    2024 Olympics

    Let's get psyched.

What events are you looking forward to? Which athletes are you excited to see compete? What other open-ended questions should I have included in the body of this post? Etcetera.

Been watching all the gymnastics trials as a family, as my girls do gymnastics and they love watching it.

my wife really likes the swimming and track events, so im getting myself into it. My big focus is on Archery. I’ve gotten super into archery the last few years and am so excited. I’m hoping Marcus D’Almeida cleans up against the Koreans.

Looking forward to swimming, surfing, and golf. I hope to be able to watch all three but fully expect to watch maybe 10 minutes total of the Olympics. Quite busy in the BigAl household.

Also looking forward to hearing Peyton Manning on commentary.

I did not realize that peyton manning will he commentating. That is awesome.

Ever since I was a kid watching Michael Johnson, the short distance sprints in t&f have been my favorite, but I enjoy watching just about any event in the summer Olympics.

I just like it all honestly. I will probably mostly catch highlights and such. Doubt I will be able to sit down and really enjoy anything for any length of time.

Favorite Olympics was ‘96 in ATL.

I was 13 and on vacation in Rhode Island. Every night we’d rush home from the beach to watch either the track and field or women’s gymnastics. My cousins and I, all the same age, loved those ladies.

That's the year I fell in love with it. I'm excited about all the new(er) events. Loved skateboarding and surfing additions and those should both be fun this year. Also interesting surfing is taking place all the way in Tahiti (I suppose it makes sense not to have surfing in Paris, but Tahiti still took me by surprise).

My gf is into diving and gymnastics. Summer olympics don't do much for me. I am disappointed there is no softball this time around. I guess if I had to pick a sport it would probably be table tennis.

Been bigging up the Olympics to my 12 year-old for the last few weeks. He wasn't really into sport 4 years ago, and obviously Covid etc.

Love the Olympics anyway, but have such fond memories of him being born as London 2012 started and loved sitting there for the best part of 2 weeks watching as much of it as I could.

First one for me was Barcelona '92 and Linford Christie! Fond memories.

Love the track and field events, the gymnastics and swimming mostly.

Plus, it's the only sporting event that my wife will happily watch.

    Can't wait.

I thought baseball and softball were back for this Olympics. Bummer I hadn't really looked at the list.

I know I said I love it all and I do but I will say my focus will probably be gymnastics, taekwondo, basketball, some track and field and beach volleyball. At the end of the day I will watch what I can of any of it.

I remember when I was a child, we were attending a 90th birthday party for my great uncle - this must have been in 1976. Bruce Jenner's Olympics were on and I remember being excited to watch them there. My great uncle started talking about how the Olympics were a lot of fun over the years, and he really missed that they didn't have some of the stuff they used to have - like live pigeon shooting.

I remember my sister asking him what was the best Olympics he ever saw, and he said no doubt, when Jesse Owens gave the middle finger to the Fuhrer. For years, based on how he had described it, I thought Jesse actually made that gesture, but I only later found out my great uncle didn't want to curse in front of us children.

They played softball last time. It's not it this time, then back again in 2028.

The athlete I'm pulling for most this time is Biles. If she makes a mistake (which can happen-it's gymnastics), I don't want to see all the dumb commentary that will happen.

Been seeing a lot of athletes on tik tok showing the cardboard beds they are sleeping on. Also showing the swag they got from Paris and the swag the various companies that support their country gave them.

I also love that Flavor Flav is sponsoring the women's water polo team.

This better not lead to a new season of Flavor of Love. I've put those days behind me.

The clips of stuff I have seen of him being a practices and the support he is giving them is fun. He even got in the water and scrimmaged with them.

Crazy start to the soccer tournament with a game suspended after fans rush field and game finished like 2 hours later with empty stadium and they reversed the goal that tied the game.

Me and the wife and in-laws were watching some judo yesterday. I don't really understand the rules but I dig it. 18 year-old Tara Babelfath getting DQ'd and flipping out and then coming back to medal was some good drama. Watched a little men's gymnastics, too, but it was just qualifying stuff so wasn't that invested but it was damn impressive.

What an ending to the bronze medal match between the US and Australia. US wins first medal in women's rugby.

I have never watched Rutby before, but that was so lit

Really enjoying Judo this year too. The 60KG men’s final was absolutely fantastic.

havent been able to catch much of the archery because it’s always on when I’m at work or something.

Japan/France basketball game was awesome. Japan should have won but the refs weren't having any of it.

So thrilled that Andy Murray is getting a better end to his career than I feared.

A bronze would be a fantastic achievement. Can't imagine that anything, other than injury, will come in the way of Nadal and Alcaraz winning gold on clay.

The synchronised diving is bloody impressive.

The 51 year from Turkey that silvered in a shooting event is awesome. He hasn't had any training or anything. Does wear any gear and shoots with one hand in the pocket. Love it.

The made up one? She is a woman. Born a woman, Lives as a woman. It is illegal to be transgender in her country. So no way they are going to send a transgender to the games. She has higher levels of testorone, She does have XY but there are various medical reasons why that can be and not be a biological male. So yeah again I ask the made up one because people are trying to stir shit up?

Guess Phelps needs to give back his medals and we need to cap the height of basketball players so everyone is equal size.

I haven't really found anything of substance to validate any claims either way. Even the ones in her favor state she is allegedly a female. Now let's be honest countries have overlooked things or bent rules in the past to get gold medals. It's definitely not unheard of. However, I'm just bringing it up because it is a big deal right now. She and another boxer have both been disqualified and taken out of competitions for their test results so it does seem to be a valid discussion.

Here record has also been muddled it seems. People are using different records to prove their points down both paths.

Educate yourself on Algeria and then think about how dumb your post sounds.

Swyer Syndrome. Look it up. You probably think Jamie Lee Curtis is also a man like some of these weirdos.

It wouldn't be the first person, male or female, to test high for testosterone.

People do take physicals at the Olympics. There was no mention of her being a biological male previously. Feel like it would have come up.

Seems like the outrage, outside of normal cheating/failed testing is rooted in clickbait.

I'm honestly embarassed at how easily this narrative has spun out of control and even people that I personally know who are smarter than this are falling for it hook line and sinker. I mean ffs is Cris Cyborg a man? Of course not. Most women say she hits harder than any other female they've fought. Some Italian chick gets her dome rocked, quits, and it's "Her opponent was a man!!" She never even implied her opponent was a man, had to publicly go out and say she never said or implied.

This isn't that MMA fighter Fallon who was a man that transitioned and was merking women until he fought skilled women who beat his ass.

Reading up on volleyball player Steven van de Velde. Yikes. In all the Netherlands they couldn't find a better player than him to rep the country?

People do take physicals at the Olympics. There was no mention of her being a biological male previously. Feel like it would have come up.

Seems like the outrage, outside of normal cheating/failed testing is rooted in clickbait.
Yeah it seems high clickbait. Like I said I see people on both sides mucking up things to make it seem like they are correct. I also think people are just over and over editing her Wikipedia as well.

The whole thing is actually ridiculous because I only saw it from a controversy perspective and then decided to actually look it up.

But for most people out there, it is being delivered as fact that she is trans when she is anything but and someone got pissed off they got punched hard.

You're not seeing anyone "Mucking up" on both sides, it's one side, your side Trump.

No. People are using only parts of her record to show she's not dominant in boxing. They are saying in her entire career she's only 11-5 therfore shes lost a lot of fights to other women. Her actual record is 42-9 which paints an entirely different picture.

Also Nash, I've already stated I'm not voting for Trump and voting for a 3rd party this year so please try to stop creating a narrative to make you feel tough.

It’s a shame the way of the world these days whenever a woman who is more physically built is doing well in the more physical sports, stuff like this throws controversy. I can just imagine what bullshit scrutiny Chyna would have come across these days.

In other news, three more golds for us in the showjumping. Watched the men’s synchronised diving earlier. Pretty close between us, China and the Mexico divers.

There is not really people mucking up both sides.

Her country doesn't allow transgender people. Her birth certificate and passport say female. They wouldn't allow that if she was trans. There are females that have XY for various medial reasons that don't make them men.

She has lost fights. She is beatable.

This is her second games. No issues last time. Didn't medal. Lost in quarters. Only issues due to the IBA which the IOC says is shady and not using. So that should also say something.

Total clickbait and shit and we are seeing people's true colors if we hadn't already seen them before.

This should not even be a thing.

I am glad to see the USWNT turns things around after the World Cup. I am not going to lie though and say I won't be sad if they lose to Brazil and Marta finally gets to win a major tournament before she retires.

As a KC Current fan, I am fine with Marta being denied. Lol

Nice to see the team round out. Feel like Emma is going to be the best thing that happened to our attack. Play just seems a lot more coordinated this go round.

TIL that USA do the medal count differently, perhaps for their own benefit (not that I mind, we'd come third using that reckoning).

I also may have fallen a bit in love with Femke Bol.

Watched sport climbing for the first time this year. It's so impressive. Folks just hanging off a wall by two fucking fingers, Spider-Manning their way up this 50 foot puzzle. Very dramatic stuff. Loved it.

Also watched the finals of some women's weight lifting which was really cool. Probably going to check out some of the men's yet, too.

Really want to see the break dancing.

    lol

    Glad we won.

I have a co-worker that fell in love with women's soccer earlier this year and chose the KC Current to support and watches just about every game.

All this crap about the bronze medal that Chiles won is brutal. I wish they would just give all 3 the medal. The judges screwed the pooch on this one and these women are suffering for it.

He made a good choice. They're a fun team to watch. And he needs to take in the stadium experience sometime
