    2024 NFL thread

Well, it's about time to start one of these again.

Recycling questions from last year -

KC got the first back-to-back SuperBowl victories since the Patriots a score ago. Now, is it fair to ask if Mahomes and KC can threepeat? It's hard to bet against them as they seem to put it together when it counts.

Will Joe Burrow get some help? Not enough.

Will Aaron Rodgers play? How will the Jets manage to be the Jets, and mess up their season?

New questions for this year -

Who will be the first coach fired?

Will Denver regret taking the hit to pay Russell Wilson to play for someone else? Where will Russ end up?

Will running backs ever get respected?

Will the Patriots nab Marvin Harrison Jr? I sure hope so.

Will Tom Brady do a good job in the booth?

Will Dallas win a playoff game?

Will Detroit take a step back, stay the same, or take another step forward?

Aaron Donald retiring. Didn't see that coming, but good for him, going out still at the top of his game.

Steelers making my head spin. Not sold on Caleb Williams after seeing how a good Notre Dame proceeded to own him. I can only imagine the field day some of the Defensive coaches especially Detroit will have with him.

He gets released before the season starts, I bet. Not sure he’s interested in a practice roster spot.

I have to wonder if he's hoping he doesn't get medically cleared, so he can keep the full guaranteed $55 million he just got as part of the contract extension.

Did I miss this thread getting pruned or something? A mere 14 posts in the thread?

Guessed wrong on the Chargers/Texans, thought the Harbaugh factor would get Herbert over. The California wildfire situation obviously affected the players and coaches in the Chargers organization. Two pretty boring games today, hopefully tomorrow is more exciting. Pittsburgh really needs to upgrade at QB.

Bills, Vikings, Commanders and Packers to win to close out this weekend.

Tomlin should have been let got years ago and its only now that people call for his head. He should not have been given an extension last year.

Would I rather the Lions face the Vikings or the winner of this game between the commanders and the Buccaneers? Of course, I'm assuming the Vikings will win.

It may have gotten louder this year, but it’s hardly the first time it’s come up.

Steelers are in an odd spot where, obviously the owner is very loyal to his guys, and for that he is rewarded with many winning seasons. Tomlinson still hasn’t had a sub .500 record. They are very consistent, and always in the mix. However, they’re never quite good enough to be thought of as a favorite, and ironically, that very consistent winning record hurts them massively when it comes to offseason acquisitions, both in terms of draft position and free agent signings.

Which means that ownership has to be comfortable with knowing that if they let Mike go, they’re likely to have a couple seasons or more of losing record football, before it potentially gets better. It’s essentially “Do I break up with this girl to try to benefit and improve my own personal being, or stay with the girl that has been loyal, never let me down, but maybe is a 6-7 instead of an 8-10?”

He's definitely a victim of his own success, but I think it's more he needs help more than needs replacing. Getting this team to the off-season in 4 of the last 5 seasons has been hugely overacheiving. They kind of suck on offence and have since AB. Get him a good OC, a quarterback and some weapons and give him a shot at it. When he had that he was knocking on the door, without it the Bengals and Ravens will bury them in Lamar and Burrow's primes.

Not a lot of competitive football those first 4 games. The expanded playoff format can make you forget there's a big gulf between the real contenders and the fringe ones. It also showed the beauty of sudden improvement, with Washington getting to 13 wins after drafting second amidst years of failure and decades since having a franchise QB. The Texans too were buried with that Deshaun contract that the Browns got them out of. It is literally just the Jets that haven't been good the last 10 years, such is the league. Even the Bears had that Khalil Mack defence. The Jets had 4 snaps of hope .

I wonder if he would step away from a HC position to going into a more upper management area like GM or A-GM... unless they are content with the guys they have there.

I know what its like, on both a pro and college level, to have success but not win the big one. Its nice to always be at/near the top of the division/conference, but you have to think of the end goal. Superbowl or National Championship. Going to be a hard road for them if they dont see sudden success from what they have ( at least 12-5 with a couple playoff wins) or some dumpster fire years. Either or would help them in the situation they are in. Good years will show potential FA they are just missing 1/2 pieces to get to the big game. Bad years will bring in better new blood from the draft.

While im not a Stealers fan, I can see how it sucks for them as an organization and fanbase.

I don't think they've been giving him good enough personnel to give him much of a chance, and some of it stems from not getting assets when they could. They got a third and a fifth for AB and Bell combined. Cycled through James Conner and Juju with no return. Drafted a bust in Kenny Pickett. Built a QB room on the cheap this year. They just haven't been aggressive in recruitment and it's cost them getting over the hump. The defence is great but gone are the days of that being enough to win championships. They're the boxer with good footwork fighting heavy hitters every week, they're going to eventually get caught.

Anybody think the Chiefs might slip up on Saturday? I think they'll regret taking the Broncos game completely off. They won't have played since Christmas. That Houston D isn't one to be coming in rusty against. Resting players has its benefits, see the Packers losing Christian Watson, but it could come back to bite them. Even just that extra 4 days between Christmas and Sunday, they've been off a long time.

I feel for Darnold, can't see him getting as big of an opportunity after the last 2 games. The Vikings could tag him, but would it be worth it over just taking another bridge QB if McCarthy isn't ready? 40 odd million is a big hit when Russ, Fields or even Rodgers (completing the Favre path) would be available for cheap even if they go down that route. He may benefit from a poor draft class, as he's absolutely better for the Titans or Giants than Sanders or Ward. He can play. If the Titans can pick up a couple of firsts for that #1 pick I'd be happy. Take Darnold on a 3 year and the Raiders 2025 and 2026 firsts, watch the Sanders circus blow up, rebuild.

Darnold definitely would have earned a much bigger contract had he played even just okay last night, but he was awful the last two weeks. I expect him to now be looking for a solid backup QB role, instead of getting starter money. I doubt the Vikings re-sign him after that performance.

Pittsburgh is likely the best landing spot for him. They're again in that spot where the quality at QB won't be there when it's time to draft, particularly this year. Would he be a step up from Russ? I'd say more upside at this point, and they need improvement at the position. I could see Indy or Tennessee as an option too, given Richardson just isn't a passer, and Levis sucks.

I could see Tennesse taking him as a one year starter if they take a QB #1 overall.

Detroit is getting picked clean. I don't know who could replace Ben Johnson or why that bunghole decide to go to Chicago. They should make a rule that coordinators on playoff teams can't be signed until after the Super Bowl. Or interviewed for that matter.

I’d be curious to know how in-depth a HC interview is. Like does it take all day to do multiple panel interviews with the owner and GM and the various support staff? Or is it a couple hours? I wonder how a coordinator on a playoff team makes time to be interviewed.

But also it’s the name of the game. NFL coaching trees are sprawling and constantly added to. I use them as an example to demonstrate what I’m trying to do with my team at work, coaching people up to managers so they can, in turn, coach other people up to managers.

It would be fine if they just did it after the Super Bowl. A lot of lions fans feel that Ben Johnson and Aaron Glenn were preoccupied with their interviews more than the actual game.

I am not at the hate level of the 2000s Patriots, but boy is KC getting there. The members of household not me are very pleased about the Eagles.

Two really bad calls against the Bills - the 4th and 1 call when Allen clearly broke the plane to get the first down but had the LJ on the Chiefs end of the field overrule the other who said that he did get the first:

And how in the hell is this even called a catch when the ball clearly hit the ground with nobody having complete possession - it should have been an incomplete pass.

While the first threepeat in league history would be cool, I’d rather not.

Go Eagles, win one for Saquon.

I hope the contest comes down to a penalty that favors Kansas City. Every NFL fans heads would explode with rage and I won't be alone in my misery. LOL.

Seems like the allegations have been floating around a while, they just haven't been as comprehensive as yesterday's article. I know it's more of a power thing, but why don't these rich, famous guys just go out and find somebody willing to fuck rather than stroking their half-limp dicks on trained professionals in the middle of the afternoon? So weird. What a loser.

I'm with you, like I understand that it's not just solely about these dudes getting their rocks off. They're wealthy and fit and successful and could have pussy lined up around the block at their choosing. It's about ego or power or some kind of kink I certainly can't categorize. But at the end of the day, wtf? I'd actually love to hear a true blue admission from someone like this trying to explain their sincere thought process.

Also kinda interesting at this point that there are no charges being filed. You'd think if the evidence is there from any/all of the accusers that they'd be trying to string this dude up for more than just a gossip story. Civil at minimum and wring him dry, if not going for a full on criminal indictment. But I also don't doubt Tony Buzbee is in the middle of popping up around the corner from every one of these women as we speak telling them just how much he can help.

Who's watching the Super Bowl? I just don't think I can. I don't want to see either team win it because I hate both fan bases and I don't want to see Kansas City get another title.

I'm quite a big fan of football, of course I'm watching the superbowl.

I have no vested interest in either team but as a fan who'll be awake and available while that game is on I'd imagine it next to impossible not to want to see how the outcome unfolds.

And for what it's worth I don't think the league is 'rigged'. I've never seen/heard anyone who does believe so outline just how the mechanics of that would actually work in real time either. I believe there are biases and dumb reasons why people can be influenced to make poor decisions, and I certainly believe that humans are perfectly imperfect and can make completely incorrect judgements/calls. But I don't believe whatsoever the league front office is deciding the victor. The risk/reward is in no way whatsoever worth it and those in charge absolutely know that.

I can’t wait for the Super Bowl. Huge football fan so I’m damn sure watching the last NFL game for six months.

I don’t care who wins. Either KC makes history or Saquan gets a ring after a hell of a season.

Haven’t put any money on it yet but I’m thinking KC and the over. Maybe a parlay of the over, Saquan to get a TD, and something else based on his yards.

Its impressive to see the run that KC has been on the past several years and with Mahomes still young and in his prime, they'll likely be at/near the top for years to come. And with a solid head coach like Andy Reid who has led multiple teams to the big game. happy to see him still being a success.

Also glad to see Philly getting back to the big game, so quickly after losing a couple years ago. Would have been nice to see Saquon go for the record, but understand resting him and preventing a potential injuries. Now if Jalen Hurts can just play a solid game and keep the ball safe.

Been a fan of the Eagles my entire life. No doubt Im gonna be cheering them on this time around as well.

For those saying no stake in the game and dislike both teams so not watching... thats on you. But i like BigAl's take, last game for 6 months. Why wouldnt you watch it and hope for a good, entertaining game.

I’ll probably stay up for the first half only because I forgot to book Monday off this year (game ends around 4am my time). Secretly rooting for the Eagles as the underdogs, but prepared for a KC three peat. Crazy to think with all the dominant teams throughout SuperBowl history, nobody’s ever done that before.
