    Thinking about other potential matchups...

Balor vs Edge? Or some sort of tag between Mysterio/Edge vs Balor/Priest where Dominick turns? Nakamura vs Gunther for the IC title? That will bring the card to 10 which is what they had last year.

I feel like we're getting a triple threat tag match for SD with the Viking Raiders, New Day and Skyscraping Breakdancing Shanky and Jinder. One of my favorite things about Smackdown besides Triple M is the Viking Raiders as heels.

I called WWE WWF for years after the switch and I probably will do the same thing here. It will always be a PPV.

Please continue to do so. If it’s changed to the PLE Predictions thread we riot…or put on sad faces at least.

Many schools in the US start back in August, including most of Tennessee where SummerSlam will take place. Also, the hot weather in middle TN at the end of July = sweat town. The smells in Nissan Stadium while baking in the sun will be quite ripe. I suspect the Nasty Boys will be near because everyone is going to pity city with that humidity.

BREAKING: Seth "Freakin" Rollins injured Riddle with a vicious attack on #WWERaw that resulted in a brachial plexus injury (a stinger). Riddle is medically disqualified until full strength returns.
Due to this injury, Riddle vs. Rollins at #SummerSlam has been postponed.
    Ok...

Kayfabe injury. No explanation as to why they're likely postponing it to Clash of the Castle, and Rollins is obviously now off the Summerslam card (for now).

Maybe they feel they've undersold the match with a build (which is probably fair) and they want to give it more time to simmer and help build that card.

First major show with HHH at the helm....it's gonna be good right? Probably too early to have some Triple H guys return (Kross, Gargano, Kai, etc.).

Gargano is in town for Starcast so you know he could show up since I don't think he has signed anywhere. But yeah two soon for people to show up. Kross may be interested but he seems to be busy with bookings right now. Yeah I am not expected major changes just more slow gradual changes.

Not sure how much can change for this show. All we are looking for at a ppv are quality matches with good finishes right? I am more concerned with the week to week creative. Let's see how that changes after sumemrslam

IDK if I agree with anyone saying Rollins v. Riddle hasn't been built up and/or built up very well. 2 top tier guys getting nixed a week prior to their big match at arguably the 2nd biggest ppv of the entire business.....for what reason? I thought Vince retired.

The only hope is that Seth comes out demanding a match or demanding he be declared the winner and out comes Randy Orton ORRR someone that is "new". Whether that's MJF, The Fiend, EC3, RVD or C-3PO I'm game.

Yeah the build has been fine for this match. Not sure why the delay. They could have done a rematch at the Clash if they were looking for solid matches at that show.

Yeah hopefully we a match with Seth and a surprise return or something.

While people would probably be amped for a rematch, why not look at trying to maximize the freshness of the match by preserving that for a unique venue and card? We’re so used to burning through rematches and while they may do that here, might as well prolong to help build your card. While you’ve already got something established there that can fill TV time in a heated and entertaining way in Rollins/Riddle, that allows you to work on other things with a new leader creatively establishing things elsewhere.

If this wasn't SummerSlam one of the major shows and biggest show of the summer yeah go ahead and delay the match to the Clash to help build that card. However this is Summerslam. I do get what you are saying though and don't really disagree if it wasn't for this particular show that you are trying to have a big card for.

I am for more long term build up and not as many rematches though so this will work out. Just wish it was still happening this weekend.

Gargano is trending a little bit on twitter because people want to see him replace Riddle and face Seth.

While I agree, it doesn't feel like WWE hypes that up as such. I guess the PLE model has devalued most of these, other than Mania, unless they really want to go out of their way to build them up as a truly special event.

Fair point. I mean I guess you can argue the fact that they try to pick bigger venues for Summerslam, Survivor Series and Royal Rumble so they still think they are bigger than the rest beyond Mania but again fair point. Maybe fans this should be a bigger show than others.

It’s been going since before MITB and that’s not long enough for a build?

Bit of a strange decision if that’s the case. On the plus side though, Riddle could get even more over upon return from injury and seeking revenge.

Very true about the stadium aspect. They won't fail to advertise Mania's and spend a lot of time doing so, but I just think they use the grandfathered mystique about the big 4 (5, if you count MITB) to their advantage as tentpole events but they don't always follow through with the advertising with them on that same level.

For whatever reason, Ezekiel was a sacrificial lamb for at least two weeks of this story so it has meandered some of the way lol.

Yeah fair dos. Matches weren’t bad though and just saw it as making Seth stronger. Slight meander but not too bad.

The reality is you don't see the celebrities wrestling at Extreme Rules or Backlash very often. So when you see 2 matches out of 8 are "celebrity" matches, and you don't see Rollins, Styles, Drew, Riddle or Sheamus on the card....I think Summerslam is still considered a huge event regardless of the PLE model. I don't even know what means because I've never felt Summerslam or really any of the big 4 were treated as "less than" post-Network. Especially Mania and Summerslam.

Look at it this way. John Cena hasn't wrestled at the last 2 Mania's, but he's worked Summerslam.

Impressed by Paul and McAfee. Show has flowed pretty good match to match. Riddle-Rollins segment was ok filler and didn't take up a ton of time.

Smart entrance by Brock. Otherwise he'd be winded if he had to walk all that way to do 14 suplexes and nine F5's.

I've never seen this style of barricade before. As soon as I saw it with its weird looking top and rounded edges I thought "how do you stand on that without slipping?"

3 minutes later Brock slipped right off.

Personally I think Brock would have won if he hadn't got all full from eating the wrestling ring.

Holy fucking shit. And that was the best job I've heard Cole do since that show in Japan when Balor fought Owens.

The show wasn’t bad but I wouldn’t call it good either.

Bayley’s return was underwhelming and then she brought out two people I’ve never seen before which just watered down her return.

I liked the finish to Liv/Rousey, I was worried they’d give Morgan a clean win.

Opener was good and instantly showed that Triple H’s fingerprints are firmly around the creative. Enough with the forced heel run of Becky, though the motivation to shake Bianca’s hand and stand beside her at the end was unclear for now. Then you get Dakota back into the company and Io onto the main roster (now Iyo Sky) as they both run with Bayley. So much going on and a massive infusion of talent on the Raw women’s roster. Bianca and Becky need a third, it seems.

Paul is forcing it as a face but he absolutely won the crowd over with the tremendous frog splash to the outside. The guy needs to calibrate the talking for segments but he’s a natural in the ring.

Lashley/Theory made total sense as it was such a nothingburger of a rematch and they just moved on.

Wolfpac Edge was another smart adjustment to turn back. He could work as a heel but they laid it on too thick with his turn and starting Judgment Day. Give me Bálor/Edge at Clash at the Castle.

McAfee was a bit sloppier this time around but the match with Corbin was fine.

Very anticlimactic rematch for the tag gold. I think we’re on the horizon of a breakup for the Profits.

We’re getting the Ronda turn, which is needed, but we need a bit more from Liv. She showed great resiliency battling out of the submissions but she needed more offense. I guess that’ll come as we continue, but we didn’t need another ref botch finish.

Absolutely wild finale for Reigns and Lesnar. It was zany but innovative. Cole is going to be an unsung hero of that match as he did a fantastic job selling the drama of the finish. He also really put over both competitors as they kept battling to answer the 10 counts. Lesnar’s probably riding off into the sunset (maybe for good), and McIntyre needs to be heated up for Cardiff. That match will be heated. Theory attempted to cash in but was thwarted by Lesnar so we’ll see when he teases it next.

Looking forward to seeing how Triple H delivers this going forward as he can really sets things off as he’d like to.

All in all, a very good show.

Becky/Bianca was a banger, as expected. And then...BAYLEY! DAKOTA FUCKING KAI!! IO! Holy shit, I popped so hard. Easily my favorite moment of the night. Women's scene is about to be fire. Asuka for Becky and Bianca's third, please.

Logan Paul impressed the hell out of me yet again. I want to boo the man but then he goes and kills it in the ring. That frogsplash to the desk was fucking nuts. Mad respect for the work he's doing here no matter what I might think of him otherwise. Good match. Ciampa/Styles will be great if they get some time to shine.

Lashley/Theory was fine. Nice win for big Bobby.

Mysterios/JD was fine enough. Edge's return was cool, the aesthetic was pretty rad.

    McAfee/Corbin was serviceable.

Tag title match was definitely a notch below their last go round but not bad. Will be curious to see if the Profits split or whatever.

I don't mind what happened with Liv/Ronda as it seems like a middle of the series moment and the real conclusion, and hopefully definitive win for Liv, will happen in a rematch.

Reigns/Lesnar really cranked things up. Tractor antics, baby. I thought he might lift the ring but then I thought it wasn't possible and then he went and did it. Wild visual. Theory cashing in seemed unlikely given Drew's title shot, the money's in him against Reigns not Thoery so the failure for Mr. MITB was the right move. I won't be mad if this was Lesnar's last match for a good long while, if for good altogether.

Oh yeah, and Maximum Male Models were on and it was terrific. Was getting a bit wet myself, heh.

So, Wrestlemania thoughts? Now that Vince is out and Trip is in, and has his finger on the pulse for long term booking, I imagine they'll start building those blocks soon. For me, in tiers as it's a 2 nighter so one from each per night, obviously past the headliners:

WWE Undisputed Championship: Rollins (c) vs. Rhodes. The temptation is to keep the belt on Reigns and do Reigns vs. Cody to finally lose it, but for me you give the UK the big moment and have Drew win it there. Circle to Rollins for the Rumble, Rhodes returns and wins the Rumble, bingo.

The Rock vs. Roman Reigns. It writes itself, and is really the last logical chance to do it. I imagine the attendance record is in play so they'll be going big. If Rock's out, you keep the belt on Roman and do him and Cody.

Raw Women's Title: Charlotte (c) vs. Sasha vs. Becky vs. Bayley
SD Women's Title: Ronda (c) vs. Bianca

    Brock Lesnar vs. Bobby Lashley
Tag Titles: Usos (c) vs. McIntyre/Sheamus

    Randy Orton vs. Riddle
    Edge vs. Kevin Owens

    Logan Paul vs. AJ Styles
    Pat McAfee vs. Sami Zayn

US Title Ladder: Balor (c) vs. Mysterio vs. Miz vs. Ciampa vs. Ricochet vs. Ford vs. Dawkins
IC Title: Gunther (c) vs. Bron Breakker

As the top 12 matches. Then you could throw in a Big E return (hopefully) with a New Day vs. Maximum Male Models 6 man, and the Women's tag titles (Liv/Bliss vs. Dakota/Io vs. Rhea/Racquel vs. Asuka/Xia?) and you've got a hell of a set of cards.

Did we watch the same show. That was a really good show. Bayley's return along with Dakota who was released a while back and Io was fantastic and the Becky turn to go with it. The Liv/Morgan match was meh and the Dusty finish was not all that great. Time will tell if that helped or hurt Liv and this title reign.

The main event was bananas and entertaining. Knew Reigns was winning just needed to see how and figured something would happen to Theory so no cash in.

Tag title match was a let down after their MITB match.

Good solid matches all around for the rest of the card and nice Edge return even though it sucks that he turned heel and almost immediatly had to come back as a face.

Paul did great for his first singles match and got the crowd behind him.

McAfee and Corbin was a little sloppy but overall good match and McAfee again just works the crowd great.

I was very entertained by the show.

I think my family thought I was nuts over the Bayley return even though they did appreciate seeing the return as well but I went even more nuts with Kai and Io showing up as well.

Commentary helped in that aspect with Dakota and Iyo. Not ideal to reveal people cold to a massive audience (many of which don't know who they are) but it's going to be a big boost.

I agree that people that are not familiar with NXT wouldn't know them but I think the crowd reaction show that plenty of people do know them. I honestly need to go back and listen to the commentary. I was too excited and not paying attention. And especially after Becky got back in the ring next to Bianca.

Her reaction to all of it was great. I was always mixed on her down in NXT and even when they first put her on the main roster. Great talent with charisma but I was just not sold on the character. As she got going on the main roster and what not though I was all in. She is great. I still prefer Becky but that is besides the point.

Awesome show. A few storylines wrapped up (hopefully Profits/Usos, Lesnar/Reigns, probably Lashley/Theory), a few set up for the next show. McIntyre/Reigns, Ciampa/Styles maybe, or Miz/Styles.

They did far more right last night than wrong. Tractor pushing and tilting the ring was creative. Better than what I assumed would be Reigns using it as a weapon against Lesnar to gain the win. The Usos getting involved is getting a little tiresome though. Flashbacks of Rollins having J&J getting involved, whatever advantage can be had to hold onto the title.

Curious to see what they do about Io, Dakota and Bayley. Nice additions and I'd expect Asuka is the third with Becky and Bianca, but I'd like a surprise out of NXT like Bayley's got.

Yeah I think BG's take on how they debuted didn't match up with the reality of how the crowd reacted at the show. If they came in and nobody cared, I could see that. But that place popped hard. Some of us hardcore fans downplay how knowledgeable the live crowd actually is especially at the big ppv's with tickets that aren't cheap. NXT gets about half a million viewers on USA a week. I imagine out of those 40,000 fans some of them watch NXT.

Have only seen the first match so far, but every time I've tuned into a WWE show since I stopped watching weekly, Bianca has been part of one of, if not THE best match of the night. Her match with Bianca even before any of the fallout was fucking magnificent and I'm so proud of everything she's accomplished. She's a goddamn star and I'll hear no slander.

Also Becky. I mean we all know what's up. She's The Man for a reason. She was really going all out and looked the best I'd seen her in the ring in a minute, and she has almost always delivered the last few times I tuned in. But the way she sold the story post-match was something special. The look on her face when she put her hand out: it was defeated, apologetic, pleading, all in one. It felt like a perfect cap on their saga that explains Becky's whole arc since she returned. And it set up the proper face turn perfectly.

    Just good shit all around

Plan to check out the rest of the show(or at least most of it) some time soon, but I'll be out of town for most of this week so don't know when I'll actually watch it. But it was a really strong start, regardless of that was all Triple H or it was relying on hangover from Vince.

I owe Logan Paul an apology, the dude may be a piece of shit but he can work. He showed up in the tag match at Mania but really earned his stripes on Saturday; if he decided to make a career move, I wouldn’t be against that.

Also, credit to Miz for being a very under-rated worker and helping Logan create such a solid match.

Miz has been a very good worker for the last half of his career. Particularly his transition and selling. He certainly deserves a lot of credit for that match being not just watchable, but entertaining. And it is not like he hasn't made celebrity performers look fantastic before - see Bad Bunny.

Logan Paul earned some respect, but he's still a natural heel. Wonder where he goes next.

The Miz is criminally underrated by fans, peers, and legends. He's been in the WWE for about 20 years if you count developmental and for the most part has always played his part very very well. I don't really backflip over his match quality but he's good. The only time I feel like he doesn't thrive is as a babyface. If he can be a tweener that works, but if you want him to pump up the crowd and cut a generic promo it just doesn't feel right. Probably why I've never seen any of his movies I don't want to see this guy saving the day lol.

I don't know why you all are surprised the Miz is good. He's been telling us for years he's awesome. You just didn't believe him?

What's been blowing me is people on Twitter still preaching the "Miz sucks in the ring" narrative. I thought everyone realized like 10 years ago that dude can go?

Like he's not a workrate guy, but he knows how to tell a story and hit his spots when they need to be hit.

Yeah he can go. He has worked hard to be able to perform and make it look good in the ring.

People on social media have varying opinions. I doubt the entire Twitterverse is saying The Miz sucks in the ring. I mean, I can see why people would that because, and to sorta quote Danielson, he wrestles a very safe, WWE style. There's not much room for variety with a Miz match but you could say that about a ton of wrestlers over the years.

He's not a workrate guy which is why you'll find people who do care about workrate in terms of a Kurt Angle or Bret Hart style match saying he sucks. Just like you'll hear people say Kurt Cobain sucked playing the guitar or that MC Hammer sucked at rapping. Were they Eddie Van Halen and Rakim? Nope. Did they sell tickets? Yup.

I am so glad that Bayley is back, and am looking forward to her tangling with Bianca and Becky. I will remain optimistic about the two she's bringing along with her, because Bayley has improved to the very top level on the mic, and the others can learn from her. I am hopeful that this means HHH may be serious about rebuilding the women's tag division.

I wish I could say I was as excited for Edge's return as I am for Bailey.

I am hearing rumblings about the WWE splitting up the Street Profits soon. Thought their match with the Uso's was good, but after their last dances, I had higher expectations for SummerSlam, but this match was shorter than I expected.

Loved Pat McAfee's breakdown of his match on his show today. He admitted that he hadn't trained outside and the thick air made it rough. His foot slip and wobbling on the top rope before the Bombino was legit.

Liv and Ronda was not built well, and did not do Liv any favors.

He can but he's been pretty sketchy over the last 2-3 months. He had really below par matches with Rhodes and Styles.

Ronda should've turned heel during the build. The problem is that Liv has been a jabroni for years. Her wins feel forced because it's like Jinder. For years they're low card, trading wins with other low card talent that isn't doing anything of importance. And then boom they win a battle royal, or in Liv's case MITB, and boom they're champion shortly after. Jinder it was literally jobber for years and within a month he's starting a 6 month reign.

But he at least LOOKED the part. Liv is going up against a legit MMA killer, on the Mt Rushmore of WMMA, you can only suspend disbelief so much. I mean shit they had Jinder lose the title a week before he was going to fight Lesnar...to AJ Styles lol. Visually Jinder should've been in that match as a threat but we all know the truth. If Lesnar gave Jinder anything it'd look stupid. Just like with Liv and Ronda. It just doesn't pass the smell test when Ronda's 100-2 and Liv is 12-450.

We needed this match to be a triple threat with Natalya. Nattie can take the pin and you get a little more time to build Liv v. Ronda. I'm not negative to the finish, it's brilliant, but this match did Liv zero favors. Ronda turning (hopefully) gives Smackdown a much needed heel that isn't Charlotte. With Bayley and her squad going to Raw, Smackdown needed someone fresh on the heel side imo.

Is Ronda even sticking around? She seems like she’s on the Lesnar part-time schedule, I bet we don’t see her until the build for the next Saudi Arabia show.

Well she's been pretty consistent since Rumble. Lesnar wrestles what, 3 times a year and maybe shows up a total of 10. She was never really on that type of schedule to begin with. Her first run she was there all the time working house shows, same as this time....

I could see her suspension that was just announced being a way to write her off for a little bit but IDK. We see this shit all the time and the next Smackdown here they are kicking ass. I guess we'll find out but the way the Summerslam match ended it seems odd to not follow up with any of that.

What factors into his ratings? If it's straight wrestling, then Reings vs. Lesnar should be a lot lower, but if you're adding in sports entertainment then it's probably an accurate rating. Think I'd put Bianca and Becky at 4.5 as well

    Several Factors:

    1. Technical Skill displayed
    2. Audience Engagement
    3. Story-telling/Ring Psychology
    4. Involvement of the Young Bucks (this can include previous relationships and/or Young Buck twitter engagement)

If you watch the Kanyon Dark Side of the Ring and then add in how attached they are to Dave Meltzer, who has no wife or children that we know of but spends many, many, many hours with Bryan Alvarez and the Jackson Bros. You have to wonder, were they being groomed? Maybe I'm reading too deep into it but it makes a lot of sense.
