    ROYAL RUMBLE 2022

I know no one cares, but for the first time in 22 years, I am not watching Royal Rumble this year.

    Reasons being:

There's just no excitement for me this year,
    their roster doesn't intrigue me,
surprise entrants can be seen on Youtube after the fact,
WWE actions the past year have done nothing but piss me off
and who gives a flying fuck about another Brock Lesnar title reign?

I know I am full of hot air, but WWE has gotten so bad for me that I don't want to give them any of my money, no matter how much they don't give a shit.

What reasons would you say that I should reconsider and should get the PPV? I really am curious to see why you guys are watching the Rumble this year and why you continue to follow WWE? Or do you agree with my points and don't care to follow WWE anymore?

Very curious to see what some of you have to say about it.

You have the opportunity to give someone else here a ridiculous name and avatar for a while if you sign up for the Rumble Game of Death? I’m going to tweak it slightly (not too much) this time and hope it passes without incident lol.

Besides from that, respect and understand your reasoning. However, whether disillusioned with the product or not, Rumble is always a fun party and gambling opportunity so it’s one I personally will always watch no matter how shit the product gets. I suspect there are a lot of casuals out there who will watch it just to gamble and because it’s the Rumble.

Do what you want. Doesn't matter to me. Plenty of masochistic folks continue to watch despite being consistently dissatisfied with the product/company so I respect someone who doesn't just talk about it, they be about it. And I'm not one of those folks that feels like they have to convince other folks to be into the thing that I'm into so I'm not going to bother trying to turn you around. Your reasons all make sense to me.

Randolph, I like you for 2 reasons. You're from Michigan and your name is very similar to my ex gf from Detroit.

With that said, Lashley v. Lesnar alone is worth watching but you obviously aren't thrilled with him being champion so nevermind lol.

But did this need a thread? You could've just waited for the Rumble thread to be created or gone in the VIP thread and said your peace instead of making it some big deal. Wow, 22 years you're not going to watch when you only have to pay a few bucks to see it whereas just 10 years ago when the product was still pretty whack if not worse you were shelling out $50-60 no problem right?

I hope this is the best Rumble and you miss out--but most people who make these "look at me" posts/threads wind up watching it lol.

Apparently the wwe universe as this Monday's raw got its highest ratings in over 3 months.

    Getting the Rumble This Year

I know everyone cares, but for the 33rd time in 33 years, I am watching Royal Rumble this year.

    Reasons being:

There's just so much excitement for me this year,
    their roster does intrigue me,
surprise entrants can be seen on Youtube after the fact, but it's not really a surprise once you know who it is so watching it live is better
WWE actions the past year have done nothing but please me
and I give a flying fuck about another Brock Lesnar title reign

I know I am full of helium, but WWE has gotten so good for me that I do want to give them any of my money, no matter how much they do give a shit.

What reasons would you say that I should reconsider and shouldn't get the PPV? I really am curious to see why you guys aren't watching the Rumble this year and why you don't continue to follow WWE? Or do you agree with my points and do care to follow WWE anymore?

Very not curious to see what some of you have to say about it.

Watching the Rumble is always one of 2 WWE shows per year I try to watch day of. Rumble always has so many surprises. It seems like you're going into this with your mind already made up that it's going to suck.

As far as Lesnar I'm intrigued because I expected Heyman to be off TV for some time and not just coming right back and aligning with Lesnar. I'm curious to see what happens between Lesnar, Reigns, Heyman in the story.

Also intrigued about Omos. Biggest person in the Rumble yet and wonder how long he’ll last, how many he’ll take out and how many people it will take to get him out.

Peacock is included with my cable/internet service, so I am looking forward to watching the Rumble live.

And Johnny Knoxville alone is worth the time.

WWE just came off a terrific Day One premium event, and for the most part, they put on compelling storytelling that I look forward to.

My terrible track record at predicting the PPV results shows I am still surprised at the results, and since surprises are the spice of life, I will enjoy it this year.

I really am not trying to be a grandstanding asshole sitting on a throne and demanding that people convince me to spare the Rumble's very life, despite that's what it looks like.

I have been getting the Rumble every year for two decades and it was hard to see all my friends who usually watch it with me dwindle down to just me and one other guy. People move on for various reasons, but the great Rumble in 2020 got a few of them back for 2021 and a lot of attention again and it appeared a few of them were going to come back to watch. Well, the constant news of releases, low ratings (despite the new 3 month high, it's still dog shit), and the lack of build up to this Rumble has killed any chances of bringing them back. I have also lost the love to get it this year, despite getting the Rumble every year, and have decided not to give them my pitiful money.

As a Detroit sports fan, not giving the Lions a red cent of your money, no matter how insignificant it is, is all you can do to force real change. It won't do anything, but why give a company money after they have disappointed you time and time again?

Some of you guys are as loyal as you can get to this company and I am legitimately curious on what keeps you guys going. That's why I did the thread. If it was just a post to announce my departure from the Rumble, a quick DON'T LET THE DOOR HIT ON THE ASS ON THE WAY OUT would be warranted.

Do you still pay for PPVs though? I just feel like "getting it" has lost meaning when it's on a streaming service you pay $9.99 (or $5 if you don't mind ads) a month for.

Are you canceling Peacock? For good? For the month? Or are you keeping Peacock and just choosing not to watch the Rumble?

I'm only loyal to pro wrestling/sports entertainment whatever people want to call it.

I can't speak on your friends. Like you said, they were already starting to or already had dipped out which is normal--most people over the age of 10 don't keep watching "wrasslin" It's even worse now because it's not the cool thing to watch like it was during certain parts of the 80's and 90's (remember, even the 90's WWF only had maybe 3 solid years that decade--1990, 1998, and 1999). I'm not even sure what was so great about Royal Rumble 2020 because then the pandemic hit and well....Losing the fans takes you out of this shit. I probably spent more time watching old wrestling from my youth than any modern promotion solely because they didn't have fans. That's why AEW and NXT, despite it not really being much better, was a little more enjoyable to watch simply because they had humans.

It's on the Peacock, if you can't figure out 5-10 bucks a month I hear ya man times are tough. Royal Rumble to me, it's never been about the build. It's about what happens in that match. Sometimes you get people mixing it up that have never touched, sometimes you get a few crazy surprise entrants, returns....

Honestly Randy, the last ppv that I would throw my hands up and call it a day would be the Royal Rumble. Especially this year. I get you're not a Lesnar guy so the dream match with him and Lashley doesn't matter. But how can you look at the roster and say "That guy is for sure winning!" Impossible.

Again, I'm curious what was so special about 2020---especially if you're so negative toward Lesnar because that motherfucker eliminated half the participants lol. Were they all jazzed up about Charlotte winning? Seemed a lot of people were sour that Shayna didn't. Were they excited for Roman Reigns v. Corbin?? I did like the strap match with Fiend v. Daniel Bryan...I wasn't high on the fact Goldberg beat The Fiend the following ppv though.

So yeah it's weird they were all pumped for WWE after the Rumble 2020 considering a lot of people were not happy with it and were definitely not happy with a lot of booking decisions made way before the pandemic killed half the business.

Goldberg has one match left on his deal with Vince, so I'd rather he have a surprise Rumble appearance than have him take up a spot at Mania.

So you've paid the $50 or whatever every year up until now? Even with the network and now Peacock? I just don't know why you wouldn't just sub to it for a month instead.

Explain how Royal Rumble is a pay per view if you have Peacock. I think it's time they stop calling it that because it's not a pay per view if "per view" is broken down to like a quarter a view lol.

Again, it is not about the cost or economics. I wouldn't go to a Lions game if they gave me a ten dollar ticket and I lived 5 minutes away. It's principle damnit!

These were guys that were watching with me for years after wrestling stopped being cool. It was just a love of the most fun wrestling event of the year. This year, it just became more of "what's the point" with them and I decided not to participate either.

And the Rumble is the last event I threw my hands up and won't watch this year. I don't watch anything else but Youtube highlights and descriptions from here, if I was interested in a specific match. I rarely do that anymore. I react negatively to wrestlers I liked getting released and the same wash, rinse, repeat happens every month with these guys.

Just sell the damn company Vince or hand it over to someone who gives a shit!

Vince does give a shit that's why he's trimming the fat we've been asking him to do for years!

How can you get mad about wrestlers being released when all you do is supposedly watch youtube highlights? That's a weird approach. You don't care enough to actually watch the shows but you get mad when someone gets released? Shouldn't you be HAPPY since you're so negative toward WWE?

That's why I just think you're full of shit lol. You're going to watch the product. You are already giving them clicks and views and in this day and age, that's worth more than signing up to Peacock for $5 a month.

I just don't get the logic in being angry that a wrestler is released from a company you don't even watch lol. I'd be fucking thrilled if wrestlers I liked were in a shit promotion finally being freed to go elsewhere.

You made a thread about how you aren't going to watch the Rumble, and how you get mad about wrestlers being released from the WWE despite not liking the product lol.

I understand what you're saying, I'm really just trying to find out if you've been paying for the pay per views separately all these years instead of just paying the $10. I'm too cheap to understand that part, if so.

For fuck's sakes, no. I was getting the Network since 2015 like everyone else. That wasn't the fucking point.

The only part in my long winded response that still bugs me is you not really watching WWE and being mad that people you like were released. Like who? Who have you been watching that was released that pissed you off? Because they still have too many wrestlers and they have some really, really good wrestlers.

I find WWE pretty much unwatchable at this point despite being a big fan for 20 years. But I'll still watch the Rumble. The last few Rumble events have been really good. I tend to enjoy even the shittier rumble matches at least somewhat. And Brock/Lashley definitely has my interest. Feels like a proper dream match, some 15 years in the making.

No one cares of my announcement, but it tied into me asking why other people continue to support WWE, despite my issues with it. "I know one cares I am watching the Rumble, but I am curious why people do continue to watch the product" is the point I was trying to get at. I don't like romantic comedies, but I wonder why others do. Not horrible to want to know

Sometimes you just figure out something you did after the fact was a bad idea. I know you have never regretted posting anything here, but others have the ability for regret.

The only part in my long winded response that still bugs me is you not really watching WWE and being mad that people you like were released. Like who? This is the funny thing about wrestling and sports. Despite the fact that I haven't watched it regularly in forever, I still support many of the wrestlers with WWE. I still want WWE to improve itself like I want to see the Lions improve by the owners selling to someone who gives a shit. I stopped watching because their product has gotten bad, but I don't blame the wrestlers. I blame the writers, the executives, and ultimately, McMahon. I will not support the company as long as it is run the way it is. But I still like the wrestlers who have to wrestle under these conditions. You can support the employees of a company that sucks, you know?

When all of these wrestlers that I did like started getting unceremoniously released, it's not going to drive me to love the company more. It makes me hate them more for dumping successful wrestlers who have been misused by terrible management for quite a while now. Did I like the Lions more for chasing Calvin Johnson and Barry Sanders into retirement? No.

I grew up with WWE like you have and I don't like that it is in the current state it is in. It feels the same way like I do with the Lions, because that is the local team I grew up with, but I cannot continue to support them if I want to see real change. The only way a company like that will ever change is if it starts losing money. Not much I can do on that front except to stop giving them my money.

The fact that you said WWE still has too many wrestlers makes me believe you are of the complete opposite opinion of me, and that's cool. I didn't expect guys on a wrestling forum to see things exactly like I do. Dialogue is great, even when it goes in a direction that you didn't expect. This still was a bad idea though, but I wanted to get some clarifications out there.

After Day 1, I went to cancel the Network. Nothing particularly bad about the show, I just don't enjoy it much these days to justify it, what with having pretty much every streaming service going and I recently started paying for AEW on Fite as well. No that it's much, but whatever.

When it said the subscription would end on January 8th or whatever, I decided to hold on to it until the next payment was due.

So basically, I still want to see the Rumble and will cancel after that. Will get it again for 'Mania, probably, and then cancel again until next January.

I don't think it's a bad idea at all to voice your opinion.

What I still don't understand is after all that not one mention of a single wrestler you were a fan of that you didn't watch that you were pissed off that was released. Like who? You've mentioned the Detroit Lions in almost every response to me, dude I'm not a Lions fan and I don't see how that is an answer to me wondering who you are mad about getting released from a company you don't even watch.

Look....WWE makes billions. You not giving them $5 isn't going to do shit lol. Being pissed off when they release wrestlers you like, who you can't even name, isn't doing your blood pressure any good either lol.

But I get it....The Detroit Lions have fucking sucked dick for 50-60 years and you think by you not supporting them financially that means anything. I don't spend a dime on the Washington Redskins (my team) and they still suck. They're not going "oh guys we're not making as much money we better do something!!" That's not how it works at all. Name one NFL team that started losing money and then magically turned it around?

Royal Rumble is one of my favorite events. Always has been. I enjoy seeing who is going to do the logical thing and enter, then immediately nope out of the ring and hang around out of the way. And the mini-stories they tell during it. Austin eliminating guys one after the other, then getting cocky and sitting on the top turnbuckle looking at his wrist for the next one. Then Bret Hart's music plays and Austin is looking scared and shocked. Camera work on that one was incredible. The inevitable big hoss showdown. And then who is going to be in the Final Four. Even when they start doing stuff that aggravates me, like that one one time they had Kane and Big Show just gingerly eliminating all the potential up and comers or guys that needed a good showing. Or where someone does a good elimination or a good spot to save themselves, and is immediately tossed out before you can even enjoy it. It's a fun match to watch, and the surrounding matches are usually good, too.

Now, with all the hubbub over releases, there is a morbid curiosity I have for how they were going to fill out the rumbles, especially the women's one. Gotta say I'm intrigued as to if Mickie James is going to be a one-off or if they might have a few more Impact women. Men's side, too. I would expect they'd fill it out with NXT stars as well, so this year's could be highly unpredictable. This is good.

The Rumble has always been an exciting time, but this is the first year where I feel complete apathy towards WWE. They could do whatever they like at this point, the show is still unwatchable for me. I'll watch this year's RR, but WWE is not getting my money ever again, not until their product is worth it.

This is how I felt last year. I just didn’t care about WWE or the Rumble. I didn’t watch a second of WWE TV last year. Not Raw, not Mania, nothing. It just holds no interest for me at the moment. And it’s not even to say I’m bored by wrestling because I’m not, I’m just bored with WWE.

I watched the last several Rumbles prior to 2021 with my buddy and I reached out to him to see if he was going to watch it live this year. Figured maybe I’d at least hang out and just have a good time seeing a friend with it on in the background. He said he canceled his network subscription a couple months ago because he was bored with WWE too.

I watched Smackdown for the first time in almost a year and it was pleasant. I didn't read spoilers and news reports.

If you haven't watched WWE in over a year how do you know it's bad? Based on over people's thoughts?

You and the other narcissists with no real lives love to act like your pitiful $5-10 a month was somehow keeping WWE, a billion dollar global entertainment entity, afloat lol.

They do not give a shit about you.

The shows aren't that bad. Released wrestlers you care about that for a day or two then find something else to complain about. WWE is far from perfect but it's not the dumpster fire some, who don't even watch it, make it out to be.

In hindsight, wish I had saved my money and went to Rumble instead of Full Gear. BUT, I didn't exactly pay that much and Minneapolis is 3 hours away compared to 7-8 hours to STL.

Of course the same guy who freaked out over a joke about fragile x syndrome would think it's hilarious for my newborn to get covid. The hypocrisy knows no bounds.

Spectrum Diesel on another tear. Accuses me of being a pedo and now wants Bert's baby to get COVID.

@Randolph, surely the rumors of non-WWE talent participating in the Rumble this year is enough of a curiosity to check out the event?

That's what always kind of draws me in. The winner is usually a top tier player. I don't think we're going to see Montez Ford get the W here. But I also get curious as to who might show up. Chris Masters? Brodus Clay? Moose?

You bring up a good point. What if they did have someone like Moose be a surprise #30 and win the damn thing. Place would go nuts. They can get to Brock and Roman some other way, but use this Rumble to really do something different. Plus, isn't Vince famous for saying he can make a star out of anyone? What better way to put that to the test than to have a guy from another promotion, one that actively tried to kill your brand, as that guy. Not only can he say, "see, I turned your guy into a mega star" while at the same time needling AEW by saying "you had Omega and then Christian as your title holders, and it did nothing for you."

Don't know how USA or Fox would feel about another channel getting more eyeballs on a competing product, though.

This is my fantasy booking brain at work. But, like everything else in the universe, anything is possible.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't believe Impact has a tv deal of any kind right now. I thought they were exclusively on Twitch or whatever.

Moose was just a random name, idk if the place would blow up for him but I also know the majority of fans that are at least watching are smart to who he is.

I was just watching Rumble 1996 and they had like 5-6 people that either nobody knew or weren't in the company like Dory Funk or some Japanese dude, forgot his name.

Maybe Titan could be a cool surprise entrant. Eliminate a bunch of people only to be eliminated by Dominick Mysterio.

I just want a random big to eliminate a shitload of people. I guess big on today's roster would be someone like Shanky, side stepping the obvious Omos, so we can get Cole jizzing himself with "Vintage Shanky!"

I bet Omos gets at least 5-6 eliminations.

This is a hard Rumble to predict. I mean, I definitely didn't see Edge winning last year I figured someone would fuck him and that would be his Mania feud.

Impact is on AXS tv and has been for a while now. Yeah for a while it was just twitch but they went to AXS and then AXS dropped New Japan but New Japan is coming back.

I think Josh Alexander or Moose showing up would be cool. However having a former WWE person currently working somewhere else like Mickie on the women's side might be the way they go just because they are going with a known person that they know people will react to. I think people would react to a lot of others like Moose or Alexander but not sure what Vince and company would think.

Yeah I remember a few times they brought in people like you said from Japan or whatever for a one off. They haven't done that in a while. Mostly just former WWE talent anymore.

I am interested to see who does show up and I am glad I am going to be there.

AJ Styles was the John Cena of TNA though. I don't know if I would put really anyone in Impact right now on the same level as AJ.

Pretty much the only thing safe to predict is that Johnny Knoxville will be involved in Sami Zayn's elimination. They probably do something like have Sami be entrant #1 to 3, but he pretty much slides out under the ring to hang around while guys like Jinder and maybe Dawkins fight it out. Omos may come in and clear house, then Johnny comes out and chases Sami back into the ring where he can get destroyed. Maybe as Omos is chokeslamming Sami over the top rope, Johnny eliminates both of them so he's left alone to celebrate and allow for another mention of his new movie coming out. Then, the surprise entrant Goldberg will come in and spear the hell out of Johnny Knoxville. It is much safer to predict who won't win than figure out who stands a chance, and fans will feel cheated if Johnny does not take a bump.

Goldberg has one more match left on his deal, so a Rumble nostalgia appearance might be the best use for him.

My other prediction is that either Dominik eliminates his father, or vice versa, setting up a father-son rivalry for them to have a match at Mania.

I agree with you that Omos probably gets a lot of eliminations, and that the overall winner will be hard to predict this year, especially since Drew is on the shelf.

All that aside, Rumble generally has had the best surprises so just for the party atmosphere, product liking aside, it’s the one PPV aside casuals should have their eyes on so not aiming this at Randolph specifically and if he or others still don’t want to then that’s their prerogative but I think it’s the one hill out of the whole PPV year that I think shouldn’t be died upon and also they have been putting more effort into the build-up more this year than most Rumbles. The title matches which are generally looked upon recently as a bit of a filler til Mania are stacked this year. Lashley/Lesnar in particular has wow factor. First time ever match up plus not a guarantee Heyman will stay loyal to Lesnar.

Wrestlemania is their flagship show but me personally I generally look forward to the Rumble more every year just for the sheer randomness of who shows up whereas with Mania it’s more mapped out in advance plus recently it’s so bloody long. Rumble IMO is always a good party time just to count down to see who comes out next.

Exactly. They haven't even announced everyone for the women's and men's Rumbles. I think only 20 women have been announced and a handful of men.

It's probably harder for WWE to truly justify having the OG's make a surprise appearance when they have so many wrestlers on 3-4 shows. Even back in the early days of the Rumble you didn't get too many surprise entrants because they had about 200 wrestlers.

I do want to see Dean Ambrose at the Rumble this year.

But not Jon Moxley/Ambrose. I want a new actor.

Let's try that Fake Diesel/Fake Razor Ramon thing again.

Probably not unless I hear something that draws me in tbh. I've barely watched WWE for years now. Have the odd .onth or two to try and get back into it every now and again but nothing really done much to aid that.

Last time I liked the product was probably when The Shield were first in which is coming up around a decade now I guess. Then just slowly filtered out.

Watch AEW instead, just meets my tastes better these days. I usually try WWE around this time as the Rumble is a fun match and you get a build to Mania where you can see if anything really good they are pushing is going to happen but not feeling it this year at all so far.

I want someone to have a gimmick where they take the Rumble absolutely serious. They do not celebrate after an elimination. They do not turn their back to their opponents. No showboating and they use ring awareness to either use the ropes optimally in order to avoid being thrown over the top or they roll under the bottom rope if they sense danger.

lol yep we were talking about that "New Generation" period where suddenly Dory Funk and some no named Japanese dude-even by Japanese wrestling standards-was popping up. Doug Gilbert I think was in the 1996 Rumble....And they had a shit ton of talent they just had no desire to put TL Hopper in there I guess.

Hey. Help a casual fan out. How do I get the Royal rumble for cheap? No I’m not looking for an illegal stream. Do I sign up for 1 month or Peacock to be able to watch it? Can I sign up for the cheapest peacock tier or does it need to be the 2nd level tier?

I am not well versed on how the peacock / WWE network merger has played out.
