Fiction Fight Round 1 Match 8: 3puppies vs. Listo

    Two fighters emerge.

Their feats are fictional. Their conflict will be real.

    @3puppies summons Marshall Matt Dillon

A decorated Marshall and noted marksman and gunfighter

Because of Arness's large (6 foot, 7 inches) physical presence, most of Matt's adversaries seemed overmatched unless there were several of them. In any event, only the toughest or the most foolhardy individuals dared challenge him to a fair fight. On a few occasions, he even proved himself capable of defeating burly bare-knuckle prize fighters, and he once noted that he had done a bit of boxing while serving in the Army. On television, Matt tended to be a man of fewer words, which can largely be attributed to the fundamental fact that television is a visual medium as opposed to the radio. Since the audience can see what is happening, there is less need to describe surroundings or events through the use of dialog. Arness's Matt thus naturally evolved into a "strong, silent" type of character who tended to act rather than talk at length about possible courses of action.

Perhaps the best measure of Matt Dillon's endurance and physical prowess is how he survived the dozens of gunshot wounds and other assaults on his person during the 20-year run of the television series. In 2013, Marshall Trimble, the board president of the Arizona Historical Society and vice president of the Wild West History Association, documented all of Dillon's wounds from gunfire as well as his other brushes with death. According to Trimble, Dodge City's federal marshal was shot no less than 56 times, knocked unconscious 29 times, stabbed on three occasions, and poisoned once.

Jovvi has been to a world flooded by light, a world destroyed due to the void. Heís been to the edge of the universe to save the world from the Final Days with his allies. He has ended the Dragonsong War. While everything has been with allies, he can still fend for himself. He is no stranger to odd worlds due to all of this. He tries his linkpearl to see if he can contact any of his closest friends and allies from The Source.

    ďHello, can anyone read me?Ē

    Silence.

He is on his own it seems. No matter. He equips his Summoner soul crystal and with his trusty summons he is truly never alone.

He notices a large jungle in the distance and a city in the other direction.

He figures he got summoned here for some reason, and whatever it is cannot be good. He needs to plan. Does he go towards the jungle away from the city where he knows he can live using his Wood-Warder past. Or does he go to the city looking for help or attempt to help anyone he sees.

Jovvi summons his Carbuncle to try and scout ahead a little bit before making a hasty decision. While Carbuncle is looking around Jovvi finds vegetation and hides.

He has to survive and get back to The Source. So many people depend on the Warrior of Light for hope and he canít wait to tell Gíraha all about his adventure.

If Jovvi sees anyone who needs help he might be tempted to aid them as the adventurer he is.

Wakanda was in turmoil, as they had lost their king, the Black Panther. They were on the brink of invasion from all kinds of people/races/creatures, some of whom were only interested in taking Wakanda’s resources. Wakanda knew violence was coming, and they needed a lawman while they sorted out their political and family issues.

They needed someone who was trustworthy, who understood the importance of treating people with respect, while always upholding the law. Someone who would always do the right thing, who had an innate sense of whether an adversary was trying to exploit another citizen. Someone who instantly commanded respect not just by his physical presence, but how he carried himself.

Someone who is no stranger to city life, nor to the vast open plains, nor mountain terrain.

Someone who dealt fairly with everyone he came across, whether citizen or savage, slave or free man, farmer or outlaw, but who never hesitated from what he always knew he had to do. Violence was a part of everyday life where he came from, and he never shied away from it when necessary.

They needed one man, US Marshall, Matt Dillon.

Yes Wakanda has had some recent turmoil. Yes, they may be at risk of invasion soon, but why is that? Because they decided to let themselves be known. If they absolutely want an outsider to help them would it not make more sense to go for the person who has saved two different worlds? Helped end an over thousand-year war?

Essentially stopped the end of life as it was known by stopping his worldís Final Days. Yes Jovvi has never been alone for those but that proves he will always help a world in need and is good at making allies with those he comes across.

Jovvi has the tools to be a major help if Wakanda wants it. He has his magic that he can use and the primal egiís he can summon. He even has Phoenix that can help rejuvenate his allies. Jovvi and his allies have no interest in the resources from Wakanda. While the Marshall comes from the US, a nation that very well could invade for the precious resources this country has. Marshall Matt Dillon even works for the government by being a Marshall. He is more likely to be thrown out immediately before he could even get a word in!

Yes, both of us want the best for people but they would easily see you as an untrustworthy person. If it did happen that Jovvi and Matt crossed paths and a fight ensued Jovvi would win with ease. He has a Demi-Bahamut. Which can use Akh Morn and Wyrmwave.

Nice try, but you can’t compare the US from Marshall Dillon’s era to the US that may or may not be attempting to exploit Wakanda’s resources. Marshall Matt Dillon will follow the law, and he quite famously understands jurisdiction – his interaction with Wild Hog and the Cheyenne demonstrate this all too well. He understands his role, and the army’s role, and how to keep them separate.
Gunsmoke: Matt Dillon and Wild Hog of the Cheyanne - Bing video

Marshall Dillon is as good a good guy as they come. And his longevity and success rate have been unmatched. Marshall Dillon didn’t come looking for a fight but he won’t back down. He doesn’t have to draw first to win. Marshall Dillon always wins, always comes out the hero. This won’t change here.

As for your character, I must confess I am not all that familiar with the Final Fantasy series. But two seconds of research tells us that you rely on magic. And of course, Magic is unreliable, especially in Wakanda. This comes from T’Challa himself. Vibranium is said to have mystic abilities, and T’Challa himself had to use mysticism to fight Dr Doom in the Doomwar story arc. But T’Challa never uses magic as it is unreliable.

Further, your first post demonstrates that you had no idea as to why you were in Wakanda. You are immediately uncomfortable because you must have sensed that the Vibranium was impacting your magic.

So you’re basically powerless here. You may be a good guy, too, but without magic, you’re no match for Marshall Matt Dillon.

I explained why Marshall Dillon was invited, because he represents everything they need at the moment.

I’d say “Get Out of Dodge”, but since we’re playing elsewhere, I’ll have to change it to “Get Out of Wakanda”.

Marshall Dillon will have no problem dismissing you, but as you say, we are much more likely to become allies than enemies. You'll have no problem going on your way and I hope you can help somewhere else.

You claim my magic is unreliable in Wakanda yet you forget that Scarlet Witch had no issues with her magic when she used it. So, if itís supposed to be unreliable why wasnít hers? It appears Vibranium can amplify magic instead of making it unreliable and in that case the Vibranium becomes unstable, not the magic. So, in the end, my magic is more than fine and nothing is stopping me from using my summons and the spells they grant me to defeat you if need be.

Even if I was without my ability to summon my egis or demi-primals I would be more than fine in taking you down. I was a Wood-Warder for my people before I got my soul crystal that helps me in learning and using these spells.

As a warder I had to protect my village in the jungle from all intruders and native threats alike. While I was doing that, I was allowed no help with anything, I had to survive there myself and make my own armor and weapons. I could easily find the materials to make a weapon to best you.

If I must bring the full might of Bahamut, Titan, Garuda, Ifrit, and Phoenix against you I will.

If we have to fight to get one of us to leave I will easily win because how could you possibly survive any of my summons? You canít survive an Akh Morn, an Inferno, an Aerial Blast, or even an Earthen Fury. There is even the fact that when I summon Garuda or Titan I instantly cast Emerald Rite or Topaz Rite that can be combed with Mountain Buster, Ifrit letting me get right up in your face making you unable to shoot. If it comes down to combat I will emerge victorious due to my summons.

Until I can get myself back home I cannot leave. This place appears to be very advanced and Iím sure they could find a way to get me back. In exchange I would let them study my soul crystal to learn how it works and maybe they could use that knowledge themselves to better protect their nation from intruders.

For those we have lost, for those we may yet save.

If you want to bring up the Scarlet Witch, you're the one who is forgetting. You can't say her magic works fine because SHE'S A VILLAIN. You don't know how your magic would work, if at all, in Wakanda, or most importantly, what the consequences would be. Do you really want to end up being the bad guy? Bad guys stand no chance against Marshall Matt Dillon.

I kind of wish we had a few more rounds to discuss this, because Marshall Matt Dillon doesn't need magic to come out as the victor (but he has, on multiple occasions magically fired off 8 or 10 shots from his six-shooter, never having to bother removing any bullets from his belt).

What you're also forgetting is complete dominance of the US Marshall. His instinctive reflexes and speed allow him to defeat any opponent before they finish off their first move. The moment you begin to summon whatever against Dillon, well simply put, you're dead, game over for you. And Marshall Dillon would rest easy, knowing he had fairly warned you.

You forget how ridiculously quick Matt Dillon was at the draw. Let me remind you

Matt Dillon in Gunsmoke was a REALLY fast draw - YouTube

And it wasn't just the incredible speed, but more importantly, the accuracy.

Even in situations when his gun had been soaked in a river, or he had taken it off and he had to result to hand-to-hand combat, his physical prowess would mean he could defeat you without him having to break a sweat.

Congratulations, Listo. And thank you for what turned out to be a lot more fun than I expected.

I am not at all familiar with any of the Final Fantasy stuff, but it was clear your Jovvi character is also on the right side, and it was hard to argue against that.

Thanks, too, to the judges for their thoughts/votes. As I had waited for the votes to be posted, I re-read this thread quite a few times. I think I may have done a slightly better job incorporating the background of Wakanda here, but you certainly had me with the better use of your character's more varied abilities. And you had posted better images than I found for Marshall Dillon.

Marshall Dillon will tip his ten-gallon hat to you, and will happily return, unscathed, to Dodge.

Also just so you know. My summons besides the Carbuncle are instant cast, so no real need to stand around waiting.

But yeah was very fun. I had a freak out moment searching online for anything relating to magic not working in Wakanda.
