I wouldn't say it was historic, considering what literally happened earlier in the day. It was a good game with a fun setting, though.

This may sound mean but the Colts losing to a better team doesn't feel like that big of a deal to me.

The Jags are gonna win the fucking division aren't they?

Edit. I think we may be about to see Malik in the Titans game. Fork this team.

What a wild ending to the Raiders/Pats game. Lateral pick six for a walk off win? Crazy.

    The NFL this weekend:
    - Patriots lose on a walk-off lateral pick-six
    - Cowboys lose on a walk-off pick-six
    - Tom Brady loses a 17-point lead for the first time ever
    - Colts blow a 33-0 lead, the largest comeback in NFL history

    BONKERS

    Notes:
    - It was a very good weekend in the division for the Bills. The Dolphins probably need to find some balance on offense after seeing success in their run game Saturday, but their defense is certainly going to put the offense in tough spots. We're so late in the season and the Patriots just look like an abhorrent mess offensively. They hit a crappy run of bad breaks late too, to say the least lol. You didn't see enough from Zach Wilson to have a lot of faith in him going forward. This was his moment to get things back on track for his career and I think he underperformed. He produced points but they were generally on out-of-structure plays, and he looks shaky as hell when the pocket collapses.
    - The Bengals really flipped the switch in the second half against the Buccaneers. What a response by them. Pair that with a very poorly-timed collapse by the Ravens, it feels like the division is there for the taking for the Bengals.
    - With the way the last few weeks have gone, the division certainly feels up for grabs between the Titans and Jaguars. No offense to @Rancid_Planet, but I'd rather see the Jags in there and see how they do with learning on the fly. The Colts...yeah. Gross.
    - Many said the AFC West was going to be a bloodbath. It was for an entirely different set of reasons, but this was the first week that all four teams won their games and what a wild way to see that happen. Can't believe the Raiders won the way they did at the end. Based on their schedule, as long as they don't fall on their face, the Chargers should make the playoffs.

    - Injuries and problematic play at QB are starting to pop up in a big way for the Cowboys. Can't imagine they can feel good about how their last two weeks have gone. They're going to have to figure things out quickly or they're set up for a one-and-done appearance. The Eagles played with their food most of the game but it feels like they're still in a pretty good spot as long as they don't hit a sudden injury bug.
    - I feel like the Lions were trying to get away with hoping Zach Wilson would implode, thus kind of trying to play not to lose and it almost burned them. I feel like that could be another pothole they come across next week against the Panthers. This really could've or should've been a game they lost but they did just enough to squeak by. Momentum has got to be at an all-time high for them and they've got a legit shot of the playoffs now.
    - What a disaster from the Buccaneers going from half to half. The offense looked like it was in a total groove and absolutely fell apart after halftime. Brady wants this season to end faster than anyone else, I imagine. I doubt he's done but I assume he's definitely done being in Tampa though.
    - As long as they don't suffer any more injuries, the Niners are going to be a damn problem for everyone. Including the Eagles. Their defense is just so damn fast and don't allow a lot of extra yardage once they get their hands on you. Purdy probably faced the toughest challenge in Seattle. He a few minor hiccups but still generally showed the poise to keep the offense moving. I think they're more dangerous than the Eagles right now.

No offense taken. And no worries it will 100 percent be the Jags.

    We can't score. Full stop.

It feels like a self-fulfilling prophecy in motion with the Titans. They fired the GM and that's an indictment on the personnel and they're trending down, while the Jags are trending up.

Chris Conley was the Titans leading reciever yesterday.

Jalen may be out vs the Cowboys. I didn't even know he was injured but I was checking next weeks lines and saw the Eagles at +6 and I knew something was up so I googled the eagles and yep, shoulder sprain.

Zach Wilson is too reliant on "the big play" meanwhile he can't complete bubble screens.

So apparently no game in the history of the NFL has finished 22-18 until yesterday when cincy beat new England.

    I had cincy by -3.5

    Notes:

    - The AFC East had its issues this week. It really didn't feel like the Bills won their game more than they actually just stole it. The Patriots continue to perplex as their plan on offense looks as minimal as it can be. They're absolutely being carried by their defense at the moment. The Zach Wilson era is officially over for the Jets. He'll find a home next season but it remains to be seen if he can salvage his career as a starter. The Dolphins are struggling tremendously on defense and now the doubters of Tua are going to get that much louder. It's not a good look to go winless in December when you're trying make a playoff push.
    - The Bengals are hitting their stride as a team at the right time. Losing Collins is certainly going to hurt their OL and I wonder what the heck is going on with McPherson. He needs to figure out his issues ASAP.
    - The Browns look like they've wasted resource on Watson but we'll see what happens next season.
    - The Jaguars need to take the division. They're peaking and the Titans are sinking.
    - I have my suspicions about the Chiefs when it comes to a deep run. It's all moot if Mahomes goes nuclear but I'm not sure that I trust their defense to hold up against top-flight offenses. I don't think teams like the Bills or Chargers would be scared to go toe-to-toe with them.

    - It was a great showdown between the Eagles and the Cowboys. I don't know if the MVP case for Hurts took a substantial dip but Minshew certainly held his own. Prescott is pretty much automatic for one catastrophic turnover per game now and that's troublesome when their defense is struggling. I came away more bullish on the Eagles.
    - The Vikings are wild. They play in such a way where they can beat anyone and they truly can lose to anyone. That means it won't shock me if they make a super deep run or if they just fall flat on their face during Wild Card weekend.
    - The Packers got everything they needed this weekend and now have a pretty decent shot of getting in the playoffs. I have zero faith in them but that doesn't mean they won't get in.
    - Damn, Lions. They got wrecked emphatically by the Panthers. That hurts to see when they had all the momentum in the world.
    - It feels like Brady and Evans are pretty snake bit as a duo right now. While Brady has earned the rep, I don't have a ton of faith in him to turn it on in the playoffs. There's just not enough there and he doesn't look right. If the Panthers had someone other than Darnold steering the ship, I think I'd be more in favor of them stealing the division in the end.
    - Mayfield has certainly done a lot in a short amount of time to help rehab his image as a QB. There's going to be QB-needy teams and I'm sure he's helping his cause.
    - The Niners are a damn problem for everyone right now. Their defense is suffocating and they keep the chains moving on offense. Kittle springing loose the last few weeks has really softened the blow of not having Deebo.

Joshua Dobbs starting for the Titans tonight. Given Tannehill is out for the season, I'm unsure whether he's in because all the starters are being say, or if they want to have a look at him to see if he's a better option than Willis for the remainder of the season. Probably a little bit of both. It's not looking good anyway with how the Jags have been playing, and offensive play calling for the Titans has been dog shit. Big off season coming up, as there's enough parts there to go on a run if they patch up key spots and get healthy. New offensive coordinator, a top WR, a new QB and Taylor Lewan coming back at 100% and on an earn it deal - not too much to ask! I'd trade for Carr and Adams honestly, connection is there they've just had no other weapons at Vegas due to injuries.

Dobbs probably has the playbook memorized lol. The kid is a genius. He meant a lot to Tennessee in college during the Butch Jones years. Smart as hell. Reads defenses well. When he was backing up Big Ben in Pittsburgh they'd put headphones on him and have him watch the defense to call out things he saw. He was a masters level aerospace engineer major and if he wasn't playing football he'd be an actual rocket scientist lol.

That said, he was wildly innacurate as a deep ball passer and that's why he's never sniffed a starter job in the NFL.

Just rest up Titans. The only game that matters is next week in Jacksonville.

Vegas man. Over/under was 40, handicap was Dallas -14. So of course it was 27-13 Dallas. They are good.

Actually feel more confident in the Titans with Dobbs under centre. To beat the Jags anyway. It doesn't go beyond the Wildcard round anyway so maybe it's best just to bow out. But you never know once you're at the dance I guess. For the league, it would benefit them getting Lawrence in the playoffs as he's a potential superstar. Wild the youth at the position in the AFC. Mahomes is going to be the veteran of the AFC side of the playoffs in his sixth year in the league regardless of who qualifies at this point, with Carr benched and Tannehill on IR. The pocket passer without a significant scrambling ability is a thing of the past. Feels like this season is the end of an era really, as there's a legitimate possibility Russ and Cousins will be the oldest starters next year. I don't think Brady and Rodgers retire, but it does feel like a fork in the road off season for both the Packers and Bucs.

Considering he almost had more passing yardage in one game than Willis did in three games, my presumption was they were hoping he could still play and get him ready for next week.

Wondering about the Titans interest in Carr next season. He's clearly gone from Vegas and I don't think the Titans will be bringing back Tannehill as he has no guaranteed money on his deal after this year.

My dream is for the Ravens to not sign Lamar, not franchise him and the Titans to pick him up. God that would be sweet.

    Also I want a pony.

If you can swing that, can you please score me a date with Nathalie Emmanuel? Thanks.

I haven’t followed the Raiders train wreck very closely, so I plead relative ignorance as to why Carr is getting thrown under the bus. Compared to the pedestrian QB play this year, I still think that he’s still in the top half of NFL starters. If I’m Tennessee, I definitely make a call to Vegas; the cost to acquire Carr should be fairly reasonable considering the Raiders completely decimated all of their leverage. At the very least he’ll give you 2-4 years at an above average level until you decide if/when Malik or your 2023 QB draft pick can cut it as a starter…

I have to imagine he'll be in relative demand but there's situations that are better - mainly the Jets. I get why Tennessee would want Carr, but why exactly would he want to go there? It's easy to answer both of those questions when looking at the Jets.

The simple answer for Carr being the scapegoat is because other than the owner, the rest of the front office is new. Carr is the old face of the franchise and they covered themselves contractually to create an out if things didn't work. It's smart by a front office's standards but it's not like Carr is entirely to blame for the shortcomings. It's still an organization that has drafted poorly for years, faced injuries to weapons on offense, and was generally hitting a lot of terrible luck/results in terms of sustaining leads. If it worked out well, things could stay the same. If it worked out poorly, Carr was going to be the fall guy because who else could shoulder the blame?

The situation intensifies because of key investments to work with Carr. A top-flight, though slightly "older", wideout in Adams - who would reunite with his old college QB. Sounds great, but it didn't hit top results because the offense got too scattered. Jacobs, who seemed to be destined to be discarded because the team didn't pick up his fifth-year option. He ends up balling out and likely wins the rushing title. Two great weapons and they'll likely join the same fate as Carr in the sense it is hard to imagine a clean path to them staying. The team will justify it in saying this was a one-year experiment with Carr and they provided him with solid weapons to make the most of it and it didn't work. Carr is a fall guy but it's not like McDaniels is infallible here because he couldn't right the ship when things were falling apart in these games they blew. Now there's a remodel on their hands. I will say, it's more likely Adams stays because I doubt Vegas completely nukes the franchise. Jacobs could be tagged but it doesn't make sense for the franchise. If Vegas plans to regroup, you could see options like Jimmy G or an ambitious trade with New England for Mac Jones. The common tie is McDaniels has worked with both QBs and seemingly gotten good results from both.

The more I think about it I don't think Carr is going to get that much interest from the Titans. It's the QB position and the move makes entirely too much sense.

    Notes:

    - Huge, huge implications with the MNF game. The Dolphins look like they're in massive trouble to make the playoffs, and the Patriots look like they may find a way in. The Jets now know they will likely need a QB other than Mike White next season. Luckily for them, they should be a very desirable destination.
    - I don't know what to make of the Browns, nor do I really care.
    - It's for all the marbles next week between the Jags and Titans. I would lean towards Jacksonville but you never know what's going to happen in a one-game scenario. There's a path where both teams in but pardon me as I say that's absolutely dog poop if that happens.
    - The Chiefs are going to be a problem, but I still have my concerns about them. If Mahomes has a subpar game, I don't think I trust their defense to keep the nose up. It might not matter because Mahomes is Mahomes.
    - The Chargers had their best all-around game of the season. They're getting healthy and the run game finally came around today. They'll need that consistently and then Herbert is going to need to make the next step. Their defense is clicking right now.

    - The Eagles really need to get healthy in a hurry. I don't think they're going to survive if they can't get Hurts and Johnson back. Their run defense is struggling and that could destroy them if their offense isn't clicking. It's crazy to think the Eagles could finish anywhere from 1 to 5.
    - Brian Daboll needs to be the Coach of the Year. Plain and simple.
    - The Cowboys still feel like they're dangerous as a threat and easy out.
    - I can't imagine the Vikings feel good as they head towards the playoffs. Again, they can beat anyone and lose to anyone. They're 12-4 with a -19 point differential. Yikes.
    - Not exactly winner take all between the Lions and Packers but both are still alive. I'd rather see the Lions in, but it feels like the Packers are going to get in. Special Teams and Defense are trending up for the Pack.
    - The Bears need a ton of help on the outside on offense and a massive reload on defense.
    - Tampa really looked like they found their footing today. The defense gave up big plays but they were aggressive to the QB. The run game wasn't clicking but the Brady/Evans connection came alive. You just can't count them out.
    - The Niners may have disliked being in Vegas on NYE. Teams lay an egg and this was the closest thing to an egg for them. They still did enough. Defense needs to stay healthy and Purdy needs to stay sharp to be a massive problem for everyone else. I still like their chances.
    - The Seahawks are still alive but I don't really like their chances.

johnson has already said he's delaying surgery so he can be there for the playoffs, and hurts likely plays this week to try and wrap up the top seed, probably against the giants b-team since they've clinched and are locked into the 6 seed. this saints game was ugly. real ugly. but the offense is a different monster when commanded by hurts. this felt very much like a trap game, and we failed the test.

Goes to show how Hurts has elevated himself so much that Philly hinges their chances of even being relevant on him. I also think the playoffs are gonna be more chaotic than we've ever seen.

Steelers have been cardiac kids for the last two weeks and sadly their entire season rests on the Jets. Might as well take a knee every down.

This is an Owen Hart moment if they make them play. The Bills looked rightfully fucked up. They are in no condition to play.

oh come off it. you don't know when it was decided, just when it was announced. it could be an absolute unanimous decision from the jump but this shit still has enough moving parts and ducks that gotta be put in a row to make it actually happen. the whole situation is tragic enough without this fucking moralizing.

I'm pretty sure Skip Bayless just ended his career. He's getting dunked on by NBA guys like Kendrick Perkins and Isaiah Thomas. I doubt he'll be on his show this week after that.

I've got no problem with Skip's tweet. He asked a legitimate question.

I mean, it's in poor taste perhaps, but people saying he should be fired are going drastically overboard.

I wholeheartedly disagree. No one gives a shit about the future of this game over this man's health. Especially so soon after it happened. I don't think the NFL will continue this game unless this guy gets in stable condition. If they try to do the game tomorrow or Wednesday, it's not going to go well for them.

Kind of went on a rant there. The timing on that tweet was completely idiotic and Skip Bayless has to be the only guy that cared about the game more than this man's health.

Not gonna lie, I had the exact same thought. Just the mild consideration of how the logistics of it might work, not at all whether it was the right thing to do or not. Difference I suppose is I wouldn't have dreamt of floating it out publicly and singularly as though it's a real concern relative to what's at stake right now.

Of course he did tag it at the end with the 'irrelevant' part. Which is akin to saying 'but I said with all due respect'.

This reminds me of what happened to Chris Pronger when he took that puck to the chest and collapsed. Thank God he survived.

That stuff is scary and immediate.

I just watched the documentary about Chuck Hughes, the only guy who died on an NFL field. He played for the Lions and dropped dead 50 years ago. I watched that a week ago and it's nuts that I might have just seen it happen in real time.

I agree. Thinking it and posting it online are two different things. Scott Van Pelt handled it better when he talked about it a little bit, in my opinion. Bayless would have been better not posting anything

ya know, just a couple of teams worth billions in a league worth billions with tv contract rights worth billions and likely multple union contracts to consider. just reprehensible that it took them 25 minutes after the man was driven off the field in an ambulance to formally announce they were postponing the game.

but I'm the one being performative here. pfffffftttttt

So Hamlin had set up a GoFundMe to buy toys for kids for the holidays back in 2020 with an initial goal of $2,500. As of late this December it'd reached that goal with $2,921 raised.

As of late, late Monday night into Tuesday morning it'd surpassed $3,000,000 with people rooting for Damar to get well by supporting his fundraising effort.

Kinda wow, and really hope he gets to hear about this soon..

While we are all still hoping for definitive positive news, the sense of guarded optimism coming out of this is perhaps hopeful. Just listened to his friend / marketing rep / family spokesman Jordon Rooney on the Pat McAfee show. No updates on his condition, respecting that the doctors have their job to do, his family are there and they are as good a support system as anyone could ask for. Damar set up the GoFundMe for his foundation to be able to help with a toy drive in 2020, when he was still in college and didn't have any funds, but he wanted to support his community. Now, it's at $4.5 million. Not surprising when people learn about the kind of guy he is, and want to channel their emotions into something positive.

Just read a report that Damar is awake and holding hands with relatives! And his $2500 charity has now grown to over 7 million dollars. Maybe people aren't so bad after all. The Super Bowl should be dedicated to EMTs

The pop when the Bills bring the CPR-providing EMTs onto the field is going to be thunderous.

Doctor says he hasn't spoken yet, but communicating by writing. He asked "Did we win?", and doctors said they told him yes.

So what do we all think of the AFC playoff decisions?

I'm good with the neutral site title game scenario and not so much with the coin toss for a supposed Cincy/Balt wild card game.

If the neutral site proposal is good enough for the title game why can't it suffice for a potential wild card matchup?

My thoughts exactly. Talk about the right answer staring you right in the face. I don't get it.

Just a guess but while they can certainly find a stadium to play in within the roughly 9 or 10 day turnaround time, it might be hard to fill it with fans. Having a playoff game in a half full neutral stadium is lame. But theoretically, if they announce the potential AFC title game location 3 or 4 weeks in advance, they might have a shot to fill it up by letting Chiefs/Bills/Bengals fans plan for it.

Overall I don't hate the choices they made but my vote would have been to simply call it a no-contest and let the seeds fall where they did, and play out the playoffs normally. 14-3 Chiefs would trump 13-3 Bills. Bengals would win the division. Etc.

No thanks to the last part. While I understand there's not a perfect solution to make everyone happy the notion of damn near handing a bye and home field throughout to KC (after having already lost heads up to Buff) and handing a division title and an initial home field to Cincinnati (after having lost heads up once and having worse tiebreakers across the board to Balt) just doesn't sit well at all.

Neither team wants this game…holy shit…

Granted, I watch very few of these team’s games, so maybe their style of play is just boring and ineffective as fuck? Is that’s it?

A couple of general questions: A) How is QB play so bad at this level? B) How are OC/QB coaches so bad at this level? What exactly do they do they do to justify their stupid high salaries and 100+ hour workweeks? I’ve seen better game management/QB development jobs at the high school level. Holy fuck…

Dear Trevor Lawrence, the only things coming out of your mouth postgame better be compliments to your defense and criticism of your own game.

Because you sure as hell didn’t earn this one.

I agree. And we'd only be further Texaning to have the number 1 pick essentially all season just to meaninglessly lose it on the last day only to trade all of the draft capital we've accumulated to trade back up to that spot.

    I can see it now..

Likely either Bryce Young or CJ Stroud. Unless Chicago can't find a dance partner to move down, then I'd assume either Jalen Carter or Willie Anderson.

    Notes (Playoff Teams):

    - The Chiefs appear to have HFA unless they face the Bills in the AFC Championship Game, where that would be played on a neutral field. Still maintaining the same feeling with the Chiefs as I've had the last several weeks.
    - The biggest concern I have with the Bills would be if they're riding too much on adrenaline. Actually, that would be my second concern. The first would be Josh Allen in the red zone. He seems way too feast or famine when it comes to that critical area of the field.
    - The Bengals feel like they've got some swagger heading into the playoffs. They definitely don't fear their opponent, but it will likely come down whether or not Joe Burrow will have time to throw the ball.
    - The Jaguars survived a win-and-in game against the Titans, mainly due to their defense. I would be very concerned about their ability to run the ball because that feels like it can be very good or very bad without any rhyme or reason.
    - The Chargers make the long trek to Jacksonville. It's going to be interesting to see how Justin Herbert and Trevor Lawrence deal with the moment. The Chargers don't appear to be the same team that the Jaguars saw back in Week 3 (Herbert was hurt, and the Chargers didn't have three starters). It's up in the air whether or not they'll have their deep threat in Mike Williams. The running game for both teams may dictate who wins this one.
    - The Ravens are in disarray right now, and we don't even know who the QB is going to be for them.
    - The Dolphins squeaked in at the end. We also don't know who will be the QB in this game and it's a familiar foe in the Bills. The Dolphins D needs to toughen up in a hurry.

    - The Eagles saw Jalen Hurts come back this week and things rounded back into form a bit.
    - The Niners appear to be getting healthy going into the playoffs. I've been slightly concerned by their defense over the last two games but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. If the moment isn't too big for Brock Purdy, they're going to be a very tough out.
    - The Vikings still remain the same to me. They can beat anyone or lose to anyone. They're the only team to record at least 13 wins and have a negative point differential.
    - The Buccaneers might finally assume the role I had for them: not very good but dangerous because Tom Brady is Tom Brady. If he's going to have time to throw, I think they'll be able to hang around in the game.
    - The Cowboys really have been trending down, despite their record, over recent weeks. They just can't seem to really slow anyone down and Dak Prescott is almost assumed to throw an interception each game now.
    - The Giants are going to play tough but I imagine they're just simply outmanned and outgunned going into their matchup. They're trending up as a franchise, though.
    - The Seahawks are a big benefactor of the top of the NFC North beating each other up. They're not scared of the Niners but I don't think they can beat them.

    Quick Hits on the Fallen:
    - The self-fulfilling prophecy came true for the Titans.
    - The Colts are truly terrible. Case in point: they made the Texans look decent.
    - The Jets are going to be a threat if they pick right at QB.
    - The Bears have a crap ton of cap space and now will likely replenish their cupboard with the top-overall pick. Just land the plane and the franchise will be developing quickly.
    - The Rams feel like they may have a new coach next season. The writing on the wall seems to suggest Sean McVay is going to take some time off.
    - The Lions feel heartache in a new way with seeing themselves eliminated shortly before Sunday Night Football on the final week of the season. Hopefully they don't trend backwards next season, because they're poised to be a significant threat in the NFC.
    - The Packers didn't answer the bell with the circumstances favoring them this week. Nothing there defensively, OL couldn't really keep Rodgers comfortable, and Rodgers had his share of miscues.

    Early Wild Card predictions:
    - Bills
    - Bengals
    - Chargers
    - Niners
    - Vikings (no confidence there)
    - Buccaneers

Per Elias: This year’s Wild Card round will feature all rematches from the regular season, the fifth time since the 1970 merger that every game in the opening round of the playoffs is a rematch from the regular season (2022, 2009, 2004, 1994, 1992).

Helluva no-show by Green Bay in a win-and-in home game. While not-at-all impressed by LaFleur’s game calling, Rodgers had very little magic and looked almost disinterested unless it came to chirping his own head coach. Cue year 10 of Green Bay QB1 holding the franchise hostage in the off-season with more “will-he/won’t-he” drama.

Really like what Campbell is building in Detroit. If I understand correctly, Goff is on the books for two more years at ~$21M per; if they can find the heir apparent at 18 or 49 and have him watch and learn for two years that would be great. The NFC North could be up for grabs next year, depending on what Rodgers decides in the offseason and which Kirk Cousins shows up in 2023.

Kingsbury out in Arizona. Houston continues to be a joke of a franchise by firing yet another head coach. The Texans GM Caserio must be down to his final strike now? Given he’s hired and fired both Culley and Smith…

The Bears, by trading down from #1, could fix 3-4 problems at once. Justin Fields deserves the 2023 season to show development in the passing game, to do that he needs 1-2 legit weapons plus some help on the OL.

At least the Colts ended up with the 4th pick. Depending on whether or not the three picks in front of them trade down, they should have a shot at a top two QB since CHI and ARI probably won't be taking QBs.

Chicago has to be trading down, because there are plenty of teams that need a QB. So Indianapolis won't get a top 2 QB unless they trade up.

Tomlin managing to keep his streak of never having a losing (sub-.500) season intact is remarkable.

Really really good to read that Damar Hamlin has been released by the hospital.

Titans firing coaches all over the place today. Todd Downing is gone after 2 of rhe worst seasons at oc I've ever seen. Last time I saw an oc this bad in Nashville he became the head coach of the Packers.
