Brought this up in the WhatsApp wrestling chat was in last night and just putting the feelers out at this point. Took a backseat a bit last year but could be up for running this in the summer. 16 participants and 3 judges (myself if needed) would be minimum but just thought I’d put this out there now for interest. For newer guys not so familiar with this debate concept, will find links to past threads if need be.

Enforcing time limits/posts will be harder and trying to gage proper interest at the same time a difficult balance so asking for ideas if you want to see this continue.

Been on the back of my mind this and thought I’d at least try one more time. Happy to restrict participants to 8 plus 3 judges but wanted to know if there was still interest before letting this die completely. Can run this over autumn as flexible.

Consider this a blank slate so not confirming anyone who expressed interest in participating/judging. If interested let me know, otherwise will let this sink to the bottom.

As per bump in discussion thread, consider these official sign-ups. Asked if these may be merged but yeah blank slate.

Looking for at least 8 people to take part and 3 judges to help judge them. Anyone newer seeing this and perhaps interested, happy to provide guidance/past threads as to how this generally has worked but to summarise, competition on wrestling debate topics and the selected judges vote privately and I reveal the votes when done with the results.

Usually ties are run over 3 days at least with a word count per post. Usually round about 300 to kick off but can adjust this. Was 3 posts in the first round then the topics get harder along with more posts and bigger word count.

Brief summary but will happily provide more and past examples as a guide for any newer people perhaps interested.

I was hoping to get this started by now but after today I may have jury duty, got to call and find out today but will likely have to phone every day as they put you in a ballot first and so gotta call every day after which is a pain.

So putting this on hold for now in case I’m tied up. Hopefully I won’t get picked but just in case, gonna freeze this until I find out.

The last spot is still open so please feel free to take it in the meantime. Once it’s confirmed either way what’s happening I’ll get this started immediately.

I might ask the lovely judges if one of them would swap to participate and I’ll judge instead if struggling to fill out but only as a last resort and after what’s happening with jury duty.

Will sort out proper dates once I’m properly available if needed for jury duty which if not picked won’t be too long. Decided to do 3 posts each, 400 word count per post if that’s okay. A week per tie but will allow some flexibility if real life issues come up.

No running commentary though during each other’s debates please and anyone else reading. Please leave any thoughts for the judges voting. Will allow any thoughts on ties between rounds though.

Also if Caito replies being in the maybe pile he can be a back-up if anyone can’t make it. Anyone else interested and others can’t make it, will allow subs before I kick this off but only for first round so they’d have to register interest beforehand. After I kick ties off (for first round if no subs) will allow some leeway but if one posts and the other no-shows after a certain amount of time, it will be a walkover win for them. Will slot subs in for first round if any but for semis and final, it will be definite walkovers in the case of no-shows.

Small update. Haven’t been called in for jury duty yet though been phoning the jurors helpline every day where the message has said “Please be available for callback if not phone helpline after 5.” This latest message basically said “All jurors not been selected please phone tomorrow for instructions” which is new. Hoping that means I can get out of it.

Should have more of an update after tomorrow. Once it’s confirmed I am out of it and have time to host, will get the dates and ties locked in.
