Atlanta were going to slip up somewhere to be honest. Its been coming for weeks.
They had 2 or 3 good chances to seal 2nd place and avoid that knockout game but it just never happened for one reason or another. Coupled with all the Atlanta hype, the writing was on the wall so to speak.
I thought they looked knackered. Josef looked nowhere near as energetic as usual and was regularly slow to get back onside if he did make a run. Almiron struggled to get in the game though could just as easily have won it with one of three wonderstrikes that went close, I wonder how fit he was.

Sadly not. Because the fucking geniuses put a championship game at 4PM in the afternoon local time when I'm still at work. For one of the teams that means 1PM is the start for their fans (Seattle). It's ridiculous that they couldn't get a prime time slot for the championship.

It's unfortunate what a polarizing figure Bradley is. The man plays such a useful, valuable game. But it's always either feast or famine in his evaluations by folks, with one seemingly always a heated reaction to the very idea of the other.
Speaking only to his national team play and criticism here as I've only caught a smattering of his club side.
His style of play at times can look lazy and when his team loses it gives the impression he didn’t care enough.
He ran that game from start to finish. First ever 10/10 I've given at work. Delighted with that, thoroughly deserved win for TFC. Hopefully the cup is on display when I'm there next year.

What a bounce back for TFC tonight in the champions league. Sure the pitch was an absolute embarrassment (who could have predicted 3 games in 9 games in Canadian winter might lead to an awful pitch?). But after that shocking defeat to Columbus on the weekend, beating Tigres is great.
Still everything to play for in the second leg though since they did get that away goal.
Same for Colorado. There's an odd number of teams this year so 1 or 3 teams take a break each week.
Its been a great week for MLS in the champions league in general. The return legs for both TFC and Sounders are going to be tough but if they can make it through along with Red Bulls it would be a massive moment for MLS and could signify a big turning point.

MLS announced a match between the La Liga champ and MLS champ and it will be an ongoing thing. This is nice. I remember that year they tried to do a tournament with MLS teams and La Liga teams and the interest was not there and they only did it once. Just doing the champs facing off to gain some interest is probably better. Our teams are still play each other in the champions league.

End of the day it's still CONCACAF trained refs that are making the final VAR decisions. The Higuain call was right in my mind but the lack of consistency with missing the Martinez swipe undermines it.
It was a trip, it wasn't a red card. Not reckless, no studs, low chance of injury and he's on control. The fact it's trained referees doesn't make the blind bit of difference, it's proven to just be giving them two bites at giving the wrong decision. The only difference is it's ruining the experience for the TV viewer and dramatically ruining the experience for the match going fan.
What about the Waston decision the other week? It cost 5 minutes of game time to get a video review and ultimately give a red card. The red card then got overturned in midweek. It's so so bad.
You misunderstood what I was saying about concacaf refs. They are the absolute worst refs in the world.
Having said all that, I still like the idea of VAR but I think for many things it's taking too long to make a decision. I also disagree that it ruins the experience for the TV viewer. For controversial calls they get replayed all the time anyways VAR or not. For people in the stadium though it is how long it takes that ruins it and until they can speed it up it will continue to be a downside.
Getting the correct decision though in my mind is always going to be the most important, the problem is many times they still don't.

Just saw highlights of the game but nice start for him and hey DC won in the debut of their new stadium. Pretty sure they are still in last place though even though I love them.
DC turning things around at least short term with Rooney as the new captain. The other day he ran back and made a great defensive stop and brought the ball forward and made a great cross for Acosta to put in the winning goal in stoppage time. Yesterday he had two goals including one from a nice free kick. Lets see if DC can keep it up.

I am trying to not get my hopes up again. Gerber has basically said that if St. Louis can get a stadium deal in place with a stable ownership group we will get one of the expansion teams. Hell before the public vote last year that shot down the stadium deal MLS said if we were awarded a team that we would get the all-star game within five years of joining the league.
Again I am not getting my hopes up. This is a different group and different deal and looks like won't need a public vote because they are not asking for as much help from the city so only the aldermen would vote on the legislation needed to get it done. That is great and probably increases the chances of it getting done but just have trouble believing that it will get done.
But we shall see.

So looks like St. Louis is in a pretty good spot to land a team in MLS. We shall see.
The local USL Championship side Saint Louis FC will be hosting the Chicago Fire in the 4th round of the US Open Cup here in a couple weeks. I would love to go see that. Fully expect the Fire to send a reserve squad mostly and probably will still win but still always cool to see an MLS side come to a lower division side for a US Open Cup match up.

Beat the Fire and moved to the quarter-finals. Lost to Atlanta 2-0 at Atlanta. It was 0-0 at half but at the end of the day the defending MLS champs got the job done. Magical run though that included two wins over MLS teams and they got a bonus via tie break for being the USL team to make it the furthest. Another USL team also made it to the quarters and lost.
