Look Miami may win but nothing about Lebron(or any elite pro athelete) that would make him a laughing stock. He may not be the best anymore but the guy works his ass off and it seems like when he wants to turn it on, no one is stopping him.

Is Giannis a laughing stock? Or Luka?

How about the LOADED Celtics who just got punked?

    GTFO here with that haterade.

I never said I'm rooting against Lebron btw. I mean I think I'll have to for the reason of not wanting the Lakers to tie the Celtics for most championships but otherwise I would be rooting for him. The Heat would be a forgettable title team.

The Nuggets and Heat both leveled up in my fan eyes significantly. If the Heat can beat the Lakers in a series, it will be as "real" as any other NBA Title and I will give them full credit.

I think everything about this year is memorable!

    Water isn't wet!

I just think it would be funny for him to lose to the team he promised several titles for, that's all. I like Anthony Davis a lot.

it's real. and it will be a real disappointment if the Lakers don't win.

and yea I'm probably slighting the Heat, they are a good team and hey the Raptors beat the Warriors last year so it's not like the big dogs don't fall. I haven't seen much Laker basketball, or really any basketball outside of the Celtics this year, so you can file my take under casual. but the Lakers are heavy favorites so yea, Lebron's legacy would take a hit if they lose. 3-7 wouldn't be good. 4-6 is way better.

go Heat. not because of Lebron hate but because of Laker hate.

Not salty, but he's the first player to win Finals MVP with 3 teams.

    A) That's a testament to how good he is, that where he goes championships happen.
    B) It's an interesting career path and is indicative of the league trend where superstars change teams and congregate more often. In today's NBA, the next MJ's, or Magic's, Kobe's, Larry Bird's, AI's.... they are less and less likely to be associated with one team. Lebron will probably get his jersey retired in 3 cities and people will not associate him with any 1 team. He is his own entity.

Hard to argue he doesn't have the most compelling story of any player ever.

LeBron is one of the best in the game, but it still goes MJ-Kobe-LeBron.

Nice to see Dwight Howard win a ‘ship, he had an eight year run where he was as dominant as almost anybody in the game. Is he a first ballot HOFer? I say no but it’s close, he definitely gets in though.

I heard a great take on LBJ today from I think Broussard. Basically that Lebron gets an edge because he never played for an elite coach.

Never played for an “elite” coach because LeBron has made a career out of shanking good coaches.

Spoelstra is pretty elite, Lue had a great run, Brown was onto something before “The South Beach Exit”.

I still place MJ comfortably ahead of Lebron but I'm not going to knock anyone who considers Lebron the goat. he's a beast on the court and is on his way to becoming the NBA's all time leading scorer (3 more seasons should easily get him there). the longevity he's currently displaying, still being an MVP caliber player at age 35 with 1200 games under his belt, is remarkable. not that other all time greats haven't also been great at 35 but he is showing little signs of slowing, and those career milestones will start to compile and be new feathers in his cap.

I've got MJ over LeBron, but I don't begrudge anyone who makes a hard argument the other way.

10 Finals appearances in the modern NBA is unbelievable. So many coaches, so many Robins, so many role players all off and on the LeBron train with only one unwavering constant.

Could MJ have done what LeBron did on each of those Cavs, Heat, and Lakers teams? Maybe, idk.
Could LeBron have held down a 6-0 Finals record on those Bulls teams? Maybe, idk.

They're kinda polar opposites in several ways but both achieving unmatched greatness in their respective eras.

If they played a take all series against one another on reasonably even teams who would show out more to take it? Yikes, it's close. But the competitive killer is just what happens to put it over the top for Mike for me.

On 3 of those Kobe wasn’t the clear cut best player on his team.

Kobe might not have been the best player on those teams, but he definitely was the engine that drove that bus. Shaq was great, imagine how much better he would have been if he put effort into his free throws and conditioning program...

Kobe vs Lebron.... maybe this title was the one that puts Lebron over Kobe for me, but I'm not sure yet. Surely Lebron is a better all around player, while Kobe was the better scorer. idk. that's close. probably by the end of his career I will admit to putting Lebron ahead of Kobe but I'm not there yet.

To me, it's only fair to rank all-time greats after they retire. When Kobe retired, I had him fourth behind MJ, Wilt, and Bill Russell. MJ is a solid #1.

Lebron is making a good argument for becoming #2.

I'm a Kobe fan. But using the rings argument is tired.

If you're going to count LeBron's final losses against him. Then Tim Duncan must be above Kobe.

I agree, let's get some lists.

Everyone can pm me their best of all time list starting asap, and we'll give it a little time before a deadline is set.

The more the merry for both participants and listed candidates. A top 20 is preferable to get a more substantive final list, but I won't quibble over a top 10 or so.

I don't think they should be the end all be all, but I think rings should be considered somewhat

Rings are obviously important. They're the goal year after year.

But each one has it's own story and the context for everyone's is just as important.

Who did you play with.. who did you play against.. what was your role.. what was the makeup of the league at the time (number of teams, free agency, etc)..

    Otherwise 11-1 > everyone else.

Kobe isn't even the best Laker. That is Magic. Kobe barely makes the Top 10 for all-time players (6th at the absolute peak).

MJ, LBJ, KAJ, Magic and Russell are Tier 1.
Wilt, Bird, Duncan, Kobe, West are Tier 2.

You need to go back and rewatch those games. Shaq was the heart and soul of those teams. He average like 35-20 for 3 straight NBA Finals. Derek Fisher was as important as Kobe was

I always enjoy a good pointless, debate with no real answer: Anyone up for a Top 20 countdown of all-time NBA players? Maybe last 20 years, post-MJ, as the time frame too since that is most of our demo. Current players could be fun too.

Daryl Morey out as Rockets GM.

And with that I can't recall a time where a city lost it's MLB, NFL, and NBA HC/GM combos all in the same calendar year.

    Anyone?

I’m honestly intrigued what Houston will get. They gave up a pretty hefty package to get him if I remember correctly. @Percussion can probably help with that.
I couldn’t see the Knicks giving up RJ and Robinson for him, but they are the Knicks so never say never.

I'm fairly sure they'd be happy just to take expiring contacts in exchange for him to turn the page. Maybe a protected type of pick to top it off since he's still producing. The team is saying they want to continue building around Harden and Russ but suspicions all around that they're really ready to just start clean, and to do so under the tax.

I'm not really bothered either as I don't think a championship is gonna happen around the two of them versus the kind of competition they're looking at next year.

Just the thought of the potential implosion of a franchise if the Bucks felt this was their moment to save Giannis from leaving. Yikers.

I’m 99.9% certain they wouldn’t trade for Russ. He really doesn’t fit in that offense.

Thus being the next step towards an implosion. Not a good idea but could be misguided optimism towards thinking that solves their problems.

Chris Paul traded to the Suns for Rubio/Oubre and other picks/players.

    So it begins.

Harden turning down $50m suggests yes. Houston is tearing it down.

Kudos to Milwaukee for going for it with Jrue but that's a hell of an overpay, but I guess that's what they felt like they had to do.

Not sure how it’s an overpay. If they keep winning those picks are late 20s, or the last pick. If this move keeps Giannis in Milwaukee I can guarantee you not a single Bucks fan will give one shit about late first round picks.
Bledsoe is garbage, Hill is ok, but on the downside of his career.
It’s a win now move, which is exactly what they need to do.

Jrue is solid but he's not the most reliable when it comes to durability. You're also going to sacrifice a lot of depth and flexibility going forward in terms of building with youth. Yes, if it leads to Giannis staying, then it's a move you're going to do. The rub comes though in the form of this blowing up in their face and he leaves within 2-3 years after signing the deal.

They also dealt not from a position of power and more from desperation. That's generally not good when it comes to the long-term outlook. Your pathways to success shrink. Don't get me wrong, I get the idea...but it's pretty risky. This also tells me that Giannis wasn't liking the hand the Bucks were being dealt, so again...they felt pressure.

Well of course they feel pressured. If they don’t win a title it’s a very real possibility that one of the 3 best players in the world leaves for nothing.
Trying to get a chip and secure a long term commitment from him was the sole reason they made this move.

Obviously I don't have a better answer because I don't know what else is available but a lot of my suspicions come in the form of who they got. I like Holiday but I kind of think they need to pull another rabbit out of their hat because I don't think that's going to be enough.

Bogdanovic feels like a step in the right direction. Their depth is definitely going to be challenged, though.

Words from a Houston exec in regards to guys wanting out. Rare stance by an organization to take but someone was eventually going to say it.

@Morrison must be jumping in the streets.

Yes it took a first and a second, but you got OUT of the Horford contract. Danny Green is also a back to back winner (although who knows when he'll finally collect his rings)

The season was generally tense. Not only a competitive moment, but also a struggle for health. COVID has changed a lot, made a lot more fundamental and important.

Westbrook traded to Washington for John Wall and a first-round pick.
