I understand the logic you are presenting, but he was considered a professional athlete in 2016-2017, which was his first year with the team. The NFL won't say a player who was on IR during his first season, is a rookie in year two. They will say he was injured his rookie year, but is now seeing his first professional action. Obviously the NBA has established what a rookie means to them, but the logic seems backwards to me.
I'm fine with it. When you pull up Ben Simmons' stat sheet, either now or 20 years from now, it will start with the 2017-2018 season. There is no data from 2016-2017. So this is his rookie season. I can see both sides and it makes sense either way and is pretty meaningless either way.

Right. It's not a perfect parallel... the Caps are certainly bigger chokers.
The Clippers have finished in the top 5 in the West for the last 6 years (but never better than 3rd) and never made the Western Finals. For the Caps it's more like 10 years and yea they were at times the best team in the East... never made the Eastern finals which is remarkable.

They seem to have significantly improved their team, or at least attempted to, in trying to contend for a title this season perhaps before LeBron leaves again. I think these moves could very well win them the East but I have a hard time imagining them coming together with all their new parts so quickly to actually contend with Golden State or whoever comes out of the West. Still, they had to give it a shot and they sure went for it.
I really like all these trades for the team. They obviously saw what they had just wasn't working, so while keeping the centerpiece, may as well ship out the parts that don't seem to be working and get something back. This really puts to rest the whole silliness about the IT/Celtics/Pierce retirement ceremony stuff.
Great move by Laker management, I'm surprised some folks are actually hated on this. Getting Isaiah when his stock was at his lowest was a great call. Gutted about Clarkson & Nance but to get back to old winning ways these things have to happen.
The real reason for picking up IT is that he's coming off the books so they can sign up to 2 big free agents in the next two years.

The All star pre game was so cringe worthy. Good game though. I watched the first quarter and then turned it back on half way into the 3rd. there is only so much of the back and forth slam dunk and 3 pointers i could take.

I know we had a discussion about this on the last page/a bit ago, but this in an interesting article that discusses whether Simmons is a rookie or not. I'm interested to see how the voting goes. If there was nobody else worthy of RoY, I'd be more than fine with Simmons winning. But, the notes about him having a year of professional coaching and being able to sign an extension next year are interesting.

But as promising as things are for the Celtics. Even if you beat the Cavs (which I think you guys have a shot to do). There's no chance against the Rockets/Warriors. For the Celtics a finals appearance isn't something to be happy about as a franchise because you do have that history of titles. For the Raptors it would be huge.

The franchise has won 3 titles, 2 as the 76ers and 1 as the Syracuse Nationals.
