Looking forward to the day when every thread is about fellatio.

Also, RIP and all that. Honestly, I've never seen anything of his work.

You might know him as The Genius. I probably should've put that in the thread title as some people might not know his real name. Macho Man's brother.

I'll edit it into the title. I did know that. All that was before I started watching, though.

Just imagining the afterlife, when Macho Man comes to greet his little brother.

Oh, Man, you knew I didn't want the Hall of Fame without our dad Angelo being recognized as well, but ya went and did it anyway....

One of my favorite heels and heel managers too. I liked the rhymes.

Looking back when he was managing Mr Perfect I'm thinking about all the managers WWF had and not a single one sucked. Sherri, Brain, Fuji, Hart, Elizabeth, Slick, Genius, even Sapphire was cool.

Always liked Lanny Poffo and I think he played his JTTS babyface role perfectly, pretty much the same role Iron Mike Sharpe had as a heel. Definitely think the Genius character had legs as a mid-card/IC level heel even after his run with Hogan ended. He could definitely have feuded with the likes of Tito Santana, Jimmy Snuka or Hacksaw Duggan in 1990-91. First time I ever saw Lanny in action was him and Scott Casey vs the New Dream Team on Superstars of Wrestling in the summer of '87.

To this day I remember reading a feature on Randy Savage in one of my old wrestling magazines and it saying; "..while Savage went into body-building, younger brother Lanny Poffo focused heavily on gymnastics..". Sounds silly today but reading that I was like "Wait, what..?" Randy Savage and Lanny Poffo being brothers was completely out of the blue for me since no internet, and I had obviously never seen or even heard of ICW.

To me Lanny's most significant moments in the WWF was being eliminated (and getting to blade) by Andre The Giant in the SNME battle royal pre WMIII, and obviously defeating Hogan on SNME.

    RIP.

His in-ring career was just a bit before my time getting into wrestling so not familiar with that. Only really familiar with his time managing the Beverly Brothers and the Bushwhackers feud. Had no idea until yeeears later he was Randy’s brother.

    RIP

There's a story that Lanny was supposed to join WCW in 1995 as a new version of Gorgeous George, he even bleached his hair for the gimmick. Macho Man had bought the rights to use the name for Lanny from the family of the original GG, but when the thing with Lanny fell through he used the name for his new girlfriend/manager instead (which I remember thinking being quite weird..). Got to get some value out the deal I guess. Even if Lanny's deal with WCW fell through he still collected $150,000/year for five years straight just sitting at home I believe.

I actually would have liked to see a bleached blond Lanny Poffo as a 1990's "Gorgeous George" though.

I'm pretty sure RVD said Lanny was one of his favorites and a huge inspiration because he was doing all types of acrobatic moves nobody else was doing. Just the way he moved was different and he wasn't a big guy either. He was like what Greg Gagne fuckin wished he was.

I think it might've been 3 years but the story is true. Man this is just wild, he was just on Rene Dupree's podcast maybe a month ago if that. His interviews are always great and he hasn't looked like The Genius in probably 20+ years dude looks like my uncle Leon lol.

You know, I've heard that the Great Muta invented the moonsault, but I'm wondering if Lanny didn't beat him to it. Lanny debuted 10 years before Muta and it would shock me if he didn't pull out his moonsault during those 10 years. I've seen him do springboard-senton'esque moves in 1985 so yeah, he was definitely ahead of his time in that way.

I watched James on WSI talk about Lanny Poffo (Lanny was his first ever interview) yesterday and apparently Lanny posted images of himself on his social media on Wednesday and he looked great from all accounts, and then bom, dead the next day.

James was planning to bring Lanny back on his show to be his #100th guest since he was guest #1.

I was just reading up on the moonsault a couple days ago. Mando Guerrero apparently invented the it. Muta is credited with popularizing it but I read somewhere that Poffo was doing the move a few years before him.

How about Johnny V? To me he was "ok" but not on the level of Heenan, Jimmy Hart, Fuji or Slick.

Was Baron there when Genius was "Genius"? Frenchie Martin with Dino Bravo was ok but Bravo and Earthquake with Jimmy Hart=much better. Forgot about Coach. Man if only people knew who that guy was and what a huge name he was in his day (John Tolos)

Nah, I think Raschke debuted at SummerSlam '88 and was gone a month or so later, Lanny debuted as the Genius in March 1989.

Ahhh ok so still kind of around the same time. I always forget Raschke was a manager even though that was the first time I ever saw him.
