PSU pulled a USC. Honestly, the Penn State O-Line was holding for most of that last series. Still, a good win, I guess. Iowa is a weird team. They either play you very hard and beat you or you can walk all over them especially if they are away.

Barkley is the most ridiculous RB I have seen in college. He did some super human stuff.

Barkley is certainly a top 5 talent. Hell, I wouldn't be shocked if he goes 1 overall.

I have hated PSU even before we found out they organized child rape. They are the worst fans in the world and have a chip on their shoulder for a reason that is beyond me. They also choke in games that they should win and somehow always get screwed by Michigan or Ohio State even if they got all the calls. I was actually very much onboard with them getting the death penalty. I am also sickened the state government has done everything in their power to fight NCAA sanctions when its clear Joe Pa and most of his staff knew since the 70s.

Its still the same school. Even if you think JoPa was clean in the ordeal its still a school that had a pedo using the team facilities to sexually assault kids and either willingly looked the other way or were terribly negligent.

But beyond that their fan base is beyond obnoxious. Its also a shit hole to travel in and out of. Even with an 11 am game there is no way to catch a flight out after the game until the next day.

The same school that doesn't have the same people in charge or involved? I do not think Joe Pa was clean but he's also dead and has nothing to do with this team.

Do you know how small the airport is? Obviously you need to plan better for travel. I find it very easy to drive in and out of there as well.

There is also only one two way road Route 322 to get into and out of State College which eighteen wheelers are allowed to travel. The road is also a bit of a roller coast and 322 is notorious for all the construction going into PSU. Its a minor thing unless you already have a tired 5 year old and been on the road for 2 hours plus. Its annoying as fuck much like their fans.

hating the team is the key word here. you hate a team with kids that weren't even born when it was going on. seems fair.

I am aware. I wrote for a sports section for a handful of years. By the time your duties are done, you are stuck in that crap hole over night. No one wants to go there, especially the TV commentators.

We have given other reasons to hate them as well. Not just the sexual assaults. Those kids chose to go there, they didnt have to.

Dude, every fan hates a team or teams for years regardless of who they play. Honestly, I got nothing against the kids, its the fanbase I loath. I also think what happened at PSU is beyond Sandusky and Joe Pa. They were plenty of people who knew what was going during this time and do nothing from it or profited via the charities. You can see with the state senators fighting to keep the $60 million fines has more to do with protecting the school than helping hurt kids. Its a disgusting organization that continues to get players, because their parents brainwash them to think its an honor to go there even after all of this. I also think the free cars that a dealership Joe Pa made a deal with it, helps to.

I never said I hated the team. It is actually their fans that are easy to dislike. Maybe hate is a strong word.

But, the Penn State fan base is very easy to dislike and I don't think there is much debate to that.

I live in MN, and I dont really have a NCAA team that is my lock down favorite. My favorite college team now is St. John's. Other than that I tend to cheer for teams that play defense. I was an LSU guy for a while. I liked Miami as a kid. Nebraska was my team in high school because we went to a camp there.

Not sure what you are on about there.

And it's not all of the fans, but there was still a rather sizeable contingent that would not let go after the scandal. They protested the Paterno statue coming down. They acted like nothing had happened.

Every fan base has their bad eggs, but Penn State seems to have more fervent ones. And they seem to go over the top more so than other fans as well.

At a lot of other schools they would just try to move on. A lot of PSU fans can't seem to do that.

i was one of the fans that wanted the statue to come down so I get what you mean in that regards. I just don't think the players on the team should get the blame or hate here.

I actually think I enjoy rooting against college football teams more than for teams. My hated list in no particular order:

    Boise St
    Penn St
    Ohio St
    Florida St
    Texas

Boise State? That is an odd one.

A team that most people typically include in their list of teams to hate:

    Notre Dame

Boise State because of the blue field?

Florida already rubbed me the wrong way because I was never fan of Tebow.

Well...I see we have reached an impasse. Personally, our fanbase is like my father when even when they went 12-0, it wasn't good enough. To me, that was the perfect season and back in the old days they would have gotten the trophy for being the last team standing instead they got killed by an Alabama team that was more hungry than they were.

Boise St rubs me the wrong way because of how they and their fans acted like they should be considered one of the big boys. Yes they won a few big games against good teams but they also dropped a bunch as well to teams in the bottom of the top 25. They were not playing the schedule that other teams played and when they would beat a team in the Fiesta Bowl they go "see, see how good we are" when in reality they are beating teams who thought they had a shot at a national title going into the final weeks and fell off. Still nice wins but they are not the be all end all.

I also hated how they would complain that no power 5 would play them. They initially refused to go to any power 5 school unless they promised a return game at their place. Then that one year they proclaimed we have an open date next Sept and will take on anyone anywhere but no one will schedule us for that date... at that time only 5 schools were not scheduled for the max amount of games that year and none were power 5 schools. I thought that made them look like clowns.

Does it help that cheering for Notre Dame is the only Catholic thing left of me other than the teachings of Christ ie I stopped going to church.

Being Irish or Catholic doesn't mean you should cheer for Notre Dame. I never understood that.

Yes, because the random dice roll that is being close to a sports town is so much easier to understand.

I tend to lean towards traditional powers in college football.

I like when Alabama is good, Notre Dame, USC, Miami. I wish Nebraska would come back but I think that is over. Even after they fire this coach they dont have what most have to offer.

One thing I will say for Penn St is I liked their uniforms. Simple and 2 colors. (Not sure why but I like the 2 color look. Colts and the White Jets one as well) I wasnt a fan when they put the names on the back but I understand why they did it.

such a dumb comment. like a college you went to or live near isn't hard to comprehend. Liking a team based on your religion or ethnicity seems weird to me unless it for the Olympics. Like if you are Italian, I understand why you would cheer for Italy.

If you are Irish and proud of being Irish, that is great. But I never understood why it meant rooting for a team called the fighting Irish.

The thing that always bothered me about it is that you would have people saying they liked Notre Dame because they are Irish and proud of it. In almost every case if I questioned the person if they had ever been to Ireland the response was always no.

If you are really that proud of your heritage then it makes way more sense to me to go visit the country. That is what you would do if you really cared, not root for the Notre Dame football team.

It is a Catholic thing I think more than an Irish thing. I don't really think that many Irish people support ND but there support in the Catholic communities is very high. Not to mention they were one of the only teams that were on national TV meaning everyone could watch them.

Agree they were on TV virtually every week back when we only got a small handful of games each week. They were the team you could always see. And then on Sundays they had their own high light show.

Double digit underdog Spartans go into the Big House and knock off Michigan. Just absolutely devastating loss for Michigan to an inexperienced and much less talented Michigan State team. Mark Dantonio just absolutely owns Michigan. This wasn't supposed to happen with Harbaugh as coach, but Dantonio had the team fired up and he outcoached Harbaugh.

Watched it live over here in UK. That offence is so bad, feel for the defence keeping them in the game as much as they can.

    Terrible record that.

Least Miami Hurricanes who I have a soft spot for finally ended their seven game losing streak to FSU.

So today finally got around to watching my second love Miami @ FSU game, only seen ten minutes of highlights the day after.

I know people are gonna try to down play the win by saying FSU is bad but when you have the mental edge for so long and you finally break the spell then players REALLY start believing in the coaches, the team, and themselves. Getting rid of those FSU demons is big for those players for the rest of the season. For them there is no "same ole, same ole" season feeling they get after losing to FSU. They already believed they had a team to get to the ACC title game but now they REALLY believe.

My only problem is the run defense need to be better, A LOT better. For me your not a elite front 7 until you shutdown the run and force teams to under 3.4 yards per carry in rushing on the game. Do that the entire season and you'll be a top 10 defense every year. It a shame to because we have a great if not elite pass rush but since teams can run the ball on us why would competent offensives coordinator let us play to our strength? Our DL make more plays in the RUN game and need to clog the middle of the field so that RB have to bounce plays to the outside and LB have to play in their gaps and contain the outside/cutback runs and TACKLE for the love of goodness. STOP trying to hit stick every play. We can't just keep shooting up the wrong gaps chasing TFL plays. Giving up 1-2 yard gain is a win for the defense we are not going to have a TFL every play just do your job and they will come. We also need to be better on 1st down on defense. To much yards per play on first down giving teams easy 2nd and 3rd down. Win first down then offenses become predictable because 2nd down will likely be a run and 3rd a pass.

As for Rosier, the lad is good for 3 TD every game it seems like but will have a turnover seemingly every game. The coaches need to work on Rosier touch in terms of getting the passes over the LB while dropping it in the bucket to the WR from 25-30 yards out driving the football. Literally all his Interceptions came off overthrows 20+ yard post routes right when he had to get the throw over LBs.

I just hope the team doesn't think the season is over after beating FSU. They're just a block in the road a big block but a block nonetheless. It takes time but got to learn to be winners and play like it game in and game out.

Biggest moment for Syracuse football since McNabb was there, right? Great win for the program. Big fan of Dino Babers, I think he's going to be getting a look from Tennessee and whatever other big programs are looking for a coach after this season.

What a way to kick off what looked like it wouldn't be that interesting a weekend of college games. College football is just the best. Way, way better than the NFL. The craziness, the upsets, the drama, the rivalries, the pageantry, the teams changing every year, the crazy uniforms. Just the best sport there is.

Hockey, then college football; other than that, I wholeheartedly agree with this post. I love the addition of the playoff, think expanding it to 8 teams would be the perfect number; every single game is important, how one loss is sort of manageable but a second means you're out. The only beef I have with the sport is watching the top teams schedule glorified walkthroughs/scrimmages in the first month of the season, this must be addressed somehow.

An aside here, who else misses playing NCAA football on their consoles as much as I do? The franchise mode, where I took the reigns of a middle-of-the-road program and transformed them into a perennial contender because I recruited and won games was so much fun...

Hahaha yep I miss it too. Surprised a new game hasn’t come out since.

    Agreed.

Mad game that Miami one, good win in the end against a tough Georgia Tech team. A Miami Miracle happened again - and the Hurricanes are still perfect this season. Langham's 28-yard catch on a tipped ball that just happened to fall into his arms as he fell down on a fourth-or-else play to help set up the FG winner was crazy.

I loved the last NCAA Football game. I wish Madden would've adopted the "Start as a Coordinator, then get hired as a coach" mode for franchise.

100% disagree. Until teams stop getting screwed out of the playoffs and the subjective nature of picking teams to be in it, it will always be behind the NFL. Get a playoff system of 8 teams and I am with you.

This. The margin between the 8/9 seeds is a lot more logical/reasonable than that of the 4/5 seeds. Alternatively, each of the Power 5 Conference winners get a berth, in addition to three at-large bids.

Yeah, I would probably do an eight team playoff where the Power Five champions were guaranteed a spot. And then either three At Large or give the highest ranked Group of Five champion a slot along with two wild cards. But I like the idea of always making conference championships important. Make it hard for teams to get in, they either win their conference or can't have more than one loss.

My other proposed format has always been a sixteen team playoff where all eleven conference champions automatically qualify. And then five at large teams. Give it the feel of March Madness with the small conference schools getting their shot at the big boys in the first round. Think of how great the conference title games would be where teams are playing for spots in the playoff.

8 is the perfect number because last year you had a couple teams who had a legit gripe. With 8 teams, the 9th and 10th team can fuck off with their complaints.

Utah just scored a badass touchdown where the QB handed the ball off to the running back and ran a corner route and the HB found him for a touchdown. I've never see that before.

The game was NCAA 14, it came out in 2013 because that's how sports game titles work. I still play it, thankfully there are still people out there who update the rosters each year.

I loved the ability to download local college and high school teams and play them. Why can't they bring it back and just not use any likenesses of actual players?

Concern no one would buy it without the real players in there. And also a lot of schools and conferences have said they won't agree to let their trademarks be used (schools names, logos, uniforms) because of the lawsuit.

Madden this year had a story mode with some college games in it. Texas, Michigan, can't remember who the other teams are.

So what happened then with a lawsuit and why they stopped making them?

Here is an article from ESPN from Aug 2016 that covers much of it.

So the playoff is shaping up to be the winner of Alabama/Georgia (wouldn't rule out the loser getting in too), the winner of Miami/Clemson, Big Ten Champion (Ohio State/Penn State/Wisconsin), fourth spot up for grabs between the Big 12 Champion and Notre Dame.

If Miami wins the ACC but also loses to Notre Dame they are out so I don't agree that the winner of Miami/Clemson is in. If Notre Dame wins out then it pretty much means, SEC champ, Big 10 champ, Notre Dame, and Clemson if they win out or TCU if they win out and Miami wins the ACC but loses to Notre Dame.

Lets just simplify it down to it looks like 9 teams remain.

    Alabama
    Georgia
    Miami
    Clemson
    Ohio St
    Penn St
    Wisconsin
    TCU
    Notre Dame

Unless something crazy happens some combination of those 9 are going to get in. The scenarios we lay out can all be twisted. For instance Notre Dame wins out, Miami wins ACC, TCU loses to Oklahoma. . . now youd probably say its Big 10 winner with both SEC teams provided that game is close, and ND. Lets just leave it at 9 fighting for 4 spots at this point.

NC State as well. If they win the ACC with 1 loss in the first game with wins against Clemson and Notre Dame along the way makes them viable.

Id file that under the something crazy category.

I think you still get both SEC teams in over NC State provided its not a blow out. The Big 10 in over them too. That leaves the last spot and all the other teams losing. If Wisconsin beats Penn St in conference championship and thats Penn St only loss its hard to keep them out.

OK so if NC State has 1 loss and is the ACC champ with big wins along the way, it would be hard to keep them out over a PSU team that didn't win the big 10 especially if you are saying Miami and Clemson would get in if they win the ACC. I think NC State has just as much a chance as Miami and Clemson as they would have to beat them along the way, including Notre Dame.

Yes, the list is more than just 9 potential teams. There are other teams that would have a shot if the win out.

If Oklahoma plays better and wins out they would certainly have a chance, especially if Ohio State keeps winning. That win they had at Ohio State could end up being the best non conference win this season, that or Georgia over ND.

Also, look at a team like a Michigan State. It is a long shot, but if they beat PSU, Ohio State and say Wisconsin in the Big 10 title game that would be a nice resume with the only loss being to a potential playoff team in ND.

Again, I file those two under something crazy.

Michigan St. struggled to beat a shitty Minnesota team. I would consider it crazy for them to beat Pen St and Ohio St on back to back weekends.

Right but the list you had said 9 potential teams. NC State has just as good a shot as Miami, in my opinion

Right below the list I said unless something crazy happens. I file NC State over ND and Clemson on back to back weeks in that same category.

But Miami beating Notre Dame and Clemson as not crazy? Not sure how a top 15 team winning those games as "something crazy." Technically, Penn State beating Ohio State is something crazy considering the line is 7 points.

Yes, not as crazy because they are not back to back weeks and there is the chance that Clemson doesnt make it to the ACC championship game.

I'm a Michigan State fan and there is no chance in hell that we are getting into the playoff this year.
