    Good topic there.

I think the Vikings are a truly dangerous one win team. Two heart breaker losses to Arizona and the Bengals and an absolute ass stomping of the Seahawks.

The real surprise one win team is of course KC but I don't think anyone expects them to stay at the bottom of the division long. Though they do have a pretty tough looking schedule.

I'm excited for The Return, but I really would like the Pats to make it a game so it's a memorable moment not just in the lead-up and handshakes but on the field as well. I mean if Brady has the ball with a chance to win the game at the end, in Foxboro with the home crowd roaring, that would be a moment for the ages. The Bucs will probably roll, but maybe the Pats offense can get something going versus what has been so far a historically bad Bucs passing D.

Gronk listed as doubtful (too bad for him, but good for the Pats). AB is back though, so Brady will have his top 3 receivers. 7 point spread.

I have to feel like the patriots would have dropped two safeties back or something to totally shut Gronk down if he had been able to play. I mean no way you let Brady AND Gronk dance all over your end zone. That would be fucking demoralizing.

I want it to be a good game but I feel like it's going to be like the Super Bowl. Great narrative. Shitty game.

2 doinks is still worse in a playoff game than 1 doink is in a regular season. I lost a lot of money last night, but looking at the game overall and towards the future, I’m ok with how it went.

It was a good game last night. Tough to end it on a doink. I thought Bill should have gone for it on 4th but it wasn't an egregious decision. Folk did have the leg for it, just missed left slightly. I'm happy the Pats made it a game, but fuck, we should have had the win. Jones almost threw the game away with a bad pick near the end which was thankfully dropped, but otherwise he is still looking very good for a rookie.

Good drama. I presume the TV numbers will be huge. I thought Pats fans in the stadium handled it perfectly, cheering Brady when he came onto the field but booing him when he came out for his first series.

Brady passing Brees for most passing yards all time was awkward because that pass was literally right on the line. First they said he was a yard short of the record, then they said he tied it, then they said he passed it by 1 yard, all based on where the refs spotted it. So that moment got kind of ruined, but oh well. Brady now has all the records in both the regular season and postseason, except regular season completions where he should pass Brees later this year.

I hadn't realized Folk had been so automatic, setting the team consecutive FG completed streak before that doink. Considering the two immediate predecessors, Vinatieri and Gostowski were both other-worldly kickers.

The Patriots suprised me by making the game competitive, despite the fact that they have absolutely no running game. Trent Brown's return will help, but they clearly need to do some work there.

I still think the Patriots should have gone for it. Oh well. The Bucs have some serious secondary issues they're going to be dealing with for a bit. Doesn't help (indirectly) that their DL is so stout against the run.

I thought Urban Meyer would make it until season three, but this train wreck might not last through one.

Sometime in January 2022: “Urban Meyer has stepped away from the Jacksonville Jaguars, citing unknown health concerns.”

PS. This Herbert kid is legit.

Literally every team's fans must be pissed it only took a 2023 6th round pick to get Gilmore.

    Great trade for Panthers.

The Pats needed to get Collins back a third time so they will have a chance at a running game. Jackson is showing he is adequate at corner so Stephon became expendable.

Sorry to see Gilmore gone, but its understandable from the Pats point of view. Good job on them getting at least something in return, and keeping him away from a few teams closer to contending.

Buffalo is clearly the toast of the AFC, with maybe the Chargers sitting comfortably at #2. They have both beaten good teams, but the Chargers and Herbert are just taking control of their destiny.

Cincy deserves credit for their close game to the Pack and they are much better this year. A wildcard playoff game for them is not out of the question. Cleveland scares the hell out of me and I wouldn't bet on their playoff chances. Mayfield is dogshit right now.

NFC has the overall best talent. Tampa and the Pack are back to form, Dallas is digustingly in charge of the East, and the Cardinals are getting it done in the West. Seattle in the short-term future is fucked. Watching Stafford succeed in LA is hard to watch, but like Verlander, I will support him.

The NFL is more interesting with traditionally terrible teams like the Bills and Cardinals at the top of their conferences. It's like having college football become watchable again now that there is an actual chance that Alabama or Clemson might not be in the playoffs.

You HAVE to wonder if maybe losing to Tampa so soundly in the Super Bowl did something to the Cheifs mojo.

It's always deeper than that. KC's defense is terrible and won't stop any decent team's offense at this rate. They also have been around long enough for opponent's to adjust to and maybe some of their best strategies have been figured out. Their offensive line is completely overhauled with free agents and rookies, so that makes things tougher on Mahomes. The receivers are dropping balls and not opening up the field as much as they should, so Mahomes has been having to put these games on his shoulders. That's tough for a guy who has seen nothing but success in the NFL, but he's very talented and should reign in this team sooner or later. I just don't believe it will be enough to overcome the Bills or Chargers, and especially if that dogshit defense doesn't improve.

I haven't read any of the texts or messages he sent but it must have been really bad for the tide to turn against him so quick. Message for everybody in the future: do not post any homophobic, sexist, or racist jokes or comments on anything that leaves a permanent record. A lot of careers have been destroyed because of that. Of course, you can just decide to post stuff that's not homophobic, sexist, or racist. Much easier.

The Gruden emails are despicable and he deserves to be out. Adios.

I have no issue with how the emails were uncovered. Many or most of the ones revealed by the NY Times were to Bruce Allen on his NFL email account, and they were discovered as part of the WFT investigation. Gruden wouldn't have been exposed without that investigation so he caught a ricochet shot here, but boo fucking woo. These were emails with someone in the league, and they are quite bad. In another world where Gruden's emails were sent to his non-NFL-affiliated buddies and were exposed by a hacker, I would feel conflicted about privacy and free speech issues, but not in this case.

The only part of this which feels dirty (aside from Gruden's emails) is how the NFL went about it. Did Goodell really just get the report on these emails within the past 2 weeks even though the WFT punishment was handed out on July 1? And the disparity between how much the NFL protected Dan Snyder in their findings (they basically let him off the hook and kept everything concealed) versus now exposing Gruden is yet another example of the league doing whatever the hell they want to do. They decided to expose Gruden, okay that's great and I'm glad they did. But it's the people they aren't exposing (mainly Dan Snyder but also who knows who else) that makes it feel gross. How much else are they sitting on? (Answer: tons more). And even the way they leaked it to the NY Times is icky. Better that than keeping it under wraps, but it feels like a very selective leak and backhanded way of getting him out. To my knowledge, it's not as if the Times has access of to all 650,000 emails from the investigation. Only the ones they were given.

Of course this is what we know to expect from the NFL so it's nothing new. I will add that this does give me a nugget of appreciation for how hard Goodell's job is. Say he does push for women's referees or for Michael Sam to be drafted or for concussion protocols... these are the things many people in the NFL are saying about it behind closed doors. Gruden is not alone in his sentiments - many of the owners probably share his point of view, even if their emails are protected and his are not.

Right, I presume his salary will halt immediately. It's possible he and the team worked out a deal of some sort, but he resigned. He wasn't fired. If they did work a deal, I imagine it would be for a small portion of his remaining contract.

The emails need to be made public, and the other recipients need to be called out for condoning that bullshit. The league is protecting some of their old white men.

Yeah, the NFL needs to release the results of the full WFT investigation. Has there also been any news about the WFT trainer and the FBI yet?

I don't think that's it. Maybe a malaise but I don't think they were ruined by that.

Mahomes is just playing looser and there's been some fluky turnovers. Teams that have the personnel are able to scheme against them defensively and KC...doesn't take the easy option. The opposition doesn't want to get blown up by big plays so KC is being dared to just take the simple stuff with run plays or short passes. Instead of going with the fundamental move, KC gets frantic and tries to do too much.

The Chiefs will be just fine. As much as I'd like to hop on the Chiefs-are-not-that-good-anymore bandwagon, they've had a tough schedule. Browns, Ravens, Chargers and Bills are all very good, and even the Eagles are not bad. Their schedule will get easier, they'll be in the playoffs, and their offense barring injury will still be top notch. Their defense possibly sucking is their concern, but again it might not be as bad as it looks given who they've played. Even if their defense does suck, Mahomes can potentially still lead a sucky defense to the SB.

I've seen some people say they'll struggle to make the playoffs. Get real. They will overcome a 2-3 start with ease and be there in the postseason and no one will want to face them.

Unless the Chargers fall flat on their face, which is possible but not looking likely, the Chiefs will be an extremely tough out for a division winner. They can still battle against the top teams but their margin for error is narrowing.

The Chiefs are fine operating under the presumption their defense stinks but it becomes much more difficult if these turnovers continue. The Hill turnover on Sunday was the pivotal one because the game got out of hand at that point. A fair amount of these turnovers are ones that are bouncing off hands and then the opposition is getting them. Fluky, but they need to be okay just running the ball a bit. That will probably do a bit of good for their OL.

That is a nice statement. I'm sure it'll have zero effect on the league, but it's nice.

I don't think KC is suddenly worse. If anything the o line is better. But I do think that Tampa gave the league a blueprint to follow and they are obsessed with proving that they can win without changing strategy. This falls on the staff not the players.

I fully expect them to wake up this coming week. The Bills must have shown them that going for 6 on every play just doesn't work anymore.

Ertz traded to Arizona. Good trade for them and Ertz.

Tampa has a very good chance or running it back.

Tampa’s defense is way too hurt right now. If the playoffs started now they wouldn’t win. But.. their schedule is very soft and hopefully 2 months from now they will have gotten key secondary guys back. So I do agree, but right now they’re not quite a championship caliber team. Thankfully they don’t need to be one yet.

Yeah Tampa should win the next few games fairly easily. Plus they will be getting their starting safety back and they have the trade deadline to make a move for a corner if they want to. Rams, Bucs, Cowboys, Packers and Cardinals are the sure 5 playoff teams. The last two wildcard spots are wide open. You could argue Saints, Vikings, Niners, Bears or even an NFC east team to sneak in.

At this time last year, Russell Wilson was the foregone conclusion to win MVP. Henry is playing lights out, but it's far too early to crown the MVP.

My heart says Henry but my head says Lamar. He was already my favorite guy to watch play but he's becoming a full fledged qb now. His passing game is impressing.

KC seems to have bet the Titans weren't going to show up to play.

    Fair assumption.

    Currently 27-0 Titans.

Bengals are the real deal. The spanking they gave to the Ravens was legit.

I don't want the Lions to win for the next five years. I think that's what it will take to get the worthless Fords to sell the team. Damn revenue sharing BS that keeps that team profitable.

The thing about the NFL is that any team can lose to any s*** team any given week of the season. I won't let one bad week make me change my mind unless they turn into the second coming of the Browns. Considering the fact they are an orange team based in Ohio, I guess I should see it coming. They are young and will continue to make mistakes but I think the talent is there.

Plus, interesting fact of the week, Cooper Rush's high school football coach was my high school football coach. He also went to the same college I went to. I had to root for the goddamn Cowboys for the first time in my life.

The NFC just got a hell of a lot more interesting:

Bigger story is he lied about being vaccinated. Can't wait to see how he explains this.

It's so odd of a story that I feel like the only thing that makes sense is that RapSheet and others are getting it wrong, and he IS vaccinated. But if that were the case, it would be very quickly corrected, so I don't think that is the case. So now we wait for Rodgers to explain this PR disaster. People were mad about the Cole Beasleys of the league who were anti-vax. This is worse. This is like those people who counterfeit their vax cards to get into concerts. Or close to it.

I'd say it's much worse than Beasley. I can at least understand if someone doesn't want to get vaccinated, but to allegedly lie about it...that's just so much worse. Bigger question is did he actually get a fake vaccination card? Was no one in GB checking cards?

Ruggs had a BAC of .161 when he was driving. He was doing 156 MPH just before the crash and the airbags deployed when he was going 125 MPH. Also had a loaded gun in the car.

What an absolute piece of shit. I hope he gets the max sentence.

I wonder if he'll remind us that he never said he was in fact vaccinated, merely that he was immunized.

I think he knows better and how that would play, but it seems now he worded it the way he did on purpose.

It’s funny that theoretically he played it off like he was vaccinated because he didn’t want the media and fans to be on him about it. Well now he’s created a shit show for himself bigger than if he had just told the truth

Supposedly Rodgers received some sort of homeopathic treatment to raise his antibody levels, then asked the NFL to consider him vaccinated. NFL and NFLPA said he wasn't vaccinated. Guess that's what he meant when he said he'd been immunized.

Rodgers didn’t lie. Also, looks like GB and the NFL knew he wasn’t vaccinated.

The NFL also knew he was breaking the COVID protocol when he appeared indoors for press conferences without wearing a mask. They hade lots of security camera footage that they publicly announced that they'd use both for contact tracing as well as to enforce fines/penalties etc.

Funniest thing I heard was someone saying if Kaepernick or even OBJ had done that they'd be suspended already.

Has there been a 2021 covid protocol for unvaxxed players to where masks? I haven't seen any players wearing masks whatsoever.

Also isn't that on the team and not the league?

There are some players wearing masks on the sidelines because technically there is a league rule. But it is not enforced except for personal accountability.

Pretty similar to signs on the outside of shops “if you’re not vaccinated you must wear a mask inside”….. but everyone knows the vast majority aren’t asking.

Seems that Aaron is not getting the same vitriol/backlash that Kyrie got.

Rodgers should be getting it way worse, at least Kyrie is taking a stand (albeit stupid) and staying the fuck at home. This dumbfuck QB has been showing up as though everything is cool, when really he’s been putting himself at risk; I try to like the guy but he always keeps acting the fool.

The Nets have told Kyrie to stay home. The Packers haven't done so with Rodgers.

After Johnson's performance, Zach Wilson should be 3rd on the Jets' QB depth chart.

If Zach Wilson doesn't get demoted after this IDK what will do it. Anyone can play qb for this team and score points except for him.
