I should possibly give the Sherlock Holmes movies another go. It sounds great - I like Downey, Law and the character of Holmes. I think when I watched the first one I was thrown off by how much of an action movie it was. While I never read the books so I could be flat out wrong, I never pictured Holmes as an action star. Anyway by this point I mostly forget the plot so perhaps, a second viewing would be worthwhile. I don't think I ever watched the sequel since I didn't love the first one.
I love Chasing Amy and I think the Jay and Silent Bob scene in it is great. I mean the whole vibe of that scene hits perfectly, from the way Jay talks to the waitress, to the Jay/Bob bickering, all of it. It's Jay and Bob at their most real, their least cartoonish, and it works so well.
BUT...
It has always irked me how Bob's story about chasing Amy is almost word for word the same as what happened to Ben Affleck's character. It's not a similar anecdote, it's literally identical. His GF got double teamed, he called her a slut and said she was used, she said how it was a time and place but she's moved past it, but he dumped her, etc. I wish Smith would have made Bob's story a little less on the nose in terms of him having had Holden's exact same experience.
That being said, Kevin Smith delivers it so well. "I've spent every day since then chasing Amy, so to speak". Nailed it. .
Chasing Amy was my first Smith film. Loved it. I was in 9th grade and rented it from Blockbuster on the recommendation from a friend. I had no idea what I was getting into. I Immediately had to see Clerks and Mallrats.
To this day, I think it is one of the best rom-coms of all time.
Thankfully my mother had no idea what she was renting.
Yeah I'd agree with that. Adams, Affleck and Jason Lee were all awesome. After this and Mallrats I became a huge Jason Lee fan. Anything he's in I'm pretty much on board for.
Agreed. It is crazy to me that he was a skateboarder prior to Mallrats, or at least had only been trying out the acting thing for a couple years prior to that, with minimal roles. For him to get a lead role in Mallrats and deliver an all time comedic performance, is so impressive. He must be a natural.
Yeah that is nuts but very true. I'm still patiently waiting for Mallrats 2. It might be shit but I still want to see it happen.
In the books, he practices Sambo, is known to be swift sprinter, and engages in more physicality then some of the older movies show. Although I do enjoy those, they established a bit of a different paradigm for both Watson and Holmes.
The more dowdy Watson also comes from the movies. Watson in the books also painted a picture of his own sound physical prowess.
Was there a robin in Batman: Dark Knight Rises?
Joseph Gordon Levitt but they never called him Robin until the end and he never wore the suit. They left it up in the air so I didn't count him. I also left off animated voice Robins and just stuck to the two listed.

Forgot about this thread. Some really great choices in the top 10. I actually forgot I put Spock so high. I've barely watched Star Trek other than Next Generation when I was younger but real recognizes real and Spock is the ultimate sidekick.

Is there any actual defense of Chewbacca over Samwise? I mean I think it’s nearly impossible to make one, unless you simply haven’t seen the Lord of the Rings movies.
I voted Samwise over Chewbacca, but let me attempt a defense for the Chewies.
If you trade Sam for Chewbacca in LOR, Frodo doesn't get as dark and depressed as Gollum isn't able to lead him down the dark path.
Because the first time Gollum tries to fuck with Chewbacca or Frodo, Gollum loses his fucking arms.
I agree with you on how Chewie would have handled Gollum, but in that scenario I would argue Frodo and Chewy would never complete their quest and Middle Earth would have fallen to Sauron. Because Gollum, though villainous, was essential in guiding them to Mount Doom. Without him they never would have made it.
I thought about that, and certainly can't say you're wrong here.
There's a bit of change that if Frodo hadn't been as weakened by Gollum, Shelob, captivity, etc.....that he is not as spiritually weakened, and thereby doesn't need the Gollum's rebellion to cast off the ring. Cause Chewbacca could potentially take Shelob, and pass in Mt. Doom.
Also, perhaps as soon as they get there, Chewie just gets pissed, rips the ring off Frodo and chucks the damn thing in the lava.
Any reason why Randolph and Jarrod both left Sam off their lists?

Yeah I probably dropped the ball on Sam. I made my list and had some different choices and he was on my cut list. I haven't seen the LotR trilogy in a bit so maybe forgot how important Sam was to the overall story.
I make my list before I get everyone's so I'm not swayed by other choices. Once I saw all Sam's votes coming in I saw he was definitely going to be in Top 2. Chewbacca pulled away eventually.
Even though I still think Sam was robbed, since Chewie was robbed of a medal before, I am OK with this make-up call.
Plus Sam could give 2 shits. He's living the God life as mayor, enjoying time with Rosie and the kids.
