'City' then 'No Sleep 'til Bedtime', then the latest one which is self titled and then get the debut 'Heavy as a really heavy thing'.

    Sorted.

Just wondering if anyone has heard any of the following bands:

    • The Agony Scene
    • Underoath
    • 7th Cross
    • Nightwish
    • Soultorn
    • Scars of Life
    • Man the Machine
    • Age of Ruin

I came across these bands, and downloaded a few of their songs. Most of it is thrash/metal and there are some quality tunes by each band. Scars of life is class.

I've heard sereral of their songs. I guess it just wasn't my thing, with the mellower songs and the operatic vocals.

...but I guess that's a contradiction right there, because I really like the newer Therion stuff. Their formula is really similar.

Just as a point of interest (okay, well, of mild interest), my friend's local band called Revolution (www.revolutionrocks.com)'s tour manager also works with SYL and they may be doing some small gigs with SYL in the near future. Just thought that was a cool point.

I've seen a few guys around here mention Tomahawk, but i've never listened to any of their stuff. But the other day, i saw an advert promoting their tour down here. What music do they produce? Comparisons? Songs to download?

Its another of Mike Pattons bands...whom you probably know from Faith No More. So I guess thats the best comparison...althought they're quite different.

Check out Pop 101, Flashback, Sweet Smells Of Success and Narcosis.

Tomahawk is the project of Patton's that overall probably sounds most like Faith No More, at least in terms of vocals and the fact he sings a hell of a lot more.Atmospheric, weird heavy rock basically. The band also includes The Mark Of Cain drummer John Stainer.

And Tomahawk,Fantomas and most likely The Melvins will be touring Australia soon.Oh hell yeah.

Rhys,when/where did you see an ad for the tour? 'Cause the dates haven't been announced yet anyway.

Hey...does Tomahawk sound enough like FNM's 'King For a Day...' that I would like them?

And Dave coming out with solo work= x 3498764

I wonder if Junior will be on it, too, since he wrote the parts for Megadeth that Dave didn't.

Dammit, I referred to a band as "Dave." I really hope no Dave Matthews Band fans are looking at this...

David is producing the WarMachine album but i havent heard word on that for some time. Also if you read the news it also says at the funeral/wake thing Dave was surprised David turned up and he said he looked well, which looks like Dave and David haven't spoken for awhile.

Plus wasn't David doing something Dan Spitz (ex-Anthrax) and Nicko McBrain (Maiden) but Nicko has a massive Maiden tour with the new album finished.

Yes the new album Maiden album is finished,

Wow. That's pretty crazy. Junior always seemed second in command, so I'm surprised they haven't kept in contact. But then again, band status doesn't always dictate social status, I guess.

    That's what I was thinking.

It depends on what musical direction he takes, IMO. But Ellefson should be there, too. IT'S JUST NOT RIGHT!

If it had Dave and David it would be Megadeth, even if the other two members were ring ins.

Lamb of God is pretty damn good, from what few songs I've heard of them. But I never think of looking for them when I'm buying CDs.

I first heard of them on www.killuglytv.com a few years back, but haven't checked them out until about 6 months ago. I need to buy their CD.

They use to be known as Burn the Priest and they released a debut under that name. But a few years back they released another under their current name Lamb of God by the name of New American Gospel which was produced by Steve Austin (of Today Is The Day fame, not WWE). I need to hunt the rest of that shit down, pronto!

    Seriously reccomended.

Has the question: What would Dream Theater sound like in a video game ever plagued your thoughts for hours on end? I know it has confused me for eons.

So Stumbling around I found this.

    http://www.geocities.com/psychocond...mtheaterNES.mp3

Dream Theater's Overture 1928 played on the Nintendo.

It should go to number one.

Nimmers, does your copy of Devin Townsend Band's "Accelerated Evolution" have the extra disc (It has a few extra tracks on it,all of which are quite lengthy)? 'Cause I've seen both the single and double-CD versions, and I'm just wondering if it's worth the extra cash (the two-CD one is around $40 around here) for the extra material. Rock.

Yeah I ordered my digipack from HevyDevy and cost me like $33 or something. At J.B. it's reasonably priced. But is it worth $40? No. The EKO project is just Devin fucking round with a sampling program like Fruity Loops or Dance E-Jay. Electronic music is just not too my taste. But definitely for AE either way.

I saw it in the 'Gong the other day for about $40 with the extra tracks, although I saw it in more than one place that was the only one with the bonus disc.I might just get the single disc when I do get around to buying it anyway.

Yeah that'd be the way to go. As a huge Devy fan, I don't want any more music in the vein of EKO. Ich.

I have to say that getting some more Maiden and Devy in my collection is definitely a priority ATM.Only problem is heaps of Devy's projects are damn hard to find.Strapping Young lad is the only one of his projects I actually own albums from so I'm keen to extend that.I'm also keen to get my hands on Symphony X's "The Odyssey".

Bought the new Deftones album today. On first impressions it's pretty good though maybe not quite as experimental as WP.

Bar the Maiden and concentrate on the Devy
Depends on how good your local heavy music outpost is. I've seen pretty much every Devy solo release. If that fails, find a find with a credit card and order direct from HevyDevy. If ya do it often enough you get some stickers and personal notes from his wife and photocopied articles from mags on him which is cool.

Do so. It's for you're own good.

Iron Maiden really are not my cup of tea. Never struck a chord with me like most people who like to explore innovators and pioneers of heavy music.

I'm seriously in an Iron Maiden/Judas Priest obsession period ATM.The first time I heard them years ago I was a little indifferent but I gave them another chance soon after and absolutely loved them.

The 3 Vulgar Videos (all past 3 Pants home vids). Hunt it down, it's classic.

I've been looking for that but I can't find it anywhere? What's on it?

I haven't watched it all yet, but it's pretty cool.Loads of videos, some cool live footage from the various stages of their career, interviews, etc.Plus some other interesting stuff like news footage of when a couple of hundred people rioted at UNSW after the band's gig there was cancelled without their knowledge.

The bonus multimedia stuff on the Audioslave album is also pretty damn cool,I must say.

And I'm seeing Cog again this Thursday.Even better is that it's free 'cause I'm a UOW student. They headed up your way again soon?

Nimmers,do you have Fear Factory's "Concrete" or "Hatefiles"?

Hatefiles and Concrete? I lost interest in FF when I heard Digimortal plus I was getting into alot of other stuff at the time.

Both those albums don't sound much like Digimortal apparently.Concrete was their debut album produced by Ross Robinson that never actually got released (though a few of the tracks later ended up on SOANM and Demanufacture).

Cog have the goods. It's a question of when a major label decides to pick them up and give them the push they deserve.

WHOO! 'A Lethal Dose Of American Hatred' comes out in July! I eagerly anticipate it.

The only problem is they still cop a little shit from some people who think they rip off Tool in a major way.Which IMO they definitely do not anyway.

I've never heard anyone bag them for that. I can hear the resemblance in their sound but I don't like Tool at all. I find MJK's irritating to be honest.

I love Tool's music and I can see the influence, but not much more than that is evident in Cog's sound in reality.

I have to get their other EP and new maxi-single as well.A few more CD's to add to my hitlist.

Whilst on aussie metal where is new Frankenbok? It's gonna rock very hard. I hope Adam B. Metal sounds as good on disc as he does live.

Do they have a website? I'm trying to find out if they're playing in the 'Gong anytime soon.

Do you dig The Mark Of Cain?

    Found this on Metalshop-

"PANTERA frontman Philip Anselmo has told MTV.com that although the band has not officially broken up, there are no immediate plans to work together.

"If five or 10 years down the way, [everyone] wants to get together and do more PANTERA music, then we'll see," Anselmo said. "Of course, it would take some soul searching from all of us."
Anselmo is focusing his attention on his hardcore metal band SUPERJOINT RITUAL, while guitarist Dimebag Darrell and drummer Vinnie Paul work on their new outfit, NEW FOUND POWER.
"I think each and every one of us needs to get some other pieces of music out of their systems," Anselmo said. "And I think that some of us need to take some time for ourselves to get on with life again instead of reliving the past over and over and over."
The singer also revealed that DOWN, his side-project band with PANTERA bassist Rex Brown, CORROSION OF CONFORMITY frontman Pepper Keenan, CROWBAR guitarist Kirk Windstein and EYEHATEGOD guitarist Jimmy Bower (who's also in SUPERJOINT RITUAL), may also be on indefinite hold.
"As much work and as much blood and sweat that we gave to those two records is how much we weren't given back or helped or even pushed a minute at all by our record label," he said. "It's basically sabotage and it's painful to take a knife in the back like that. They don't give a shit at all that DOWN is some people's favorite band. They don't care that the new METALLICA sounds a lot like DOWN. They don't care that Jack Osbourne, who's on the cover of People magazine, has a DOWN shirt on. No way. They're just telling us that this record's run its course and it's over with. So until a lot of business is taken care of with and between the record labels, it's very tough for a band like DOWN to function at all." SUPERJOINT RITUAL, whose sophomore album, "A Lethal Dose of American Hatred", is due on July 22 through Sanctuary Records, remains Anselmo's top priority at the moment. "Right now it feels absolutely thrilling to be playing back in smaller clubs and to have kids right dead in front of my face and be playing hard-ass-core music that people are reacting to violently," he said. "I fucking love that, and that is SUPERJOINT RITUAL."

Oh man. They are both great. Listened to them about 30 times already.

The cover of "Somebody Put Something In My Drink" by the Ramones is great.

    Nevermore (Enemes of Reality)

    July 29th.

    Title Track
    http://rx2.servebeer.com/Nevermore-E...eality-rx2.mp3

Heavier than Dead Heart, but still remaining melodic, should be awesome.

Just got the new Anthrax yesterday. I think I've listened to the entire thing about 5 times already. I always knew Charlie was a good drummer, but I never realized he was that good. It's too early to say if this album tops Sound of White Noise, but it's up there. And what's up with "Black Dhalia?" I think that's the first time I've heard a blast beat (or something close to it) in an Anthrax song. It had me thinking, "what the fuck?!?" but had me enjoying it at the same time. Man, this CD kicks ass.

Actually that was on 'The X Factor'. Saw Maiden live last night and I'm still high from it so if anyone slags them off I'm likely to fly into a rage... Let that be a warning

As for Anthrax I saw them a couple of months ago. Good gig, their new album seems to be a bit of a return to form as I hadn't been too impressed with them lately.

TMOC are pretty good. I use to listen to Ill At Ease a hell of alot back in the day. But they don't really do much for me these days.
You didn't like This Is This? One of my favourite albums, if you haven't heard it you're seriously missing out.By far the best of their albums so far. And they kick serious arse live.

I'd definitely recommend you give the album a listen.

Bought Sepultura's "Nation" and "Against" cheap today, liking both of them though I prefer "Nation" ATM.

Did you also find out that it'll be mixed in Dolby 5.1?

    I don't think so.

Edguy's Burning Down The Opera was released today.

So I went into the city and was the first person in Australia to purchase it.

Lemme just say the packaging rules. It's more like a book than a cd with two discs in the front and back.

Deftones have covered Helmet's "Sinatra" as a B-Side for the "Minerva" single. I'm yet to hear it but it would be interesting.

I have a fair list of CD's to buy, but for some reason, i can't find a shop that sells 'em. My uncle has ordered them in, but it will take a good few weeks. 'tis shit.

It's fairly easy to find any sort of music in Melbourne.

I can't see how you can't find anything.

JB hi Fi has a fair bit.

Apparently Machine Head will be producing their next album themselves. And they're still a trio ATM, I don't know when they plan to replace Ahrue Luster.

Holy shit, the CDs I ordered on Sunday already arrived today! But then again, I guess Utah isn't that far away from me...

They just gave me a CD-ROM with at least 30 mp3s on it. I'll have to check that out once I'm done listening to the stuff I got. I haven't heard of any of the bands on it (except Marduk), so this should be interesting.

Listening to Dissection right now. It's only on track 2, and it sounds badass.

    Get with the program!
Ahrue got replaced a few months ago by ex-Violence guitarist Phil Demmel. They've been rehearsing for ages and now I hear they're ready to start cutting some tracks.

I heard they were going to put Phil in Ahrue's place, but I didn't realise that he had actually formally taken his position.

Can I get a metal person's review of St Anger?

    And NOT a pop review.

Yeah I'll burn the album off a friend prolly next week. Plus my brother is copying the first QOTSA album for me off his friend.

I've heard that song and yes I'd agree.

Plus I also hear the DVD mix is better than the cd, and not purposely. But you cant get much worse than the cd mix.
