Oh fuck off your high horses. It was classless. But you’re making it seem like we shot him in the leg and burnt effigies of him.

There are some who definitely deserve your derision such as those who chanted Fuck KD and those waving at him.

what high horse? someone here was actually trying to defend it with the KD chants which we all know weren't genuine. I sure as heck have seen Philly fans act a mess plenty of times. It's just odd to see someone actually trying to justify or explain the cheers.

as wrestling fans we usually have an advanced understanding of sports injuries. no one on this board has any excuse for cheering when the KD injury happened.

Imagine being able to feel two emotions almost simultaneously though. The feeling that your team is going to win a title and the sympathy for a player who is injured. Let alone a player who has no connection to your team. Which emotion is going to show first?

I’m not saying it’s not classless. Just explaining how both the cheers and then the KD chants could both occur without everyone in the stadium being heartless.

Only a sociopath celebrates someone else's injury.

So a stadium full of sociopaths.

That might be the wildest diagnosis I've ever read on the forums.

Most were just responding to peer pressure and crowd dynamics to "join the herd". They were cheering because everyone else was.

But the people who literally cheered because a person got hurt show sociopathic tendencies.

Or this. But I would argue that most drunk people also show sociopathic tendencies.

EDIT: It seems like narcissists is more accurate than sociopaths.

Not implying we are doctors but I guarantee I know more about lets say... tearing quads than the average person.

I know how steroids make the muscles grow so big that they will easily just rip off the bone. I'm a huge basketball fan so I know what it looks like when a player steps awkwardly in a non contact and situation and then he looks down clearly like he heard a pop. More than just being a Wrestling fan, if you are a moderately intelligent sports fan it shouldnt take you seeing an all time great being helped to the back before you realize something is very wrong.

I would love the Warriors to force game 7 and the Raptors to win in game 7 at home. I can imagine how nervous Toronto fans would be for that 7th game though. The momentum would have swung hard the other direction if it gets to that point.

That's kind of what I was trying to get at. Sure, there are some fans who are classless, but more who are simply overexcited about the closer possibility to sensing a better chance at victory.

There is no doubt that if - god forbid - Kawhi has a similar injury early in Game 6, there will be Golden State fans cheering.

I also think how someone gets injured impacts how people react. If someone goes down from a big hit in football. There will be initial cheers but if the player stays down everyone goes quiet. Same thing with something gruesome like the Haywrd injury.

The way Durant seemingly just calmly went down just doesn’t resonate with how bad the injury truly was even though it’s potentially career changing (still think he gets an easy max but more the way he plays going forward will have to be different)

Canadians had to take the NBA title sometime. We have been taking the Stanley Cup away from them for 25 years. Tampa has more Stanley Cups wins since 1994 than all of Canada damnit!

Congrats to the Raptors. Kawhi proving a variety of points with this win. The time off he took against the advice of team doctors made me literally hate his guts. Seeing what he is able to do now that he is healthy, and seeing the tragic turn of events with Durant after he waa cleared to play has proven me and plenty of others dead wrong.

I really hope he stays in Toronto and they try to make another run.

I really hope Klay doesn't have an ACL injury.

I just can't celebrate a team beating a bunch of injured players (no matter how unlikeable they are). Deflating all around. Shitty way to end a season.

Nah. Despite the injuries Steph had the ball down 1 and got a clean shot off. This is the greatest shooter of all time. It was a nice screen play to get him the open look and he missed. It was an awesome game and an awesome series. It was one of the more enjoyable Finals of the last 10 years IMO.

But they were only "down 1" because half the team was gone. I want mano-a-mano for the title. I never like it when teams are not full strength. Like that year when Colt McCoy got hurt 2 plays into the national championship game. I hate Texas but still didn't want that to happen.

For Raptors and Raptors fan absolutely. They did their job the best they could and have nothing to be embarrassed about.

I am more talking about as a fan of sports in general. Titles decided by injuries always leave a "What could have been…" feeling with me.

Congrats to Pabs and everyone repping the Raps. Tremendous season and championship... From the trade to the title, it’s an incredible success story. Who knows what Kawhi will do next and at the moment, who cares. Celebrate this very special win. But when the time comes for his decision, this now 2x Finals MVP will make waves and help determine the balance of power in the league going forward.

Klay’s ACL injury is a gut punch to the Warriors and their fans. It’s very unfortunate and could be the end of the Warriors dynasty depending on how things shake out. But if their core 3 (Steph Klay Draymond) stay together then it could set up for a nice comeback story in the coming years. They’re still young. And of course other stars could be easily lured to play with Steph. They really have to be hoping KD opts out and doesn’t take up $30 million on their books next season.

Congrats to the Raptors, and to Jeremy Lin, for becoming the first Asian-American player to win an NBA championship!

Kawhi deserved this MVP. A friend asked me this morning if I thought Kawhi is now better than Steph Curry. I would have laughed at this before this past season, but K awhi is building a solid argument, especially on how great a defensive player he is. Steph is an all-time great scorer, and a champion who led his team to 5 straight finals. But he needs other superstars to surround him.

If Klay and KD are both out for the full year, I don't see Golden State making a sixth straight finals appearance

Congrats to the Raptors fans! It's a great feeling watching your team win their first title.

As a Sixers fan, I want Leonard to stay with the Raptors. I would love to see a rematch in the playoffs next year.

Klay and KD are both free agents. KD has the 1-year opt-in if he chooses to take it. Draymond is signed for 1 more year before becoming a free agent and likely receiving a significant pay increase (it's possible a team would offer him a max deal, or close to it).

It will be a very interesting and challenging offseason for the Warriors.

From what I've been reading, the teams with big offseasons coming up are

    Golden State
    Lakers
    Clippers
    Raptors
    Sixers
    Celtics
    Pelicans
    Nets
    Knicks
    Bucks
Rockets (doubt anything changes for them this year)

Reminder to everyone here if I complain at all about the Raptors in the next two seasons call me out on it.

In other thoughts of the offseason. If Kawhi leaves I’m pretty sure we blow it up and rebuild around Pascal. Might be some lean years but all worth it for this past season. Everything fell perfectly for us this year and for the next two years we could be the worst team in the league and I’d be fine.

Didn't enjoy that finals much at all honestly.

Shame following an otherwise exciting and drama-filled playoffs.

From a neutrals standpoint understandable because of the injuries. But 3 of the 6 games went down to the last minute.

Looney playing through his broken collarbone. Klay only missing one game with his injury and coming back strong the next game and then him coming out to take those free throws on a torn ACL. Iggy hitting that clutch 3 in game 2. Raptors taking 3 in the Oracle.

Those first two sentences are inseparable because of the injuries..

The Raps should be partying and enjoying themselves because they know how hard they worked and ultimately they could only compete against the guys that lined up in front of them. They were in control of the former and they absolutely did their jobs, and they had no control of the latter nor should they personally sweat it.

Just as a sports fan it's, imo, a bummer when an otherwise talent-laden and firing on all cylinders competition is more or less marred by outcome-altering events, like injuries to big-time players.

If I were a Raps fan though I'd be singing in the streets and not giving a rip what anyone else thinks, and more power to those who are.

I just wonder how this series would've went if Klay played game 3 and didn't have to come out in game 6.

The injuries made this series more compelling. It was very memorable and entertaining both on and off the court.

A healthy Warriors team winning handily in 4, 5 or even 6 games would have been so expected and forgettable. This one I won't forget.

I thought for sure Steph would make the go-ahead shot. They executed the play to perfection to get him a clean look. That's gotta be one that will haunt him (although he doesn't seem like the kind of guy to stew over it).

The quality of basketball was so high. That’s actually my main argument against the injury complaint. It wasn’t that because of the injuries it felt like a bunch of scrubs out there. Both teams played at a championship level.

it's like saying you knock the Pats/Eagles super bowl down a few pegs because Wentz the would-be MVP was hurt and couldn't play.

...but the game was awesome anyway.

Do you guys all think a team is made up of 5 players? Raptors beat the Warriors no matter how you look at it. Injuries happen to every team and if you don't have the depth to deal with it then you don't deserve to win. Anyone who tries to take anything away from the Raptors glory here needs to realize it takes a whole team to win a championship. Warriors have an all-star starting 5 for sure, but it's a long season followed by a grueling playoffs. If you rely on these 5 every night then you are bound to wear them down and injuries happen.

You still have Curry on the court which is more than most teams start with. It's a bit silly when you can predict who is going to go to the finals before the first tip off of the season every year. Teams shouldn't have to have 5 superstars to do well. Drop the salary cap, create some parity in the league, and then talk about an exciting final.

i look at it less like a raptors team defeated an injury-plagued warriors for an 'easier' or 'less satisfying' championship and more like a grueling five year stretch caught up to the warriors and a fresher team won out. resting kawhi in the regular season and load management directly effected their trip to and play in the finals, which plays as a nice contrast to an ailing warriors team.

Warriors could do so far into Luxury tax and pay for two max players that they know will play zero minutes for them next season. NBA cap rules are crazy.

    It is and it isn't.

I'd have rather seen the eagles at full strength for the sake of that tip of the spear kind of competition finale. But it also didn't halt the eagles chances to win.

Not having KD while having a limited amount of Klay clearly affected the warriors chances.

Damn. That's a lot to give up for Anthony Davis.

3 1st round picks, Lonzo, Ingram, and Hart.

I don't think Lebron and 50 or so games from AD is playoff worthy in the Western Conference so probably 9th or 10th.

The Lakers gave up a TON. I can't hate it. They paid the iron price and got their man. Per source:

    No. 4 pick in 2019
Top-8 protected in 2021, becomes unprotected in ‘22
    Unprotected swap in ‘23
    Unprotected first in ‘24
    Unprotected swap in ‘25

    Plus the players. Holy smokes.

    Jesus. That's even worse.

If they don't win at least one title with the core of Lebron, AD, and Kuzma, this has the potential to be one of the worst trades ever.

At the same time, picks wise they may only have given up the number 4 pick this year as a pick of definite value.

    Bold trade, I like it.

If Kemba goes to the Lakers as the latest rumors are saying the Lakers are gunning for, then I'm scared.

Looking at it like that...giving up #4 in a 3 player draft for a top 10-ish talent is a steal. However, Lakers fans need to ask Nets fans what it's like to mortgage your future for a shot now.

Slightly different between trading for a 25 year old vs trading for 2 players over 35

Right, Garnett and Pierce may have been considered top-40 players at the time of the acquisition, on the downside of that list as opposed to a top 10 player who hasn't yet hit his prime. I still think this is more of a four player draft throwing Garland in the mix.

Trade analysis aside, and I know there's the issue of when they push the trade through which affects how much cap space the Lakers will have, but if they can add a Kyrie or Kawhi to make a big 3, then that would be a damn powerful big 3 and they would be instant title favorites.

I like Kemba and CP3. As the team stands today there isnt enough depth to play a legal game, let alone win a championship. its completely insane to me that Vegas has the Lakers ahead of teams like the Bucks and Raps. Total nonsense. A lot left to happen but overall I am fine to trade all our losers for AD. Can't really get much worse than how the Lakers organization has handled themselves over the last few years.

lol Lakers got hosed. What a ridiculous deal, desperation. Pelicans with an absolute gargantuan haul of picks and gives up Lonzo AND Ingram? Pelicans will be beastly in a few years, with Zion and Co.

Lakers are going to be in no man's land once Lebron leaves. How many years does he have left to play at a high level? 2? 3? So once those pick swaps kick in, the Pelicans are probably going to have some damn good first rounders in 2023, 2024, and 2025 while still having a core in their prime with Zion, Lonzo, Ingram, and whoever else they add.

They basically better win a championship within the next 2-3 years.

If AD signs for an extension as expected plus if they sign anyone else this offseason to a long contract they won’t be trash in 4 years.

True. I guess it all hinges if they are able to get that 3rd player. But their depth is still lacking.

Yeah I think they might struggle with that getting an elite 3rd player because of the cap issue with the trade going through at the time it does.

it's impossible to predict. I believe lebron is such an otherworldly talent that he will be still be very effective in 4 years, but with all his mileage there is absolutely a chance that he will fall off by the time he's 39 and become an injury plagued salary suck. he seems like super man but those 240 playoff games will add up after 20 years on the grind.

Let's not forget how injury-prone AD is. And they just traded away their depth, which means the Laker BIG 3 (whoever the 3rd will end up being, doesn't matter) will have to eat up all those minutes, which means more injuries. This trade is absolutely horrible for the Lakers and a great boon for the Pelicans. Hopefully the Pelicans can use this boon (and the #4 draft pick) to sway the Knicks to get up the 2nd overall pick so they can reunite Zion and RJ Barrett. That'd be something.

This is what I was thinking. LeBron won't play 80 games and neither will AD.

The only negative for the Pelicans is they now have to deal with Lonzo's dad

His dad seems to have cooled off though and he didn't seem happy with him being in LA with Lebron.

Pablo did you go to the parade today? OMG the crowds are enormous, can't even imaging the traffic gridlock over there. Pretty sure there won't be a lot of productivity in the TO area today lol. Although it looks like it'd be cool to be there, I really wouldn't want to be in a giant crowd like that. Seems hellish

Jamstar why are you so "into" Ingram and Lonzo? Feels excessive. This was a basic stud-for-depth trade and the upside for LA is high. The picks could be decent but likely will be low impact once the team improves.

Seems weird to disagree with almost every basketball expert. If you really buy into all of this hype, then you should be shaming the Pelicans for not doing this 6 months ago when Kuzma was included in the deal...

It is crazy out there, but I had to work unfortunately. Having said that it's a good thing I wasn't. Apparently there's been a shooting and a couple people were stabbed. Good ol Toronto.

AD will be the age Steph Curry is today in 2024. Anthony Davis is 26. He can and likely will be a franchise cornerstone for a decade. For 3 picks in a league where none of them will matter much.

I agree with you that it's a good deal for the Lakers. And it's an even better deal for the Pelicans who got a tremendous haul for a guy on an expiring contract. A win-win.

You are likely right about the future picks. The LA Lakers are theoretically an attractive free agent destination so they should be able to replenish the team that way over the years which they'll have to do since now they have drained their well of draft picks.

Then again, 6 years ago the idea of the Lakers missing the playoffs for 6 straight years was unthinkable. It had never happened in their history until now (I think they had never even gone 3 straight years before that). So this proves that the Lakers can, indeed, suck. Heck they are the first team to miss the playoff with Lebron... ever? Or since his rookie year?

Recent history has erased the concept that the Lakers will always be good. Injuries happen. Lebron certainly doesn't mesh with everyone. Time will tell on this trade. We'll know in 5-6 years who "won"

Agree on all fronts. I have very conservative expectations tbh.

Ya, I don't see how this is so terrible for the Lakers as originally interpreted.

They have to strike within LeBron's window, check. They're not done in FA, looking hopefully at Kemba. They acquired a stud entering his prime to not only count on now but to transition to when LeBron leaves. And the haul they gave up is staggered and 'protected' as to not necessarily cripple them for years to come. And it's not exactly like this is a league where you have to build through the draft, particularly when you're already setting your pieces up to thrive as a FA destination for now and the future.

RJ & Iggy sounds like performing street artists I might bump into on my visit to New York very soon.

    Happy with the draft though.

Durant opted out of his option with the Warriors, as expected. I do believe he will get a max contract. We had discussed that in here before, with some saying the ACL rupture would cost him in free agency.

But my question is: would you want your team to give him a max deal? He sits out 1 year, then he comes back for year 2 at age 32 and we don't know if he'll be the same. I would pass on him TBH, but if you're a desperate team like the Knicks or Nets I can see why they would do it. Certainly from a personal perspective I hope he gets a max deal since I'm a fan of his and he got hurt trying to come back and play. He hasn't made THAT much money in his career so far, by comparison to what other stars have made (he made 30 million this year, and made in the 20s the 3 years before that... by comparison Steph made 40, 37, 34 in the past 3 years). He deserves his big pay day.

Also medical science is always advancing. I don't know the history of other players with this injury exactly but I wouldn't bet against him being an 1st or 2nd team all-NBA player again in his mid 30s.

I wouldn't want my team to give KD a max deal. But if I were him, I would've taken the max deal from the Warriors, getting an extra year. Based on his build and age, I don't see him getting back to that super-elite level again and sustaining it for that length.

I'm with you. If the Warriors are offering him the 5 year max, and it's reported that they are, I would stay put. Before the injury he might have wanted to leave and go wherever he wants and be "the man" on a team that's built around him. Now though, there's probably less teams interested in maxing him, less players excited to alter their own free agency plans for the chance to form a "super team" with him, and the greater financial risk that this might be his last meaningful contract due to the injury. Golden State is a place where is already appreciated, they have a good group of star players around him, and they're moving to a brand new stadium in San Fran which is cool too.

Having said all that, he is financially sound for life even if he chooses a max from another team so if he just wants to move on and got o NY (or wherever), that's perfectly reasonable too.
