flakey. He's like Spencer. On a good day, he's excellent, but when things go wrong, he seems to drown. Right now McAlister is the clear second choice. If David Hill wasn't leaving, I would've taken him as the third choice 1st-5 behind Carter and McAlister.

A very interesting choice at 10, to say the least. Obviously, Thorne will be covering lock as well, and the placing of two props on the bench eliminates the prospect of the humiliation of asking for uncontested scrums.

    England 20 - 41 New Zealand
    For England:
Tries by Jamie Noon, Ben Cohen and Shaun Perry
Conversion and penalty goal by Charlie Hodgson
    For the All Blacks:
Tries by Aaron Mauger, Joe Rokocoko, Carl Hayman and Daniel Carter
3 conversions and 5 penalty goals by Carter

lkasjdfkajdvlkajnvlkasndfwefpok, biggest defeat suffered by England at Twickenham and Carter set an All Blacks record for points in a game against them. Thank jebus and the Flying Spaghetti Monster that Evans injured his hamstring. England have a lot of work to do ahead of the series against the Springboks. The only consolation is that the Boks are resting a fair few of their front-line players. New Zealand on the other hand go to France with a huge boost, with a strong line-out and domination over one of the best scrums in Europe.

Agaghasghashgashghashgasghasgh. England only has one world-class no. 10 while South Africa and France are still looking for their guy. At least the ABs and the Wallabies have plenty of cover in those areas.

England: I Balshaw (Gloucester); P Sackey (Wasps), J Noon (Newcastle), A Allen (Gloucester), B Cohen (Northampton); C Hodgson (Sale Sharks), S Perry (Bristol); P Freshwater (Perpignan), G Chuter (Leicester), J White (Leicester), D Grewcock (Bath), B Kay (Leicester), M Corry (Leicester, capt), L Moody (Leicester), P Sanderson (Worcester).
Replacements: L Mears (Bath), S Turner (Sale Sharks), T Palmer (Wasps), M Lund (Sale Sharks), P Richards (Gloucester), T Flood (Newcastle), J Lewsey (Wasps)

I understand we're playing crap, so this isn't exactly an excuse. But that team is getting on for third- or fourth-string. Not surprised Argentina won, not surprised we're doing so badly recently. But it's not a reflection upon us at our best at all.

Easy: drop Moody and bring in a scavenger at 7, like Tom Rees or Magnus Lund. Move Sanderson from 8 and put him in at the blindside. Look at the test at Twickenham against the ABs last year. He did quite well against the All Blacks loose trio and put Corry back into 8, where he's played a lot. Drop Grewcock as soon as Borthwick is fit. Develop a first-five that is consistent. Finally, get into developing a backline and toughening up the English forwards. Look at the 2001~2003 vintage of England. They had an exceptional forward pack that could create all the time and space in the world for their backline with a point-scoring machine in the form of Wilkinson that could put in 3 points from anywhere.

He was a good assistant coach, but he's clueless right now. Is Ollie Smith injured? It's quite confusing as to why he hasn't had a sniff of the England jersey since the Lions tour, where he was one of the few English players not to make a fool of himself.

Ireland 32 - 15 South Africa in Dublin
    For Ireland:
Tries by Andrew Trimble, David Wallace, Marcus Horan and Shane Horgan
3 conversions and 2 penalty goals by Ronan O'Gara
    For the Springboks:
Tries by Francois Steyn and Bryan Habana
Conversion and penalty goal by Andre Pretorius

France 3 - 47 New Zealand in Lyon
    For France:
    Dropped goal by Florien Fritz
    For the All Blacks:
Tries by Sitiveni Sivivatu (2), Richie McCaw, Daniel Carter, Conrad Smith, Joe Rokocoko and Luke McAlister
3 conversions and 2 penalty goals by Carter

New Zealand has sounded as ominous a warning as you can get with a record win over France in Europe in a 7-tries-to-nil display. The All Blacks laid destruction once again on the French scrum, while the French attack was pushed back each and every time they had the ball by the All Blacks defence. The French wingers, Rougerie and Dominici were forced to go sideways or backtrack every time they got the ball, since there were black jerseys all over them like a bad smell. Fabien Pelous said the French defeat in Paris two years ago was the worst day in his career, but I think we have a new winner here. The most terrifying things (for everyone else) are 1) the All Blacks have had a rotation policy in place, meaning at no point in the last couple of years has a first XV been fielded and 2) this was a match between the teams ranked 1 and 2 in the world.
Out of the French, Elvis Vermuelen has got to have played his way into next week's team in the second test in the series. He had a good game, or at least about as good as someone in his position can get.
