Everyone showing little love for the expansion team, eh? Like betting on Gonzaga as a one seed to win the national title in basketball.

Winnipeg and Minnesota game was fun. The Wild are my favorite team outside of my home-state Redwings, but they are clearly outmatched to the Jets. I don't think they can keep up with them.

First time watching the Vegas Golden Knights and I love the enthusiasm this town has for their new team. That is what hockey is all about.

So glad to see Nashville join Las Vegas in the next round. Both are great teams and I loved watching them win their series. I hope the Sharks sweep the Ducks tonight as well.

    God I am lonely.

It was late and I was wasted on stuff I found in a hospital dumpster. I also caught a bad case of the jynx and passed it on to the Predators! Oh no!

Hate any Boston team with a passion. Toronto needs to leave the Bruins exhausted if they do lose game six.

Sweeps and decisive series wins abound in the NFL, while basketball seems to be muddled with tied series and injuries. I have been finding myself watching hockey during this postseason period instead of basketball. Maybe because of all of the overtime games.

Yea, wild game. Great win. It ended up being 7-4 but it was far closer than that. The Leafs led 4-3 going into the 4th.

The Jets are the real deal. Coming down from 3-0 to put it away 7-4 is nuts. Looks like Canada finally has a chance to win the cup.

I knew the Jets were going to be a fucking handful. Shame on the preds for going up 3-0 and then playing it safe the whole second period.

Like your going to hold this team to 2. You can barely hold them to 4 on a good night.

Absolute shit from the refs last night in the Bruins game. Marchand should be suspended. Absolute no chance the tiring goal should count. Frustrating.

Yes, of course. He would be suspended if he spit on someone, should go the same for licking someone's mouth. It's embarrassing and quite frankly very odd. Marchand is an obvious closet case.

    Wooooooo

Very happy for caps, huge monkey off their back. I think they've lost to the Pens in the playoffs for the past 4yrs consecutively. I am a huge fan of Ovechkin and his exit interview was great. Huge smile and happy they finally beat Crosby.

Kuznestov with the winner. Man, i watched every second of this game and he came so close to scoring on several occasions. I had a feeling he'd eventually get one.

    Good for them.

Now watching jets\preds. Incredible hockey in this series, best hockey I've seen in a long time

From coming back from being down 2-0 to Columbus, to beating a team that has beaten them a thousand times like Pittsburgh, has shown that the Capitals are finally getting past their usual crappy tendencies in the playoffs. The playoffs this year have been great! I don't know who to root for. Winnipeg and Nashville is going to be a good game 7 as well.

Plus if the Preds make it to the finals again I didn't want to see my guys literally getting the brains bashed out of their skulls against the ice again.

Stumbled a bit, 9-3 overall. “Why you play the game...”

Caps/Jets Cup Final, Ovie hopefully gets his first; really want Winnipeg/Vegas to experience the slow death that I’ve faced twice as a Canucks fan...

Yo Damien, you’ve got a Cup banner in your squad’s rafters, so quit it with the theatrics...

Vegas and Winnipeg.... a matchup no could have predicted a year ago, mostly because Vegas didn't have a team. It should be a good game tonight.

Not sure what Toronto's angle is with Dubas? Surely this is the time to get a seasoned GM in the mix to try to push for a cup.

I really like the Dubas promotion, think he’ll do well in that position.

It’s time for NHL teams to stop recycling the same old dinosaurs, start thinking outside the box. Here in Vancouver, we had our best run in franchise history with a hire that came out of leftfield (Gillis).

I think it made more sense 5 years ago for a team like Toronto to hire outside the box and rebuild. The fact is they have rebuilt and are a few key moves away from being a contender. It will be interesting to see if Dubas has the vision to put them over the hump. I'd personally have an experienced GM in for a short term deal to make those moves and then give him his chance.

Maybe he will have some balls and trade Nylander for the D they desperately need.

I am not used to teams I actually like to be the only remaining teams in the conference finals. There is usually a Pittsburgh or Boston hanging around, so I am torn up on who to root for. I want Washington to finally win, but I have ties in Tampa and want them to win. I want Vegas to win it all, but Winnipeg is such a deserving city to bring home the Cup to Canada..... damn, I guess I just have to roll with it and enjoy whoever wins.

Man, this game has turned out to be a high-scoring affair. That is surprising considering the goalies that are starting tonight.

This is a good game. But the NBA Finals have had two good games out of three so far.

this is a great game. I want Washington to win the series but I wouldn't hate Vegas winning tonight just so we get more of this series.

have we talked about how crazy it is that a first year expansion team is in the finals? I think that's unprecedented in American sports

I hate how people are diminishing what they've done because the "expansion rules were different"

Like they were getting the best from teams or something. Sure it wasn't as crushing as previous expansion drafts, but no one looked at this team as a real playoff contender, let alone in the Stanley Cup.

Still tough to put together a Stanley Cup final team out of scratch.

Congrats to the Caps finally overcoming their playoff history.

Montreal and Arizona make a trade. Galchenyuk for Domi. https://www.nhl.com/news/alex-galche...mi/c-299084472

I like this for Arizona but that's about it. With their recent acquisitions of Stepan, Raanta, drafting Keller, and now Galchenyuk I like what they're doing. Not sure what the hell Montreal is doing though.

    Bump for post-draft nonsense.

Liked what the Isles did, St Lou and Philly. Noticing that goaltenders are now becoming the new QBs of fantasy football. You rarely draft one early. Curious about Ottawa's strategy not to give up this year's pick, knowing that Colorado gets their #1, believe it automatically goes to them, no exceptions. Would've liked to see Jett Woo fall to the Hurricanes for obvious promotional reasons.

Not a fan of the Carolina-Calgary trade for Calgary. Give up a good prospect and a solid d-man (Hamilton) for a slightly younger defenseman (hanifin) and a 2nd-line type forward they're planning to stick on the first line.

Biggest FA news so far has Kovalchuk signing with LA for three years, Carlson back with the Caps for big money.

The people in England are right about something coming home. The Stanley Cup is coming home.

Pay no mind to the lack of D.

Just like every other Canadian living outside of THE SIXXXX, the most fundamental component of a successful lifetime is never having to bear witness to the Leafs winning the Cup. Well, troubled waters lie ahead.

I may be in the minority but I think the Islanders will be OK. They lost Halak, who wasn't much of a loss, and you slot Barzal in as your top center now. I think he's capable to be that point producer consistently. Just go out and do something about the goaltending. Future looks bright Isles fans. Young talent around the roster, Uncle Lou will come in and do some work. Had a great draft this year, Wahlstrom should be there in a couple years.

Seeing conflicting reports about Erik Karlsson traded/not traded/being traded. I don't understand what this does for Ottawa, with Colorado getting their #1 pick next year. I'd think you'd do all you can to improve your roster in the short term. It's like they're purposely in the running to #LoseForHughes to help another team.

What are you talking about? There have been rumblings even before the Hoffman fiasco that Karlsson wanted out of Ottawa and after the Kings signed Doughty for 8 years/$88 million, the Sens offered Karlsson an extension for less AAV and he said no thanks. So they need to trade him before the deadline next year. Letting him walk would be franchise suicide.

  60. #17660

Then I missed about him not going along with the extension. All I'd seen is where it was offered but not turned down. I assumed that the Hoffman trade was tied to pleasing Karlsson/keeping him.

I think as soon as the Hoffman situation leaked he needed to be given the boot out of town for numerous reasons. The paltry return from the trade seems to affirm that, no offence to Mikkel Boedker. I'm sure the removal of Hoffman's (and his fiancee's) presence appeased Karlsson to some degree but there are a wide range of factors independent of Hoffman which could Karlsson. The owner, the arena, the competitive balance of the team. The list goes on. It's not a pretty situation, Smeagol.

I don't think there has been a Rajah league in years as far as fantasy hockey goes. Not sure if you would find enough interest.

Back in the day we had fantasy football, baseball, hockey, basketball, golf, nascar and all kinds of various pick 'ems. I used to play way too much fantasy sports.

So the NHL is expanding to Seattle in 3 years. Seems like a good market to add to balance out equal conference numbers though I'd have liked to see Detroit moved back to the west for the Chicago rivalry. I know they got a few WHL teams who've been around awhile so it's not like it's a dead region.

I like to go to minor league games. Michigan has some great minor league baseball and hockey teams. Our pro teams suck too much to pay for expensive seats anyways. Never more than 70 miles away from a college or minor league hockey game!

Big into college hockey. Same with baseball. Could talk that stuff all day more than the pro game. What's closest to you? Western, Tech, UM or MSU?
Figure a hijack talking college sports isn't a big deal since the thread is sporadically replied to. If a separate thread is deserved or encouraged I'll start it.

I knew I was forgetting somebody, which would've been Ferris State, but I honestly kinda blanked out LSSU. I'm in ECAC/Hockey East territory here. Though they dominated, hated seeing Notre Dame go. Good team, fun team to watch and just really well coached and recruited.

Never went to a college hockey game but would be interested. I love going to Blues games but again the cost of pro sports is fucking dumb anymore.

I prefer college basketball to NBA and college football to NFL. It would be easy enough to catch some college basketball games around here but there is the whole having enough time honestly.

My preferred destination for an NHL game would be Carolina. I've been back but not for a game. Tickets are pretty cheap on StubHub, if I remember right last time I went there was plenty of free parking (same for Tampa). They're a fun team to watch even if they're losing a lot. Never been to the Frozen Four but have attended various regionals. The setup sucks - lesson learned about 10 years back - if you're going in for both games, you can't leave and come back. So stock up and eat the good stuff if the venue serves shit. I remember being left to choose between hot dogs, popcorn, cotton candy or holding on for an extra couple hours for something that wasn't circus food.

Michigan State games have always been great, even when the team hasn't. College games make you feel more personally invested than pro ones. Redwings games used to be fun at the Joe though.

With the end of the college season for many teams begins the process of player signings, early departures. Hero, you should be happy... Oliver Wahlstrom, one of the Isles first rounders last year signed an ELC. Was pretty excited about him coming to BC, got to see him play a half dozen times this year. He just looked unmotivated and disinterested though. Like a lot of kids transitioning to college level, probably hate the idea of balancing classes with sports. Same with when Kieffer Bellows was with BU. Do you get to go to any Bridgeport games?

Anyone watch the NCAA hockey tournament over the weekend? Some really good games there. St. Cloud State chokes again as the #1, Minnesota State as their region's #1 got knocked off in the first round. Felt terrible for the Bowling Green goalie giving up that tying goal off his own player, then losing in OT. Cale Makar is so much fun to watch too. Nice to see him leading UMass who is generally one of the worst teams. Games won't pick back up until Thursday the 11th again.

Take that shit somewhere else Smegol, the playoffs are about to start! My Flames are best in the west, Hero's Isles are quite the story, Hurley's Habs are fighting for the last spot, Chris Scott's Leafs, aka God's team aka The Centre of the Universe fulfilled their destiny and will play the Bruins. And Jamstar's Sens well uh they uhh....that Brannstrom is going to be one heck of a player. Also don't worry Matthew one of these decades I promise a Buffalo team will win a playoff game.

I didn't realize Minnesota State has never won a tournament game until the day they lost (I think their loss makes them 0-6 now). Plenty of people complaining about Providence being "gifted" a home game but they're not the host nor is it their arena. Good teams don't just give up 6 goals in a row, as MSU did. I love tournament eliminations and player signings that follow as much as I do following the tournament. Crazy how several teams went from "Core looks good for next year" to "Their team looks like shit now".

And Jamstar's Sens well uh they uhh....that Brannstrom is going to be one heck of a player. Also don't worry Matthew one of these decades I promise a Buffalo team will win a playoff game.
Probably the worst year ever as a Sens fan, one debacle after the other. Never in my life have I seen such a mismanagement of assets from a hockey ops perspective. From losing our franchise player in the offseason, to trading away our TOP 3 scorers (not to mention, our captain in training mark stone, heartbeat of the franchise) at the deadline. Oh, let's not forget about the redevelopment of lebreton flats (near downtown, with promise of new NHL arena) getting railroaded. And finishing last place in the league, only to give that 1st pick to Colorado! UGH. Just a horrible time for the franchise.

On the Brightside we have a tonne of good pieces, moving forward. Lots of new kids with a lot of promise, Batherson, Abramov, Veronneau, Branstrom, Paul, Brown, Balcers, Formenton….not to mention amazing blue chippers Brady Tkachuk & Thomas Chabot who proved themselves as elite level this year. The future should be bright, but it will take 3-5yrs to see where this pans out. Hopefully our owner doesn't trade away all of our talent once they're developed, because he refuses to spend the money. We are like the farm team for the rest of the NHL.

Leafs season started with such hope. If we make it past Boston I will be very surprised.

We got it this year vs Boston. Don’t let them bully us, we’ve got a chance.
