    The NBA is back.

So what's going to happen with James Harden? I don't want the Celtics to deal Jaylen Brown and Marcus Smart for him, nor do I think they will do that. Not sure where he'll land.

I don't love the idea of acquiring Simmons, and I like him alright just not crazy about it.

But he'd be icing on the cake to jettisoning Harden at this point.

Doesn't seem like good teams want him. Houston did everything for him and this is the thanks they get? Plus he wants the ball the entire game but he is choke artist when it matters most.

James Harden is overrated. Just like Westbrook. Two ball hogs who stat chase.

That Tatum shot last night was nuts. Kudos to the Celtics. Hell of a game.
Giannis needs to work on his free throws.

    He didn’t have to.

    He called game.

Even if the refs tried to send it to OT on a bullshit call.

Awesome game winner there from Tatum, also the Celtics lowering their banners looked fucking DOPE. I hope they keep it like this until fans are back.

The Rockets are pursuing a trade package from the 76ers that would be headlined by Ben Simmons and Tyrese Maxey, league sources say. Houston is increasingly determined to complete a James Harden trade as soon as today and has chased the promising Maxey in addition to Simmons. Philly is known to covet Houston's PJ Tucker in addition to Harden while the Nets have also remained in pursuit.

Oladipo and Wall seems like an interesting backcourt. I don't think it amounts to much but it's an interesting backcourt to see work together.

People sleeping on the Cavs portion of this... Jarrett Allen locks down the paint for them, 22 years old, and adds to their young core of Garland, Okoro and Sexton. Not too mention they gave up the least, and have some nice role players (Drummond, Osman, Nance) around them! Cavs looking good.

Alex Rodriguez and his business partner are in the process of purchasing the Timberwolves. Start with a minority share, and transition to full owners in two years. As a Minnesotan, it has been tough to get into basketball because this team has been so bad for so long. Glen Taylor is a big reason why this team has stunk for so long. The Lynx are also a part of the deal, and are far more exciting to watch.

Let the rumors of them moving to Seattle begin.

A Rod cares about money a lot. I would imagine this is a team that will either relocate and try to make a splash with a big marketing and merch strategy built around stars...

Or more likely they stay where they are and operate cheaply.

As the playoffs are underway, we're seeing a rash of fan behavior that is just plain horrible.

A waterbottle being tossed at Kyrie, popcorn being dumped, spitting etc. needs to be more than just a slap on the wrist.

55 in 2OT is nice but I’ll take 50 in regulation.

Youngest ever with 50 in the playoffs:

    1. Rick Barry (23 years, 21 days)
    2. Michael Jordan (23 years, 62 days)
    3. Jayson Tatum (23 years, 86 days)

    That’s good company.

(Yes I know this is late and the C’s just got disposed of, but still)

Lebron leaving his team on the bench with almost 6 minutes to go in the game (yes I’m aware that they were getting killed).

Danny Ainge is gonna step down from the Celtics. Unexpected, but a lot of Celtics fans will enjoy that, right or wrong.

I have to believe some of this is tied into his recent comments on race and Boston that did not go over well.

And Brad Stevens is stepping out of the coaching role and into the GM role. I'm fine with this move but I'll miss Danny's drafting ability. His legacy post-2008-title will be that he traded Pierce/Garnett for a stockpile and turned it into Tatum and Brown, neither of which were easy picks. Trading down from 1 to 3 for Tatum is an especially incredible move which quite possibly yielded us a HOFer. But we likely won't be picking at the top of the draft for a while, and his recent trades/FA signings haven't worked out so well, so farewell to Ainge and I hope Stevens will succeed as GM and hire a good replacement coach.

Ainge should be very in-demand by other teams, particularly ones trying to rebuild, IMO. I expect if he wants a new job right away he'll find one.

embiid with a meniscus tear in his right knee, missing game five, considered day to day and is gonna be treated with physical therapy instead of surgery. does anybody else's mental health revolve around the physical health of a 7 foot cameroonian man or is that just me?

and finally he was healthy going into the playoffs. horrible. now it's a hope and see approach every single day for the next month, hopefully.

he could look good in game 1 in the next round but then be out game 2 because of swelling. it sucks.

    just win tonight please.

Yea he mentioned his heart attack when discussing his choice to resign. I agree with you and expect him to take a year off. But even though I've seen the word "Retire" used in most of the headlines, at age 62 I'd be surprised if he's done for good.

He might just end up taking a Jerry West type President of Basketball Operations where he hires a full-time GM. 'They' say he wants his kid to get a GM job.

awesome game to wrap up the series tonight. it's always stressful losing embiid for any amount of time, cause ya never know what team youre gonna get without him in the line-up. tonight was very fun to see. everybody playing hard until it was put away. our defense is gonna be key, if embiid is missing a good stretch, to help alleviate any games with down shooting. in that respect, tonight was definitely encouraging.

Luka Dončić just scored or assisted on 31 of Dallas' 37 total field goals made in a 105-100 win.

Feels like this Nets v Bucks series is gonna be a de facto NBA Finals with the Embiid injury and Anthony Davis injury with the Lakers looking finished. Clippers are one game away from elimination also.

No disrespect to the Jazz or Suns, but I still feel like I'm not ready to accept them as true championship contenders yet.

I was actually thinking I wouldn't be shocked to see Luka will an undermanned team to the Finals ala LeBron during that 07 Cavs run.

They'd have to get extremely hot and fortunate for that. They are way, way too reliant on the 3-ball and can't consistently power through if that isn't dropping.

It does feel like they are getting that luck a little bit.

Murray hurt on Denver; Davis hurt on the Lakers; Paul hurt on the Suns.

The Mavs are not any kind of favorites but I also would not be shocked if Luka won a series or two.

Once Luka picked up a knock, they had no chance. They lost the momentum they had after Game 1 and 2.

They've maybe got 1-2 players on their current roster that you'd see as viable contributors on a championship team. They've absolutely bungled their roster building process over the last two seasons.

Dorian Finney-Smith definitely fits as a 3-and-D guy. Tim Hardaway Jr. is extremely streaky but he can contribute. He's ideal as a 6th man but he essentially has to be the No. 2 on this roster...which further illustrates the problem.

Luka is 22 but this is the end of year 3. The front office no longer gets the benefit of the doubt, and they've gotta push things to a higher level now.

I was kinda joking. Every team has at least a handful of good players.

Porziņģis is what is dooming the Mavs obviously. It was a decent enough risk to take when they made the trade but it is clear he is never going to be everyone thought he might be. 2 more years for 32m, then 34m and then a player option for another 36m.

He is undoubtedly a rising star. A very talented guy. If he works just as hard, he will rise to the top. The main thing is not to get sick with star fever and not take training lightly.

Kevin Durant is so good. I find myself rooting for the Nets this year just for him, even though I’m not a big Harden or Kyrie fan.

Other than joining the Warriors to create a super team, what else has done this? I'm a fan of his social media presence and general public persona.

It is tough for me to get into the NBA because my home team (Timberwolves) have been awful for most of their existence.

If I were to choose a new team, who would you reccomend? I like Damian Lillard a lot, but are the Trail Blazers a lost cause? Who else is a good team to become a fan of now before they blow up and become contenders?

Honestly, my favorite basketball team is the Minnesota Lynx.

Yes, or at least I have no issues with it. Very relatable and understandable. He still openly uses burner accounts and I respect it. He's one of the better athlete twitter follows (the best would probably be Trevor Bauer).

that whole DM exchange with michael rapaport made him look like an immature teenager. his non-apology of 'im sorry people saw what i said, that's not what i want people to see and hear from me' was weak bullshit. he just seems like a dickhead, which fits well with kyrie and harden.

I can't even imagine how petty Jordan would have been with social media insults. Dude used his Hall of Fame speech to call out the dude who made his high school team over him.

Boston Celtics. They're good enough to have hope that they'll at least make it to the playoffs more often than not, colors are cool, etc.

I do wonder if it's mandatory to be a fan of your hometown team. We don't have any pro teams here but I wonder if when the Timberwolves were formed, how many people ditched their old team for the new hometown team?

I'll be honest, depending on the sport, I might ditch one of mine if a pro Iowa team is formed. Sadly we ain't shit, they still think people want a pro hockey team...No, we want the real shit.

Considering he's a master trash talker I imagine his replies to trolls and the like would have been EPIC.

He didn't use his HOF speech to call out the dude, it was just a tiny part of it. Oh well. It's Michael fucking Jordan. I hated the guy in the 90's because he would destroy the Celtics almost single handedly but I can't deny he has earned his place to pretty much do what the fuck he wants beyond rape and murder. I mean, the guy has been rockin a Hitler 'stache for over 20 years and not a damn thing has been made of it.

us, for fucking sure. they had to deal with durant having a monster game. their starters actually put points up, there was some kind of fight. two of our max contracts combined for 12 points. our supposed second best player shot 4 TIMES ALL GAME and went 4-14 from the line. doc ran an all-bench lineup for 10 straight minutes in the third, who were cold as fuck. we let fucking lou williams get hot in the fourth and scorch our ass.

i think i'm done with ben simmons. i fucking love watching him play defense. i've never jumped on the hate trains that pop up towards him, but i can't fucking take it anymore. he's the size of a fucking linebacker and refuses to be aggressive on offense unless he's got open lanes. every post game interview with him he talks about how he needs to be more aggressive, and it never fucking comes. he'll flash it, but consistently will not make it his game. post game presser after game 4, says he has to be more aggressive to help take pressure off joel, and he takes 4 fucking shots in the game. i just can't wrap my head around it anymore. we are wasting embiid's prime years on this experiment and i don't think it's gonna ever work.

Per Elias, the 76ers are the only team to blow an 18-point lead in back-to-back playoff games in the last 25 seasons. They had a win probability of 95.5% at one point in Game 4, and it reached 99.7% late in the 3rd quarter of Game 5.

    Good job, good effort.

The crazy thing is I'm not sold on any remaining team as an overwhelming favourite so I can definitely see the Sixers winning it all this season. I know it's hard to after the last two games, but they didn't build those giant leads off nothing.

Lou Williams and Trae Young were playing the whole 4th quarter and the Sixers still couldn't muster offense. Two of the worst defenders on the court and Sixers can't score 20 points. Harris and Simmons could not score in the 4th quarter in either game. How is that possible? Like you can't even do a switch and get one of those guards in the post? The Sixers had one of the best home records over the last 4 years and blew a 26 point lead to an inferior team. That's disgusting.

3 minutes in. literally launching himself into thybulle to get the foul. it fucking works, but it's such a bitch move. can't wait to see how that unnatural shooting motion rule change effects the little gremlin next season.

Celtics trade: Kemba Walker &the No. 16 overall pick in the 2021 draft
OKC trades: Al Horford, Moses Brown and a 2023 second-round pick

Too bad Kemba didn't work out. This is mainly a salary dump of Kemba. He's only 31 but his knee injuries are troubling.

The Thunder now have 18 first-round picks over the next seven drafts (seems like a lot).

The Thunder have too many picks. They are going to end up cutting a first round draft pick one year. This is not football. There are only 15 spots on the roster.

they aren't going to use all their first round picks. some of those will be packaged to either move up in the draft OR trade for established players.

Ask the Celtics how that works. The market for those picks is not as big as teams hope. Turns out the draft picks between 15-30 are not that useful.

They will be able to flip future ones but once they start coming due, they are going to be stuck with people like Romeo Langford and Grant Williams. They have the 16th and 18th pick next month plus their own top 5 pick.

or you could draft someone like Michael Porter Jr who was taken at 14 if you package those picks and move up. My point is, they won't be making all those draft picks.

They won't make all the draft picks but they will end up making more of them than they want. Every draft year we will hear about them packaging assets to move up and they never will.

It's a garbage play that they should've whistled as an offensive foul. It's fuckin embarrassing.

7 minutes left in the 4th and a starter finally getting to the foul line. we average 31 FT a game.

dan patrick had a great segment after game 5 on simmons about how you can't be a superstar and a liability, and simmons admitting his troubles being mental immediately makes him a liability.

I am admittedly a casual NBA fan these days but I didn't realize hack-a-Simmons was a thing

Atlanta has gone cold. Give the Sixers credit for their defense. But also the entire Hawks offense seems to be Trae Young either isolating or pick and rolling and/or lobbing it to a big.

Ugly game here. This is not entertaining basketball (at least not in the 4th qtr).

Simmons can't be on the floor at the end of the game. That's over.

Sixers are soft as hell and they need to trade one of their two top guys to try and regroup on the fly. Running it back with both Simmons and Embiid isn't going to cut it.

lol at the idea of trading embiid. simmons might have jack all of trade value right now, but embiid is the cornerstone of the team.

doc asked post game if he thinks ben can be a point guard for a championship team, and he says he doesnt know the answer to that question right now. that's about as close to a 'no' you could expect to get from a head coach.

If you get jack squat in terms of offers for Simmons but you get big ones for Embiid, then you're put in a tough spot. That scenario is unlikely but they're likely having to take some kind of an albatross for a gifted but limited and potentially broken player.

That's pretty much a no by him. Maybe he turns into a decent facsimile of Draymond Green but he even has a ways to go to get to there on the offensive end of the floor

Joel Embiid: "I'll be honest. I thought the turning point was when we — I don't know how to say it — is when we had an open shot and we made one free throw..."

    Alrighty then...

no matter what you might get back for embiid, you are stuck with all the glaring flaws of simmons if he is still on the roster. you cant build around him like antetokounmpo cause ben is too soft, or doesnt give enough of a shit, to be any kind of aggressive, consistently, on offense. so you gonna end up shipping him out eventually, too. you at least got a shot with embiid if you can get a second offensive option that can be counted on.

When the head coach and the team's best player are saying the exact thing that not just the team's fans, but all of the rest of the world are saying, it'd be a surprise to me if they don't make every effort to move on from Simmons.

But he's making #1 overall pick money for the next 4 years. After this playoff performance, the Sixers would be lucky to get any quality player in return, yet they'd have to get someone who's making a lot now for cap purposes.

In other words, why would any rival GM want Simmons right now? It'd mean four years of hampering their own team.

Teams always believe (or they're forced into that mindset) they can fix what is wrong with the player in question.
