Not too worried about the opening intro/explanation yet. I really don’t want the show delving into the origins of the infection because that’s one of the best aspects about TLOU. You don’t know and you don’t need to know, just survive.
Bella Ramsey as Ellie is fine although she wouldn’t have been my first choice. She’s a great actress for her age, but she has this sneer about her that doesn’t scream Ellie to me. I’m sure she’ll knock or out of the park once it starts hitting the fan.
The gamer in me is hoping they have little tidbits here and there about the weapon modding and crafting tables, but eh. That’s just fantasy booking.
I’ve been anticipating this for so long and overall I’d give it a “good” rating. Wasn’t earth shattering, but I’m happy w/ what we got right out of the gate. Folks have been giving the show runner some gif for comments he made about video games and how accessible or inaccessible they are, just blah blah blah. Twitter folks will always find something to try and invoke fear or outrage over goddamn nothing. I’m optimistic about this. Let’s goooo.
My oldest daughter is a mega fan of these games I can't even begin to explain it. With that said, I've never played the games and I didn't really know what the game was even about until the previews of the show. I mean I know it was something to do with a virus or zombies or both. So in a way, very glad I have nothing to go off of just like The Walking Dead. I never read the comics and still haven't (despite owning Compendium One for the last 2 years lol). Game of Thrones, same thing. I wish I could say that about some of the other comic related shows/movies.
9/10 so far. First ep gave me a couple different vibes. Snyder's Dawn of the Dead, Resident Evil, Walking Dead. I love all that stuff so who knows, maybe this will turn me on to the game. FFS my PS4 theme right now is a Last Of Us theme of a burning car. Very relaxing.
I'm hearing this was the 2nd most watched debut of all time, only House of Dragon beat it. Crazy but I do know this franchise is very very popular.
One change about the infection that caught me off guard but I still like is the inclusion of the fibre mycelia coming out of the mouths. That’s gross as hell and I’m all for it because I get why they probably did that when it wasn’t in the game. They needed to make these infected different from every other infection centric zombie story so… fungal infection? Fuck it, have it literally coming out of their mouths from the start. Dig it.

This show kind of reminds me of the show The Strain. IDK how many people here watched that show but it was incredible. That's what I thought of when that shit was coming out Nana's mouth lol.
Pablo is just hitting so many homeruns. Mando season 3 is about to drop in March I believe. This could be his year.
The most exposure I ever got from The Last of Us was watching the opening cutscene. I came into this show with an open mind and I can't say I was disappointed. First episode set everything up nicely.
I like Joel being a bit of a drunk and a drug user. Makes him seem a little more detached from his feelings. I also like the fact that they changed the Tommy storyline to "I know where he is, we communicate all the time, I'm going directly to him" instead of the whole "oops found my brother I haven't talked to in 10 years. What luck!" thing from the game.

Same here. I feel like there will be two types of posters in this thread. Those who will constantly ruin the game and talk about how this and that are different, and those who are oblivious to whatever relationships and stories were in a game. Eventually the first will slow their roll just like in the GoT and Walking Dead threads. Every episode we had to hear about how this was different than the book, comic, no shit....
Not played the game... Enjoying the show, though. I find the infected things incredibly unsettling, don't know why (beyond the obvious). Just seem very creepy. First week was emotionally intense... I didn't think the misses would want to watch this weeks but she did. So far, so good!

Ah man, I fucking loved The Strain but the bastard kid and part of the last 2 seasons really shit on it a bit for me. Felt like it had just gone a biiiiiiiit to far.
Watching episode 2, I still couldn't believe I was actually watching TLOU and also enjoying it 100%. They're nailing pretty much everything so far like
Ellie saying "Noooo." when asked if she had a boyfriend, Ellie's playfully curious character, moving obstacles out of the way...
And they're batting 100 on the big things as well like how much of a threat Clickers actually are. One clicker takes several headshots to put down for good, the set design, Tess' sacrifice... all goddamn perfect.
And I'm totally fine w/ the changes involving Tess' death too. It being infected, not soldiers, because of the connective tissues of the fungi makes one all the more fearful for how the infection has become even more dangerous over time.
One nitpick I guess I have is Joel not taking any weapons once they found the dead Fireflies. Tess overturned boxes full of grenades, you'd think Joel would be stuffing his pockets w/ nades and assault rifle ammo, but ehh... they were in a rush I guess.
Best part for me was definitely the opening. Goddamn that lady expert just high-tailing it out of here and telling them to just bomb the whole fuckin city... that was scary.
I can't wait to see how this show handles the obstacles and heartbreak on the horizon.

I've never seen a minute of The Strain, but I always always always hear how much heat the "kid" has.
What is it about kids on good shows that just make you want to beat their ass? Carl from the Walking Dead, the kid from The Strain, Adam from Your Honor, the list goes on.
Bummed we don't get any Ellie/Bill interaction or any school/Bloater stuff. But I did love that we got to see all of Bill's life w/ Frank.
I feel like they really need to start focusing on Joel and Ellie starting to bond now. So far it feels like we're rushing through the first game at high speed.
Judging by the trailer though hooo boy shit's gonna pick up.
In the opening of episode 2, Dr. Ratna asked where the bite victim was from and was told a flour/grain factory.
In episode 3, Joel said the infection probably came from flour.
Back in episode 1, Joel didn't buy pancake mix for breakfast w/ Sara and they both didn't eat the neighbors' biscuits! And Joel did say he was on Atkins.
And he forgot his own bday cake.

I said this at the beginning that despite my daughter being a super fan (I was just informed the reason she wanted an acoustic guitar for Christmas was due to this game), I never played it and don't really have any idea what it's about. So I'm here for the ride. Just like with Walking Dead, True Blood, Thrones, etc.
The whole time I'm watching this I'm thinking how will this play into the rest of the season because there were what, 4-5 time jumps. Maybe it was just a little "stand alone" type episode to show how others were handling this whole thing.
Joel just having heart problems or panic attacks all of a sudden is out of left field. Don't like it.
Didn't like how clean and normal the town was, and it would have been nice to get to know some of the townsfolk more instead of just Tommy and his wife.
The dialogue felt way off between Joel and Tommy, like "I am mad at you 101" script writing stuff.
Things are feeling wayyy rushed. I wanted to know more about the Native American couple in the beginning, but then we left. Tommy said it was a week's ride to the Firefly HQ, but soon as Joel/Ellie leave the town they're already there.
How Joel was injured at the end was lame compared to the game. The shock of his injury was a tenth of what it could have been if they'd followed the game a little more. That was one of the most gripping parts of the game, but here I feel like they cut it down to something way more tame.
Now that we're 6 episodes in, Joel doesn't come off as a badass. He can't even take on one guy without getting shivved? Pfff.

They really frickin' are though, yeah? This would be like in the Half-Life HBO series Gordon picks up the crowbar and immediately teleports to Xen.
I can’t say enough to the set designers. They did an incredible job with what they did for this episode. Pascall and Ramsey traded episodes to show off their range over the last two.
I like the increased pace. The stuff they are skipping is mainly the gameplay segments. Most of the story has been there one way or another. Sure, they could dig into specific scenes a bit more, but I think they've hit most of the main points and done it in a way that makes sense.
I think what I wanted was just a little more. I mean it's a show so let's have a little more time with Tess, a little more time with Riley and maybe get her back story of how she became an orphan. Just stuff like that. While they've done a wonderful job in their faithfulness to the scenes from the game I'd just like them to slow down and explore it all a little more. But it's still good.
Great show. Makes me want to finally play the game and see how close to the source material it was. I'm hearing damn near Sin City level so that's cool.
I'm just sad that it was only 9 episodes and the finale was barely 40 minutes. Need more. Now. Please.
Never got around to playing the game but always heard the story was pretty dope. Didn't even really care to take the show for a spin but me and the misses were bullshitting for a thing to watch in a moment and were hooked just like that. Couldn't get into Walking Dead or any other of the 31 other flavors of zombie shows/movies but this one just had 'it' and we've been really enjoyting.
Anywho, was considering playing the game before season 2. No idea though if that makes any sense at all given the current plot points or direction of things, etc. For those who have.. any suggestions?
