I was out of my Metallica phase by the time I was 12 Old school! I remember my sister rang me up especially to tell me that 'Until it Sleeps' was on radio for the first time...my bro and I tuned and and after a minute or so we tuned out.Originally posted by Crabby
Did you go see Metallica in Newcastle or Sydney back in '98?
I look forward to the release of the new Deftones album in May, apparently at this stage it's self-titled. Metallica and Deftones touring together in the US, that would be damn cool, if only they could fuck Limp Bizkit and Linkin Park off.
Dunno about Metallica these days. If I'm gonna listen to them it'll be the 4cd Live Binge and Purge thing I 'borrowed' from my sister...it rocks. Hopefully Metallica and Deftones get heavy again on their respective new albums...I await with trepidation.
Fozzy are pretty cool, Chris Jericho actually has a pretty good voice, I say.
I can't see Metallica going heavy on their next album, although Deftones reckon there next album will be.
Are you going to go to Opeth, man?

All the stuff off the 'Burzum' album is like war, chances are you can only find the Burzum/Aske version, which is the 'Burzum' album with the 3 song EP 'Aske' on the end, which is more keyboard orientated.Originally posted by Nemesis
SBD, I heard you mention Burzum earlier. I liked one of the early songs (War, I think), but what does Varg's new stuff sound like? Just because the guy comes across as a total nutcase (albeit an intelligent one) doesn't mean I shouldn't consider buying any of his stuff in the future, I guess.
His newer stuff, however, is not like 'Burzum', it is all instrumental, keyboard and the like...well, I tell a lie, some does have guitars, but they're not really as Black Metalesque as 'Burzum'. This comes from you his personal choices, and the lack of instruments he is allowed in prison. (They moved him to a different one).
If you look on Amazon, you can probably play samples of his more recent stuff to get an idea of what it's like. I recommend:
Filosofem
Hildskjalf
If you like that sort of thing, you'll love em, if you don't you'll hate em. That's why I advise sampling some first, either via mp3 or what have you.
*edit*
Last Terrorizer mag I saw had a free CD with it, aswell as Napalm Death on the cover. On the topic of metal mags, Terrorizer looks okay, but it's probably too expensive for me. Do they ever give out sample CDs when you get a subscription?
Woo!

Kerry King on ex-Soulfly drummer Joe Nunez- "You know why he turned down the gig? (To become Slayer's new drummer). His mum wouldn't let him play in Slayer!!!!".
Funny stuff indeed.
Better than the Blink182 guy who just flat our said no.
He'd rather drum with B182 than Slayer.
And now he spins around with his revolving on-stage drum kit, impressing the topless 12 year olds who come to their shows. Tommy Lee is apparently proud.
And what is up with Jerk's "I Hate People Like That" getting Number One on Triple-J's Net 50.
Really?
Tommy Lee had a turning dum kit around the Girls, Girls, Girls tour (1988-9), but he got a Flying one for Dr. Feelgood tour (1989-92)
And then he fell off and knocked himself unconscious.
*laughts at Tommy*
I'm surprised you're laughing at your hero's misfortune, with them planning to make a film about Motley Crue's career and all. Oh well, laugh away, then.
I'm laughing at my hero?
Tommy Lee ain't my hero.
Nikki is better than Tommy.
Dave Mustaine is my hero.
Jerk getting Number One doesn't click with me.
I still don't believe you are laughing at the man you you know is your musical hero.
I don't like you anymore.
Get out of my thread please.
Stupid fucking MSN.
Outlaw, I told you, you and I were just a summer thing.
I know Dave is your hero.
Bah to you all
You all know that Hevy Devy is hero.
New Strapping Young Lad soon. Great news.
Are you going to Opeth?
mmmmm double devy release........DTB and SYL.
Still dunno about Opeth...gonna try sort something out.
Black Label Society is very tempting as well.
Don't think much of the title of the new Metallica album.
Hehe probably as it will lack anger!
Opeth is very, very tempting at that price. Still don't know who the support is.
Loving the Superjoint Ritual action ATM.
There were a whole bunch of rumours that the new SYL album will show a different side of Devin Townsend's sense of humour or personality, or something like that.
SJR is the fucking shit. That I am sure of. One fo the best surprise pickups ever. Just browsing thorough the 'S' section and 'WOAH! That is so mine!'.
I think new SYL will be lacking the technology use (i.e. samples) and the all out velocity but it will be still heavy as fuck.
I dunno about showing Devin's humour, I read that 'Rape Song' illustrates his hatred for rape and does not glorify it or parodise it in any way. I wouldnt expect Devin to do that anyway.
I think Devy was quick to deny the rumours, actually, I don't think they came from the man himself. I'm gathering that Strapping Young Lad is your favourite project of his? That would definitely be interesting, SYL not using samples, but knowing the creative ability of him he'll still produce a killer album.
Apparently, there will be two support acts for the Opeth tour, although neither have been announced.
Well 'All Hail The New Flesh' was the VERY FIRST mp3 I ever downloaded. Yeah I'd have to say SYLis my fav but I love everything else he does as well but SYL is the pinnacle as fast and heavy shit is my main love in heavy music.
2 support acts? Hopefully some foreign and unknown guys.
Maybe Blood Duster or someone like that, seeing as they're playing with The Haunted. I also hear that Alchemist may be one of the supports, and some other local band who's name I can't remember has also been mentioned.
Did you go see Devy on his last tour?
Yeah Bloodduster are cool! Metalhaeds who dress in homeboy tracky dacks!
I did see Devy his last tour. It was awesome....best gig ever. Drednaught and Psi.Kore opened who were impressive but Devy mixed everything up and it sounded awesome. I saw the Melbourne setlist and we got a stack more songs! I dont think they even got 'Far Beyond Metal'. Afterwards we waited and Gene came out.....my 3 mates and I got in there first and got ALL of our shit signed and I was relegated to holding Gene's drink. Gene then tried to organise the other guys to come out but we got told to get outside so we went round the corner and hung out in the alley for an hour. Got lots of photos taken. Fucking Byron, Jed and Jamie didnt sign anything...the fucks!
Fingers crossed he comes out here this year. Australia is one of his biggest fanbases.
For any Aussie metalheads out there who like the band Dungeon, be sure to check out their support band, Inane Eminence, one of my associates is in that band. They're going into the recording studio soon and are suppose to be doing a tour with Dungeon.
Blood Duster, my favorite pornocore band (well, the only thing I listen to that can be labelled as such). Pornstorestiffi is just awesome.
I haven't picked up Blood Duster's "Drink Fight Fuck" yet, but I hear good things. Saw them live once, they are pretty damn brutal. Hopefully they get put on the MFTB bill, provided that it goes ahead this year anyway.
Metallica are lookjking good for BDO 2004.
Damn dude! You must read Metal Hammer WAY too much....giving every band their own sub-genre of music. Next we'll be hearing you call them The 'duster!Originally posted by Nemesis

Blood Duster to have some rather amusing song titles indeed, do you have any of their albums/EP's, SBD?
I do agree, though, that the media does go overboard its categorising of all heavy music.
Kerrang! do the same thing a lot of the time.
Check out Page Hamilton's new band, Gandhi. Their website has some MP3's and stuff, well worth checking out.
Nimmers, are you planning to go and buy the new Strapping Young Lad album tomorrow? I've read a few reviews and heard a few parts of it,it sounds like it'll be a killer album. Now we just need to get Devy down here for a tour.....

A few weeks ago was actually the first time I'd seen any of their stuff in the stores, but I already made my mind up what I was going to buy beforehand. Anything you'd recommend?
From what I've heard of it, their new EP, "Drink Fight Fuck" sounds pretty cool. "Cunt" is a pretty good effort, worth getting if you can track it down.
Today? Ok it's 10 past 7 at night and I'm going to JB right now to get it. I'm a fan. I got the damn logo on my arm after all.Originally posted by Crabby

For me.......this is the definitive release of 2003. I love SYL and I love Devy. It's just what I've been looking for in my metal. It takes all the pluses of 'HAARHT' and 'City' and combines them into on truly solid release. Awesome shit.
2003 just started man.
Anthrax, Edguy, Maiden, another Opeth, Nevermore, a tonne of releases this year. Something for everyone.
Ok, my latest Cd's...
I got all three Children of Bodom albums. I love them all. Awesome stuff.
I got Cradle Of Filths "From Cradle To Enslave" and "Cruelty and The Beast". That makes 4 COF's...outta the 4 I like Cruetly the most, Midian a very close second.
I got Immortals At The Heart Of Winter, I like it but much prefer Sons Of Northern Darkness. Its all good though.
I got Gorelord - Force Fed On Human Flesh. Good stuff.
And finally, The Berzerkers self titled. This is the most unique album I have. It sounds like pure insanity.
Up next for me to get...
A few more COFs, Immortals, Danzigs and starting on Maiden next.
You should get Gorelord's newest album, Burnzy. "Zombie Suicide Part 666".
I didnt even realize they had another one. I'll definitely check that out.
While you're at it, listen to the song "Casketcrusher" by Exhumed.
I updated my album list and uploaded it.

Opeth's semi-acoustic album will definitely be something to behold, should be yet another exceptional release.
Nice album list there, Dave.
It's finally arriving! The Divine Art Of Torture - February 17th.
Here are some links to songs (on a flash page) provided by Necrophagia on their official site (Unmastered versions).
Enjoy!
Rue Morgue Disciple
Blaspheme The Body
Conjuring The Unnamable
Parasite Eve
Upon Frayed Lips Of Silence
Each takes a few minutes to load, only four of them may work.

Albums I would like to buy soon:
'One Kill Wonder' - The Haunted
'SYL' - Strapping Young Lad
'The Neon Handshake' - Hell Is For Heroes (not metal but still good)
'Hate Crew Deathroll' - Children Of Bodom
'The Beyond' - Cult Of Luna
'Reprecussions Of A Badly Planned Suicide' - Johnny Truant
'Blackleg' - Matter
'The Art Of Balance' - Shadows Fall
'With No Human Intervention' - Aborym
'Damnation And A Day' - Cradle Of Filth (24 days to go...)
Now all I need is money...
"We're in a society that believes that compassion is a weakness for so long as opposed to accepting that we're all part of a community as it is. We hold our hands out and we're being fed empty products like the Spice Girls and McDonalds and as artists and as an audience the only responsibility we have is not to ackowledge it because as soon as you say you like it or you don't like it you start buying into it. As soon as you acknowledge good then you instantly acknowledge that there is a bad to go along with it. Don't acknowledge anything. You just are. And music just is." - Devin Townsend
GameOver!
That's actually a part of the whole thing too.. most of them haven't even seen ECW before. Then there are a few who watched one tape and now bash it to hell because of a single New Jack match or some shit like that. A lot of em have only seen parts of comp tapes, and ya know, watching the "Bloodiest ECW Matches" isn't the same as experiencing ECW.
But of course, none of these things could possibly get through their stupid, stupid minds. Just take the time some day when you're bored and do ECW on the search engine. Then go ahead and take a look at some of the stupid shit these Rubes say. No argument at all, no skills, no facts, perhaps a few pages of so-called debate before they say "Well, I haven't actually seen it but.." ..blah blah blah. Load of crap. Rustic marks.
In fact, I don't think I've ever met anyone who's watched a lot of ECW and doesn't like it or most of it. (Now watch as someone here tries to claim that to make thier argument seem less empty)..
Just read that Alchemist and Chalice are confirmed to support Opeth on their upcoming tour.
I got Maidens Powerslave, Blind Guardians Nightfall In Middle Earth AND Blind Guardians Night At The Opera.
O O, and Immortals Battles in the North.
You like Nightfall?
Cos I have both those BG albums. And Maiden's Powerslave.
Good albums.
Well as I figure regulars of this thread may well already know I like to champion the works of the real metal god Devin Townsend. I suggest putting off getting any of life's essentials and buy 'SYL'Originally posted by The Man With The Plan
Albums I would like to buy soon:
'SYL' - Strapping Young Lad
Now all I need is money...
Heck why not add the following,
SYL - Heavy As A Really Heavy Thing
SYL - City
SYL - No Sleep Til Bedtime
Ocean Machine - Biomech
Devin Townsend - Infinity
Devin Townsend - Physicist
Devin Townsend - Terria
Punky Bruster - Cooked On Phonics
Devin Townsend - Ass Sordid Demos
and soon Devin Townsend Band debut which is supposedly comes with 'Eko' some electronic project he whipped up recently as well.
Why stop there? Get Steve Vai's 'Sex and Religion' just for the fact that Devin is the vocalist for that record.
Oh and I got the Century Media 10th Anniversary DVD which is absolutely perfect for me when I want to relive my SYL moments of 2001.
I just decided, after hearing samples from every track on Damnation and a Day, that I will not be spending anything on CD's till that album comes out.
Is anyone willing to sponsor me for buying CDs, cause I'm running low on funds
I'm pissed, I've been trying to hear them samples on the site but my computer is being a fagtard and not letting it work.Originally posted by SpiritualBlackDimensions

I bet its REAAAAAL good. Like cum explosion in your pants good.
Have you seen the new video for Babylon Ad by Cradle? Tis pretty good.
I've been looking for it on Kazaa, its not up yet.
I just got Her Ghost In The Fog and Scorched Earth Erotica videos though. I love Her Ghost, the scenery and shit kicks ass.
You can see 30 seconds of Babylon A.d. on the c.o.f website, if you get the samples working, just click "Damnation and a day" then "video".
Yeah, it wont go.
I'll just work on getting all thier older videos till the new one is released.
I've only heard 3 songs in full: Babalon AD, Presents For The Poison-Hearted and Serpent's Tongue. Not sure if I want to download the whole album though. I don't want to spoil myself. Plus I'll be getting it as soon as it comes out anyway.
21 days to go!
I went to the record store and (finally) picked up Zyklon and got Dying Fetus, too. Awesome albums. Zyklon is one of the most insane CDs I own now. Fucking love it.
I'm still looking to get Immortal and Mayhem from Amazon, but for the meantime I picked up Lords of Chaos and Lucifer rising instead (books). I'm not sure how accurate LoC is, since there's about 20 different versions of the Varg/Euronymous story, but I'm still looking forward to reading it.
I'm thinking of picking up Unlord, too. The guy I know at the record store recommended it, and he's had some pretty good suggestions in the past. They were out of stock, though.
Still wanting to pick up some Hammerfall and Blind Guardian, too.
God damn, I love tax returns.
Has anybody rediscovered any CDs recently, so to speak? I remember buying Dimmu Borgir's Enthrone Darkness Triumphant almost 2 years ago, and listening to few songs on there a lot, but that's about it. I went back and listened to it, and now I like just about the entire CD. I like Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia better, but this one still kicks immeasurable amounts of ass. Too bad I got PEM stolen from me. I hope whoever stole it liked it, at least.
Hell yeah. Skinlab's 'Disembody : The New Flesh'. It rocks hard. I think i got it when it came out in like 98-99 or something. I love it when you pluck out an old CD and enjoy it jus the way you did the day you bought it.Originally posted by Nemesis

Do yourself a favour and get the Century Media 10th Anniversary DVD. It totally captures SYL live and it's just like reliving the best gig of my life. Plus it's got other good bands on it like Scar Culture (formerly Skrape who were on the Extreme Steel tour). Eyehategod is on there as well, I don't know why they're held in such high regard, frankly I think they suck.
I'm the only one who cares, but who gives a shit. Hmm From Edguy's official site.
NEWS February 11th, 2003: Live Album & New Album Update!
The mastering and the mixing of the live album has now been completed and the release date is now scheduled for April or May. The tracklist for the live album is as follows:
Disc I: Intro, Fallen Angels, Tears Of A Mandrake, Babylon, Land Of The Miracle, Painting On The Wall, Wings Of A Dream, The Headless Game, The Pharaoh
Disc II: Vain Glory Opera, drum-solo, Save Us Now, How Many Miles, Inside, Avantasia, Out Of Control .
I can't wait. Great tracklisting.

Varg wasn't mr popularity at school, and developed an inferiority complex of some sort, where he believed people were always plotting to be better than him, he joined Mayhem in the hopes of becoming famous, as they were the biggest band, at the time...In Norway anyhow. But, Euronymous was getting some sort of cult following, probably that occured from all the rumours spread about him, and his 'satanic cult group', which only actually ever had him as a member. Anyhow, Varg didn't like this 'satanic stuff' anyway, so disliked Euronymous because of it, however, he also couldn't handle being second best either. I believe him when he says he thinks Euronymous was going to plot to kill him, maybe a mind-set like his could make you paranoid, so anyway - he drove to Euronymous' apartment and knifed him to death. I do not believe that Euronymous put up the fight like Varg says in 'Vargsmal' though....Which I do have a poor translation of if anybody is interested.
If you don't already have it, Stormblast is their best work, in my opinion - however, it is quite different to P.E.M, and Spiritual Black Dimensions is an album worth getting too.remember buying Dimmu Borgir's Enthrone Darkness Triumphant almost 2 years ago, and listening to few songs on there a lot, but that's about it. I'm on a scouting mission next week for some new metal from the sunny shores of Hungary, I'll let you know how I got on in about a weeks time....
oooo Dream Evil.
Debut album owns, more power
And they've got two albums out in less than 14 months. Thats a fast release rate. If you want to know something about them, the guitarist/keyboardist is the guy who produced In Flames/Hammerfall albums and the vocalist/bassist have supplied backing vocals for hammerfall.
WHOO! Got the limited edition (2500 copies) SYL tour EP. A friend snapped them up from Century Media and offered me the 2nd copy he got. Another Devy collectors item.
Went and saw a friend's band Inane Eminance play. I like their style, influenced by the Swedish scene, primitive Black metal and traditional metal. They're supporting Dungeon in March. My buddy bought Stuart from Dungeon's custom ESP guitar. Fully cuts some awesome solos with it.
Anyone heard of/heard Dungeon?
I only have No Sleep 'Til Bedtime for SYL albums. Is that a good gauge for the rest of Devin Townshend's CDs? I've been thinking of picking up City for a while, but given all the other stuff I want (scratch that, NEED) to get, I'm gonna let that wait for a while longer.
"Far Beyond Metal" is such a kickass fucking song. Is he taking the piss out of Gwar or what? He's talking about cheesy voices in metal, and he's singing lines from "Maggots."
Yep I own the A Rise To Power cd, released late last year (you would notice if you looked at the full albums list) absolutely fantastic cd, it's like im back in 1988 again. Power metal mixed with thrash = godliness.Originally posted by NiMMERS

So yes I've heard of Dungeon. Two thumbs up.
Well I'll check them out when they tour here next.......right after my mates and I heckle I.A. to play Arch Enemy's 'Pilgrim'. It's sort of tradition
Das ist fantastisch!
I happened to be looking for a new wallpaper too.
I made Iron Maiden - Fear of the Dark and Immortal - Blizzard Beasts today.
I like Blizzard Beasts a lot, not as much as SOND, but a lot more than DIB.
Fear of the Dark is cool too...not quite as good as others I have though.
I`ve always thought it was one of their worst,in fact it`s probably the least listened to Maiden album I own & i`ve not bought any new material from them sinceOriginally posted by SideburnZ

I`ve always thought Killers is vastly underated too

Are you fucking serious? This guy started the 'proper' wave of black metal. We're talking 1980's, if you looked on the bottom you'd see that!I thought corpse paint wasnt mandatory anymore in black metal?
Um....So what was with the above comment? And Varg killed him, although I believe I'd already established that point a few posts ago. Presuming it ever needed establishing, which i wouldn't have bet on but hey...being killed by Varg and Snorre.
That time of month is it? Relax dude. I aint bagging black metal at all....I listen to it.

I know my basic facts on the history of black metal. Your comment still sits besides the fact that to play black metal you dont necessarily require any make-up. Besides, didnt bands like Bathory lay foundations for this type of music? Didnt Venom write a song named 'Black Metal' which coined the name of a whole genre of heavy music?Originally posted by SpiritualBlackDimensions

Indeed you don't, most do though.I know my basic facts on the history of black metal. Your comment still sits besides the fact that to play black metal you dont necessarily require any make-up.
Venom...How shall we say unintentionally created it. Cronos claims when he said 'black metal' his vision was a mixture of all the 'heavy music' at the time, from rock to heavy metal (Yes, what a spectrum there....) Bathory and Mayhem were taking it more seriously, Mayhem created more the image (alot of their music pre-mysteriis was closer to DM than BM) While Bathory created more the music that would be taken into account by more 'modern-black metal' (all non-guitar/bass/drum music) although they did set alot of the foundation down for true BM too.Besides, didnt bands like Bathory lay foundations for this type of music? Didnt Venom write a song named 'Black Metal' which coined the name of a whole genre of heavy music?
He was probably the one that drove Vikernes there. Allegedly (according to Varg) they wrote something on a picture of Euronymous and burned it (Anybody see the irony of him bashing LaVey here? ). Anyhow, the driver obviously knew what Vikernes had in mind, and willfully took him there and back. I presume that's what you mean anyhow, I've never heard of anyone else physically harming Euronymous, but if you have anything on that I'd be more than happy to read it.I read an article on how Snorre was alleged to have been an accessory to the murder.

What sort of criticism are they getting now? In the past they got shit hung on them cos people thought they were ripping off Slayer.
I've just read some reports that say that their songwriting is pretty ordinary on the new album. I'd like to go see them live, but I don't think I'll get the chance.
I found this on the Metalshop website-
"The once Iron Maiden vocalist Paul Di'Anno has announced that he is recording an album of Maiden tunes, acoustically.
This is the first studio recording comprised solely of acoustic Maiden tracks, and it is due out later on in the year."
Iron Maiden accoustic covers?! Might have to listen to that when it comes out.
Picked up Fantomas - The Director's Cut. I've heard I'll either love it or hate it.
It's different, that's what I'd say.Their cover of the "Rosemary's Baby" theme is well worth a listen. Gotta love Mike Patton, the man isn't afraid to experiment.
Bah I can't find Maiden's wasted years for my phone.
I didnt like The Director's Cut much on the first listen. Second listen, different story. Awesome musicianship. Eclectic, eccentric, experimental......these words do not do the release justice.
Tried to get rid of your Mission:Impossible theme, huh, Dave?
Nimmers, you should check out Tomahawk. They don't sound much like Fantomas, but they're another great project involving Mike Patton.
Yeah Tomahawk are pretty schmick. Downloaded a few tracks a while back and I put them on the hitlist. No luck as of yet, though.
Yep, you should definitely track down the Tomahawk album. Apparently, they also have another one out sometime this year.
Holy shit, I've done it again.
I've realized that when I buy a CD, if I don't care for it at all, I'll put it away and forget about it for a while. Or if I hear only 1 or 2 songs I like at the time, I'll just play those songs and ignore the rest.
I was looking for CDs I haven't heard for a while when I was at home last night, so I put in Carcass' Necroticism: Descanting the Insolubrius and Death's The Sound of Perseverance. What the hell was I thinking when I decided I didn't like these?!? Oh well...at least I didn't sell them. It seems like I've been discovering/rediscovering a lot of stuff lately.
I'm looking forward to the new Haunted album. ...Made Me Do It was fun to listen to. I thought they sounded a lot like Slayer, but a lot of their stuff sounds more thought out, like they had more time to write it.
Too bad the release date for the new Anthrax is later in the US...a lot later. I have to wait until April 15th.
By the way, did anybody like Stomp 442? I thought it was awesome, but it seems like lots of people thought it was sub-par. Oh well, fuck them. And fuck you too if you didn't like it!!
I often re-discover the brilliance of albums I've bought a long time ago, but kind of put away for a while. Dream Theater's "Metropolis Part 2- Scenes From A Memory" is one example of that.
I've been into my Devin Townsend official bootleg lately.
You guys rant alot about Dream Theater. Maybe I should check them out. Any reccomendations?
Awake would be my favourite album, and Metropolis Part 2 and Images And Words are both great. Dave would be the best one to ask, he has virtually all their live and studio albums.
Seems that Audioslave are virtually confirmed to play the Hordern pavilion in April. Damn, I'm pysched.
Depends what you are after.. "awake" is probably their heavist CDOriginally posted by NiMMERS

my personal favourite is "images and words" simply because the song "Metropolis, Pt. 1" is so awesome
good band.. hopefully getting the DVD of live scenes from new york soon
Fuck yes, Audioslave tour.I am there.
"Awake" is my favourite, probably 'cause I can relate to it the most.Exceptional album.
Crabby must you always say I'm the best one to ask? I own em all except Change Of Seasons but the majority of that record is on Live Scenes.
I like Awake the most, then Live Scenes purely because it only cost me $25 for over 3 hours of music (US$12) and it was my first DT record, a very good way to start IMO. You have most of Scenes Of A Memory (DT's concept album) and most of the good tracks off the other previous releases.
Day and Dream Unite is not up to par with the rest of the albums, James doesn't sing on it and it's not that well produced.
Images and Words was their first major release and it hit big, major songs on it are 'Pull Me Under', 'Metropolis: part 1: The Miracle and the Sleeper', 'Take The Time' and 'Learning to live'. A brilliant album. Which is why the others said they loved it.
Awake is their heaviest release and my favourite prolly because it's darker and features a brilliant instrumental in Erotomania, plus it has Caught In A Web, The Mirror and the final Kevin moore song 'Space Dye Vest' though it's not a metal song it's brilliant. It's the reason kevin moore left the band though.
Change Of Seasons is essentially one song much like Six Degrees Of Inner Turbulence, and it clocks in around 25 minutes. There are bits and pieces from other things on that album, but I don't own it so I can't really comment.
Falling into Infinity is their softest most emotional album, and frankly it's not my favourite by a long shot, it has some nice tracks in 'Peruvian Skies', 'Just Let Me Breathe', You Not Me' and 'New Millennium', but too soft/emotional for my liking
Scenes From A Memory is a beautiful concept album, up there with Queensryche's Operation: Mindcrime but perhaps not as dark. Slightly harder to follow also but not as hard as Symphony X's V: The New Mythology Suite. I prefer the live version of this album prolly because I heard it first.
Live Scenes in a 3 disc 188 minute piece of brilliance. I say start with this, even if its live it's still fantastic quality and gives you pieces of all their career besides Seix Degrees. Once in A LiveTime perhaps relies on Falling Into Infinity a tad too much for me to like it.
Six Degrees was their 2002 release, you could consider this by thinking since it's their most recent it would have the best production, which would be incorrect. Most of the albums have a very nice production. This album is full of filler IMO, if it was only 50min instead of the 90 I would be happy, but it's 90minutes long which kinda drags on a bit.
I say start with Live Scenes, then perhaps I&W, Awake and go from there.
mmm I agree ( on it being brilliance)... the live version of Metropolis, Pt. 1 is worthy.. plus the hypnosis guy makes me giggleOriginally posted by Aussie_Outlaw

Yeah Glass Prison is gold, but still the ret of the album falls away.
That song is worth the price of admission aloneOriginally posted by Aussie_Outlaw

of course it is probably better just to download it or something
Do you have all the Dream Theater albums yet, Dave?
