Fiction Fight Round 1 Match 7: kdestiny vs. Jarrod1983

    Two fighters emerge.

Their feats are fictional. Their conflict will be real.

    @kdestiny brings Corvo Attano

    Corvo Attano from Dishonored

Attributes: Is a very skilled fighter. Fought on the streets growing up and became an experienced swordsman through his dueling experiences and his experience as the Royal Protector.

He is also quiet and keeps very much to himself.

He is able to take torture as well. He went through six months of it after being accused of assassinating the Empress (who was also his lover).

He comes equipped with a sword, crossbow, grenades, pistol, spring razor, and sticky grenades

Special Abilities: Corvo obtained several abilities from his time with the Outsider's Mark.

Blink- Increaeed movement speed in any direction. Allows Corvo to move 15 meters instantly.

Dark Vision- Allows Corvo to see how much sound he makes, beings (either dead or alive), their sight cones, as well as resources or machinary/traps

Devouring Swarm- Corvo can summon rats to attack and eat corpses. Includes variations increasing the swarm (Greater Swarm), Rat Piper (Swarm follows) and Twin Swarms (Two Smaller Swarms)

Possession- Can possess rats, fish, hounds, and humans to attack

Windblast- Summons a wind that can send enemies as well as projectiles away.

    Bend Time
    - Can freeze time for 8 seconds and pluck objects out of mid air.

    Vitality
    - Regenerative health

Agility- Faster running, climbing and swimming

    @Jarrod1983 brings Martin Riggs

    Name: Martin Riggs
    Height: 5'10"
    Weight: 165 pounds

-Martin Riggs joined the U.S. Army at age 19.

-Eventually became a member of the U.S. Army Special Forces receiving specialized training in weaponry and hand-to-hand combat.
-Most of Riggs' time in the Special Forces was spent in Vietnam, where he served as an assassin under the CIA's "Phoenix Project" directive.
    - Riggs became a member of the Los Angeles Police Department, eventually reaching the rank of Captain.

-The Beretta 92FS is Riggs' service weapon of choice but is capable of handling any weapon.

-Riggs has a loose right shoulder he can dislocate easily. Riggs can re-set it at will by slamming it into a wall or other hard objects.
-During his off time Riggs enjoys watching television, particularly Looney Tunes and The Three Stooges.

-Riggs loves dogs and doesn't mind eating dog biscuits on occasion.

-Driven to the brink with grief and anger over the death of his wife, he regularly puts himself (and anyone else near him) in harm's way, secretly hoping someone will put him out of his misery, something he has been unable to do himself. This total disregard for his safety gives him an edge over his enemies, turning him into a "lethal weapon".

Their field of battle: Citadel (Mass Effect - Game 1 time period)

The Citadel is a massive construct, similar in shape to a pentagram. It consists of a central ring 7.2 kilometers in diameter, from which five arms protrude, each 43.6 km long and 330m thick.

The station is capable of closing in on itself, via the convergence of its five arms, transforming it into a long, impenetrable cylinder. However, the Citadel is only closed in times of emergency, and normally the station retains its 'open' appearance.

The central ring and five arms are home to the Presidium and Wards respectively; the spaceports are also located on the central ring, as it is the center of rotation, facilitating easier access for ships attempting to dock with the station.

The Citadel has a labyrinthine interior superstructure, accessible through keeper tunnels.

Quite the location for Corvo's first battle in this tournament.

Despite being someone who keeps more to himself, Corvo has no problem blending in among the masses and utilizing that to his advantage. Having been a former officer and protector means that he is also always on his toes in this situation and is ready for any sort of strike.

Plenty of places to hide here. So many shadows and so many ways to go about winning this battle that it may almost seem too easy.

Just looking at what he is like without any of his special abilities it is hard to see why Corvo wouldn't have the advantage in this space. There are handfuls of places with different heights to where he could just jump from above and take a target out with the utmost ease.

This will do as a nice intro into the background of Corvo. He is a scorned man who isn't afraid to do what he needs to do. He makes a brutal assassination in around minute 3 of the video, and that is before he even begins to utilize any of his special abilities given to him from the Outsider's Mark. With those additional powers, Corvo might be the most dangerous being to have ever been to the Citadel.

His blink ability will allow him to scale to the higher areas without having that awkward elevator ride. He can utilize Possession to get a look at surrounding areas ahead of or behind him. He can also use that same power to find ways into the nooks and crannies of the Citadel that no one else would dare even attempt to get into. Corvo has dealt with the sick, he can certainly deal with anything that lives there.

One thing he most certainly can do is fight every single being in the Citadel.

To be frank this could be the easiest battle he has ever had. All he needs to do is lead an enemy over to a very high place and then boom... they are sent over the edge with a little wind blast. Game over, you're done.

Best thing for you to do is to yield before this battle even begins, maybe then you will be able to escape with your life.

"When I was 19, I did a guy in Laos from a thousand yards out. It was a rifle shot in high wind. Maybe eight or even ten guys in the world could have made that shot. It's the only thing I was ever good at."

Martin Riggs grew up killing. A assassin for the CIA's "Phoenix Project" in Vietnam and eventual police officer, Riggs has been through some serious situations. Riggs has mastered stealth but also can bring chaos if he chooses. Riggs can adapt to any situation, any foe that's put before him.

Once this bona fide killing machine lost his wife in a tragic car accident murder, Riggs went off the deep end. There was no situation from diplomatic immunities to school shooters to suicidal jumpers to toilet bombs to shadow company pussies that Riggs wouldn't face. The total disregard for his own safety gives him an edge over his enemies, turning him into a "lethal weapon".

Riggs also has a uncanny knack for dealing with pain. Riggs has been tortured, shot, stabbed, dropped multiple stories, electrocuted and left for dead multiple times.

Hell, Riggs will even inflict pain on himself, dislocating his right shoulder if its needed. Riggs always makes that babyface comeback and Riggs always comes out on top.

The Citadel houses 13.2 million in its gigantic structure. Martin Riggs would use this fact to hide amongst the crowds until it was time to strike. Riggs was a assassin in Vietnam, who's population is over double than the Citadel. That experience will no doubt come into play here.

The Citadel also has a labyrinthine interior superstructure that would spell victory for Riggs and his special set of skills. Riggs can operate in the shadows like none other.

Can hear the soft saxophone music playing in the background? It's the last sound you'll hear before Riggs cuts you down for good.

What did one shepherd say to the other shepherd? Let's get the flock out of here. Once the dust settles the only thing left for Riggs to do is crack jokes and leave the Citadel victorious.

    Adorable.

You have this pain threshold, but it won't matter because Corvo knows exactly how to kill someone. He's no school shooter or suicidal maniac. He is someone who knows how to use the shadows to his advantage.

Even if you are able to come in with a weapon like a sniper, which I feel would difficult given the amount of security at the Citadel, you would have a very very hard time trying to find Corvo. As he makes his way to you using the shadows like only he can. Riggs can only look through the scope and see crowds of people before taking a knife to the back of the head.

Let's say that Corvo wouldn't be able to get away with his own weapons as well... He can find a way to use his own abilities thanks to the Outsider's Mark. Look at how smoothly he is here.

The guy leaps from a height, uses his Blink ability, and uses possession MULTIPLE times and gets out with maybe a hair of suspicion being raised.

Corvo could take Riggs out without even touching him. All he would need to do is lead the security to this man and show that he a risk to those around him.

Riggs would also stick out clearly in this setting. Corvo, who normally uses the shadows, would be harder to spot as there are other individuals that look similar to him with his mask on, just ask Tali.

There isn't a battle that Corvo doesn't destroy Riggs in. Even Corvo has a great pain threshold after having been accused of murdered and been tortured himself by arguably more powerful people than Riggs has ever seen.

Riggs can "make a babyface comeback" against whoever he wants, but the difference here is that Corvo is a trained soldier and assassin and knows how to get the job done.

You can be as decorated as they come. Riggs has never faced someone like Corvo before. With weapons Corvo will sneak in and kill you or will happily engage in hand to hand that he will win thanks to his training and many handheld stations. Without weapons Corvo will sneak in and kill you or win happy engage in hand to hand that he will win thanks to his training and the special abilities he's obtained.

It's a win-win for Corvo. He's prepared to continue protecting.

    That's thin.

From your very first sentence, you haven't taken Riggs seriously. This implies you're already looking by Riggs to the second round.

Blatant disrespect. Corvo thinks Riggs is some bum, no name video game soldier that can be conquered in the snap of a finger. If Riggs is in a game, he's a final boss.

Riggs doesn't care about escaping with his life. Rather you not leaving the Citadel with yours. If it takes the ultimate sacrifice, Riggs is willing to put his life out there and always comes out on the other side alive. Riggs' opposition never does.

There are countless examples from David vs Goliath to The Tortoise and The Hare. You think the win is yours only to lose in the end.

You leave out the other examples like Shadow Company, which were legimate trained mercenaries. Twist the narrative. Riggs is a legitimate CIA trained assassin that has been killing people for a long time.

Another example of Corvo's overconfidence. Right off the bat, Riggs has Corvo beat in a battle of wits, with a sense of humor that Corvo can't match. So that's one battle and I'll continue.

Riggs spent years as a assassin. He has been trained to blend in. Riggs isn't running around in his trademark duds. Riggs would acquire proper garb right away.

Riggs could acquire proper weapons too. He's not limited to just sniping. It's one of many ways Riggs could kill Corvo.

Again, just assuming Riggs is some idiot making a scene. This just wouldn't happen.

Also, if Riggs and Corvo were put in front of authorities, Riggs, using his supior wit and charm, could easily convince authorities that Corvo is the harm.

Riggs is also a CIA trained soldier and assassin, that has completed many "jobs".

Riggs has faced plenty of people like Corvo. Cocksure alphas that think they have one up on Riggs.

Riggs always comes out on top whether it was words, weapons or hand to hand combat.

You've continually underestimated Riggs and his abilities. That is a flaw Corvo would not be able to overcome, that Riggs would use to emerge victorious.

Someone complains about being underestimated, and then proceeds to underestimate his opposition.

    Okay.

David vs. Goliath is biblical, this is not. Saying the narrative fits doesn't make it so.

Riggs is willing to put his life on the line... You don't think Corvo is willing to do what it takes to take out his target?

It's simple, he's better equipped to do so. That's why he's confident.

This isn't a battle of wits, it's a battle to the death. No weapon that Riggs can use whether it be a pistol, explosive, or even a jet somehow could stop Corvo because Corvo has one thing that Riggs has never seen before, The Outsider's Mark.

Riggs may have beaten some mercenaries before, but what about a skilled assassin that utilizes the shadows and can possess other beings to find his way to Riggs, that has the ability to bend time and to even stop it completely to get to their target, that can creep in the shadows and then zoom to their target in a moment and then transport right out?

Riggs just can't possibly compete with that. This along with the aforementioned Wind Blast gives Corvo an even bigger edge. When things get tight Corvo can use his training to fight Riggs or he can simply blast Riggs over the edge of the Citadel as he plummets to his death.

What abilities does Riggs have that would give him the edge over Corvo?

The only one that Riggs might be able to do better is dislocate and relocate his shoulder, but I don't think that will get you too far in a battle to the death. By the time you put the shoulder back into place you will have a crossbow bolt sent through your skull or a sword in your heart.

Maybe Corvo can truly break Riggs' heart by possessing a dog that is so precious that Riggs would have to give them attention before appearing and sending a pistol shot right between the eyes.

Corvo could set up Riggs in his own little rat hole hell as he has to fight out of swarm after swarm of rats to even get through this fight. Riggs will wish he had been the end boss that he thinks he is.

The only thing he will be by the end of this battle is dead.

Now that you've gotten your word count under control and you got to edit your post we certainly figured out how Corvo might beat Riggs: cheating.

Quote Originally Posted by kdestiny View Post

Not underestimating at all. Just pointing out how both combatants are very similar. Unlike you who ignores Riggs' past and treats him like some untrained bum.

Quote Originally Posted by kdestiny View Post

Some might say the Bible is full of fiction so I'd say those made up stories are no different than the fiction fights that have unfolded here.

There are plenty of real underdog stories out there to choose from like USA beating the Soviets in the "Miracle on Ice". Corvo might have the upper hand on paper but certainly that doesn't guarantee victory.

Rest assured, it all fits the underdog narrative and how Corvo's overconfidence is his undoing.

I merely pointed out a battle Riggs would win since you said the Corvo couldn't lose to Riggs in anything. You were proved wrong. That leaves the possibility that Corvo isn't as indestructible as you've painted him.

Shadow Company were skilled assassins. Riggs killed them all. Riggs has beat South African drug dealers and the Japanese Mafia. Riggs has and would adapt to any situation he found himself in and Riggs would win.

Riggs is a master of hand to hand combat. If Corvo gets within arms reach Riggs will snap his neck.

Riggs has survived big falls more than once. What's to say he doesn't survive again and comes back. Pissed off.

A useful skill, that comes in handy in certain situations. It's saved Riggs' life at least once.

Pronouns pal. I assume you're talking about the state Riggs will be leaving Corvo in and appreciate you waving the white flag.

My intro and three posts I've explained Riggs' training, fortitude, determination and heart. How Riggs can adapt to any situation. I've shown videos of his unmatched aim and his mastery of hand to hand combat. I've explained how Riggs' could even use his silver tongue if he had to. The Duct Rats are poor, homeless children of the Citadel who travel in the ventilation system of the station. Riggs could certainly befriend these kids (a small army) using his words. After Riggs has a army of wild childs behind him, that would be enough to drive Corvo from hiding. In the open with chaos reigning down because of the kids, Riggs would have the opportunity for a death blow. Riggs doesn't miss on death blows.
