Really looking forward to our Wisconsin game, two probably evenly matched teams or close to it.

Are they playing another slow fat white team with one good WR?

As a Noles fan I'm pretty excited about the Taggart hire. Glad they looked past his pedestrian wl record and saw a coach who took over floundering programs and breathed life into them. Also a coach versatile enough to change the foundation of his coaching pedigree from the Jack/Jim Harbough power method he'd had success with at W. Kentucky to the spread he'd had the personnel for at USF. And perhaps most importantly a coach who has strong roots in Florida, born and raised and a high school state champion player on to coaching USF, who can woo the shit out of that talent hotbed.

And I'm glad that for everything Jimbo did for the program we can move on from the continuous year after year talk of what Jimbo wanted and who he was flirting with to leverage his getting it. No hard feelings either really, just happy to have an exciting young coach who wants to be there.

Looks like the coaching carousel is about to come to a halt. Oregon is the last big job left and I hear they are debating between the 2 coordinators. None of the other jobs open are going to pull head coaches from other places. Unless someone decides to fire their head coach after the bowl it looks like we are about done.

Anyone out there good enough to be hired by an NFL team? That would require a new college hire.

Harbaugh and the Stanford Coach are the only two who've been tied to NFL interviews in previous years. I think Harbaugh might think to jump, a team like the Giants could appeal to him.

Saben has been mentioned now for New York but I doubt it.

Wisconsin plays in the Big 10 which is known for physical plodding offenses. They are not known for their athletes. In the last 2 years the Big 10 representative in the playoffs were both shut out.

Donald Hill-Eley has the interim tag removed at Alabama State. Its not on the list because its not a FBS school but its interesting because the team was 0-5 before he was named interim and they won 5 of the last 6. Fairly impressive in season turn around.

Kind of surprised you don't like the Cristobal hire. It is getting rave reviews from players and media. He is basically the best recruiter in the country and has HC experience. Also, been a key assistant at some of the biggest schools in America. Seems like a really good hire to me. Outside of Chip and UCLA, I might even call him the best hire. Moorhead at Miss St at #3.

I don't buy into the "best recruiter" hype making someone a good head coach. Tim Brewster is a renowned recruiter. In fact some may call him the "best recruiter in the nation." He bombed at Minnesota. He also has been an NFL assistant and is currently an assistant at FSU. That wouldn't make me excited if he were hired.

Oregon basically has an unlimited budget with Nike. They could over pay for people if they wanted. They could spend on facilities and such and not silly helmets. They will continue to be also rans in the Pac 12 behind USC, UCLA, Stanford, Washington, and even Washington St.

I am very pleased with the Pruitt hire. After everything that happened it seems unreal we managed to get him to say yes.

It's a gamble to some degree. He's never been a head coach. But it's not like things can get any worse for the football program at this point. Now is the time to take that chance.

Looks like it's going to take a minor miracle to prevent another all SEC title game.

However this should really get the ball moving on expanding the playoff field.

One thing that frustrates me every year is when a team or conference performs well in a bowl and everyone says "see they are good!" Bowl games are nothing but exhibition games. They do not matter. There is a reason coaches leave and take new jobs before them and players sit them out for the NFL Draft.

This whole narrative about how good the Big 10 is because they did well in bowls puts me to sleep.

Thought we were done with the coaching carousel but Rich Rodriguez has been abruptly fired by Arizona. Details are still coming out, but it seems to be a combination of on-field performance and off-field issues. The university is being sued by his former assistant who says he created a hostile work environment, she was forced by him to lie to his wife (presumably to cover up an affair he was having). He was due a $3 million retention bonus in March and the on-field performance just didn't justify keeping him with these other issues. They didn't fire him for cause, they'll pay him his $6 million buyout.

Biggest potential effect would probably be Khalil Tate transferring. If Tate sticks around they've got a star quarterback and a ton of young players who played this year, not too bad a situation to inherit. If their Offensive Coordinator Calvin Magee isn't implicated in the misconduct they could do worse than to promote him.

The big 10 is good though. Your line of thinking isn't completely accurate at all. A lot of teams take the bowl games very very seriously especially in regards with recruiting.

Idk, I've heard more than a couple coaches speak to how hard it is to keep a team's attention during bowl play. It essentially becomes a vacation with an exhibition game to put on in the meantime.

I think bowl games mean more to certain teams over others. You can tell UCF tried their hardest and did all they could to win that game against Auburn. It's a big win for them. I think both PSU and Washington played a hard fought game that both wanted to win as well. I think the teams it affects the most are the ones that just miss out on the playoffs but even Ohio State, Wisconsin, and Notre Dame seem unaffected by the layoff.

The argument isn't that teams intentionally don't take them seriously, more so that it's just a by-product of the overall nature of the end of the season and the game not really counting for anything of substance while these kids are on the road enjoying themselves and receiving schwag with the coaching carousel meanwhile in full swing.

Ultimately the pregame speech isn't just 'fuck it', but amongst the hoopla of factors at play trying to make an argument that these games speak to anything like the competition of the regular season in determining who's who just doesn't really hold up.

While I understand the logic of being undefeated and feeling snubbed for not being in the playoff, this is going to another level.

Well it is not just that they are undefeated, but they did just beat the one team, Auburn, that beat both of the teams in the national championship, Alabama and Georgia.

I think that should count for something. It is yet another legit reason for an 8 team playoff.

It assuredly would, if they didn't beat them in a meaningless game.

Apparently UCF is going as far as to pay all the coaches National Title bonuses, even though most of them are leaving for Nebraska as we speak.

Bama 35-14. It will be over the moment Bama goes up double digits. I love College Football, but its almost the same three teams the best few years. Boring as hell.

    Saban is a mad man.

Championship game. Better put in the true freshman who only played garbage time minutes.

The craziest bit, it's worked so far.

Meanwhile Georgia's kicker casually hitting a 51 yarder.

I feel were only going to have 1 OT either way here.

    Boohoo.

Saban's a badass who can recruit, coach, prepare, and made one hell of a ballsy call with all the marbles on the line ... and I personally find it entertaining to watch other teams/coaches try and knock him off the mountain.

... and to listen to people moan continuously about it.

Was it really that ballsy though? His Hurts was doing absolutely nothing and he pretty much had no choice. It seemed like an obvious decision. Also, did he not know his backup qb was better than his starter this whole time? Feels like a Culpepper/Brees situation all over again but this time got bailed out.

Well his inexperienced QB on the biggest stage almost lost it for them with that giant sack before he redeemed himself. So I think it was pretty ballsy.

That same QB got them in the game to begin with. 20 second half points mostly due to his escapability and great throws. Hurts couldn't throw more than 5 yards. There is no OT without that. Seemed more obvious than ballsy. Hell, I bet most Bama fans and people watching on tv were calling for the change.

Ultimate Saban toll job. Lets Georgia lead 13-0 at half and then beats them anyway with his back up QB.

Of course he did. Nowhere am I disputing that it ended up being the right call. What I am saying is that even as well as he played he also showed the risk of putting in an inexperienced QB. Of course Hurts could also have made those same mistakes. But don’t act like it’s a normal thing to replace your starting QB in a championship game.

It's not a normal thing but how many times have we seen a historically bad qb performance in a championship game? 21 yards passing and down 13-0. It's almost like he had no choice but to make the change in my opinion. I think most people said to themselves "about time" when he made the change. I know I did.

I'm really commending Saban for doing it. I know most coaches wouldn't take that risk and would ride the guy that got them there. Because if it goes wrong (like with Peterman for the Bills) you can be absolutely destroyed for it.

I think comparing bringing a rookie qb in an NFL game is different than a freshman in college. I feel like in college football most players are on equal footing. Bringing in a rookie against the likes of Bose and Ingram was never a good idea.

I agree on the talent side of things. He was recruited and given a scholarship and for the most part outside of the odd stand outs (which Hurts is not) the talent level isn't going to be that different.

But on the other hand I'm thinking this is a kid, only what 18/19 years old? I would think the pressure would get more to them to suddenly be thrown out there. As I said though, it worked out great in this case.

How much significant time do you think Tua has spent running and working on executing this offense as the backup? It took stones.

    RIP Keith Jackson..

Not sure how many here grew up waking up every Saturday morning expecting Keith Jackson to welcome them to the day's lineup and big moments. I did, and it's a pretty rad memory.

As someone who always loved college football more than pro, Keith Jackson was far more important to me than Madden/Summerall or any NFLer could have been. Most memorable sports broadcaster of my life.

Ohio State has placed head coach Urban Meyer on paid administrative leave. The school’s decision comes in the fallout of the situation involving wide receivers coach Zach Smith, who Meyer fired last week. Smith was accused of domestic violence multiple times over a six-year period by his then-wife, Courtney, dating back to Zach’s time on Meyer’s staff at Florida. How much Meyer knew about the accusations against his longtime assistant has come into question and is at the center of Wednesday’s announcement.
In a press release, Ohio State said it is “conducting an investigation into these allegations.” Ryan Day, the team’s offensive coordinator, will serve as acting head coach.
“We are focused on supporting our players and on getting to the truth as expeditiously as possible,” the release said.
Meyer also released a statement: “[AD] Gene [Smith] and I agree that being on leave during this inquiry will facilitate its completion. This allows the team to conduct training camp with minimal distraction. I eagerly look forward to the resolution of this matter.”
At Big Ten Media Days last week, Meyer acknowledged he was aware of a 2009 incident involving Smith and his then wife — when Meyer was the head coach at Florida and Smith was a staff intern — but was quick to deny any knowledge about an incident from 2015. However, text messages obtained by veteran college football reporter Brett McMurphy, plus an on-camera interview given by Courtney Smith, paint a different picture.
Wow. Wonder if this will be the second big scandal that brings down an OSU coach THIS DECADE. It would leave the Big Ten open for Michigan, Michigan State, and Wisconsin.

Urban is going to end up getting in more trouble than the abuser. It is the cover-up more than the crime but it still feels wrong to fire someone for someone else abusing their wife. Everything is someone else's fault these days

He protected a wife beater. He should be fired if that’s true.

There is a big difference between kids and adults. In a moral society, all adults have a duty to protect children regardless of their position. But Paterno did report the incident to his superiors as he was required to (unlike Urban).

But the wife stayed married to the guy afterwards. If she wants to stay, who's business is it to get involved. People make dumb decisions everyday.

The guy wasn't charged with a crime and his wife didn't divorce him but it was reported to the police.

So? He knew about what happened yet continued to employ this guy.
As for the wife not leaving, maybe she was terrified? That is a common reason why people don’t leave in abusive relationships.

That is quite the standard we are setting then. No conviction required anymore. Unproven Allegations now equal termination.

If that is the world we all want to live in, I don't really care since I don't threaten women but that is a very different world than the one we are all used to is my only point. I think people need to think long and hard if that is the standard they really want and be clear that is what they want.

What does a conviction have to do with it? He beat his wife. They went to therapy for it, he did it again. What else do you need?

Because there are legal ramifications to terminating people and damaging their reputation.

I feel like a much bigger issue is why the police didn’t follow up on the charges.

I wasn't there obviously, but from what I've seen part of the reason the police didn't follow up is because Meyer and his wife helped convince the victim not to ruin her husband's life over something as trivial as her own.

Your priorities are all fucked up on this, just so you know. This is NOT a he said she said situation where guilt is in question. Everybody acknowledges what the guy did and if Meyer knew, this paid leave he's on is bullshit. He is employed by a public university and his job is in large part to teach young men how to behave. Even if you don't give a damn about the victim of the abuse, that alone is enough reason to fire Meyer. Either way Mrs. Meyer should absolutely lose her job, there's proof that she knew and she also works for the university I believe. The reputation of a rich, powerful man should be of a lot less concern to you than the safety of a woman with a history of being victimized by another rich, powerful man. If that doesn't make sense, maybe take a step back and try to gain some perspective.
