ou[R]-FED Phoenix Cup Tournament
The fact is even a short-term R-fed run with the old structures isn't viable anymore however, we've seen that tournaments like Wilfred's and Fiction Fight are still able to run fairly smoothly and successfully. It is with that in mind that I am suggesting the Phoenix Cup Tournament. It is a one-off tourny run with a similar structure to the debates in the hopes that we can have a brief bit of fun like the days of yore without having to commit to something that is too consuming for any of us to manage.
We'll need at least 8 participants to compete and 3 judges/”bookers”. Participants will be randomly paired off and compete with three back and forth promos against each other. These promos will then be judged with a set criteria and the judges will determine who they think should win as a result and also how the match itself should play out as a reflection of the promo contest. A full match will be posted that announces the winner advancing to the next round.
PARTICIPANTS (at least 8)
Would love to see some of the old guard show up and dust off their promo boots. Would be happy to see some new faces give it a go, as well. It will be a matter of quality over quantity so no word count. The criteria you will be judged on is below. Sign up as a fictional wrestler with some basic stats:
Height:
Weight:
Hometown:
Wrestling Style/Wrestles Like:
4x Big Moves:
Finisher(s):
Brief Bio:
JUDGES/BOOKERS (3)
The criteria you will judge the promos on are as follows:
Sell the Characters/Story – Your first goal is to sell yourself, presenting your character clearly so we “get them” and why we should cheer/boo them. But you should also sell your opponent's character, too, don't just break kayfabe and/or shit all over them, for example The Undertaker would have never been successful if folks were just like, “You're just a guy dressed as a zombie cowboy” and didn't help get him over. There should also be a story: why you're doing this, the dynamic between the characters/clash of personalities. Old vets looking to prove themselves, young upstarts looking to make a name, old rivalries renewed, personal grudges yet to be settled, etc.. Try to make it more than just “two guys fighting just because”.
Sell the Match – The ultimate goal of promos is to promote a match and make money. Make sure your promos are focused on the end goal: making people want to pay to see the fight. Hype yourself but make sure you also hype the actual match that will conclude things. Let us know what we can expect and set the tone for the contest. This will also help the match writer who can incorporate your ideas.
Entertainment Value – No one wants a generic, by the numbers, going through the motions promo. Take us on a journey, make it memorable, make us feel something.
Grammar/Cohesion, etc. - Basic shit your English teacher would grade you on.
Judges will PM their verdicts of who should win based on that criteria and also suggest how they think the match might play out to incorporate the story being told through the promos.
MATCH WRITER
Uses the promos, verdicts, and booking ideas to write a full wrestling match between the two competitors that is posted after the promo exchange to reward their efforts and present the winner.
I think that's about everything. Now to see if there's enough interest to make it happen...
Name: Kris "Fa Sho" Destiny Height: 6'
Weight: 224 lbs
Hometown: Davenport, IA
Wrestling Style/Wrestles Like: Flies like Seth Rollins with Ground Game like Samoa Joe
4x Big Moves: Kiss of Destiny:Superkick to the back of the head, can be done to a standing or kneeling opponent Destiny Drop:Modified Ace Crusher ala LA Knight V-Trigger Knee:Bicycle knee strike Brainbuster:Done similarly to Ishii Finisher(s): Sho-time!: Double Underhook Piledriver Fin':Koji Clutch
Brief Bio: Kris "Fa Sho" Destiny got his start as Fa Sho wrestling around the world until a tragic accident caused him to sit out almost a full year. Upon doing that time he became famous as an actor on stage as Kris Destiny, though he felt an itch to return to the ring. This man with a big ego still has this tough guy wrestler within him who causes him to become unhinged at times. Sometimes you aren't quite sure which version of him you are up against, but either way you know that you will be in for a battle against a battle hardened warrior or a young star who is willing to do anything to make a name for himself.

He also has white gloves which look like they have seen better days.
BIOGRAPHY: The Jitterman is believed to have lived in England and was a man of the cloth. Not much is known about him or why he decided to leave the church behind and come to the world of wrestling.
He stays a mystery, hiding and lurking in the shadows stalking his next victim. Something that is for certain though is we are all going to learn that The Jitterman has turned down a dark path, to which there is no light anymore. The Jitterman has come to play...HEY I DIDN'T ADD THAT LAST BIT!

ENTRANCE DESCRIPTION: The arena goes dark and then the screen flickers on and there appears a forest in the dead of night. a veiled woman comes out onto the stage with some kind of book, she begins speaking to it and then out in the distance a figure emerges closer and closer they come towards us. He gets half way but stops...that's when the music begins to play.
Then the lights go out once again and when they appear back on The Jitterman is there next to the veiled lady otherwise known as Alice.
They then slowly and methodically make their way to the ring and then lights eventually turn back to normal.
...
MANAGED BY AliCE
GIMMICK: when Alice comes to town, trouble will ensue. She is an evil entity, her character is wicked, she has a sick sense of humour and also a very deep love for darkness.
PICBASE: Woman In Black
APPEARANCE: Dressed in a dark black dress almost like a sort of wedding dress with a veil. Her face is mainly covered and hidden from our eyes (which is probably a good thing). However we can see her mouth from the bottom of the veil, her black rotting teeth are not a pretty sight. She usually brings out knitting needles which hide inside the book. After The Jitterman has made his entrance she normally sits in a tatty looking armchair as she knits watching The Jitterman have his fun (be warned she will use these as a weapon). She can sometimes freak out the commentary team as she sits by them knitting as she muttered away to herself.
Alice's identity is that shrouded in mystery, her face never shown...
MANAGEMENT STYLE: Alexa Bliss with Fiend but the book is her urn... She acts more like Agatha Harness from Wandavision.
...
SIGNATURE MOVE: Takes the chain out of her dress and uses it as a weapon.

Bio:
Tyson Bell grew up in the mean streets of Compton, California. His dad was a janitor for the school district and his mother worked as a cook at the local Sizzler restaurant. The family had run on hard times in the early 1980's after Tyson's dad got hurt on the job while working in construction. They were forced to sell their place in Glendale, CA and move to Compton, where Tyson's mother had family.
Tyson was one of the few white kids in a city dominated by African-American and Latino families. The part of the city where he lived was full of gang warfare; the Bloods, Crips, and Latin Kings ruled the streets. His father enrolled him in boxing lessons at the age of 5 at the local YMCA; as Tyson needed to be able to defend himself. Tyson considered becoming a professional boxer upon graduation from high school, but an incident with a liquor store clerk put him in Juvenile detention at age 13.
When he graduated from high school at 19, Tyson moved to Los Angeles to put his boxing skills to use. By then he had grown to 6'9" and he became a bodyguard to the stars. He worked for celebrities such as Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre and Eminem; and made enough money to move his family to an expensive beachside mansion in the posh neighbourhood of Santa Monica. A business meeting escalated out of control and the incident forced Tyson to re-evaluate his life, and find another career.
He was fortunate enough to run into wrestling legend Tylor Trenton one day while working out at a Gold's gym in Las Vegas. Tylor suggested that Tyson put his size to use in the professional wrestling industry; and used his influence to secure a spot for Tyson in one of the top wrestling schools in North America.
After brief stays in Rajah Valley Wrestling (RVW) and Rajah Wrestling Alliance (RWA), Tyson signed with Rajah Pro Wrestling (RPW) in the Fall of 2004. He quickly developed into one of the brightest stars in the R-Fed industry; joined R-Fed legends Tylor Trenton and Kid_Roll and created the Dynasty stable. The three RPW superstars became a legitimate force in RPW, and imposed their will on the rest of the roster. At the December '05 pay-per-view "The Holy Fish Bowl", the Dynasty stable added Rush, one of the rising stars in the industry, to its highly exclusive list of members. The future looked bright for the quartet as they hoped to raise RPW to unparalleled levels of greatness. Rising tension between the two figureheads Kid_Roll and Tyson Bell, ultimately resulted in the Compton native's dismissal from the Dynasty.
RPW closed it's doors in late 2006, and Tyson has since competed in two short-lived federations: Ring of Rajah (RoR) and Extreme Rajah Wrestling (ERW). He has been on a self-imposed hiatus since April 2007, but according to people in his inner circle, has been hoping to get back into the industry and resume his career. In May 2008, the Compton native returned to the pro wrestling industry and made his presence known to one Michael Cook. Tyson retired from the wrestlng business when URP shut its doors.
Tyson Bell's greatest career accomplishment to date was when he defeated Average Joe for the RPW Limitless title in a ladder match at the pay-per-view "Night of a Thousand Stars". He held the title for eight months before dropping it to Skiznilly.
Retired from the R-Feds in February 2009.
Career Accomplishments:
- R-Fed #10 (2005)
- R-Fed #37 (2004)
- RWA representative at "When Worlds Collide 2004" (Hardcore Title Match)
Nicknames: The Electric Hobgoblin, The Neon Nightmare, The Backbone of the Business
Height: 5'10"
Weight: 215 lbs
Hometown: Parts Unknown
Wrestling Style/Wrestles Like:
Bulk off offense is strikes/submissions with a high-flying move occasionally thrown in like Bryan Danielson/AJ Styles. Since bulking up in the later stage of his career he'll also sometimes bust out a power move like a spinebuster, powerbomb, or big nasty German suplex. Also uses unorthodox antics (biting, licking, assorted weirdness) to psych out opponents ala Goldust/Dexter Lumis/Boogeyman-types.
Brief Bio:
A promising artistic rookie overwhelmed by the pressure eventually snapped and became an animalistic mute for awhile before evolving into a face-painted warrior/boogeyman of sorts. At some point the line of kayfabe blurred to the point of erasure as the performer and the gimmick became one. He became a very successful and respected mainstay of the R-Feds with a career spanning nearly 20 years. Now equal parts demon and showman with a splash of drag queen, this charismatic wierdo is back to make sure this tournament has a Backbone.
Appearance:
Color scheme is black, white, hot pink, and electric blue. Wears full facepaint that often extends onto upper body. Overall look has a goth/punk/gender bending vibe, often includes things like fishnet tights and fur trim. Full sleeve tattoo on left arm.

Attire is a black singlet under a cut off T-shirt (usually featuring a picture of any Nintendo, Marvel, 80s Metal band or any late 80s/early 90s pop culture iconography). Black knee pads. Black boots. Taped fists and wrists.
FROM: Watertown, N.Y.
Theme Music- "More Human Than Human"- White Zombie
WRESTLING STYLE: Bruiser Brody type brawler with a bit of Cactus Jack risk/bump taker. Relies on brawling but can pull out different suplex variations such as a German, T-Bone, Tiger or Belly to Belly. Will go to the top rope for high flying moves but is 50/50 in connecting with them. Has a weak left knee so can be a step behind at times but is still surprisingly agile. Loves to gouge a eye, bite a ear or nose or low blow a man when he has the advantage. Always has his Brass Knuckles hidden on him or around ringside. Loves to blind a opponent with The Mist then clobber him cold with his Brass Knuckles. If you survive that a jumping piledriver from the middle rope will spell certain doom for opponents.
FINISHER(S): Brainstew (Middle Rope Piledriver). Who Spiked The Punch? (Brass Knuckle Punch ala William Regal).
FAVORITE MOVES: Snap Suplex (ala Chris Benoit). Lariat (ala Bradshaw). Frog Splash (ala D'Lo Brown). The Mist (ala The Great Muta).
CHARACTER: Unpredictable but very intelligent. Enjoys women, a joint, video games or a Captain & Coke but fighting is his first love. Won't blindly accept brawls unless he thinks he has a advantage. Good on the microphone but doesn't feel the need to talk much when fighting will do. Has size but will resort to cheating if he feels he has to. Will turn on any "friend" (ala HBK or Owens) he might have if it gets him closer to whatever goal he seeks.
BIO: A former college hockey defenseman, Cypher spent his younger years learning balance on the ice that comes in handy in a fight now. Spent time drifting doing bar bouncing or bounty hunting jobs to make money. A fan of wrestling since he can remember, after a bit of time lacking direction, it was finally time to give wrestling a try. Having trained, traveled and drank all over the globe Cypher is a well rounded competitor and has arrived to win the prestigious Phoenix Cup while laying waste to anything in his path.

Very accomplished wrestler that has been around the block. Tag team specialist but also an accomplished singles wrestler.
Feel free to tag any other old vets you think might come out of the dirt to give it a whirl. And certainly open to folks who were never in the mix before giving it a try, as well, fresh meat is certainly welcome.

Those of you may remember from my RFed days, I love match writing, which is why I offered. I won’t enter my former character, as I believe that would lead me to a biased style. However….. y’all, I’m gonna write the shit out of these matches and make everyone look like a million bucks. That is my promise to you.
