So how ugly is the MLS All Star game going to be? Wish they would just do a normal All-Star game.

All-Star games don't matter, I'd rather this format.

Bring on the Klinsmann speculation. Supposed to have an announcement tomorrow, though, and a Mexico friendly is coming up.

Why? I would rather see the conferences play each other. No need in seeing ManU kick the all star team ass 2 years in a row.

Not shocked Bradley is gone. We didn't do bad under him but could have done better.

Because it's entertaining. I had a great time watching Man U batter the MLS team. Plus, the more I get to see legit players, the better.

Maybe if MLS wasn't such a downgrade in quality I wouldn't welcome it.

Really? I thought he did well in the World Cup, got to the final of the confederations cup and got to the Gold Cup final twice didn't he? I think that's a decent record.

Overall not bad. Won the Gold Cup once but lost final more than once.

Final of the Confederation Cup but remember we lost two group games and barely made it in before beating Spain and losing to Brazil in the final.

Round of 16 at World Cup after winning group but honestly that was not our best performance and probably should have done better. Instead we make it through on that last minute goal and lose a winnable game against Ghana in the round of 16.

Performance since Cup has not been great. Lost first group game ever in Gold Cup. Blew 2-0 lead against Mexico in final.

Overall not a bad record and kind of surprising he is out before the next Cup but if you are going to make the change this is the time to do it before we start qualification.

But if we win that game then well the European team is in preseason. If we lose the game will MLS sucks. MLS doesn't suck but it not up to par with European leagues either. I would just rather watch the All-Stars play each other and watch the separate MLS teams playing friendlies against the European sides like they already do.

For the calibre of player at his disposal I'd say that's pretty impressive. His football was pretty boring but the results are solid.

Agreed. And I'm glad we avoided Panama, to be honest. But really, with CONCACAF being what it is, it doesn't (or shouldn't) really matter who we play.

I want to see some lopsided scorelines Klinsmann. ÜSMNT.

So Klinsmann is going with a different system for assigning numbers.

Starters will wear 1-11 and reserves 12-18 and no names on the kits. This is to focus on what is important and that is the crest of the kit.

    Lame.

Just let them where whatever number they want and have their names there. Is that really going to take away from them focusing on playing for their country? If that takes away from a player focusing then I don't want them on the team in the team in the first place.

USA/Mexico relegated to ESPN News because of the Little League (baseball) World Series regionals.

Just realized it was streaming on ESPN3 and that I could have caught the second half after I got home.

At least we got a draw and from what I am seeing on twitter right now is that they really did well in the second half after he made the subs. I need to see this tackle that only drew a yellow card.

First half was really alarming to watch. No shape, no fire, Edson Buddle was somewhere between useless and medically dead. Second half was like a whole other team took the field, with Agudelo and Brek Shea looking phenomenal.

Also, fuck Little League Baseball for screwing up my DVR. Who the fuck wants to watch that anyway.

Just saw where MLS killed the Super Liga tournament. Kind of liked that tournament just because it gave MLS teams a chance to play some other competition. Oh well. Not that they really pushed it or anything after the first go around that I can remember.

MTR, the no names on the jersey were cause they didn't have enough time to get it done. As far as the numbers thing goes, Klinsmann wants them to know no one's position is guaranteed. I'm all for it.

    ...

As Jojo said, first 70 minutes were wank, the rest was delightful. Please don't play Torres out wide again.

Alright lads, I joined the MLS bandwagon for one game and went and watched THE GALAXY vs Dallas the other week. I'll be honest I only went because David Beckham was playing, but any game of footy entertains me.

Although I was helped massively by the fact it was (and probably normally is) the David Beckham show. Every kid seemed to have him or Donovan on the back of his shirt. The free pack of Galaxy player cards I got came WITHOUT Beckham and was told if you bought something from the club shop you got an EXCLUSIVE OMG BECKHAM CARD.

I was surprised to see, what you guys called "SCALPERS", outside the stadium, even moreso when I got inside and it wasn't anywhere near capacity. Do any of your games do?

Beckham seemed to do be doing most of the captaincy duties, going over to players, getting them hyped for the game.

I found it a bit odd when there was a line up for the game and there was your national anthem sung by some hot blonde. Which nobody joined in with (is that normal) and EVERY player apart from Beckham was holding their chest for it. The programme told me that a fair few players weren't American, so why were they doing that?

There were also ridiculous fireworks before the game, which caused immense amount of smoke on the pitch when the game was about to start and meant loads of oriental blokes who set off the fireworks had to pick up all the spare bits which had fallen off.

This is when the Galaxy fans behind the goal chucked loads of streamers over the net and made the oriental people pick all this stuff up.

The game kicks off and it's basically the Beckham show, putting passes on a plate for people from 30 and 40 yards and just getting down to tie his shoe as Adam Cristman regularly fucked up the play, he is fucking awful.

Shea for Dallas looked to be a good little player and Chavez scored a cracker.

Beckham set up two and the other came from his ball into the box. I was expecting him to be quite laid back but it seems he really gives a fuck regularly arguing with the refs and dishing out a few snide fouls. My favourite bit came when he was annoyed at a decision, booted the ball in the air (which the lino saw) and was booked. He was fucking annoyed at the lino, then got the ball passed it and just fell over. The ref gave the foul on him (and seemed to alot) and Beckham was shouting at the lino (YOU DIDN'T SEE THAT DID YOU?!). Hilarious at the time.

The Galaxy fans never stopped singing and I had a great time.

    Donovan was pretty crap.

Seattle is pretty much the only club that fills the stadium to capacity. Toronto and Kansas City do very well, though. I think the league average is somewhere between 75-80% with an average capacity around 27,000.

Singing of the national anthem isn't very popular for domestic games in any sport here, with the exception of those featuring Canadian opponents. As far as the holding the chest, that's a pretty standard display from players & spectators as opposed to singing. Occasionally, players who don't put their hand over their heart get labeled disrespectful and UNAMERICAN which is stupid.

    Robbie Keane heading to LA.

LA already sitting a top of the league. Guess they want to make sure they win the Cup this year.

How does that Galaxy number 17 still get in the team with Keane there? Bloody shit he is.

CHICAGO -- Jurgen Klinsmann isn't the only German switching to the U.S. men's team.

Fabian Johnson, who started for Germany in the final of the Under-21 European Championship just two years ago, switched allegiance to the United States and was among 24 players chosen by Klinsmann on Thursday for exhibitions against Costa Rica and Belgium next month. The midfielder joins right back Timmy Chandler, a German-born defender who made his U.S. debut earlier this year.

Beckham helped bring another championship to LA before his contract was up. Nice to see. Be interesting to see what he does now.

That's the general consensus over here. Most journalists say that they expect him to go to PSG but that in America they are optimistic that he will stay because his family is settled.

One French journalist on Football Weekly said that Becks had already signed a contract to be a pundit on a French television channel.

What are your thoughts on Tim Ream guys? I think he's been on trial with West Brom as Roy Hodgson has said they'll look to sign him in January.

Not using this thread enough. Friendly against Italy tomorrow. Donovan out but Dempsey is in the line up. Should be interesting as we start getting ready for world cup qualifying.

Ugh. My work computer needs a flash player update to stream anything on ESPN3 and stupid work won't let us update anything on our computers. We don't have admin privileges. Can't watch game against Italy. Burt I do see we are currently up 1-0

    FUCK ROSSI

Only got to see the first few minutes, came back and saw we're up 1-0.

From what I've see our D has done a pretty fantastic, physical job, which is unheard of so the few minutes I've seen are probably anomalies.

    BTW, Dempsey sporting the 10.

    BOOM.

The list of teams that Dempsey has scored against must stack up amongst the best. He always seems to score against the top sides.

You knew he would when he said he'd rather sit on the bench in England than start in MLS so he could learn, elevate his game and earn his spot.

Off the top of my head he has scored against Brazil, Spain, Italy, England, Chelsea, Liverpool (to keep Fulham up?), Juventus in the last minute, Man Utd, Man City. Always turns up when it matters.

Aye, he scored the goal to keep Fulham up. It felt like winning the FA Cup or something at the moment.

Relegation should be in every sport just so really shitty teams can give their fans something to get crazy or heartbroken about in a similar way to winning or losing the final for the championship.

I doubt it which just keeps hampering things with developing the league and our players that play here. I think they are taking all FIFA dates off now though which is a change.

    AMMEERRRIIICCCAAAAAAAAA

    FUUUCCCKKKK YYEEEAAAHHHHHHHH

I know relegation would never happen here. Still think it'd be great, though.

What's the MLS reasoning for not using a normal schedule?

I mean right now they're going up against the NBA and NHL playoffs to start the season, and then going against the MLB full season and playoffs and THEN going against the start of the NFL season while the MLS playoffs are already going against the MLB playoffs. I hope I got the whole clusterfuck right there.

Meanwhile if they do a normal schedule they're going against NBA and NHL regular season, no baseball or NFL in sight.

Unless I'm wrong here, and I could very well be.

Wouldn't it be up against the NFL no matter what?

Personally I'd prefer Europe to adopt a summer league like America and Ireland have. There's a romantic attachment to watching football on dreary November and February evenings but give me summer football any day.

Football in the freezing cold is horrible. Also walking from pub to ground in the rain isn't that pleasant either. The best days at the football are on days with weather like today.

Doesn't MLS play games on Thursdays sometimes or did they stop that?

Either way if you play at the same time as everyone else then they compete against NFL and college football. Plus basketball(NBA and college) and hockey. They are going to compete against other sports either way it goes. But they are not going to get any games on during football season for sure because all the major stations are showing college or pro football.

I would like to see them match up with everyone else but honestly this is not bad.

A good effort by TFC in CONCACAF champions league last night. They had the Galaxy down 2-0 at the half but managed to fall into a tie in the 89th minute. The crowd at the Rogers Centre, beer can throwing at Beckham aside, was awesome. Anyone who doesn't think proper football/soccer could work in Toronto should view tape on last night's game. It's abundantly clear that the support is here. And this for a team that's never played a single MLS playoff game in franchise history. Imagine the support we would have if we actually won something...

At least I'm old enough to remember the World Series years. Kids these days don't even have that...

Here's hoping Winter has something with this team. The Galaxy are the class of the league so a 2-0 lead and eventual tie with them may speak to improvement for the upcoming year. One can hope.

So what the fuck happened in the last round of matches for the US. Start off great with the first victory only to get beat by essentially a U-23 team that Brazil put on the field. The limped on after that and let a win get away from them against Guatamala in WC qualifying. These team just keeps going up and down and up and down with Klinsmann. Driving me crazy. At least Dempsey and Donovan were back on the field together for the first time in a long time.

Also is there always a guy chopping wood at the Portland games? The bit of wood is getting passed around the crowd? What the hell is going on?

Have to say I am in a state of shock. The US beat Mexico for the first time in Mexico last night. Big moment for us. We had Mexico's number for a while a few years back but Mexico has turned it back around and has the young talent to be a powerhouse for a while to come.

Just bumping since MLS just had their draft, last round of WC qualifying is about to start and the Gold Cup is coming up and the sites for the games were released today.

US and Mexico will not have full strength squads at the Gold Cup this year.

Think New England Revolution have signed one of my clubs players... Marko Jesic. Has scored for fun in our reserves/youth team but has failed to make the step up to the A-League.

Fully expect him to be amazing, probably score 30 goals and end up in the national team.

Surely the A league isn't better quality than the MLS, is it?

Nope... my point is though that he has been absolutely killing it in reserves/youth, hasn't been given a chance at senior level this season and will likely end up being yet another one of those players we give the arse that turns to gold somewhere else.

    I miss Dan the Man.

US wins in the snow against Costa Rica and actually gets a point out of Mexico down at Azteca. Not easy to do. Mexico is struggling to start this final hexagon to get into the World Cup. They are going to qualify but they need to pick it up and we need to keep it going after that surprising loss to start.

Also Man City is playing Chelsea here in St. Louis in May. Excited to get to go watch two Premier team leagues play even if I don't like either one.

We are trying to get tickets to Chelsea/Man City, but fear they may sell out today.

Get ready to buy tickets for another game at the end of the summer. Looks like Real Madrid will play a friendly in the Dome.

DC United won the US Open Cup despite a terrible(understatement) season.

And a third game is coming to St. Louis. Argentina is coming to town to play a friendly in Nov. Chance to see Messi. Sadly though I don't see myself going this time around but I have not ruled it out yet.

Don't remind me Grim...but we are just minutes away from putting him, Henry, and the rest of the bulls out of the playoffs.

    Yeah so fuck you, Xtreme.

I can't wait for us to get the new stadium and team in Queens so I don't have to trek to fucking Harrison, New Jersey to watch RBNY and live through their litany of mediocrity and disasters.

Who was the fucking genius that thought David Carney was a good signing for NY?
