I'm in but when you say narrow it down to 20 for a top 50 list on every platform imaginable and don't think too hard....Oh man I'm going to be here for the next months thinking about the last 40 years of my life lol.
What I want to know is how long with this top 50 take you to create???
In, though I'll have a hard time quantifying certain games against each other & may need to revisit old favourites to see if they're as good as I remember.

This sounds fun really, but I'm afraid I'd have a list limited to around nothing later than 2015-ish (if that, maybe) when I was last involved much in current games.

It came in at 7 on mine. And that feels a little low. Since I put well over 300 hours on it just last year.
I managed to pare my list down to 69 from 119 by eliminating the games that I ultimately don't think will make my final cut. I think I'm gonna rank the rest by console and try to sort it out that way.
Shit's hard. I could easily do like a Top 10 for each platform, but trying to condense them all down to 20, especially with sequels, is rooooough.
EDIT: And now I have that down to 30 and it's pretty much all guaranteed heartbreak from there

I'm curious if anyone put the old Socrates "educational video system" on their list.
I thought about going the cheap route and just voting all the HD/Remaster collections for my favorite franchises so I'd have extra slots to play with, but it didn't feel right. Plus, in the end, it only would have really made a difference for one game that got omitted, so I guess it didn't really matter.
@Eddie Brock How are you handling tallies for games that are cross-platform and don't have unique differences? Like the SNES and Genesis Beavis & Butt-Heads are completely different, but Skyrim is functionally the same on every console. I hope you're taking some liberty in counting all of those votes as one, because I could see that making for a split and bloated list.
I think that's why you have to distinguish which console it's for. Some people might hate the Super NES version of Beavis and Butthead so why would you count that with the Genesis version? Would you count the Mortal Kombat Super NES and Genesis as the same considering one has sweat which ruined it for those of us who love the blood? You have games that look better on the PC than they do on the console and play differently if you're using the keyboard or a controller.
Plus, this is an extremely ambitious task. You yourself didn't even have 1 single Super Mario game on your top 20, that's insane to me but look at your list of games you didn't include....A lot of those games are on my list lol.
I felt crazy cutting a lot of the games I did. Like I said, if this was like one generation or one console family, it would be easier, but when you only have 20 slots to cover ALL games, that's...really hard.
I could have done the Top 30 and felt a bit more comfortable, but even that was already cutting out a lot of heavy hitters.
It also doesn't help that I tried not to have sequels in there. I pretty much chose my favorite of each series and stuck with that in most cases.
My list was basically me going off the top and then going back through all my physical games and games on my Rapsberry Pi (over 5,000 on 20 different consoles). Just a quick glance which reminded me of some of the arcade games I had to include (Spoiler alert, WrestleFest is on there lol)
I had to include sequels on certain games. Some are just superior but it was tough narrowing down just one console let alone one entry. No Mega Man on my list for this reason, I couldn't decide between 2-4 lol.
Less than 4 weeks and cross-platform titles will count as one vote.
I see no reason France can't win it all again.

Next week got some stuff on, but week before Christmas I’ll do my best to get one in.
Pre-warning it will likely contain Final Fantasy/other SNES games as I’m a big FF/vintage guy.

I'll dredge the auld memory banks and come up with a rough list now, and finalise it the week before christmas because I'm off work then.
If I ever decided to go really old school, then Terminator 2 or Navy Seals for the Commodore 64 but I’d have to really consider and weigh that up. System we had before SNES.
Never had a NES or Sega Mega Drive which we had to play at friend’s houses so they’re unlikely gonna be on my list.
Still remember the video game and cartridge swaps in High School/Primary School. “Yeah kinda curious about Home Alone SNES so will temporarily goodwill loan you Street Fighter II Turbo.”

Well, Nintendo has about 10 years head start on the PS, and a bit more before X-box arrived.

I made up my list a couple of years ago and update it periodically as needed. My list actually has a mix of games that I've liked from my formative gaming years until now. All of these games I either played multiple times or spent one very long time playing through the campaign. So this is largely games that had the greatest impact on me or what I love about the industry mixed with where I stand on the franchise or genre as a whole.

I got a PS5! I am a gamer again! Gatekeep everything! Finished PS4 Spiderman, Cried! Starting Miles now and its already just as good.

I only did a top 10. If I went to 15 I KNOW TLOU would make my list. It's my favorite storyline in any game ever bar none.
But the gameplay is a tad clunky at times and the weapons upgrade system, while fun, could have had way more depth. Just doing that alone would have put it in my top 10.
I didn't vote for any games I have never played, so my list might seem kind of asinine. I have never owned a Playstation, so you will notice a lack of them in my list.

10 years? Wow. I really need to start my backlog of games. I've had this since day 1 release and still never played it.
My backlog has gotten so insane I feel like by the time I'm an old man I'm going to be 30 years behind on shit.
Last of Us is in my backlog as well. I have the remastered PS4 version. I’m not the biggest fan of cinematic games with great dialogue and lots of cut scenes. I’m more like a “throw me into the gameplay” kinda guy. But I still plan to play this soon, likely this year.
Last of Us was a great game. Didn't make my list, though. A little too narrative for me to put it in my Top 20. But it's definitely one of the best of the last decade. Still need to play the sequel.
Crazy that this isn't top 8 let alone barely top 20.

Never beat it. Fun game though. Seems to have been a lot of people's intro rpg.
Excellent game. I had it at #9. Was definitely my entry RPG(though I played Earthbound around a similar time). I'm a big fan of the Paper Mario series, but nothing ever hit quite like this, and I would love to see some attempt to make a sequel, even if only spiritual by being a classic JRPG.
I'm so old, fucking Dragon Warrior was my first rpg.
Haven't played. Seen some game play and not certain I would've gotten into this the same level the other Mario games.

This is basically me except I think it'll happen at some point. I have it on my Switch. I've watched dmy girlfriend play it. I've just had such a backlog that it keeps getting pushed to the side.
Pretty deserving based on reputation alone.
I have one farm that I've put probably 300 hours into and it's immaculate and every area is well groomed and landscaped and decorated (and obviously I'm rich as fuck and have unlocked everything). I'm still trying to get a few giant crops in specific locations to make it truly perfect, but essentially I'm done with it and can do no more. I'll probably be taking a break from Stardew for now but I already look forward to starting a new farm at some point in the future.

Sonic 2 was on my rough draft list, and I think I had it in my Top 30ish draft, but it was ultimately just not strong enough against my other choices. Easily a Top 5 of Genesis games, or Sega in general, really. Classic game.
As someone that has started multiple new farms. You'll delete it and go back to the mega one. We all do.

A little surprised someone scored TIE fighter higher than me. Even with the midi music and basic polygon graphics, it is one of the best space sims ever. Also the first canon appearance of the TIE defender.

Sonic 2 was 11 though. Though we were more a SNES family, had some good times playing it on the Mega Drive at other’s houses.
Never played Tie Fighter. Barely played Sonic in my life so I'm not sure if 2 is one I've played or not. I could just never get into the hedgehog.
Red Dead Redemption is one of the few games that made my list released after 2000. Love the Undead Redemption game as well. RDR is just so fun. I still haven't played part 2 but my oldest daughter has been playing it on her ps5 it looks so good.
Western genre games were hardly ever a thing before that game. It is so much fun!
Could have easily been on my list (especially with the Undead Nightmare DLC), just felt the endgame/epilogue was a bit of a letdown. Of course Ross was never going to let Marston go, but did we really have to play as his son?

I loved it. I know everybody hates Jack, but I liked the idea that, no matter how Marston tried to keep his son from becoming him, it happened anyways. I know they are probably going to do another sequel, but a Western game based in the 20s or 30s would be interesting.

Red Dead is one of the egregious pieces of backlog I have yet to dive into. I have a copy on my PS3, I just never found the right time between other games I was playing.
Sonic 2 is the better game imo, and Sonic 3 is my personal fav. But the original spawned a franchise for a reason.
As a launch title showing off the capabilities of the Genesis/Megadrive, it couldn’t have been better. Never played it enough to be any good at it though.
As someone who has loved GTA for years I can't believe it took me this long to start Red Dead. It's worth it man. It really is.
Sonic was on par with Super Mario 3 but I never played enough Sega to warrant it on my list. Sonic and Knuckles is probably my favorite entry on the Sega.
Lol yea I've done that already. Got maybe 20 hours into a couple new farms before returning to mega farm. However now I'm truly truly finished. I mean I already finished decorating the train platform area, mines, bus stop etc - literally everywhere. I got over 100 million dollars just to see the counter click back to zero. I've got more Qi bucks than I can spend. So it's true end game for me -no more redecorations needed. Legit all I'm doing now is planting crops with giant potential in specific locations to try to get lucky and get them exactly where I want them, but then I just skip most of the season to see if they popped up or not.
