Relinquishing the title

When Rhea bloody Ripley gave back her title on Raw, I couldn't help but think this was one of the more heartbreaking moments we've seen in a long time.

I can recall more than a few times when a champ had to give their title up, and it always sucks. Of the top of my head, Daniel Bryan, Roman Reigns, Finn Balor, Batista, Shawn Michaels, Naomi and Edge come to mind. Sonya Deville's tag title was a little different, but still awful.

The fact that Rhea has been so dominant for the past year, and has been both face and heel during this run, often on the same show, makes it hard to take.

With Daniel Bryan, Edge, and HBK, when they gave up their title we didn't know if they'd ever come back at all, so I will separate those occasions.

We expected the others to come back, as we expect Rhea to return, and when she does, the pop will be enormous. But until then, is it the fact that this is still so fresh, or am I wrong in thinking this is the most heartbreaking title relinquishment of all?

Shawn Michaels was the only one that affected me.

Edge having to retire and give up the belt kind of hit me. He was on top of the mountain and doing so well.

Balor having to give up the Universal title sucked so hard because they had just brought him up and clearly they were going to push him hard before the injury.

Felt bad for Sonya finally getting the tag title and then getting injured.

Balor's was rough. They just introduced the new title, and he gets hurt. They were strapping the rocket to Balor. It's weird when you go back and think about all that happened from Summerslam to Mania. Imagine Goldberg beating Balor for the title instead of Owens.

I remember as a young teen when Shawn vacated the IC title after getting beat up and thinking that was rough. Then fast forward he vacates the World title in 1997 like damn son lol
