With this year's team being so young the next two years present opportunities. This team is overachieving, but they also have almost no seniors. Next year's team will probably bring back at least 17 starters (that's if LJ Scott turns pro).

Need LeWerke to take a step forward though. Great runner, passing could use some work.

As much more of a college basketball fan compared to football. Watching this Ohio St - Penn St game. God do I miss having Gus Johnson during March Madness.

How about now? Can we cross NC State off the list?

Ohio State stays alive. If Penn State and Ohio State both win out, do we think they both get into the playoff? Hard to exclude PSU if their only loss is by one at Ohio State. Hard to keep the Buckeyes out if their only loss is to Oklahoma early in the season and they win the Big Ten.

Would Ohio State climb to 4?

I think it depends on how the title game plays out. Wisconsin is looking pretty good too

Sure, but they win the Big 10 title game as an undefeated and they have to be in.

OSU/PSU will be the first ranked team they played the whole season. But I agree they would be in.

All depends if notre dame wins out. Let’s assume Notre Dame loses one more and Ohio State wins big 10.....SEC winner, Ohio State, Acc winner if it’s a one loss Miami or Clemson and then the debate between the SEC loser and Penn State. Now if bama loses I think they get in. If Georgia loses close then they get in. If they get blown out then penn state gets in. A one loss notre dame gets in over a one loss Penn State. A one loss Acc champ also gets in.

Yeah I was commenting to the idea that "Wisconsin looks good." Well no shit, anyone would look good against that schedule. Except for Minnesota, they are trash. #FireFleck

Yeah, their schedule is pretty trash, but all they need to do is get to the Big 10 title game no matter their schedule.

After further review I am amending my top 4 to:
    1. Bama
    2. Georiga
    3. ND
    4. Oklahoma

Ive decided that the loss to Iowa St doesnt look as bad as it once did and their win in Columbus puts them over Ohio St.

I think Butch Jones is still there at Tennessee, but almost certainly gone by the end of the year.

There was a report that a buyout had been reached and his agent was already looking for a landing spot. He wont make it past Sunday.

Here is the link. I am calling him gone.

So who are the top coaching prospects? Gruden will eternally be connected with every major job. Chip Kelly is out there and definitely ready to coach again. Scott Frost from UCF seems like the top smaller school guy ready for a step up. Nebraska would love to have him, he'd be a good fit at Florida too. P.J. Fleck has only been at Minnesota for a year but someone should be looking to scoop him up before he proves himself to the big boys.

Ken Niumatalolo might not be willing to leave Navy, but he should be a top candidate for any job. No one does more with less every year.

Bo Pelini should be getting talked about for jobs. Maybe not Florida-level jobs, but the guy is criminally underrated. Won nine games every year at Nebraska (turns out not as easy as it seemed at the time) now doing great at Youngstown State.

I hope someone takes PJ from Minnesota. I cant stand the guy. Ever since he went on the radio here and said and I quote "The day my son died was the greatest day ofmy life." I was done with the guy.

    Dont forget about Les Miles.

And odds are Lane Kiffin gets a shot again somewhere with the way his offense is scoring.

Ohio State and Penn State both on the ropes after losses today. Ohio State would still stand a chance if they won out. Penn State needs to win out and get some help to get into the Big Ten Title Game.

Michigan State continues a huge turnaround season with the big win over Penn State. I was just hoping to get a bowl this year, now the team is 7-2 with wins over Michigan and Penn State. Worst case scenario is most likely 9-3 and a New Year's Day bowl game. This team is crazy young, should be really good next year.

Whoever wins their division gets in, along with Notre Dame if they win out. Lowest ranking conference winner doesn't get in. Easy enough for me.

    Fun wrestling crossover:

At Mark Dantonio's press conference this week a reporter's phone went off and the ringtone was "You're Welcome" from "Moana," which is of course sung by Dwayne Johnson: https://www.si.com/college-football/...nference-moana

The clip went viral, Rock and Dantonio had a Twitter exchange about it: http://www.freep.com/story/sports/co...ana/817256001/

The band on Saturday played "You're Welcome" throughout the game: https://www.sbnation.com/2017/11/4/1...gan-penn-state

And the school twitter account tweeted a video of the game-winning kick with the song playing in the background: https://twitter.com/MSU_Football/sta...58658033979392

They probably won't get The Rock to show up to a game, but they could probably get Saturn to come and say "You're Welcome."

Some big games on Saturday. Loser of Oklahoma/TCU is out of the playoff hunt. Loser of Notre Dame/Miami is going to be a real longshot. Michigan State/Ohio State is most likely going to determine the Big Ten East champion. Washington needs to beat Stanford to stay in the playoff hunt. Oklahoma State and Iowa State competing for a spot in the Big Twelve Championship. And I didn't realize until now Georgia was playing Auburn. Been awhile since Georgia's had a test.

Man those rankings wreck my head, I never really analyse and go deep into it, I’ll leave that to you people who know what you’re taking about.

So 3 questions. Is the Miami rank about right? How’s a team’s schedule before the start of season detamined and how is it worked who gets an easy/hard one?

Miami is ranked just right. If they beat Notre Dame they move up even further. basically, if they win out they are automatically in the playoffs.

Teams have a conference schedule that is set by their respective conference. Then they are free to schedule 3-4 non conference games to get to 12 total. These are typically scheduled many years in advance. Note that Notre Dame is one of the few teams left that are not in a conference so they pick all of their games. However they have an agreement with the ACC to be apart of their conference in every other sport and they agree to play I think its 4 ACC teams every year in football.

Ohio state is out. They won't get in over a 1 loss big 12 team and they won't get in over a 0 or 1 loss ACC team. They also won't get in over the SEC winner and probably not over the SEC loser if they have 1 loss. They also have to worry about Notre Dame. They have 2 losses with one of them being a very bad loss. Wisconsin is really the only big 10 team that has a chance to get in.

I'm not convinced on that yet. If one rolls the other by 28 I think that will do the other in.

I think Bama will lose a game between now and the SEC title game. ND needs to take care of business and they need Georgia to win out. I can see ND being left out if Georgia loses a close game. I am not sold on Clemson either. I would have OK in the number 4 spot since they are actually beating rank teams while Clemson's big wins are coming against teams that don't look so good now.

You are nuts. If ND wins out they are the 2 seed. Maybe the 3 if Georgia loses a very tight one to Bama. ND's schedule blows the other teams out of the water.

I would absolutely put a one loss Clemson in over Oklahoma. They will have some quality wins if they win out and win the ACC. I know it shouldn't matter, but I would put the defending champ in there if they win their conference and have the same amount of losses.

Man you are such a Notre Dame biased fan. Who on Earth do you think Bama will lose to before the SEC title game? Sounds like it's something you are praying for than actually thinking that.

Chris, just so you know, in recent years Penn State has been just as well known for their off the field issues as they have for their play on the field.

A few years ago the school had a sordid scandal as one of their long time coaches was convicted on multiple sexual assault on minor charges. There is a lot more to the story as well.

The simplest reason to believe this is that while Bama has won multiple national titles with Saban, they have only finished undefeated one time. They always seem to lose one game they shouldn't.

So Georgia now has to win out to get into the playoff.

Great night of games. I've got ND/Miami on the TV and Alabama/Mississippi State on the laptop. Need another screen to watch Oklahoma/TCU.

I have to feel like Georgia just went into that game with the attitude that they were going to coast until the SEC championship game.

A lot why people don’t like it I think is because it’s Miami who came up with it.

I don't truly have a College Football team, but since I was a Dolphins fan I always tended to throw support behind the U. Plus I loved how they called themselves the U, such a great heel move. I'm quite surprised to see how well they're doing this season, did not anticipate it at all.

I also hate Bama entirely because of Nick Saban and how he left the Dolphins. They're like the Patriots of the college football world and damn does it frustrate me.

To some extent every game is huge at this point of the season, but the big games looming to me are:

-Iron Bowl (Auburn would make the playoff with wins over Alabama and Georgia)
-SEC Championship Game (Winner is in the playoff)
-Clemson vs. Miami, ACC Championship Game (Winner is definitely in, loser has a shot too)
-Big Ten Championship Game (Is the winner in? Undefeated Wisconsin certainly would be, I wouldn't rule out Ohio State getting in with a win)

This week is pretty soft. Best game is probably Michigan vs. Wisconsin, Notre Dame vs. Navy probably second?

Auburn would need to win the SEC title game meaning potentially needing wins over Bama and Georgia as well. I think that gets them in but it wouldn't hurt them to see a Wisconsin falter or Oklahoma maybe losing to West Virginia on the way

If Clemson loses another game they have no shot anymore because of the Syracuse loss. Also if Auburn beats Bama but loses the title game they are out as well with 2 losses. I think the 4 teams are getting clearer at this point.

    SEC Champion
    ACC champion
    Big 10 champion
Oklahoma if they win the big 12. If they lose then the 4th team is up in the air. Maybe Miami if they lose to Clemson or Bama if they lose to Georgia.

Teams with a playoff shot now

    Alabama
    Georgia
    Auburn
    Ohio State
    Wisconsin
    Miami
    Clemson
    Oklahoma

Anyone else? My prediction is Alabama, Miami, Oklahoma, Wisconsin.

I think Wisconsin will go into the Big 10 title game undefeated and lose and they will not get in. Neither will whoever beats them.

    Bama
    Clemson
    Oklahoma
    Miami

Baker Mayfield probably locked up the Heisman on Saturday night. A shame it took this long for people to finally realize that he's been the best player in college football for some time now. He had more rushing yards Saturday (against the top-ranked rush defense in the country no less) than Barkley had against RUTGERS on Saturday.

The kid is special and while OU's defense is the main factor that will probably cost them in the end, with Baker leading the offense and surrounded by the weapons they have, they’ve got a shot in every game against any team in the nation. And I'm not one to bet against Baker.

The kid is special and while OU's defense is the main factor that will probably cost them in the end, with Baker leading the offense and surrounded by the weapons they have, they’ve got a shot in every game against any team in the nation. And I'm not one to bet against Baker.
And a Stanford RB who actually had the best season will finish second…again.

I could still see "Burt" surviving one more year. The buyout drops quite a bit next year. Plus could they really hire a new AD this quick and then also hire a HC? I see them doing the AD this year and the football coach next year after the new AD has some time to make approaches.

    Hes gone.

Wilbon ripped on him today for ever leaving Wisconsin but I dont blame him. He said when he left he couldnt keep assistant coaches. Everyone else could pay them more. By moving he was able to get his guys a significant raise and keep them on staff.

One of those guys on his staff was my school's head coach and left us in shambles after getting rewarded for years of mediocrity. He left us to take a coordinator job in the middle of the night, even after being told he had one more year left to improve things. He was a scummy asshole and I hope he doesn't get another shot at a coordinator job.

Wait so they told him he had a year to fix it or he was gone... no wonder he left.

He was going on his 6th year with one of the weakest ADs in the country, who probably never would have fired him if it wasn't for the fanbase. He was getting an extension with a 6-6 record the year prior and his replacement went 7-6 with depleted talent the next year. He was a coward who knew he couldn't handle it and should have left sooner than February. You fuck over a program that showed such tolerance to you when you leave so close to signing day.

I am glad he left, but he was an asshole who could have done it sooner.

UCLA has fired Jim Mora. Start the Chip Kelly rumors.

Wow, hadn't really even thought about Mora getting fired but looking at the overall body of work and the trend it's not that shocking. Even in his best years it always felt like they were hitting highs they should have with their talent.

I think that's a premiere job. It's always been strange to me that UCLA isn't better. I know they have to compete with USC but there's so much talent in California. Seems like a natural landing spot for Chip Kelly.

Is it a premiere job though? They havent really had an extended run at the top of Pac 12/10 since mid 80's. And even then they only have one undefeated season in the conference and that was in 98 when they lost 2 games outside the conference.

It will always be a basketball school.

Expectations are manageable, the conference isn't too bad, you have loads of talent in your backyard. I think it's an excellent job.
