With Buffalo's other recent acquisitions I think they did really well this offseason. Winnipeg and Philly also had a pretty good draft weekend.

I find it absurd that the season starts so early. Doesn't feel like hockey should start until December or even New Year's. If nothing else, they should probably wait a couple more weeks until the baseball playoffs are over. Only real fanatics have time to watch hockey right now.

Yeah, and while shortening the season would probably be better on several fronts, it would mean leaving money on the table. I think a 52 game regular season would be more reasonable. And then you could probably start it in December or the beginning of January and still wrap up early in the summer. Give me a shorter regular season, a widened rink, smaller goalie pads and I'd be a hockey fanatic again. I also might not mind a one game Stanley Cup Final, but that's another case of leaving too much money on the table.

I think 82 games is too long a regular season. Same in the NBA, and they've talked about shortening the season there. Shorter season would be better for player health, make individual games more important, make it easier for casual fans to follow.
The one game Stanley Cup Final thing is something I saw proposed a few years ago. It doesn't make sense beyond the fact that it would be a bigger event than the seven game series. It doesn't make any sense to do because the seven game final draws the best ratings of the season, but one game would be super intense and exciting. Game sevens are great, so they could make the final always be a game seven.

I would totally be down for a 70-72 game regular season though...the Cup getting awarded in mid-May rather than mid-June would be very awesome.

The NHL season is way too long. It is grueling on the players and it is tough as a fan to keep up. I would also love a one game Stanley Cup. But more importantly a shorter season.

Quite frankly I feel bad for the guy. The league would have to be damn-near brain dead to think that something like this would happen but choose to ignore it. Arizona, Montreal, the NHL and the fans should be ashamed of themselves for fucking around with the guy's livelihood. Game 1 in the books. Starting off on the right foot. Elliot was a beast in the net and made some nice saves to keep that shut out and win.
Then again we took the first two games two years ago before losing in 6. So not over until its over.

Love my Blues. Elliot has been a beast in goal. Despite being hosed on some calls St. Louis stayed calm and stayed on course and coming back to St. Louis with a 3-1 lead and could finish the Blackhawks off in 5 games. Not going to be easy but looks like good chance we are out the first round for the first time since like 2012 or something.

We really do. No one on our team can fucking score. Three breakaways last night and no goals to show for it. We were a very good team as recently as 2013 (led Chicago 3-1 in the conference semis) but we've fallen far since then. Need to rebuild around Larkin, Nyquist, and the other young talent. Move on from as many of the old guys as possible (unfortunately contracts limit this, they've been way too loyal over the years).

Second time this series a Blackhawk had the puck go off to post. Sometimes you just need a little luck and a break. Considering some of the calls we got hosed on early in the series I will take the double post.
Great series. Both goalies did a great job considering the amount of shots they had thrown at them. Both of them made some fucking awesome saves including last night. I hate that this was a first round series. Could have easily been a later round series considering how good both teams are.

To be fair, usually that rollercoaster ends in the first round. I'm not going to lie, I'm cheering for the Stars in this one only because the Flames' second rounder in the Kris Russell trade turns into a first rounder if the Stars make it past this round. BUT if the Blues happen to win I'd be fine with them winning the Cup. In fact I'd be fine with most of the remaining teams winning. A lot of new blood out there.
