We're at 116 villains right now and am almost caught up with all the lists I've received over the weekend.
I'm not nearly enough of a movie buff to participate in this. But I may follow along the reveal.
Hope this does not turn into a list of just comic book villains and horror movies. I will try to stay away from both as I think they deserve thier own list. Heck jokers alone deserve their own list.

i did the same, and kept away from a few 'obvious' choices, as well. only one comic book villain, and it's not a joker. i kind of arbitrarily kept my criteria of 'villain' a bit stricter, too.
Sitting at 154 of the best villains ever. The top is still moving but not as much as the middle.
The number 20 spot is in a battle to see how will make the list.
Numbers 19-9 seem to change with every list.
I'm going to kick this off this weekend so if you plan on doing a list you have until Saturday morning or so.

I was doing this as a favour to Jarrod as he’s done a favour to me with fiction fight. Not a huge movie buff tbh and my choices may show. Top half not too bad but bottom half of my list was struggling a wee bit.

i've got at least four comedic villains on my list, with a possible case to be made for a fifth. i feel like villains of comedy films are going to be underrepresented once we get to the proper countdown, and that's a travesty.
I can think of a few of these, but don't expect them to crack many people's top twenty. Perhaps Jared can give us a hint of how many points or votes it took to break into the top 20?
Not the exact number but to hit Top 20 the villain would need around 60 points or higher.
My daughters have seen many Disney villains. Prince Hans is the only one that they would kill with no remorse.
Fun subversion of the Disney opening tropes as well.
Would be interested to do TV villains too. After finishing Midnight Mass, Beverly Keane would be top 5 without question.

2. Lugosi Dracula was 21 on my list and got cut. Fucking hurt. But (spoiler) Creature from the Black Lagoon still made my list
Some good ones there. Was ghostface the same in each movie though? I forget what happened there. From what I recall the 2 dudes who ended up being the bad guys in the first one died at the end. And then maybe the bad guys in the next one were different? Not that it matters for the sake of this countdown, I’m just going down memory lane here.
Jarrod just curious are you going to go straight through the list or skip to the top 20 or 25 at some point to keep some mystery around the top entries? I feel like if you go straight through it’ll be easy to guess the final 10 when we get there. Totally up to you, just wondering!
With Ghostface I was curious if people would vote for the individuals. I only got the one lone vote though so didn't feel the need to ask which one KD meant. I figured we could just talk about all of them here.
Looking forward to Scream 5 in January. I know 4 isn't as acclaimed as others but I saw that one in the theaters and the 15 or so people in the theater were really lively. One of my favorite theater viewings.
I was planning on going straight through unless people want me to skip forward. I didn't really think about it how you framed it because I viewed the middle as the fun part because that fluctuated the most.
Eh, do what you feel. No right or wrong way to unveil it. The way I suggested keeps the mystery of the final 20 but the way you’re doing it gets more interest in these lower entries as opposed to if you post them after the fact, like after the top 20 has been revealed, then they feel like leftovers and might not get as much commentary.

I wanted to include a Daniel Day-Lewis character, and was torn between Bill and Daniel Plainview.
The main reason I didn't do the list: I had no idea how to sort or rank them. I feel like I have already seen at least 5-10 that should be in the top 25. Some feel like top 10 even. I couldn't even wrap my mind around how to sort or rank them.
To make it less stressful for me I just make these lists based on personal preference. I also tend to rush them so I'll forgot 2-3 key entries that if I really sat down and thought about it I wouldn't miss. It'd be even harder for me if I looked at it from an unbiased point of view. Would I have put Top Dollar from The Crow on my list if I were doing this for a magazine? Probably not lol.
All that old shit is on there. I didn't realize there is no real score to Dracula. Just a few pieces of music and that's it. It wasn't until they dropped a DVD release in 1998-1999 where they had someone come in and do an actual score. You could watch it with or without.
You ever see the movie Monster Squad? I can't stop thinking of that movie when I watch these classics like Dracula. I'm about to fire up Bride of Frankenstein. I figured I should probably get everything I can out of the cock other than WWE shit.

I went by how much I enjoyed them.
Just said favorites so I guess I ranked mine on how much I enjoy the performance and the nostalgia factor.
I enjoyed it because every list seemed to be unique to the person that sent it. Some like action villains. Some horror or comedy villains. Made for fun putting this together.

I don't "enjoy" any villains really. I am not a someone who roots for the bad guy very often. I like seeing how ambitious and smart their plans are but I am almost always rooting for them to fail at the end. If they can get away with it without using a gun or killing anyone, then I can start rooting for them. I love a good conman/hustler movie for example.
But as soon as they kill innocent civilians, they are dead to me and I am now rooting for their death and demise.
Ghostface is the top 10 for sure. That one shocked me. That was HUGE and had long legs.
While not my favorite, I was shocked Bickle was that low. Drago too. Who is more iconic than Ivan Drago? Maybe General Zod. Amy Dunne is an AMAZING villain in the true sense of the word.

I can see all that, especially Ghostface and Ivan Drago. I kicked myself for forgetting Drago and then was surprised when more votes didn't come through for him.
Loved Apollo and was pretty surprised/devastated when he died in Rocky IV.
These lists are all personal preference. My number one is someone who blew me away with their performance.
My favorite horror movie of all time is Texas Chainsaw…leather face didn’t make my final list because he’s really not a great villain in that movie. The terror of that film comes more from the protagonists, the family, and the set pieces.

I have a feeling he was on my list and then was removed by accident lol. I don't know. I'm not a big vampire movie guy so I can why I left him off but if it were a list where my personal opinion didn't matter, he would have to be in the top 5 if not #1.

Monster Squad was great. The splitting of villains by actors fucked with my rankings some. I sent Jarrod composite rankings, and then he asked for me to choose a favorite for roles like Joker.
I had to separate the movie Jokers because I think Jared Leto's Joker is so far beneath every other version I couldn't let him get credit lol. I did the same thing for Magneto. Both incredible actors but one is clearly better than the other. But I didn't specify with Freddy Krueger, under the assumption that none of us remember the remake lol.
Pretty much took it list by list. Some characters were split. Some, like Ghostface, only recieved one vote so didn't need to split there but could have if needed.

Also as I was beginning to list candidates I realized that the sheer number of those worthy was piling up so much that it was just going to take too long to sort them all, even if I had a method to do so.
