Just gauging the interest in running a free league this year. We've had the VIP league for years but tbh only half the players have been playing much and @hithit doesn't have the time to organise it this year. As recently as two years ago we had the Free League as well. I'd like to think there's enough interest to run a free league with 8-12 active players.
I know Fro is in and I'll ask around the cash league today and if there's enough interest then we can agree a day to draft.
I'd be up for participating, as the free league has been fun with Rajah folks in the past few seasons.

I'll speak for beefy and say we're looking for players who will remain active and not abandon their teams during the season even though it's a free league
I find with free leagues people can tend to lose interest if they miss the draft. but it's also hard to make a draft time that works for everyone
Yeah as Fro said, ideally we'd have active players. I know it is a long season and people lose interest when there's no cash on the line but setting a team and checking the waiver wire isn't a big committment.
Will probably be the ESPN app like the VIP league was unless there's a strong desire for Sleeper or NFL.com instead. Would prefer to avoid Yahoo.

I usually just do free leagues so not a big deal there for activity but only really do Yahoo leagues. Maybe next year.

Really hard for there to find a good time for me to make a draft. As much I love to be at drafts I will prerank and be fine. Week nights and weekends are good for me mostly but figured nights are out since we have people from over yonder. This weekend would be a no go(camping) and the following Saturday probably a no go since I am going to Empowerrr and thinking about going down for fan fast as well.
Not picky about platform. I have done yahoo and espn in the past. espn will be fine with me.
I'm approximately 20 years deep on yahoo. Also done ESPN.
Whatever works. I'm sure I can figure a different platform if needed.
Regarding draft time... yea weeknights are tough because of the UK folks, especially if we have people in the central/mountain/pacific time zones in America. By the time they're off work, UK folks are in bed.
The Monday before the NFL opener is Labor Day holiday in America. The Monday prior to that is Summer Bank Holiday in the UK. So both weekends preceding the opener are holiday weekends somewhere. Hence people may have plans/commitments/travel those weekends (although with Covid, maybe not so much anymore).
We do the Rajah Cash draft on Labor day (Sept 6) at 6PM eastern / 11PM London. My thought for this draft would be to do it earlier in that same weekend. Maybe the day prior, Sunday Sept 5, at 5PM or something.
I'm personally pretty flexible though and can do it pretty much whenever. Maybe set it to something with the best chance of working for the group, and if a player can't make the draft time and therefore doesn't want to participate in the league, they can exit the league before we draft. Just don't set the draft time at the last minute because that is the recipe for low turnout and poor participation.

@Beefy - one thing to consider about the settings is keepers. it's currently set to 2 keepers. I don't care either way. Since we're kind of refreshing the league maybe I would suggest we draft freshly with no keepers, but maybe start them up again next year if you like? or keep them on this year and roll with it. up to you. but just decide one way or another because it does affect strategy during the season, and people need to set their keepers before the draft if we're keeping them.

I'm not sure why it is set for keepers. We didn't have them last year. I'll change that now. For future seasons there will be one keeper allowed.
On the bright side, this is the first time since Drew Bledsoe was drafted that I wouldn't trade QBs with you.
Gary is just joining now so that brings us up to 12. I'll sort out draft order asap. Draft is still scheduled for Sunday 5th at 5pm Eastern time unless there is another time suggested that works better. Personally I'm pretty easy but probably needs to be no later than 5 for us Europeans.
I've reduced the trade veto period to one day from two and raised the number of votes needed to veto to six. No keepers this year but one keeper is allowed for next year if people continue.

FFS I can't even rig a draft order. I also spent five minutes copying the team names into a draft order generator without noticing that ESPN have a handy 'randomise order' button on the draft page. Anyway I've a video clip of the whole process to prove a lack of cheating which will be retained on file for future audits.
I've copied the order below and it is in the app. I've put in brackets who I think the managers are but let me know if I've made a horrible mistake. If there are any legacy names here from the last year's league obviously please rename them.

I know I could just google it, but can someone explain to a total novice how Fantasy Football works?
I play American Fantasy sports so I get the concept of Fantasy in general. I mean more outside goals and assists, what else gets points in Football? Clean sheets right? Is that each player? Just defenders? How many people on a roster, how many start, what positions? I see people talk about "captaining" a player. I assume you get extra points?
I am intrigued by the concept but the lack of easily countable statistics like we have in American sports makes it hard to compute how it would actually work in practice. Is there enough week to week variation to make it fun? Obviously the answer seems to be yes since it is everywhere but anyone who wants to explain it to a dummy, I would appreciate it.
So firstly this is an American Football fantasy league we're talking about here.
Fantasy soccer leagues have been around for a few decades but the nature of the sport means they work slightly less well than they do for American football. But they generally work whereby each team has a set budget which they can use to buy players based on a market price established for each player. You then select a team of 11 players each week out of the squad that you have got. Teams in the same league can have the same players and leagues generally work by an accumulation of points as opposed to win-loss records after head-to-head games.
That is how the biggest one over here, https://fantasy.premierleague.com/ works anyway.
You generally get points for clean sheets, goals, assists, minus points for yellow and red cards etc. Some will have a 'captain' who can score double points and other wildcards which can be played over the season to give extra points.
