After retaining the IWGP Intercontinental Championship against Tetsuya Naito, Kota Ibushi has now made it official and the Intercontinental and Heavyweight Titles are now unified. The unified title will be referred to as the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship.
Has Kota become God yet?
Reading the press release sounds like both titles are being retired and a new title with a new lineage will start. Hope I’m reading it wrong.

My problem isn't the lineage thing, but there will probably be a new belt and the belt they have is at worst top 5 all time.

i imagine they position the US or never title as the secondary belt now. not really sure how they handled things as far as structure before the IC was introduced.
No I meant it is top 5 all time at the worst. Personally the now retired IWGP 4th belt or Winged Eagle is the greatest of all time.
I figure US Belt will be top belt on Strong for the rest of the year and NEVER is 2nd in Japan.

Somewhat of a correction on this. The titles are being unified they just are not unified yet. The winner of Ibushi vs Despy will be the official first champion and the official first defense of the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship will be against the winner of the New Japan Cup.
weird, i thought they said the anniversary show match was non-title.
They did, but during the press conference Ibushi cut a promo saying he wanted to grant Despy's request for a title shot and New Japan agreed to make the change.
Did they present a new belt or is kota just carrying arround the two belts for now?

I went to look at Ibushi's wiki page. In championship history it was very weird to see under IWGP Heavyweight Champion final instead of current.
Just occurred to me Shinsuke was the first wrestler to hold both the belts being retired
I hate this. I fucking love the v4 belt so much. And the IC title was gorgeous pre-Naito.
I love the V4 belt. It just depends on what the new one looks like.
