Hi, I'm mth. You may remember from such Fiction Fights as this one, where my R1 opponent was a homicidal fruit-headed spook who tucked tail and ran after only one post. Behold the power of Roadrunner. As that battle never really got off the ground, it's not surprising that a lot of my ammo is going to carry over here but I will try to freshen up its presentation, at least. A few key points as to how ol' Beep Beep is going to race his way to the finish of Fiction Fight:

SPEED – Bad news, I've just found some new estimates that put his MPHs in the quadruple (~4,000) to quintuple digits (~26,000 mph conservatively). But again, bird doesn't even need to go that kind of speed to out-pace just about anyone in this tourny. Even his lower numbers like 200-600 mph are going to leave just about everyone struggling to lay a finger on his feathers. Add to that his precision in turning and stopping at these speeds and he'll easily be out maneuvering the competition who'll be breaking their necks just trying to keep eyes on him.

LUCK & BRAINS – As I explained in R1, reality has a way of bending in Roadrunner's favor. The laws of physics are thrown out the window as he runs into paintings (or causes his adversary to) and defies gravity (or the landscape around him does). Elaborate traps malfunction, fail, and backfire, sometimes without him having to do anything, sometimes due to his active cleverness. And he seems to understand how these rules work as he runs into those paintings without any hesitation or stops and instantly assesses, reacts, and responds to threating situations.

EXPERIENCE – His daily routine is literally avoiding being murdered. His life is a Fiction Fight. You might say, “But it's always the same coyote!” Sure, but the methods are constantly changing. He is faced with new tricks, traps, and scenarios at every turn, in a constant state of adapting and surviving fresh unexpected challenges.

ENVIRONMENT – We find ourselves at Snake Mountain. Roadrunner's habitat is strikingly similar: winding roads, rocky peaks, cliffs, crags, rocks, and boulders are all extremely familiar to him, things he regularly has to traverse, avoid, and manipulate to remain alive and often leave his adversary in a world of hurt. This is like a home field advantage.

Jovvi once again finds himself in a location he does not fully recognize. It is a place where he notices the darkness that plagues this land. With that being noticed Jovvi decides that anyone or anything he sees is likely evil and must be destroyed for this area to even have a chance to recover.

With that thought in his mind Jovvi uses his Scholar soul crystal and summons Eos to help him.

With Eos with him he’ll have no issues healing any wounds that occur to him and it also allows him to focus on defeating any enemy he sees. With these abilities he will also be able to generate plenty of shields that will protect him from most harm that could even happen.

Jovvi does notice that this environment is very different from what he is used to, but he figures he can still use his knowledge from all the places he has been to make this location work in his favor. Being able to adapt is one of the Warrior of Light’s strengths after all.

My opponent's opening post is that he has a fairy with him that helps him heal and he has some shields for protection. That doesn't give me much to go on. As I am not familiar with WoL, I read the previous fight. I found myself not really understanding what he brings to the table as it seemed more about how well he countered his opposition's points without really explaining in depth what he can do. He says, “I can use Overpower” without a description of what Overpower actually is/does. I looked at his bio and it also seems sorely lacking in much specific information. I clicked the links provided there and while there are a plethora of things in his arsenal that have fancy names and a bunch of numbers relating to hit points and damage and such, what are they? How do things like Overpower actually work? Is he swinging weapons? Shooting projectiles? Casting spells? The specific mechanics of these abilities need to be presented for me to attempt countering or they are merely abstract concepts that can simply be put forth unchallenged, leaving me at an unfair disadvantage. If something like Berserk involves swinging a sword, I can address how Roadrunner could avoid that but if it's just a bunch of stats and numbers, I'm pretty fucked, ya dig?

Assuming some of these things involve weapons/projectiles I will remind you that Roadrunner has a wealth of experience being attacked with bows, cannons, explosives, catapults, giant robots, flying saucers, etc.. His sheer speed could easily avoid melee attacks and projectiles while his uncanny good fortune would cause anything more involved to fail or backfire:

His familiarity with this type of terrain would give him advantage in utilizing Snake Mountain both defensively and offensively, as much hide-n-seek as dropping rocks on the unsuspecting. A simple sudden stop while being pursued and WoL plummets to his demise:

Also, given how illusory images function in his favor, for all we know the various fanged faces here might very well clamp their rocky jaws closed on his opponent should he be lured there:

Hey! One time Roadrunner ran straight through a boulder, splitting and shattering it. Another time, straight through an aircraft-grade steel plate (and the coyote behind it). Seems worth mentioning 'cuz you're a man in a metal suit, yeah? Maybe he just runs through your ass, I dunno...

Roadrunner appears to be confused about what I can actually do as a Scholar. Yes, you got my faerie right but that was it. You can also very clearly see that I am using robes and a Codex as a way to cast my spells. You seem to think I am using my Warrior abilities and armor.

I guess if you want to get extremely technical my spells could be considered projectiles but besides that Roadrunner has never once gone against magic. All of your previous encounters with that coyote are essentially meaningless due to that.

You think you’d be able to drop a rock on me? As if, my hearing would more than likely notice that. And in the case that does make no sound you forget that I am on the lookout for trouble, I’m in my fighting state where I am watching all around me for danger as if I was back in my jungles. You also forget all the sound that you make which would let me know your general direction.

One more thing about this environment, you may have an advantage because this is very similar to your home. But that doesn’t mean I’ve not done my own fair share of fighting in mountainous or deserted areas. Thanalan is essentially all desert, same as Gyr Abania. I am very resourceful as the Warrior of Light, I’d find a way to make this environment work to my advantage. Be it finding ways to climb, keep myself hidden, or finding ways to use the environment as a weapon.

Illusory images wouldn’t even work on me because I could just send Eos first to see what happens. I’m very cautious in enemy territory.

Besides, all I need is you to get within my range for a fraction of a second to use my Swiftcast and Repose combo. Swiftcast to make my next spell instant and Repose to place my target to sleep. After that I could just cast Biolysis on you which literally the death and dissolution of a living organism. Get that off and I can just focus on staying alive while you slowly die.

I was ignorant because the Scholar link is a page like I described, all snazzy names and numbers and stats with no real description of what anything is or how your character actually does the damn stuff. I only mentioned 'Overpower' as an example from the previous fight and because the information on your Job Guide page similarly doesn't say what any of it actually is. But cool, it's spells.
Spells take time to cast. Even if you do Swiftcast to make the next one instant, Swiftcast itself is not, nor is anything you might do before it. You do not have time. Roadrunner moves at MPHs in triple, quadruple, or possibly quintuple digits. You're getting set up, starting to mumble your incantations, and a purple blur runs clean through you. BTW, Roadrunner can probably teleport as there are multiple instances of him appearing immediately behind Wile despite being trapped under a basin or being left in an entirely different location.

But OK, let's talk about magic: Roadrunner's “magic”, the uncanny fortune that makes reality bend in his favor. You mention sending your fairy ahead to test situations...much like how Wile tests his contraptions ahead of time and scouts locations...only for everything go spectacularly wrong when it counts. Your fairy will report safety only for disaster to be found.
I mentioned things like the paintings because they show how nothing goes as planned/expected when Roadrunner is around. Your spells function properly in your universe but Roadrunner is a living monkey-wrench that'll fuck up the gears of any plan, no matter how mystic. A simple catapult will repeatedly defy physics to hit Wile solely because he is trying to use it on Roadrunner. Goddamn gravity doesn't work properly (see bridge GIF in first post) in his favor, causing something literally impossible, to harm his attacker.
Expectations and intentions have a propensity to result in damn-near their exact opposite when directed at Roadrunner. Why wouldn't your spells follow suit? What is magic but that which defies reality? Your magic can be countered by his. Similarly, I don't need to drop a rock on you because you'll drop it on yourself. When Wile tries to use the environment against him, it falls under the same spell. You mention your spell range...maybe he'll just stay out of it and let things backfire in his favor until you unintentionally off yourself?

Sorry to tell you but Swiftcast is an instant spell. Besides that, I can use it every minute so I can be very patient if needed. You say I have no time, but as I said, my Swiftcast and Repose combo would be used to let me get more than one spell at a time cast on you. My Biolysis is instant cast as well so who cares about the speed you can go; you just need to go past me once and I can cast the spell.

Now for my fairy, it can’t get super far away from me so no real scouting can be done with it. You also act like I would have some major contraption that would end up failing like it always does with that coyote. I’m not using anything besides my own magical spells. You even mention offing myself but that is impossible with my Scholar abilities. I have plenty of ways to keep myself alive in case of anything improbable occurs. I have Physick which heals me, Adloquium which heals me and also places a barrier around me preventing damage. I have my Lustrate for a quick easy instant heal, and even Expedient for a nice movement speed increase for me. That also ignores everything my fairy can do for me also. Eos can place a nice heal over time on me with Whispering Dawn and also heals me constantly with Embrace. That also all ignores my ability to transform Eos into Seraph which adds a shield or increases the amount of healing she does to me with every ability she casts.

Now let us imagine that for some reason Biolysis does end up on me when I cast it. I can just Esuna it off because that removes a detrimental effect from me. Overall, your entire plan is just sit and wait for me to kill myself which is near impossible with all the heals I have. I can be very patient when it comes to getting my target. In the end, I will end the existence of the bird.
