NCAA Final Four for the men is here in St. Louis this weekend. Should be interesting to see how things go considering the weather. Poor guys though. Two of the teams are from California. They have all said it doesn't matter though and they are here to win.

It sold out in a week and that was a while back but yeah they are not going to have huge crowds there now though. Not that there was a lot of seats to begin with. That is a small venue really as far as seating goes. I was surprised to hear that we got to host.

No invites I see. Strickly region teams competing this time around.

    How big's the venue?

Interesting switheroo on the no invites thing considering we're actually accepting our own invitation this time around.

How long until there's finally just a single federation for the Americas? It can't do anything but strengthen this hemisphere against Europe.

300 tickets available now and games moved until tomorrow with title game still set for Sunday.

Here is a page about the venue.

    http://slubillikens.cstv.com/school-...es-soccer.html

Just over 6,000 capacity. I was thinking it was less than that.

Not only is Fox Sports saying it will be Klinsmann, they went to the trouble of crafting a pretty comprehensive article.

Talk of Bradley as an interim guy.

Just two international matches coming up starting in a month, anyway.

I don't want an interim guy. If they were going to do that they should have already done it and played some matches. Fuck that. Just finalize a deal with someone already.

You wont get Hiddink though, he's only just taken over Russia, and the KGB will have him bumped if he tries to leave.

Just read where we can actually watch the next European Championships.

Granted money says we still can't watch the Gold Cup except on a spanish speaking channel. Probably the same for Copa America.

ESPN not carrying it at all just boggles my mind.

THEY SHOWED THE FUCKING DOMINOES CHAMPIONSHIP.

Doesn't MLS have a deal with ESPN now?

How could MLS get a deal while FIFA and CONCACAF can't get anything done?

I'd assume that Fox Soccer Channel would show a bunch of stuff, though, eh? I mean they've been showing Euro qualifiers and the like.

As far I know last time they did not show any Gold Cup games. Only games were on telemundo and galavision and the such. You would think if ESPN is not going to show Gold Cup games that at least Fox Soccer channel would but that would make sense or something. Who knows they may show some stuff but I doubt it.

No but seriously why won't they do it? There are like 300 countries in Europe all grouped in the same group and like 60 countries in the Americas in two different groups.

    BOGGLES THE MIND.

    WHERE'S KLINSI?

    FUCK.

South american teams would dominate and the game in north america would suffer massively which is bad for football in the long term.

Any news on if Adu has settled on where hes going in the summer? Ill be pissed if Chelsea get him.

Right now he is saying he will stay in MLS the whole season but that could change. Chelsea would be his choice though I think if he had the option.

So that he could play with the premiere American talent, Mr. Bobby Danvey. I mean Convey. Convey.

But he could play with Friedel. I want him on the side I support dammit. Granted I was behind Reading last year in the Championship but they had to go and get promoted.

Well everything that I've heard indicates that Reading's fans seem to be the most willing to accept an American, not to mention that he'd be working in the midfeild with Convey (a little bit of extra wrok between the two for the Nats). Reading have two Americans already (as does Fulham and Man City), and they are in need of some midfield/offensive help with their injury crunch. Just seems to be the best place for him to me as I think London would give him too much room to get himself into trouble.

Yeah but his bad boy image fits in just great at Blackburn. And that would give us another team with two Americans.

Nowak out as DC United coach and now assistant coach for Bradley on the U-23 team and full national team.

I think I would like to see Nowak as head coach though instead of just an assistant.

Very much hoping to get looks at Boswell, Pearce, Mapp and Cooper. I hate to have already written off Jaqua, especially since we need all the forward depth (and skill, actually) we can get, but I just don't see him translating to a successful international player.

    Altidore > Adu

Also, Todd Dunivant, defender for Red Bull, was also just invited to the USMNT camp.

One person I'd have thought would get more of a look was Marvelle Wynne, based purely on speed. He doesn't have the best ball skills but he's the flash. That, of course, coming from a homer, but you've really gotta see this guy fly.

Reyna wants out of Manchester City due to family reasons it seems. But Pearce won't let him out unless it works in the best interest of the club.

Of course if Dempsey gets a work permit he is headed to Fulham. Onyewu was on his way but no deal was made.

Training camp is going on to prepare for the upcoming game so it should be interesting to see who shines now that we have holes to fill.

Onyewu didn't make it because he failed a physical, right?

The former England captain is to quit Madrid when his contract runs out in June after agreeing a deal worth £128million.

He will kick-off the new MLS season in August.

Beckham said in a statement: "This week, Real Madrid asked me to make a decision regarding my future and the offer to extend my contract by a further two seasons.

"After discussing several options with my family and advisers to either stay here at Madrid or join other major British and European clubs, I have decided to join the Los Angeles Galaxy and play in the MLS from August this year.

"I would like to thank the supporters and people of Madrid who have made my family and I feel so welcome in my time here, making this an extremely difficult decision to make.

"I have enjoyed my time in Spain enormously and I am extremely grateful to the club for giving me the opportunity to play for such a great team and their amazing fans.

"I am proud to have played for two of the biggest clubs in football and I look forward to the new challenge of growing the world's most popular game in a country that is as passionate about its sport as my own.

"For the rest of this season I will continue to give 100 per cent to my coach, team mates and fans as I believe Fabio Capello will bring this club and its supporters the success they truly deserve."

The announcement comes after days of speculation over Beckham's future with a host of clubs across Europe linked with the former England captain.

In terms of finances it is a mega deal and compares with the biggest in mainstream US sports American football and baseball.

The MLS have recently changed their salary cap rules to allow sides to make 'marquee signings' of top international stars. The Beckham deal will see the 31-year-old benefit directly from all his image rights and related sponsorship deals which, in the past, have had to be shared with his club.

Beckham's Madrid future had been shrouded in doubt, especially after coach Fabio Capello dropped him from the squad - the first time it had happened to Beckham since he moved from Manchester United in July 2003.

During those three and a half years, Beckham has seen six different coaches appointed while Real have failed to win a single trophy.

There's a documantary been made about that period in American Soccer (hate using that fucking word but doing so for claritys sake) and it does show just how massive it got in a short space of time and how Pele was seen as a sort of demi-god.

It was massive (and not just in a comparative way) in the 70s. The NASL in its prime was far more popular than MLS has ever been.

Any buzz that would have gone to that is gone thanks to Beckham. From what I heard there was not really a great number of people that is in the draft that could make an impact or anything.

Toronto took a kid from Maryland with the first pick and not surprisingly LA traded away both of their first round picks for allocation money including a portion of the Dempsey money.

Hmmm...Reyna going to New York according some reports. Wonder if he will be one of their designated players.

    Also SuperLiga was introduced.

    http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/st...399881&cc=5901

I had heard that they were going to do this and depending on how it goes this could replace the Champions Cup. Now I like this but if they want to replace the Champions Cup they are going to have to let other countries get teams in there considering other teams win the Champions Cup and not just MLS or Mexican teams.

Yeah just saw that only 8 teams will be in the USOC this year. Strange. They don't directly conflict according to the USOC website. Why not do both unless the games directly conflict?

They really need to realize that a calendar has 12 months. I know they want to do anything they can to avoid the NFL, but it's not possible and not necessary. If English clubs can find time for the half dozen tournaments they engage in, so can MLS clubs.

That said, I'm way in favor of this thing.

SuperLiga is after the Gold Cup and I am not sure how much an overlap it would be with Copa America. Not sure about anything else.

I am in favor of this but they should not opt out of the USOC. Play as many tournaments as you can. Premiership teams play the league cup, FA Cup and in Europe if they qualified.

Los Angeles Galaxy vs. Chivas de Guadalajara

Think that game will sellout in LA?

DC playing all group games at home.

Preki takes over as Chivas coach. I didn't realize he was an assistant coach there under Bradley.

Jesus. I don't even watch MLS and I was compelled to read this.

    Great points.

I completely forgot about the game today, but it looks like I'll have to catch a replay, because three out of four ain't bad.

Jonathan Bornstein tucked home the winner just before the hour mark after some dazzling industry from Justin Mapp.

The Chicago Fire man beat a clueless marker as he switched to the right side of the field, then split two defenders into the area before setting up the MLS Rookie of the Year on the doorstep for his first international goal.

Kenny Cooper also rang the bell on his debut, breaking away with a smart Heath Pearce long feed to calmly slot past Christiansen with 10 minutes remaining.
Technically Boswell played too, but I'm just saying... do I know how to pick'em or what?

No seriously, look how good I am.

Justin Mapp, 7 -- His highlight-reel assist should see him get more playing time. The match against Mexico in a little over two weeks should provide a good indication of his progress.

Kenny Cooper, 6 -- The FC Dallas forward took his goal well and provided the requisite spark that was needed. He sometimes dwelled on the ball too long, but overall had a solid performance.

I called out five guys, four positively and one negatively. The four positive ended up being the lone 7 and three of the five 6s, while Jaqua pulled the game-low 3.

    Toot.

Reyna is leaving Manchester City. They agreed to terminate his contract. It looks like he is headed to New York to play for the Red Bulls.

Reyna to Red Bulls and is going to take up a DP slot. They will still continue to lose to DC though.

    Chelsea has interest in Onyewu.

He has turned down Fulham, Read Madrid, and Middlesbrough in the past. Didn't realize that. I knew about Fulham but not the others.

I'll take Reyna to replace Guevara but now we need someone to replace Youri. In the interest of sparking interest in the game in NY, Reyna isn't going to cut it. Our second DP slot being used on, oh, Ronaldo, though, would spur the billion Hispanics here.

Seems like multiple MLS teams are trying to sign Zidane. They all are being told he is retired.

Chicago tried to sign Larsson too but that didn't work out. They are trying to sign McBride and bring him back to MLS. I wouldn't be surprised to see him back here at some point.

I can see McBride back here but he can clearly still play at a top level in the EPL so I don't see it for a couple of years.

I loved Bruce sucking down those Red Bulls at the press conference today. Absolutely off his rocker.

Celtic is the opponent for the MLS All-Stars this year. And of course there were questions about whether or not Beckham will be at the game or not.

I think Celtic is a good team to bring in like bringing in Chelsea last year.

And I think it is obvious that if Beckham is out of Madrid by then he will be in that game.
