I am def buying into the idea that Cam simply didn’t want to be the backup so Bill said “ok, no problem”

Disagree. Cam pouting is the opposite of how he's acted during his entire time here. We'll see if he has another opportunity in the NFL this year, but if he doesn't get signed (and there are diverging opinions on whether other teams will want him imminently) then he would surely be better off with the Pats. I mean, no one else wanted to sign him in 2020 nor 2021. His career might be over. Probably not, but I doubt he'll land in a better spot than New England as the backup to a rookie.

The most likely scenario is that once Bill made the decision to go with Mac at QB1, the next decision was that it is better for this team to cut Cam. Cam wanting to be cut only makes sense if he has a better job option, and at this moment I doubt that. I also doubt Cam prefers retirement to being a backup, but that's possible. I think he still wants a chance to play and earn a starting job. And I think his best chance at that is to be a backup and bide his time.

Cam doesn't think its retirement. He still thinks the phone will ring once someone gets hurt and wants to be available.

The ego that it takes to be a professional athlete. Even guys not on rosters think they should be starting; there is no way he doesn't still think he should be starting.

Us hypothesizing about it being his choice vs Bill's choice is totally out of our asses though.

From what many have said about Bill, he liked Cam a lot. For what Cam was gonna be paid, Hoyer could do the same thing as a backup. If there was any interest in Cam in a trade, it's not like they could have got a lot for him since nobody else wanted him. As a non-vax guy, Cam brought more hassle to the organization, and Bill could have decided it's better to send a message to the rest of the roster that non-vaxxers aren't all that welcome.

    Cam CANT be a backup.

It's CAM. I just can't see it. And Mac doesn't need him watching over his shoulder. This is his team now. For good. No matter what. They've let him know it and eased his mind. Competition over kid. Now go win.

Since Bill released both Cam and Hoyer, both of whom are not vaxxed, and they only kept 1 QB, he went out of his way to be clear that it was based on football and not vaccination status. Since the NFLPA is investigating the Jags, as coach Urban Meyer basically admitted they took vax status into consideration while making cuts, it was smart of Bill to say no.

It's silly to make separate rules/protocols in place for vaxxed/un-vaxxed regarding availability and then say that those can't be taken into consideration when deciding who is on the team.

There’s a good lawyer follow on Twitter, Michael McCann. Sports law in particular. He had a brief opinion on it that basically said that would be very hard for anything to actually come down on Urban. I’ll find it in the morning.

I hope the Cowboys make it a close game but I would lay the points on Tampa. Bucs are the real deal in terms of bringing everyone back and keeping their momentum rolling from last year. Dak’s first game back & going against an elite defense. I think the Bucs will get to him.

That said, 9 is definitely a big line and the Boys have all those nice skill players on offense. But idk if their defense will be able to stop the Bucs.

    Bucs 40, Cowboys 23

I think that we're watching 2 of the best offenses in the NFL right here. Dak looks good for sure.

awesome opener. I thought the no-call on the potential OPI was the right call, even though people are whining about it. it was a minimal push-off.

Bucs turn it over 4 times and come out with the W. perfect scenario for them. they made enough mistakes that they will only get better from here

although their cornerback busted his elbow something fierce. not sure if that's a season ender but probably

I lost money on this game and I don't even give half of a fuck.

    WHAT

    A

    GAME

Holy shit. Dallas had em on the ropes but made the cardinal sin of being up by 3 or less and giving Tom Brady over a minute on the clock to win it in the 4th.

But if Dallas can play D like that and play that hard in every game...they'll be winning 12 this season boys.

You may be right about 12 wins for Dallas if they play that well, Since they get to feast on the Eagles, Jints, and WFT, plus there's a 17th game. They don't play anyone else who made the playoffs last year until week 11.

A fun game for sure. The pass interference could have gone either way, but I'm glad they let them play it out. Dak looked great too

I just wish there was more of Trevon Diggs' kid. I want a show of him going to starting QBs asking if they are Patrick Mahomes or not.

they play at the chargers, at the vikings, at the patriots, and divisional games during that early stretch. It's not as easy as the broadcast is making it out to be. Feast on WFT? That's interesting since many think they win the division.

Dallas won the turnover battle by 3, had 450 yards, Goodwin fumbled the ball during a sure touchdown and dropped another touchdown. Bucs also lost half their secondary during the game. Dallas offense looked good but let's not pretend other offenses won't be putting up 30-40 on them every week just like last year. Dak was 1-3 before injury. what about the Dallas team is better? It's the same team.

lol their defense was really bad. bucs should've scored 40 on them easily.

    Titans looked shit.

Gee. Giant covid outbreaks that make your players unable to practice in preseason sure does matter huh Mike?

Make your players wear a fucking mask. Do whatever it takes. We looked like a team that just rolled out of bed.

Not that Arizona isn't special. I think they're a very good team in a very competitive division.

Unless something wild happens Monday, the best game of the week was the first one.

It was jarring how terrible Atlanta and Tennessee (who are now linked) were on offense. Looks like Atlanta made a mistake in multiple ways, maybe other than the coach. Tennessee has a lot of work to do and it could get messy as they try to develop chemistry.

Barring health (mainly San Francisco), the NFC West appears to be a buzzsaw. Very impressive showing by all of them, but the Niners may be too cute with the personnel. Kyler Murray needs to stay upright and he could be very electric.

Cleveland looked so good early and then it just all fell apart. I’m happy if I’m KC because they got a win, but their defense just seems to potentially be the new bugaboo for them.

The rookie QBs all showed some nice promise. Probably going to take some serious time for some of them (Wilson, in particular), but they’ve got upside that can be developed.

I thought Mac Jones looked great. He had a shaky moment early on when he basically threw it away backwards (hence a fumble) but once he settled in he was running the offense very smoothly. It sucked that Harris fumbled at the end causing the loss but I come out of this game enthusiastic for the season. Jones and Judon both impressed me greatly.

I think the Titans will be fine.

They looked asleep for most of the first half. Then finally got into a groove and scored two tds and missed a fg on the next three drives. But by then it was too late. Arizona have a ton of weapons on offense and the Titans left the D on the field for basically 45 mins straight at one point. They were fucking gassed and it was all over.

Bears d looked like absolute shit. That's usually the saving grace and that now looks to be fizzled. He'll even the rams/bears recap didn't even feature one offensive play from the bears in its 9 minute run time. You would think a rookie qb's first touchdown would get a shout out

KC's defense wasn't ever any good even during their 2018-2020 run when they made the super bowl twice and the afc title the other year. I don't think they added anyone that would make this year different. The main difference between them and Dallas besides the QB obviously is that KC's defense is barely average while Dallas is historically bad.

Buddy Idk what to tell you if you watched Thursday and saw the same Dallas team from last year.

That wasn't the Cowboys coming down from 42-3 in garbage time racking up a bunch of yards. That was a game for 4 quarters. They have offense. Have had it. All they need to do is not be the worst rushing defense in the league and get a turnover here and there and that will be enough.

The difference between those games last year and that game against the bucs is that Dallas didn't turn the ball over early and the Bucs did turn it over throughout the game including that Godwin fumble that kept the game close.

Easy to say "all they need to do is not be the worst rushing defense" when they have been for 17 games and not to mention their passing defense is probably worse than their rushing defense.

Dak played amazing but I think folks like yourself are overrating how different they look from last year. the difference is no turnovers early. the defense is EXACTLY the same. Offense still great. defense still awful.

Basically you're saying their offense has to have a perfect game and their defense has to get a couple lucky turnovers to win. That's all they have to do. We can agree to disagree.

I will not agree that the defense is the same because Micah Parsons. He's kinda sorta going to be the droy.

is that a fact? they also kind of lost their best corner from last year.

Ravens should've went for the first down at the end of the game instead of settling for the FG. A first down wouldn't have given the Raiders the ball game. And the Ravens defense at the end of the game was super weird.

For a game that I wasn't all that interested in, after RAW ended, it was quite the ball game. Both teams deserved to lose, but I am happy for the Raider fans in their new stadium. It really would have sucked for them had they lost after the replay overturned the first OT touchdown.

Totally agree. The team that really played to win, won. Loved the balls of that last play. You send out the kicking team, they take too long and get a penalty so you send the offense back out and while everyone is looking for a handoff or a short pass Gruden goes for the td and the Ravens are standing there like it isn't really happening.

That game was waaaaay better than I thought it could be. I'm not going to read too much into it though. I'm still not picking the Raiders for the playoffs and I think the Ravens will be ok when they figure out to deal with the injuries.

Yup. Too many teams settle for the FG. I also think too many teams don't go for that first down and rely on their defense to stop the other team from scoring a touchdown or fg to win/tie. If i'm up 4 points with 1 minute 30 left and it's 3rd and 7 go for the first down. Why put yourself in a position to punt? I also think too many teams avoid going for 2 to go up 9 late in the game and kick the extra point instead to go up 8.

Washington Football Team wins on a FG with no time left, after a defensive penalty on a missed FG as the clock was running out.

The NFL has had 3 primetime games this season, and all of them have been great TV.

So an in-season version of Hard Knocks coming up for the Colts..

As a football fan I'm pretty interested. If I were a Colts fan I wouldn't be so enthusiastic.

Is there some impending drama within the Colts organization that I’m not aware of?

An in-season “Hard Knocks” is probably going to be pretty boring, teams/personnel are a lot less secretive/tight lipped during training camp. Plus, there should theoretically be much less drama: the teams are relatively set, very few cuts/releases to be had.

Now the Bills, with their COVID vaccination tightrope, would be interesting. Particularly if an unvaccinated player causes an outbreak which results in forfeit(s) or game cheques being lost…

What's everyone looking forward to the most?

Obviously I'm hoping the Titans get their shit together.

I think the Eagles are going to do well. I almost decided to take the points on them actually. But really interested to see what's there.

I feel like Mahomes is just going to steamroll the Ravens this time. The Ravens are going to need to make some adjustments and get out of their comfort zone to win this season and this is the wrong fucking week for them to need to do some adjusting.

Really think the Bills are going to look far better this week. Miami cannot do to them up front what the Steelers did last week so I think they'll score a ton.

Rams feel like a lock to go 2-0. Same for Tampa. Browns and Pats should get their first wins.

A lot of people are going to dismiss The Raiders and I'm no Gruden mark but these guys are playing some legit football against the Steelers today. I wasn't terribly impressed with them week one but these guys are hanging in and making plays.

AFC West is about to become as competitive as the NFC West.

    Thoughts from Sunday.

    - The Titans made me feel so much better about them and where they are. The defense wasn't spectacular but it was when it needed to be and totally shut Seattle down late. Other than that it was the offense we were told we would get. The Seahawks decided to take away AJ Brown but that freed up Julio Jones and my man came to play. Henry was Henry. The rampaging beast.

Oh and if anyone wants to see the worst blown call of the weekend look up the safety that wasn't called in ot. Russell didn't start to go down till he was 3 feet deep in the end zone. Either that was a safety or it was grounding and the game is over but they called him down at the 1 and nope. Not even close.

    - Cowboys win in a defensive struggle? I think its going to happen more this season than most people think. Huge win for them.

    - Happy for Lamar and Co finally getting that win over KC. That was purely on heart and effort as they do NOT have the skill players that KC does right now.

    - DO the Bears have their guy at qb? If they do then that team is actually good enough to win some fucking games. Can't wait to see them next week.

    - The Bills dominated proving last week was a fluke. Still the team I'm most afraid of in the AFC not from KC.

    - Kind of expected the Rams to just destroy the Colts but it was looking like a a possible loss before Wentz went out. I guess the Colts are just a little better than I want to give them credit for.

    - Panthers killed the Saints who showed who they're really going to be this season. I picked the Panthers to finish second in the NFC South and I'll be sticking with that.

    - Every time Urban loses an angel gets his wings. Huge smile on my face.

    - Who ARE the Steelers this season? I was worried about their performance this week seeing as how that "blowout" of Buffalo last week was actually a close game for the first 3 quarters. But I bet on them anyway and they cost me money.

    - Speaking of which huge weekend for me on Draftkings. Good job by me. If KC had covered the 3.5 I'd have set a personal record.

I don't know if any of you are watching the Peyton/Eli broadcast, but it's an amazing experience. Just the body language contrast of the mannings....phenomenal

I flip back and forth between the regular broadcast and the Manningcast. Peyton is super smart and well spoken. Eli is Eli.

I just love that Peyton is leaning forward in his chair, constantly talking, super-engaged.

    And Eli is also present.

It's infinitely better than the regular broadcast. They have production issues but that is to be expected. I love watching it.

I loved and totally understood the decision to go for it on 4th and 1 to seal the game, it was an indication of how truly feared that KC offense is. That if they punted the ball to inside the Chief 20 yard line with twenty-odd seconds left, Pat Mahomes would still have ample time to get the ball in Butker’s range; two plays to get ~50 yards without timeouts is something the Chiefs probably do daily in practice.

These Chiefs are like the Pats prime years, that touchdowns are mandatory and field goals/turnovers/punts mean you lose.

I like it but I can't watch the whole game like that. Without the play-by-play you really need to be watching the action. If I'm watching a Patriots game then I'm attentively watching every snap, but when I'm watching a MNF game I may be looking down, at my phone, computer, cooking etc. So last week I had it on the Manningcast and I totally missed the Lamar fumble in OT that lost them the game. I was fiddling around, looked up, and was like "how did LV get the ball back?". I wouldn't have known it from their postcast-esque chat. Granted, Peyton does sometimes do a little play-by-play on big plays.

I like the Manning/Manning broadcast but I will fully admit I don't understand a lot of what they are talking about.

It's like having two Tony Romo's doing the broadcast - they have both watched a lot of tape ahead of time and can anticipate the game plan well enough to tell what will come next.

If one of my kids was in the room, who kinda does a Matt Riddle like running cascade of questions, I would have needed the play by play.

And I do love when Peyton feels like a team is doing something wrong, and he just gets disgusted with it. There were a couple of times, where he was just fucking done with those defensive schemes.

Kinda enjoy how much Peyton loves football, and gets into it.

    Also, Eli is present.

Peyton is the best. Pardon if I sound like a broken record, but I wish he would just be the regular color commentary guy for ESPN. But I find this thing interesting. I want to hear Peyton talk with Gronk and McAfee and whatnot, I like podcasts and listening to athletes and celebrities yuck it up in long form interviews, but do I want to watch that during the game feed? Only for a little while. Maybe I'm stuck in my ways but I feel something significant is missing without the play-by-play, like I'm no longer experiencing the impact and ebbs and flows of the game itself.

I get what you're saying, Fro. I think it may be different during a very close game with a team I care about, instead of during a blowout game with two teams I don't follow closely. And since I am often multitasking during a game, I like hearing the play by play guys actually call out the name of the guy who just got nabbed for a penalty, or who made a solid play. I may have been just listening with one ear, but hearing the crowd background cheer will grab my attention and make me want to watch the replay.

Its definitely something I could see myself flipping back and forth between. Like shit-talking with Gronk is fun, but I'm not sure I would go with that in the background of a Bears game.

But I do love Peyton in Q1 breaking down what the defense should be doing etc. it isn't play by play, but he peppers in some really good insights. A few times, he was just fucking beside himself with where the secondary was lined up.

And I kinda like him giving insights into the difficulty of year 1 for QBs, talking about the switches and reads.

I would love to hear him talk through one of the games the rookie QBs.

Also, Eli will occasionally mention that he too has played quarterback.

That's what you get for saying "Fuck Peyton Manning" dude.

    You disrespected football Jesus.

LA impressing today. Glad I didn't put money on New England to cover. Looks like the Saints had sometbing for them today.

God thank you Lamar. I had three teaser bets running today and 2 of them involved Baltimore winning.

Now to take all my winnings and bet them on Tom Brady and Russel Wilson.

They got to play carefree early and that certainly drew favorable results. The lightbulb turned on for Lawrence and that offense, too. They've gotta go through those growing pains and learn how to win.

I think the Bengals made adjustments and the Jags just couldn't adjust back. That's definitely a coaching issue more than a player issue.

God the AFC South is shit. The Titans are going to have the whole thing sewn up in a month.

Easy schedule, but the Bengals at 3-1 is a sure sign of the apocalypse.

I think people are being too rough on some of the winless and one win teams, especially the Jags. Urban is probably going to fail, but people are shitting all over a team that shouldn't be expected to do anything in year one. People forget that rebuilds usually take longer than 3 or 4 games.
