Which version? Team Angle, 2009 reunion, or Ring of Honor/Japan? Personally I thought their ROH stuff was top level.

Those would have been incredible. Either of those teams in the WWF during that 87-91 stretch would've been made it imo the best tag division of all time. It's insane how good the WWF tag division was during that era. You basically had 3 tiers of teams and they were all good. Even the Bushwackers delivered. They could take 2 guys and turn them into a quality tag-team like it was nothing. Andre/Haku, Power and Glory, Rhythm & Blues, Twin Towers, Hogan/Savage, Natural Disasters.

I watched Royal Rumble 1991 last night and it opens with Rockers v. Orient Express. I'm pretty sure they wrestled each other in AWA (Orient Express=Bad Company) but damn that was always going to be a really good match.

The Rockers never having a legit tag title run is a travesty.

I agree. They should have had a run at some point. They had some great matches with many teams.

And I get the whole argument about some people didn't need a championship but I disagree with The Rockers. Although you never really hear people use that excuse for them I think many of us assumed they had a real one.

Also what is up with some of these suggestions? I said dream matches not nightmare matches.

I recall the Rockers having a great match with the Barbarian and Haku around that time frame, it was on PPV, I just think the Rockers could work with anyone.

WrestleMania 7. One of my favorite wrestling ppvs of all time. They opened the show and had a great match. I always like Haku/Barbarian as a team even in WCW as the Faces of Fear. Haku/Meng has always been a favorite midcarder of mine. You knew you were going to see him throw that savate kick to the throat. Honestly I wish had been given a title run in WCW as Meng when he was giving everyone the Tongan Death Grip.

You know that Cornette and the ME had a meeting with Vince and Pat in 1986 about joining the WWF? I think the issue was pay and the push they would get. Cornette talks about it in a couple of podcasts, most likely in the Bobby Eaton memorial episode. The Midnight Express vs. The Bulldogs for the tag titles before Dynamites back exploded could have been another dream match for sure.

If they never wrestled each other, the Midnight Rockers/Rockers vs any version of the Midnight Express would be great. I guess they could have met somewhere like Memphis/CWA, but I don’t think so.

    Bulldogs/Rockers would be very interesting.

Would love to have seen LOD/Demolition in 1987-1990. It was a legit dream match for so long..

The problem I had with this feud was that most of it didn't happen on tv and that's just part of the era. So there never was a true LOD v. Demolition match available to my knowledge. I didn't appreciate how awesome that feud should have been until I was older because most of my exposure to Road Warriors was as LOD in the WWF. I never got to see really anything prior other than that Starrcade where they did the round robin, and by then I had already seen Demolition and Powers of Pain so to me it wasn't anything special.

In a perfect world WM 7 would've been LOD v. Demolition in Demolition's swan song. It wouldn't have been as good as say 1989 when Ax was still able to go, but it was better than what we got. Mania 7 had 4 of the best teams ever (Hart Foundation, Rockers, LOD, and Demolition) and they were all in matches that were way below what any of those pairings would've been. HF v. Rockers for the titles, Rockers finally get the win. LOD v. Demolition the knockoffs get destroyed once and for all. 1991 tag champs were kind of whack.

They had a couple of televised 2 vs. 2 matches. The ones I found at a glance was one from Wrestling Challenge on January 8, 1991 that lasted a mighty 4:14, and another one aired on the MSG Network on January 21, 1991. That one went for 2:58. There also were two six-man tags (Ax, Smash, Crush vs. LOD/Ultimate Warrior), one at Saturday Night's Main Event #28 and another one on the MSG Network.

But yeah, had we got Demolition vs. LOD for the tag titles at, say SummerSlam'88 it would have been a different story.

My memory is shit but apparently they did have quite a few matches. Here's another one from October 30th, 1990 that was on a DVD called WWF Unreleased 1986-1995. Here's my question: Is the music playing real or was it piped in after the fact? There are a few DVDs I have where some have the original Demolition music and some have generic metal sounding music. But for some reason I seem to remember this more Mankind-ish music when they started wearing the masks.

Pretty sure that Demolition music is done in post.

Also the crowd is absolutely mild for the LOD music and for this match in general.

It's too bad the WWF were strict about having someone as a multi division champ because Mega Powers as tag-team champions would've been cool. Have them beat Demolition and the Twin Towers become champs when Savage turns on Hogan.

Well, there's no way in hell either Hogan or Savage would take the pinfall/submission needed to lose the tag titles proper against the Twin Towers, hell, pretty much any (respectable) singles wrestlers losing to a tag wrestler during that era didn't happen. The easy solution would be to have Jack Tunney strip the Mega Powers of the tag titles after their break-up since they obviously wouldn't defend them within the 30-day period that was actually pretty well enforced back in the day.

Then I would have a mini-tournament at WMV with the winners of the Twin Towers/Rockers and Demolition/Powers of Pain facing each other for the vacant tag titles. Demolition/Rockers would be amazing, but Demolition/Twin Towers would be the match.

I never looked at Bossman and Akeem as just your standard tag-team though. They were co-captains of a Survivor Series team and felt more like a Mega Powers type team than say Hart Foundation or Demolition. They did spend more time as an actual tag-team though so I totally get what you're saying. But I think Savage would've done the job as it wouldn't have been a clean win, Bossman and Akeem are 3-4 times his size. But again it was a different era, and while Savage definitely didn't seem like the "That doesn't work for me brother" type I can see the reasoning. 10 years later they would've won the tag titles on Raw and a week later lost to APA.

Macho Man probably wouldn't have any issue with getting pinned by either Akeem or the Bossman, he wasn't that kind of guy, but 1/2 of the WrestleMania main event getting pinned two months before the PPV on NBC wasn't ever going to happen back in 1989. Generally they were super strict with any names losing on television, at least by pinfall or submission.

Shane Douglas told a pretty cool story about Randy Savage coming to his dressing room after a match they had in 1990 to thank him for "doing the honors" for him. Douglas was a 24-year old pretty much nobody while Savage was one of the three or so top names in the business, so it wasn't exactly something Savage had to do.

    Those would've been incredible.

Not completely related but Shawn v. Austin before Owen broke Austin's neck were some good matches. I saw a dark match with HBK v. Ringmaster for the WWF title back in April/May 1996 and it was 20+ minutes back and forth. And their Mania 14 match was good too but yeah the stuff from 1996/1997, incredible.

I can't believe nobody mentioned the Blondes. They were so good together.
Would've loved to see them and the Hart Foundation as well.
Austin/HBK definitely put on some solid matches. Mania match, from what I remember, was pretty damn good.

I forget about the Blondes sometimes just because their solo careers were so much bigger. I always thought it was cool that they teamed up because 2 of my best friends were huge Pillman and Stunning Steve fans so we used to joke they should be a tag-team in our backyard wrasslin promotion. Just think how different wrestling would be today if they stuck together for another year.
