Very good games. Did not think Columbus would come back like that. Exciting games all around. Day 2 should be just as good.

did I hear correctly that the Lightning had the best regular season record in NHL history (and are now down 3-0 in the first round)?

It's called the Seattle Mariners Syndrome. Don't dominate the regular season so much, because you'll never get out of the postseason alive.

Fun team to watch. Good coach, great story with Lehner and him playing so well, great young core and prospects below the NHL.

Nashville will never win a Cup, and they have come so close so many times. Damn good game though. Hope St. Louis wins the series.

That would be the general feeling here in Nashville as well.

Tonight will be a bonanza of riches for hockey fans - not one but TWO game 7s to enjoy.

    My predictions for tonight

    Boston

    SJ

    What you think

Hopefully Toronto, and San Jose has always been one of my favorites that always seem to get close but never win the cup. Should be fun games to watch!

people keep talking about the "boston sweep", that we could hold all 4 major american sports titles at the same time and sort of put an exclamation point on our 20 years of dominance as a city. sure the celtics have a pretty slim chance but I don't think it's impossible. it would be kinda cool.

I didn't see the Knights game but am reading about how upset they are with the penalty. I honestly didn't even remember that on a 5-minute major you stay shorthanded no matter how many goals the other team scores. I watched the replay and I don't think it was deserving of it but what do you guys think?

Still, your penalty kill shouldn't be so bad that you give up 4 goals in 5 minutes.

I think they should be able to review those type of calls like they do in the NBA with the flagrant fouls.

The last time the Maple Leafs won a playoff series, the flip phone was the paragon of mobile technology, Facebook was a few months old, LeBron James had never played in an NBA post-season game and Beyonce was still a member of Destiny’s Child.

It was so long ago that NHL teams still played to ties during the regular season, Alex Ovechkin and Sidney Crosby hadn’t yet been drafted, and Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner were six years old.
    2004 quite shocking that

Checked out on the San Jose game just before they got that first goal. I thought no way they would come back, so I looked at the replay people were mad about today. I kinda understand and think it was a wrong call - a double minor, especially with the blood - would have been the more sensible call, but there's no excuse blowing a 3 goal lead like that even with the long penalty. Or SJ coming back from 3-1 in the series either. Whatever the outcome of tonight's game should be a fun 2nd round. Just feels like the first round has lasted a month already.

The Leafs are suffering from playing in an insane division, so many strong teams. I really like Mike Babcock but this may be the beginning of the end for him. Maybe he should take a punt on the new Seattle team.

What an amazing game! Double OT and an unexpected goal to win it. This is what I have been waiting for in these playoffs! Well worth the wait.

All four division leaders are gone. Crazy. All 4 wild card teams win their first round series. Cinderella winner it is then.

Back to back OT for Bruins/Jackets. Surprised the Jackets didn't get 5 or 6 last night with the constant sloppy passing and puck handling by the Bruins. Just a lot of dumb plays and bad plays. Then on the PK the Columbus formations taking away the shooting lanes the way they always had all four guys playing closer to the net than the blue line was effective.

Carolina with another quality win on the road. I heard from hockey guys that the Islanders had the easiest trip to the Finals than anyone, but Carolina is proving they are hitting their stride at the right time. Them and San Jose are my favorites of the remaining teams right now.

I can understand that. Would the Whalers still have their team name if they still existed? Considering the reputation of whalers nowadays.

I do like what they did to the Miami Dolphins though.

Double overtime and Dallas gets eliminated at the same time. This year's playoffs are great!

    LETS GO BLUES!

Still waiting for them to break my heart per usual but so much fun in the mean time.

an embarrassment of riches this time of the year, with such spectactular hockey all round. So many game 7's, love it. Stayed up late and watched blues/stars last night, what a game.

I'm gonna get behind the Blues for the rest of the playoffs solely because Gloria is an absolute fucking banger of a song.

thoughts on that controversial offside call last night? I didn't see the game but I just watched the clip and it seems very ticky tack, I feel like the goal should have stood. but I don't watch hockey much so I'm not sure of the precedent.

Bruins all the way btw. give me all the parades.

Biggest concern for the Bruins right now might be too much time off. Assuming they complete the sweep tomorrow, if the Western Finals go 7, they would have 9 or 10 days off before playing again.

Otherwise they are cruising and Tuukka is standing on his head (I feel like a total outsider using this term but I've seen it on twitter a million times over the past month).

I'd say their biggest concern is either the sharks or blues.

Blues need to regroup after that terrible call in the last game and tie this series back up.

The blues defensive zone coverage was abysmal last game. That game was there for the taking. I think they have a tough road back from that, and tonight is a must win. They need to tighten up the D-zone and start hitting the net with shots. O'Reilly needs to step up.

The league obviously wants a Thornton cup. It's a bit too obvious at this point.

Best of 3 now. I think the Blues can pull it off but still not going to be easy. If they make it then they have to face a well rested Bruins team though.

I'd say a too-rested Bruins team. I wasn't too high on them to start the season but Cassidy has done really well with mixing top-line elite players with bottom six college players. Fourth-line often being a key factor in games. Honestly prefer St. Louis but either matchup should be great games.

Boston-based teams are about as fun to root for as my grandma's diabetes. I was hoping for San Jose to finally win it all, but I will totally get behind St. Louis if they finish them off. Anyone but Boston please.

Blues look to get to their first SCF tonight with a win over an injured Sharks team. Karlsson, Hertl not playing tonight and Pavelski a game-time decision. Should be a good game

Yeah a Blues cup would be awesome. Hoping we end the conference finals tonight.

Jamstar, Blues have been to the finals before like back in 1970 or something like that. When they first came into the league.

An exciting team. Great story with how shit they were for awhile at the start of the season and looked to be dead.

San Jose was on fumes. St. Louis is the more solid team and has the better chance to take down Boston. I will be rooting for them!

haha sorry 40-50yrs ago. That's like me saying the Ottawa Sens won some Cups back in the early 1900's lol. But yeah, Blues should beat the Bruins this year, imo. Can't believe the Blues were last place in the league this past Jan. Anyways, gonna be an incredible final. I loathe Boston so GO BLUES GO!

oh make no mistake this is really good hockey. I feel really bad for joe thornton and his SJ sharks, but those sharks were without 3 of their top guys last night (karlsson, hertl, pavelski) and for some of the previous game as well. SJ is a great club too but injuries killed them, didn't have the durability down the stretch. Blues play a beautiful game, all big strong lads who punish you every time you touch the puck, wear you down in a 7 game series, but they've got the skill and finesse and SPEED guys (schwartz, tarasenko, o'reilly) to kill you on the transition. Perron from Vegas and Bozak from Toronto were incredible pickups for Blues and where in the hell did Binninngton come from? Jesus, what a beast.

Boston/St. Louis gonna be even BETTER hockey so stay tuned, Simmo.

I will admit I have not been watching the series. I have a lot going on so I keep up a lot on my phone with alerts and such. That being said I will not miss a game of the finals. I am so fucking excited. So hard to believe they were in last place of the conference in Jan and finished 3rd in the division and now are going to be playing for the Stanley Cup. Maybe I will finally get that Blues tattoo I been thinking about.

If they win the Cup this city is going to go nuts. We are already going nuts just getting this far for the first time in 49 years. We have had some good teams in the past that should have had better runs but this team is solid and playing well at the right time.

The last 4 meetings of St. Louis and Boston in the championship round:

    Bruins swept the Blues (1970)
    Patriots beat the Rams (2002)
Red Sox beat the Cardinals (2004, 2013)

Cheapest ticket for game 3 is starting at $834 right now. I hate how much they jack up prices. Average people can not afford to go to games when they do that shit.

Part of me hates the thought of Boston sports fan winning another championship, part of me thinks St Louis should experience the crushing pain of a Stanley Cup Final loss like my team has (three times, two personally).

Sometimes I fucking hate this sport.

PS. Slava Voynov is a piece of shit, fuck whichever team brings him back when/if his suspension is lifted; if my Canucks are that team, I will be furious.

The blues have felt that... three times.

I think Blues bring a game Boston has not seen yet. The prolonged break favors Boston, but they'll have a hard time matching St. Louis with depth.

Not sure why they didnt just start it tonight.

That was a rough game after the first period. Bruins earned that one. I think the Blues will bounce back though. I think they can do it in 6. Despite their road record in the playoffs so far I don't think they can win a game 7 in Boston.

Blues earned that win, were all over them in OT. Huge goal for Gunnarsson, who hit the post in the 3rd.

they really came out hard for the 3rd period as well. It was pure domination from 3rd period on.

I only got to see about half the third and the OT last night but man the Blues were all over them. Especially during that OT. They were determined to win that game. This is going to be a fun series.

First Stanley Cup Finals win for the Blues as well.

Their top line has been virtually invisible, and that's with home ice advantage. St. Louis can match line for line with any combination and Boston has not seen that before. It allows St. Louis to free up the big guns at home and it'll show more than it already has in the next 2 games.

A lot of controversy over a charge when the topic of discussion should have been being allowed to play with no helmet. All the league's emphasis on head contact and you let someone run around completely vulnerable?

Blues would have walked game one if officiating was consistent. One of the more obvious attempts of politics playing a part in the game that I have seen.
