Wilfred’s Debate 2023 Sign-Ups/Discussion Thread

Just putting this out as a feeler for now to see if anyone wants to do it this year. Happy to run it.

16 participants would be great, but can re-jig if need be to make it smaller. 3 judges would be ideal (If need be, I’ll take on one of the judging roles if needed). For those just signed up and less familiar with this concept, here’s an example tie of last year’s final. The preceding ties will be easier on the rules but just to give a flavour of how this works:

Generally the wrestling debate topics are WWE/F related past and present but occasionally do incorporate other federations to mix it up a little.

Anyway if you’re interested in signing up as a participant or judge put your name on the list below. Looking to start about September/Autumn time if enough interest:

Just updated the first post as asking for 16 participants might be a stretch with activity. If we get a minimum of 8 participants and 3 judges then will do something. Otherwise if there’s not enough interest, will just let this sink to the bottom and leave it. Will see how it goes.

If you want to judge, go for it. If you have no knowledge, that’s okay as you’ll have a fresh perspective on which argument that sways you.

Not to mention knowledge of wrestling is almost secondary you just have to recognize a good debate. We saw Uncle Phil from Fresh Prince somehow win an argument to be GM despite being dead.

Yeah tie topics were also randomly drawn so unlucky bud but I’m sure you can think of something!

Also the weirdest thing. I was trying to get templates for the rules from a tie last year to save myself some effort but each thread I tried to open came up “Internal Server Error” for some bizarre reason so had to type the first one from scratch then copy the templates over. Bit of a pain in the bum that was.

Yup yup. I would’ve also done.

I think Phineas was the better talker though. Especially loved his Mankind impression playing Fake Mankind in the “Have a Bad Day” skits during the HHH feud. It was dead on. I believe it was Foley’s idea to use him IIRC when he knew how good it was.
