Fiction Fight Round 1 Tie 4: Donald (Mr. Bean) vs. Badger (Squall Leonhart)

    Two fighters emerge.

Their feats are fictional. Their conflict will be real.

    Donald summons Mr. Bean

Mr. Bean (born 15th September, 1956) is the titular protagonist of the comedy franchise with the same name and, although he is often an amoral and selfish character, he has sometimes acted as a hero due to the fact that when his antics go too far Mr. Bean often goes to great lengths to undo them and help people in need (partly due to the fact he is often the one responsible for their plight).

He also has a girlfriend named Irma Gobb, but she can get frustrated with him at times due to his behaviour. One Christmas, she tried to hint for him to get her an engagement ring, but he instead got her picture of someone wearing an engagement ring.

He was portrayed by Rowan Atkinson, who also played Edmund Blackadder and Johnny English, and voiced Zazu.

    Background
Mr. Bean lives alone in his small North London flat. He doesn't often speak, and when he does, it's generally only a few mumbled words, which are in a comically low-pitched voice. He's been shown in the first episode to have studied trigonometry but not calculus.

His ingenuity often leads him to finding ridiculous and impractical solutions to these problems (such as painting a room by putting fireworks into a paint can). Bean will often get confused at the world, not understanding what's going on. He's also quite selfish - if someone is doing something he doesn't like, he gets very agitated. He also doesn't like people taking his things.

Mr. Bean often seems unaware of basic aspects of the way the world works, and the program usually features his attempts at what would normally be considered simple tasks, such as going swimming, redecorating, or going to church. The humour largely comes from his original and often absurd solutions to problems and his total disregard for others when solving them, his pettiness, and occasional malevolence. He acts silly often.

    Appearance
Mr. Bean wears a brown tweed jacket, a white shirt, a thin red tie, brown trousers, black shoes and a black digital calculator watch.

    Personality
Mr. Bean is often portrayed as a buffoon, a simpleton, delusional, immature, and in a world of his own, whose thoughts processes and strain of logic, while often effective, are incredibly strange. Whenever life throws an obstacle or hurdle at Mr. Bean, he will always overdo his countermeasures to deal with it, concocting bizarre and convoluted methods of dealing with even the simplest of life's little problems. He is obnoxious, crazy and sometimes seems stupid. Though on the contrary, Mr. Bean is shown to be a very intelligent man, being able to teach a physics class with ease and creating multiple inventions in a time of need. But his cleverness is difficult to spot under his odd mannerisms, and general immaturity. Mr. Bean rarely speaks and when he does, only a mumbling voice comes out. He doesn't show much care to his girlfriend which was proven in many episodes. Mr. Bean often pretends his teddy is real but he doesn't always treat Teddy nicely. Mr. Bean is also a pain to the Reliant Regal in loads of episodes becoming a running gag in the series. In some occasions, Mr. Bean can be kind. He also tends to hate Irma kissing him, and views her more as a friend than partner. However, he gets angry when a restaurant musician starts dating Irma, which shows that Mr. Bean does love Irma. He exhibits various traits and mannerisms which suggest that he has combination of various mental disorders:

Description - Squall Leonhart (Japanese: スコール・レオンハート, Hepburn: Sukōru Reonhāto) is a fictional character and the protagonist of Final Fantasy VIII, a role-playing video game that was produced by Square (now Square Enix). In Final Fantasy VIII, Squall is an 17-year-old student at Balamb Garden, a prestigious military academy for elite mercenaries (known as "SeeDs"). Forced into becoming the Commander (委員長, Iinchō, lit. "Chairman") due to his outstanding skills, Squall befriends his underlings, and falls in love with Rinoa Heartilly. These relationships, combined with the game's plot, gradually change him from being a loner to an open, caring person. Squall has appeared in several other games, including Chocobo Racing, Itadaki Street Special, and the Kingdom Hearts series as the older mentor-like figure named Leon (レオン, Reon).

Personality – A cold yet calculating introvert who grew up in an orphanage who was close with “sis” Ellone left the orphanage who then left and it was never explained why. This led him to not wanting to get close to anyone else for fear of abandonment. He is a gunblade specialist who has a rivalry with fellow gunblade specialist Seifer Almasy which stems from childhood (although due to the use of the Guardian Forces impairing the memory) they forget how it started but the childhood feelings boil up. This came to a head when they gave each other a scar in training. Seifer is basically a jealous attention-starved bitch who although talented never graduated in SeeD due to his lack of discipline.

Squall has had to put up with babysitting hot dog living chicken wusses, trainspotting nerds and has been known to repel sexually harassing predatorial instructors lacking in leadership qualities by telling them to go talk to a wall:

    Weapons:

Squall uses the hybrid weapon known as the gunblade in battle. Through upgrades via junk shops he can come to wield variant models, although in cutscenes he always wields the Revolver. The player should prioritize upgrading Squall's weapons as he gains new Limit Break finishers from them as well as improved attack power. The upgrades are described in Weapons Monthly magazines, but having the corresponding magazine for an upgrade is not needed if the player only has the materials.

Gunblades provide 255% accuracy, making Squall the most proficient melee fighter as he never misses, even when afflicted by the Darkness status. When pressing the R1 trigger immediately as the weapon hits an enemy, he can boost the damage dealt by 50%.

Squall's own model gunblade is unique, featuring a stenciled Griever on both sides of the blade, as well as having a chained pendant of Griever's head attached to the handle's base. The gunblade's casing is also custom, featuring an enlarged image of Squall's Griever pendant on the lid.

There are seven gunblade models available for Squall to use:

Revolver – Initial model. Described in Weapons Monthly, March Issue.
Shear Trigger – Described in Weapons Monthly, April Issue.
Cutting Trigger – Described in Weapons Monthly, May Issue.
Flame Saber – Described in Weapons Monthly, June Issue.
Twin Lance – Described in Weapons Monthly, July Issue.
Punishment – Described in Weapons Monthly, August Issue.
Lion Heart – Described in Weapons Monthly, 1st Issue.

    Limit Breaks:

Squall's Limit Break is Renzokuken. The player is prompted to tap the R1 trigger button at the correct time, indicated by a moving bar on the bottom of the screen. Some bosses have unique Renzokuken sequences. Squall will slash the targeted enemy four to eight times before possibly beginning one of his four finishing moves.

The finishing move is chosen randomly, but Squall learns finishing moves in accordance to his acquiring of new gunblade models, and can only do a certain finishing move if he is wielding the gunblade model necessary to perform that technique. For instance, Squall cannot use the Lion Heart finisher if he is not equipped with the Lion Heart gunblade.

Here is an example of Squall performing the LionHeart Finisher:

    Guardian Forces:

Compatibility with Guardian Forces determines how long the Charge Time is when summoning them. The below values are the base compatibility values at the start of the game, but changes as Squall acts in battle, as some actions boost compatibility whereas others lower it. Using compatibility items on him in the menu can also be used to boost compatibility. However, it is a minor mechanic in the game and can be ignored.

Squall is better off junctioning GFs that give STR-J to capitalize on his excellent physical capabilities. Out of the starter GFs, Shiva, can learn it initially, and Ifrit joins with it already learned. Ifrit also has Str+% abilities to further boost Squall's physical attack, making him a good GF for Squall for a good portion of the game. However, the GFs' abilities are highly customizable later on.

    GF Compatibility
    Quezacotl 580
    Shiva 570
    Ifrit 600

They will fight in King's Landing (GOT-during the reign of Cersei-prior to destruction)

King's Landing is the capital, and largest city, of the Six Kingdoms. Located on the east coast of Westeros in the Crownlands, just north of where the Blackwater Rush flows into Blackwater Bay and overlooking Blackwater Bay, King's Landing is the site of the Iron Throne and the Red Keep, the seat of the King of the Andals and the First Men (hence the name). It enjoys a warm climate and life there is luxurious for those that can afford it, although it is not without its slums such as Flea Bottom. The city is overpopulated and dangerous at the best of times, despite being policed by the City Watch.

King’s Landing huh? Sounds like a dangerous place for many. A large over-populated city of approximately of 500,000, nobles and a generally luxurious place that still holds slum territories, home to refugees with poor living conditions. Despite being policed by the City Watch, it has still been considered dangerous and been under attack from invasions and civil wars. Sounds like potentially a lot of trouble ahead for any visitors. Is Squall bothered?

Not in the slightest. Squall is a top SeeD graduate and mercenary of Balamb Garden which is host to a training facility containing monsters where SeeD cadets can go and train after curfew. For his final exam, Squall and other SeeD cadets went to the city of Dollet to assist them when the Galbadian Army had overrun the city to get hold of their communications tower. After graduating, Squall has undertaken many dangerous missions to help those in need and save the world. Some of these included helping an underground resistance movement in the city of Timber which was under martial law by the Galbadian Army, he’s undertaken a dangerous plot to assassinate Sorceress Edea who had killed the Galbadian President which although a failure, he survived a potentially fatal Ice Strike wound and then torture in prison where he escaped. He is incredibly resilient:

After escape from prison, he went onto liberate the towns of Balamb and Fisherman’s Horizon who were seized by the Galbadian Army and in a legendary battle, he commanded (admittedly somewhat reluctantly) a group of inexperienced SeeD Cadets against Seifer, the Sorceress and the whole Galbadian Army of Galbadian Garden in a legendary battle of the Gardens where they were victorious against all odds:

After his most dangerous battle to date there, he’s even gone into space to save the love of his live Rinoa when she was possessed by Ultimecia and left to die in space and low in oxygen. He’s literally survived time being compressed dooming the world which would’ve killed most anyone else. So although King’s Landing seems like a very dangerous place, it’s nothing to Squall compared to the dangerous missions he’s had to undertake and if things get hairy and he’s surrounded, he has Guardian Forces to call upon to help even the odds if the numbers are too great to just fight with his gunblade skills.

Mr. Bean isn't know to physically fight, so in order to win this tournament, he will have to rely on his wit. He always comes up with unique ways to get out of predicaments. You may remember his trip to the beach, only to find a gentleman sunbathing. He somehow got into his bathing suit in front of the man, without exposing himself. While the gentleman turned out to be blind, it just shows the forward thinking Mr. Bean has.

His selfishness also will be a positive here. Even the two things he's been shown to have affection for, Irma and Teddy, he seems ok with letting them go. Do you remember when Mr. Bean was packing up for a trip, only to have a small suitcase? He, while hesitantly, ended up cutting the head off of Teddy to make him fit in the suitcase. Also, he has shown to annoy Irma, such as playing pranks on her at the movie theater.

Mr. Bean would fit in well with the citizens of King's Landing, entertaining them with such antics as this.

Mr. Bean will get to a solution, even if it's the long road. Some of the situations people would give up, but Mr. Bean has tenacity and will get there in the end.

@Donald @Mazer I must preface this response that this is the simultaneously the hardest and also most evillest response I have had to do against one of my childhood TV character favourites. But what’s done is done and have to do for the sake of fiction fight business.

Donald your entire argument as brave as it may seem and do commend you for the brave choice can be summed up fairly quickly. Mr Bean can find quick and unconventional solutions out of problems but truth be told these problems are day to day for most people. Cartoons and those who remember back in the day/rewatch the TV and cartoon series laugh at his antics and unorthodox solutions to everyday problems. However let’s be honest. They are everyday problems and the mentally sound average joe just doesn’t have to go to these every day problems. This is not convoluted and comical problems to get through day-to-day stuff..this is a FIGHT! Like Mr Bean cuts the head off his teddy so he can get him in his suitcase which while clever to the situation is entirely irrelevant as to how he is going to fight anybody let alone Squall.

You claim Mr Bean can charm the people of King’s Landing yet in the same breadth you also contradict that by saying he annoyed Irma in a small movie theatre? Just compare that to just annoying just one person in a very large population of 500,000 mixed with not just average joes but nobles, people living in the slums and a city regular under attack. Doesn’t take much for him to walk into the wrong neighbourhood to piss someone off with his antics. Hell there’s a couple of examples where he pissed off a lifeguard at a swimming pool and trying to get early in the hospital queue with his hand stuck in a kettle.

Even despite all that, all you have done so far is how Mr Bean can get out of creative solutions, not how he can actually attack. He’s a loveable goof but the tale of the tape he has zero chance against Squall. Squall has many attack options as listed in the tale of the tape but to be brutally honest Bean might piss someone off anyway and if Bean even makes it to Squall, he’ll just “Whatever!” and slice him.

It's Mr. Bean's recklessness that will help him to win this battle. Not a care about anyone but himself. Spiking a guard's coffee with laxatives, causing vehicle damage while driving and brushing his teeth, knocking out his dentist. He's also perhaps killed peole, such as the heartattack man, or the man with the electric scooter.

You said in your initial line that Mr. Bean was a staple of your childhood, he has charm and wit to win people over. He's entertained children on trains and planes, he has the ability to win over anyone.

You say Mr. Bean has zero chance against Squall's attacks, but Mr. Bean has been known to drive recklessly, often running 3 wheeled cars (where can I buy one of these) off the road. This is his best opportunity to defeat Squall Leonhart.

Mr. Bean may be seen as a buffoon, an idiot, but he is very intelligent, able to creating many inventions and taught a physics class. If it came down to life and death, Mr. Bean will survive.

Yes Mr Bean was a staple of my childhood and going up against hurts me but business is business. Yes he has found ingenious ways to get out of problems. However as I said in my last post, they are everyday problems which for the average joe which shouldn’t require that amount of effort. That’s where the comedy is but that’s what he is especially in this context….comedy.

You assume he will survive and win no matter what but across two posts other than a GIF you haven’t answered my initial question. You haven’t even addressed my character at all and his capabilities How will Mr Bean attack? You make assumptions…gonna channel Fresh Prince briefly but as Coach Smiley said to Will, Carlton and the basketball team…”Ahh you made an assumption! Don’t be an ass….or the ump will tion you!” That tangent aside, this isn’t Mr Bean finding his way about the dentist’s, train cutting the head off his teddy, swimming pool, hospital, supermarket etc…this is a (fiction) fight in a large city regularly under attack with bad neighbourhoods. You assume he will charm people when he has pissed off people in a smaller setting than our venue. You thinking he will rally people on his side. In a city this big with this many people of mixed backgrounds, slum neighbourhoods, invasions from military….good luck!

You talk about Mr Bean’s survival skills but at the end of the day…Squall has him trumped there as well. Never mind straight up combat between them which we both know how that would end, Squall I’d argue is more survivalist and resilient than Mr Bean. He’s fought monsters (even in cadet Balamb Garden training), literally had ice pierced through him in the clip I posted, been tortured in prison, fought the Galbadian army, saved Rinoa in space and gone through time to face a Sorceress in the future to save time literally being compressed (or kompressed as Ultimecia would say in the game translation lol). You make the assumption he’ll win just because it’s him but your argument is paper thin, little if anything to back it up, poor examples other than that exaggerated pic of him. Harsh but true. You just assume he will when Squall has been through much, much more to survive than Mr Bean in the supermarket.

Mr Bean? More like Has-Bean! Pun much intended because we both love our puns.
