We were out as soon as we lost to Panama and had to get a result against Uruguay. sigh

We should have made it to the knock out stages with that group.

I've never been a full bore diehard Gregg-out kinda fan. Always thought he left meat on the bone in different areas kinda continuously throughout his tenure, but he steered the ship back from the Couva nightmare through the '22 World Cup, including a Gold Cup and 3 Nations League titles. 2018-2022 was it's own sort of measured success and Berhalter should be credited with that. But that should just be that.

It's just time to move on now. The fans are having a full blown revolt/meltdown over the manager. The optics of the performance at Copa was essentially disastrous. I'm not one to blame the manager for a player losing his cool, getting a straight red, and basically costing the team 3 absolutely vital points, but it kinda doesn't even matter at this point versus the result. And again, the result was a disaster.

We need a new voice, a new vision, and a new guidance. We leveled up from the tragic end of 2017 and are on the cusp of what could (and should) be the most meaningful era in the sport in this country heading into 2026. This can't be left to just being good enough. It needs to be a home run. This roster and this program needs a swift and direct kick in it's ass. And Gregg ain't that guy.

Canada made it through to the elimination round while both Mexico and the US did not? Spicy…

Canada made it through the group, and it can certainly be argued that that's all that matters at this stage and I wouldn't fault you for feeling that way.

But if you're being honest, you scored 1 goal in 3 group stage matches while having a man-advantage for over a full 90 minutes of play between 2 of them.

You can rightly shit all over the US's performance, they deserve it. But let's not act like Canada have done anything at this tournament other than keep it's mouth and nose barely above water.

That's where I'm at as well.

If this was the first time we'd lost composure when someone got chippy with us.....

The question is can Berhalter get us to play with more discipline? Not sure there's much evidence he can at this point.

On a side note, had a friend text me from the game yesterday asking if the officiating was as bad on tv as it looked at the stadium. Ah...Copa......

Yeah I have been fan of Berhalter but not a die hard. But I think it is time to move on. We should have made it out of the group. We need a change before the next Cup.

The Canadians are staking their claim for North American supremacy.

Meanwhile all we can hope is that US Soccer finds the money to go big for their next hire.

Reports they reached out to Klopp but nothing is moving forward there. Lets see who they can land.

And yeah Canada has been the better CONACAF team in recent years.

I think that's debatable at best. They've got all of 2 wins against us going back as far as you'd like to make that point, when we've beat them repeatedly.

We've also taken multiple confederation trophies to their whopping none.

Their big claim to fame is topping the group in WCQ, which is essentially meaningless, and eking their way to a Copa semi-final while we unceremoniously shit the bed.

In recent years they topped WCQ which yes I know is not a big deal to some but still something. They faired better than us in Copa. We did beat them in the Nations League final last year. And they do have confederation trophies but most recent was 2000. Either way yes overall us and Mexico are the top teams but Canada has been doing well recently even if they lose to us along the way.

I'm not gonna do a side by side list of accomplishments for both teams because I don't feel like it and I doubt you really want to slog through reading it. Suffice to say it's lopsided.

Canada have certainly risen their program over the years from complete obscurity and kudos to them, they're still looking up in concacaf though.

But that's also like arguing over who did better in the special olympics. Both squads still have a ton of work to establish themselves as a worldwide threat, and that should be the real goal.

I know this is the US thread, but typically the most active.

I was thinking of trying a fantasy league for the premiere league this year. Any of you done that? Potentially interested?

It's not just the women's team at the Olympics.

The Canadian soccer CEO said himself they used drones to do the same at the Copa and several other past events, both men's and women's.

    Oh, Canada..

The Poch Era sounds genuinely exciting. I had my doubts they'd swing as big as this.

Right.. Klopp was never gonna walk through that door. And then there were whispers of Southgate and that made me queezy.

This is about as hopeful and energizing yet pragmatic as any of us could've hoped for.

Next camp in less than a month.

Tip of the cap to Canada on this one. They played direct on every duel and showed us up particularly in the midfield in that department.

Looking forward to running it back with a full A squad in a real competition after Poch gets ahold of this bunch.

St Louis named a new coach. I think they still fired our first coach too fast after the bad start of the season. I think expectations were too high after such a great regular season our first year.

I will say that maybe they do need to tweak playoffs again. We were the top seed in our conference and last our first year. This year Miami is supporter's shield and lose right out of the gate. I am not against just doing a table like most league but probably not on the table for us here in North America. We love our playoffs and what not plus that brings in money as well.

Considering there are real talks about changing to a fall schedule I'd think most things are on the 'table'..

    (pun entirely intended)

I think die hard soccer fans would be on board for just doing a table each season. More casual fans maybe not so much. But also again money brought in from those playoff games might play a factor.

I agree about the money, and I don't think there's much getting around that part of it. But I also think logistically one of the bigger reasons we have sports in the states that have divisions and conferences and eventually playoffs of those is that this is just too big a country geographically to have an even table for all teams. You can't really ask a Seattle or a Miami or a New York to play clear across the country half their schedule when teams in the midwest wouldn't be demanded near that kind of travel.

Not a big deal to have one table of teams playing all identical schedules when a third of your league all play in the same city and your entire country is smaller than Michigan.
