If we've ever learned anything about Brady it's to never count him out.

    It's like his dad said.

    Kicking and screaming.

But I'm with knee. I want to see him give it a shot somewhere with a less stubborn coach.

I bet Brady will play again next season. And given that the Dolphins publicly said Tua is their guy for next year (which they could still go back on, but probably won’t), I’d say Niners, Raiders & Bucs are the favorites to land him.

If he retires that’s cool too tho. He made it to 45 like he wanted to do.

That was an ass kicking. After the beating Dak has taken the last few weeks, to come back with arguably the best performance of his career is impressive as hell. Other than the kicker, they had a dominant game. Tampa teased for maybe 2-3 weeks of the season but they never really had any juice. While I think he could peacefully call it a career, I don't think Brady will call it quits. The guy can still play and sling it. He can do that, but he needs pretty much everything positioned for him to be comfortable, mainly the line. If he doesn't have any feeling he has time, he just bails on the play now. If he's given a line that can give him 3-4 seconds and he doesn't have to rely just throwing right at the line of scrimmage, he can still be a positive to a team that wants to win.

Chargers fire the oc so that means the hc is staying put. I feel like they may regret that by the end of next season.

Ranking the remaining QBs in these playoffs, criteria being if I could pluck them away to be the starter for my team heading into the future..

    Patrick Mahomes
    Joe Burrow
    Josh Allen
    Trevor Lawrence
    Jalen Hurts
    Dak Prescott
    Brock Purdy
    Daniel Jones

Toughest one might have, or for me anyway of course, been Allen vs Lawrence. I think we've seen Allen's plateau already - and a very strong one at that for sure - while I can easily see a continuous steadily rising trajectory for Lawrence that I wouldn't be surprised at all to see rise above Allen's at some point.

As a Chargers fan, I can tell you this was the first thing that had to happen this offseason. You may be right in terms of regret, but the offensive scheme was beyond gross and it was a much bigger issue than Staley.

I love Herbert and just want to see him in a system that works. If you're right and this is the first step they needed to take then good for the Chargers.

The Titans are hiring Ran Carthon, 49ers director of player personnel, as their new general manager. Hope it works out as obviously this hire was done with Vrabel's seal of approval.

Herbert is easy to like but you can't justifiably say you knew what the identity of the offense was and that's a big problem. They couldn't run the ball and had no team speed and weren't willing to be aggressive. Reportedly, Herbert threw at or behind the line of scrimmage on 22 percent of his total attempts. JUSTIN HERBERT ranked 31 out of 35 QBs who qualified in air yards per attempt. Herbert deserves grief because he has some still develop as a young QB, but this falls on the head of the coordinator because he couldn't, ya know, coordinate a tangible offense.

Tennessee plucking a piece off San Francisco's organization doesn't seem like a bad idea at all. I feel like Brady is going to be linked to them as a dark horse option next season but I kind of have to see that to believe that. Feels like an if you build it, they will come scenario for an offense when he should be a missing piece to an offense. Just doesn't click.

Vrabel has said some things that indicate to me Tannehill will be back. I think they see this next season as a rebuild year and since the qb class is weak why bother replacing him?

There isn't much of a difference between the top 3. I believe in Mr. Irrelevant based on winning percentage. Lawrence makes too many mistakes, and the bottom 3 are along for the ride. I feel Hurts is overrated because he's got a great line in front of him. Jones has improved a lot, but I think he's hit his ceiling. I've never felt like Dak is anything more than middle of the pack at best.

    - Judging a QB on a team stat, within a qb friendly system and a loaded roster, based on a tiny sample size, huh, ok..

    - How many mistakes did Peyton make his first 1+ into the league?

I am not convinced that Lawrence is the next Peyton, simply because there have been too many Zach Wilsons who have also looked like Peyton when it comes to their mistakes early in their NFL careers. I get there's only a tiny sample size, but if you want to compare Lawrence to Peyton, based on too many early career picks, then why not look at early career success, and compare Brock to Brady?

Either way it's a huge leap. You make a fair point about Purdy having a loaded roster - the team is set up for anyone competent to win. I like to turn that around and point out that QBs tend to be over valued, so when in doubt, take the guy that costs less so you can spend more on other positions. Purdy earns $705,000 compared to TLaw's $9.2 million.

Lawrence and Manning also have #1 overall pick and multiple year starting QB in college, top HS recruit, multiple time Heisman finalist and bringing their team to the playoffs in Year 2 in common. They do tick a lot of the same boxes.

My historical comps (even though no one asked)

Burrow = Montana. Super calm and cool under pressure
Mahomes = Favre. Otherworldly talent but the game is so easy he gets sloppy.
Allen = Elway. All the physical tools but has to carry the team on his back. If he is not A+, they lose.
Lawrence = Manning. Bred since he was a kid to be a starting NFL QB.
Jones = I was calling him Alex Smith (as a compliment) but I think he is even better now. Need a new one.
    Hurts = Cam
Prescott = Any good ideas? Can't think of one.
Purdy = too early for anything…

I am not saying Lawernce is the next Manning but his portfolio of work gives you a lot to look at.

I hope Purdy is good and its the next Tom Brady story. However right now his resume has me hoping. I am less confidant in it.

    I like this.

    Maybe Prescott = Randall Cunningham.

I agree with you that Daniel Jones has been more impressive of late, but I think the Alex Smith comparison is fair. If he has postseason success, maybe he will become like Eli?

My first thought about a historical comparison for Allen was Ben Rothlesburger, but I like your choice of Elway better.
Similarly, I thought Hurts = Vick, who I always thought was better than Cam.

I love Burrow, and the Joe Cool resemblance to Montana fits, but Burrow isn't on Mount Rushmore yet.

I would describe all the comps as "Best Case Scenario" for their careers. Everything has to go right but it is their potential.

I think Allen is Favre's head in Elway's body. He has the gunslinger attitude like Favre but he has the physical tools of Elway. So either fits.

Favre was the best I could think of for Mahomes too with the backyard improv style and can-make-any-throw arm so I wanted to find someone else for Allen.

Vick is a good comp for Hurts. I just picked Cam because of the physical nature of Hurts. Lamar is ultra quick like Vick; Hurts has that "glide" running where he doesn't look like he is moving fast but he is. I actually think Randall is a good comp for Hurts now that you mention him.

Dak is tough because his highs and lows are so different. He also barely runs anymore (but still can) so that makes it tricky. At his best, he has a little Steve Young, with his strength and speed but he is not that good all the time. Who is a "poor man's Steve Young"?

I wasn't making a direct comp to Manning (though like _me pointed out the milestones are hard to ignore). Much prefer to let a guy's career play out a little maybe. And that's really more the point, let a guy's career play out beyond his first 1+ year of mistakes. Of which there weren't only mistakes, of which there was also a really sharp trajectory rise upward throughout year 2, not so coincidentally unlike Peyton as well.

And as long as we're looking at both Lawrence and Purdy why not compare the things they're asked to do in their respective offenses and with what guidance. Let's assume we swapped them, and had Purdy start his career with Jax last year under Urban Meyer and Lawrence this year under Kyle Shannahan in SF. Quite a switch, huh? Pretty clear to me who's covering more ground growth and development-wise.

KC dodged a bullet, hopefully Mahomes’ injury isn’t that bad.

Kind of looking forward to a neutral-site AFC Championship…

The Jaguars might have had a really good shot at stealing that, all things considered, if they could have opened up the offense a bit better in the middle portion of the game. The offense felt too tethered to the line of scrimmage and they couldn't spread the Chiefs thin. I think they're a team definitely on the rise. They need to work on getting more from their LBs and hope that Calvin Ridley isn't washed. Mahomes' ankle is going to be monitored all week like it's nothing else. I will say, it's quite impressive that they nearly got to 30 points with him hobbled most of the game and they got next to nothing from their wideouts. They'll hit the drawing board again in the offseason to try to find more weapons to compliment Kelce, but it may not matter if Mahomes just can stay upright.

Somehow there were two losers in the late game: the Giants and the Vikings. The Giants got throttled early and could never come back from it. The story for most of the season was that Daboll was establishing the culture there and had the players buying in. He was essentially getting them on the right path and it appears that may be the cause. That said, they need a lot more help in terms of talent in order to get to where they ultimately want to go, because leadership at the top can only take them so far when they run into a buzzsaw. The Chiefs had to scratch and claw a bit out of their bye and it seems like the Eagles got to kind of ease back into things. It'll still hinge a bit on how long Lane Johnson can stay upright, but the offense is really going to cause a problem for the opposition next weekend.

I didn't like Daboll going for it on 4th and 8 from the 40 or whatever it was down 7-0 in the first. That sent the message to his players that said "we can't win guys. Got to go for it on every 4th down." The team had no fire after that.

It's been pretty bad. I think how good the games were last weekend spoiled us a bit too.

There was one team with a shaky OL and then the other team was the Bengals. Quite a jarring result to see the Bengals operate so well with a makeshift line and the Bills couldn't attack that. Part of that was due to the scheme the Bengals ran, but the Bills looked way too passive defensively. The Bengals certainly aren't afraid of going to Arrowhead or playing the Chiefs, so that should be a fun matchup. As for the Bills, they've gone through it all over the course of the season. Their defense took on a lot, to say the least, in terms of injury. On offense, they've really got to find a reliable second weapon on the outside. Gabe Davis only seems to be up to the task in the playoffs and even then it is shaky. This matchup also suggests they need to look to make enhancements to their OL.

Dallas lost most of its mojo from Tampa. Dak Prescott looked so sharp Monday and then answered with an incredibly flat performance. Losing Tony Pollard certainly hurt, not having a second outside weapon hurt too, but Prescott made some pretty tough decisions. The Dallas defense really held their ground for most of the game but just lost steam in the second half. Both teams really had to grind it out offensively. San Francisco got just enough on that 91-yard drive to take the lead (a ridiculous Kittle catch and two favorable penalties). This was definitely the toughest defense Brock Purdy has faced this season and he held up relatively well. Should really be an interesting matchup of schemes between the Eagles and Niners.

Four best teams are in the Conference Championship Games. Let's go.

Dak was so late on some of those throws he still hasn't thrown them.

To be a fly on the wall in Jerry World as that spoiled brat throws everyone and everything under the bus except his clueless GM (himself), as for the first time ever he cannot bully/buy his way to success.

    I fucking love it.

The window isn't closed for these Cowboys quite yet but it does likely begin to shut now. Schultz will want money, Pollard is due a deal but with a broke leg that might not happen. They can franchise one of them. But Dan Quinn is probably gone after this year unless Jerry really just backs the dump truck full of cash into his driveway. Defense isn't going to get better. Offense really needs one more weapon for Dak because he really is Middle of the Pack - Dak and he was worse without Cooper this year.

Feels like if they were going to do anything this was the year, and really last year should have been the year.

They can let Schultz walk. They'll tag Pollard. They really need Gallup to show that post-ACL bump that players tend to show.

Denver hired Hackett thinking they could get Rodgers from Green Bay since the two are buddies.

On an unrelated note the Jets who may be in the market for a veteran qb just hired Hackett as their new OC.

The Jets might be a LOT better if they landed Aaron Rodgers over Zach Wilson, but without Aaron, Hackett will be worse than he was with Russell Wilson.

But it also might depend on what else, if anything, the Jets would have to give up for Aaron, above the $60 million he's supposed to get this year.

I'd be hoping for Carr. More good years ahead. But I do get the thinking. The Jets feel like the defense is championship ready and all they need is the qb and they're not wrong.

I honestly thought the Jets were going to stick with Zach Wilson until this happened

He seems to understand that in pretty much any scenario he's going to have to rework his deal, so I wouldn't get too caught up on that specific number.

Man, would that have been dumb lol. Not a dig at you, to be clear, but that would have been a pretty poor mindset if they had that. It is the Jets, but come on lol.

If the question is Rodgers or Carr, the more good years ahead angle isn't exactly the one I'd be chasing. If I feel I've got a roster that is championship ready on the other end and the QB can fix the other, I'd go for the one who has the higher ceiling. That would be Rodgers, in my opinion. Again, this is the Jets we are talking about lol. When you're easily in the tougher conference and have a barrage of QBs you're going to have to try to battle through just to have a chance to get to the playoffs, if the iron is remotely close to hot then you've got to strike.

Also on Hackett: being the OC is a much different scenario than being the leader of everyone as a HC. He gave it a try in the big boy seat, failed miserably and settles back in the role that's probably better suited for him as of this moment.

I'm not saying I have a low opinion of the Jets, I mean it's the Jets but I've also seen them have a few really good seasons over the years so it's not like the Jets are immune to success and again they're almost there again so they're doing something right.

But yeah I did think they might be making the choice to stick with Wilson for one more year. This year's draft class is kind of weak, the hc continously saying to the press that "the plan is for Zach Wilson to start again" and also the chance that they just might not be in love with Carr or Rodgers. I honestly wouldn't blame them if they did keep him around one more year but I love when teams think the time to win is now. If they do manage to get Rodgers or Carr those guys are walking into a locker room that wants to win. That's just fun shit right there.
