I watched the first 2 episodes of WandaVision and I love it so far. It comes as advertised - a genuinely enjoyable homage to old sitcoms. Olsen and Bettany are great, and Kathryn Hahn is always funny. We'll see how crazy it gets. What do you think?
I just watched the first two episodes of WandaVision. Idk why, but i feel the part that they are doing the homage with difficult for me to get thru. Maybe it’s because my lack of seeing very many shows like that. I mean, I’ve seen old reruns of things like Lucy, Jeannie, DVD, things like that, but not a ton.
However, I also find that fact is making me focus on looking for and paying attention to the anomalies within their world. So maybe that is a good thing for me.
Really enjoyed this. Very faithful to the old sitcoms and I liked all the teases of things not being right. I really liked Wanda and Vision’s relationship in Infinity War so it’s nice to see them fleshed out in this way. If you want to completely avoid story and character details, I’d stay away from reviews since the first three episodes were given to critics.
I'm pissed it's not like Netflix and dropped all at once, I'd have binged this all in one.
This may be the most impressive thing I've seen from Marvel so far. The way they use and play with genre conventions, the tightness of the script, the genuine lightness of the sitcom style, the performances (oh my God, Olsen and Bettany are out of this world, in the moments where they are unsure of the world around them the pathos is incredible); all of it displays such a confidence in their approach. This is the worlds biggest entertainment franchise and they're producing something so at odds with what's come before, yet fits right in.
Most of the negative stuff I've read feels like people are too impatient. They can't binge it all at once, which I'd love to as well, but look at The Mandalorian. People need to let this stuff flesh out and shit if you made it to the 2nd episode you start seeing there's way more going on than we know in just 2 episodes. Imagine going to any movie and walking out in the first 10 minutes. Now some movies do deserve that reaction but not this lol.
I prefer weekly drops in general but especially and particularly for a show like this which is a throwback to old television. Dropping them all at once would be contradictory to the show's nature IMO.

yea, seems that episode 1 was set in the 50s, episode 2 in the 60s, and episode 3 will be 70s...
I like weekly drops because I can retain the information better. Binging a whole 12-13 episodes of something in a few days or even a week or 3 is a lot of shit to digest and remember. I'll recommend a show like The Boys and I have a hard time remembering season1 because I binged that shit to get ready for Season 2. So people will ask me shit and I'm like shit I watched 4 episodes on a Saturday that shits a blur.
I think people got too used to Hulu, Netflix, even Prime, dumping an entire season on our laps we forgot that this isn't common. You don't turn on FOX and boom, all 30 episodes of the newest season of Family Guy are right there shown that day. Our ADD is strong these days.
I didn't expect to understand the final act for the MCU after watching Iron Man 2. These folks need to settle down and quit being so quick to act like you know some shit.
I like it the weekly drop for new shows. I wish Netflix and others would do the same. I think for old shows or whatever yeah just drop the whole season at once.
I really enjoyed the first two episodes of this and can't wait to see how it plays out. I like trying to figure out the clues so far to see what is going on and who may be behind this. I think people just need to be patient. I think people just can't get past this is not the normal type story we see and impatient. I like the nods to sitcoms. I like trying to figure out the easter eggs.

Don’t think much of this Wandavision yet, it’s main problem being it’s really good at recreating sitcoms from 60 years ago, I just don’t really want to watch sitcoms from 60 years ago.
As predicted the more the show goes on the more shit gets revealed. All these people crying after the first 2 episodes. Trust me, I get it, but I also had to sit through 22 Marvel movies just to see Iron Man do this thing.
People be like "episode 3 was great because they finally revealed a little bit more about what's going on!"
I'm like: episode 3 was my least favorite because I thought the sitcom bits weren't as good as the first 2 episodes.

I love the full season drop, because go heavy on the details easier.
But this type of mystery show works better as a weekly drop. Heightens the tension. Not to mention that every motherfucker online would have spoiled it online the first weekend.

I couldn't get into Legion at all. I did like Runaways though.
I watched Runaways first season but didn't like it enough to watch anymore. I'm not sure if helped or hurt that I had already read the comics.
I gave up on Hollywood transcribing comics to screen verbatim 30+ years ago. They can't use everything, certain characters aren't available so they just do what they can. Sometimes the shows/movies going a different can be better or at least interesting.
Loved episode 4. The show gets better and better. Cannot wait for the next instalment.
Nice to see a more bewildering and traumatic side to “the blip”, after it was played for laughs in Far From Home.
It seems like SWORD has been up and running alongside SHIELD prior to Endgame, rather than being something Fury sets up during the events of Far From Home.
Loved seeing Woo and Darcy just enjoying the sitcom.
Vision certainly seemed aware that things were not real at the very end. How much agency does he have and how much is he going along with things, given that he seemed to be reset when the beekeeper emerged from the sewers. Was that glimpse of his dead form a trauma memory for Wanda or is she actually playing around with his body the way she is with the residents of Westview?
They want us to think Wanda is orchestrating everything, but it seems like an outside force either started it or is maintaining it in some way. On the whiteboard of people, Agnes has no ID unlike the others - she could be an established character from the comics, but it’s hard to know as the MCU like to put their own spin on classic stories. And will the person in witness protection turn out to be someone important?
Much more interesting episode yesterday. This is one of the best things about the unique situation we are in with MCU, you can just pluck a minor character from here and there and bring them centre stage in something else and not have to worry about setting up that character and slowing stuff down.
I'm enjoying this series so much. I like the slow build, but this is the perfect example of a series that should have been all dropped at once, because it's a perfect binge worthy show, but that's just personal preference.
Some thoughts and theories...
1. Wanda is reanimating Vision somehow. I think that's his actual body that she has.
2. I've heard so many rumors that Agnes is a bad guy, and that Mephisto is Ralph and the real big bad of the series, but what if Agnes is Agatha, and actually trying to help. And Ralph...what if the reason we haven't seen him is because he's actually Dr. Strange, trying to break down this world from the inside, and Wanda has him trapped somehow, which is why we haven't seen him yet.
3. I'm calling Jimmy Woo as a Skrull. What if they've been slowly infiltrating everything since the 90s in Captain Marvel... or at least bad ones. He got assigned to Ant Man, so he can help keep tabs on the heroes of the world. It also could explain why he's not affected by the memory thing or how he feels that it doesn't want him, where as others don't.
4. At the end of the series, I feel as if Wanda is going to "explode" destroying her own illusion, probably with the line "No More!" It could result in the cracking of the multiverse, but it could case the wave to go shatter and send waves of reality bending energy through the world, which is where we get mutants from. Not my theory, but I like it a lot. Only issue with it is it would mean that the X-men would not be an established group until then, but then again, starting fresh could be good.
We just started Disney+ for the month so we binged the four episodes that are out. Loving it so far. Vision's a favorite character of mine and I felt like he got done dirty in the films so I'm very happy to see him getting spotlight here. Captivating and intriguing AF. Really well done with the sitcom parodying and I like the slow burn on revealing just what in the balls is going on. Going to be tough to have to wait for a week in between but it gives me something to look forward to rather than just plowing through the whole damn show in a day or two.
I mentioned Falcon/Winter Soldier and Loki in OP because those are next up but damn, if Marvel sticks to schedule and we also get What If, Ms Marvel and Hawkeye this year... that’s a hell of a lot of content on their TV side. And then once movie theaters are back they’re going to start unloading these films every 3 months.
And I’m in for all of it. Although the first 3 shows are definitely more exciting for me than the next batch of 3. WandaVision and Loki are my top 2 for sure, with Falc/Wint slightly below them, and the other 3 lower down pending seeing a trailer.
Marvel is supposedly doing 3 or more new commercial spots for the super bowl. I imagine we’ll either get a Disney+ spot that includes Loki and Falc/Wint or they’ll each get their own spot.
I am avoiding all speculation and spoilers because I did see something about a leak of who makes an appearance (I didn't see what the leak was, but I saw people mentioning a leak). I'm trying to stay as out of the weeds on everything as possible (even avoiding Mr_Nobody's above theories) to be surprised by everything. That's the challenge of the weekly drop - I love the discussion/hype between episodes but I also don't want people telling me what's going to probably happen because either they are familiar with the source material or they know so-and-so was on set.
But I would also guess Dr. Strange just due to the already public fact that Wanda has a role in Doctor Strange 2.
That wouldn't be a Mandalorian-level cameo in my mind, but maybe she is just overhyping it.

Its hard to put it on the "Luke Skywalker" level, but I would mark the fuck out for both Quiksilvers. Feel like the show has laid the quiksilver ground already.
I like the theory that was expressed earlier. Near the end of the show, Wanda straight breaks down. Does the "no more". Starts breaking reality. Dr. Strange comes in and has to try to hold it together. Cue up the multiverse of madness".
I still don't think that its Mandolorian level though (which would mean this would be the absolute first time an actor oversold something).

Sorry folks, didn’t mean to start a spoiler tag frenzy. I’ve read everything in tags above and don’t actually think any of it’s spoilery. I mean that prediction of which major MCU character will appear is the most obvious one, and if it comes true it doesn’t mean it was a spoiler. I was just a little on edge because as I said, I saw recently that there’s a leak out there about a future episode.
Dr. Strange doesn't cut it in my opinion either. In fact, I'm kind of expecting him in the series already, and did from the fact that they said it would tie in to his next movie.
Even Quicksilver wouldn't be at that level either to me.
I don't get the Toby Spiderman either, as it wouldn't make sense for her show. For me, it has to make sense to the series, and that only leaves one person...
Magneto
Can you imagine last episode, Wanda is losing it. SWORD is closing in, and all of a sudden guns start getting ripped out of their hands, cars start flying, and in comes Magneto to save his daughter?

Unfortunately I had the Pietro appearance spoiled by a YouTube video popping up. But still a great moment. I’m wondering if this is actually Pietro from Fox - meaning that Wanda can’t recreate her own dead brother but can pull another version of him from a different reality - or someone posing as him as part of the overall manipulation. We know the MCU is heading down the multi-verse path, but they pulled a bait and switch as recently as Far From Home with this kind of stuff.
What I love about this show is how Olsen and Bettany really get to show their range. Their stand-off at the end was really tense and Olsen saying “Can’t I?” was chilling. I don’t think she started this, but she’s now desperate to maintain it.
The baby pics of Vision in the opening credits were hilarious.
It’s pretty much accepted that Agnes is a riff on a comic book character involved with Wanda, but I’m thinking there’s a further twist to come given that it’s been made so blatant that she’s different from everyone else.
I would not think that Evan Peters is the "Luke level appearance" especially seeing he was announced before the series started.
I thankfully didn't have it spoiled for me, although I thought I did, because for some reason Mephisto was trending, so I thought that was the big surprise.
So when Evan was at the door, I was surprised.
I believe that Agnes is a victim like anyone else, but at the same time, I feel as if she's fully aware of everything, and is making the little comments to try to jar Vision "awake" so to speak. Still not convinced she's a bad guy though.
I agree that she can't bring the dead back to life, which is why she can't bring her Pietra into her world. However, A Pietro is another story.
And my running theory on the commercials is the fact that they were her parents, BUT, if she can't bring back dead people, they can't be her parents... or her parents never actually died. Maybe Hydra lied to them to get them to agree to the experiments in the first place.
I did not see THAT coming. Even when my wife said "It's her brother" before they actually showed him, i didn't think it'd be that version of him. And yeah, I guess that opens the door for the X-Men to finally crossover which is pretty fucking big. Verrrryyy interesting.
It's very curious that Agnes seems to know what's going down ahead of time. She seems pretty suspect and I've heard the theory about who she might be and i could see that being the case or at the very least, that she's the true bad guy. She does seem like she might be the one that's really in control or at least influencing things in some way.
Vision is going to lose his shit when he discovers that he died and was resurrected. I know there's a Halloween episode and it'd be pretty cool if that one leaned more into horror as he comes to the realization he's basically a zombie. That brief shot on the fourth episode where we saw him as the corpse with the chunk of of his head was pretty spooky.

That the Director of SWORD is actually the big bad, possibly Mephisto himself.
It would make sense. He keeps antagonizing Wanda, and when Wanda threatened them, she seemed to be talking to him and not the rest. Afterall, why did she choose him to point all the guns at?

Yea but I think this was more of a Mando moment than that would be. This is more unexpected and more game changing. That would be pretty normal and not shocking, even though it would be cool.
Two moments stood out:
1. When Wanda exited the dome and told the feds to fuck off. Loved this scene so much.
2. When Vision called out Wanda, first in the kitchen then the levitation stand-off in the living room. What I don't get is if she's just animating his lifeless body, where is his free will/intelligence coming from? Maybe just from Wanda's own mind?
The ending was okay, I'll be honest I didn't quite remember the face of the Pietro in the MCU versus Pietro in Fox so I was kinda like wait.... who is that? Rather than being blown away by it. But now that I know.... I'm still not all that jazzed with the crossover. A couple things:
A) Said it before, but the multiverse in general is something I'm not all in on yet. I'd be perfectly content to just stay within the MCU universe. Doctor Strange 2 tackling that topic is cool because that's his bag... but Spidey, and now Wanda... to me, the idea of the multiverse generally cheapens the drama of our universe so I'm not into going down this path so heavily. But I hope my hesitations are proven wrong and this is a worthwhile story to tell.
B) Specific to X-Men, the Fox X-verse had its highs and lows and we got a ton of movies out of it and it ran its course IMO. While I love the Xavier, Magneto and Wolverine characters from there (both the old and the young versions), I don't expect them to cross over (if only because I feel like those actors are probably done with it), and I guess I'm looking at it like rebooting the X-Men in the MCU is in conflict with bringing over characters from the old X-verse. Idk, I just prefer not to think of all these hollywood studio licensing rights deals as being explained by a multiverse. I'd rather just let it be separate.
All that being said, I'll be tuned in next week to see how they explain things and I can't wait to find out.

In the comics yes Magneto is her dad. In the MCU however that is not the case. That being said Magneto is the father of the X-Men version of her brother that just showed up. So who knows what they are going to do and which way they are going to go.

It's a good question, but this is where the multiverse thing irks me. Magneto can't be her dad because Magneto doesn't exist in Wanda's universe. Her and her brother's powers were not mutant like in the comics but given to them by the experiments HYDRA did on them with the Mind Stone (Loki's Scepter).
In one universe Pietro got his powers one way, in the other universe another way. In one universe mutants caused and resolved the Cuban Missile Crisis, in the MCU universe I guess it just happened normally with no mutants? My brain can't compute all this. I mean the existence of different universes makes enough sense but then Earth should be very different not like everything is the same except Spider Man is a different guy.
Okay fine, I need to stop and let Feige do his thing. I'm sure it will be cool as it's rolled out over this show and Loki and Dr Strange 2 and Spider Man 3.
It's been getting better and better, another solid entry this week that is more of a 'setting things up' episode after a couple of weeks of us getting some answers. Really intrigued by the whole thing now.
This show knows how to make things seriously fucking creepy at a moment's notice - dead Pietro following on from dead Vision the other week. And the scene with Agnes in the car was very disturbing.
Paul Bettany looks like he's having a superb time, by the way. Great performance.
Theory stuff/maybe spoilers:
I was interested in the fixation on the road signs where Agnes was parked. She was at the crossing of Ellis and Rolling Hills. With regard to Ellis, the only thing that seems at all possibly relevant is that Matthew Ellis was the US President, played by William Sadler in Iron Man 3.
However, Rolling Hills seems like more lush ground in terms of seeking meaning/clues as from what I can see, Rolling Hills was the location of a base where someone called Master Matrix operated. If I understand it correctly, he was a life model decoy (androids designed by SHIELD to replicate living beings) and this could give some explanation regarding Vision's reanimation perhaps? I'm sure someone familiar with the comics might be able to put a bit of meat on these bones, but while WandaVision contains a lot of easter eggs, the fixation on those signs made me think they could mean more than just being an obscure reference.

I think Vision's reanimation doesn't have to do with the LMDs for one reason. As soon as he left Wanda's magic land he basically reverted back to how he would actually be. That's why she had to expand the hex so that he could come back in the "Safety" of her bubble. If he was an LMD leaving the bubble and going back in wouldn't make a difference.
So they are going to make the boys have their comic powers. Shouldn't be too surprised by that.
The stuff with Pietro was interesting, she did create it, but she doesn't seem to know why. It seems she's tricked herself into not believing Vision is dead.

Got it. So the bullet holes are from MCU Pietro, but now Fox Pietro (who never died) got sucked in and has the bullet holes on him, at least in Wanda's mind or whatever. Interesting.
I felt more like Pietro was trying to convince Wanda that she brought him there. I'm leaning towards him actually being Mephisto but there is some weird stuff pointing towards it being Hayward also. I really expect Doctor Strange in episode 9, probably right before 7 minutes of credits.
No big reveals this week, but some nice emotional depth. Wanda being unnerved by what she has done, Vision learning more about his past and his almost-final-words about helping the people trapped in Westview even as he realised that he was falling apart.
Great to see Jimmy Woo kicking ass. I’d like to see him become a Coulson-like character for the MCU TV shows.
I love all the creepy moments in this show, like the woman with the tear rolling down her cheek and Pietro’s bullet wounds. How dark will the show get? Will the town eventually be freed, only to find that some of those people on the outskirts have wasted away and died?
Both Hayward and Pietro say the word “Nightmare” this week, which has people buzzing about that character being the big bad. But Pietro/Nightmare was asking questions as if the hex wasn’t his doing. I think Wanda has been taken advantage of, but is also discovering the true depth of her powers and maybe surprising her own manipulator with what she can do and how she is keeping it going.
Bettany briefly channelling Bryan Cranston was great. What a gift this show has been for him.

If we're nitpicking maybe a few Shield episodes in the later seasons but honestly everything has been pretty damn good. Including Thor 2, but I will admit it's possibly the weakest movie-but there has to be a weakest lol.
The weakest are probably Thor 2, Iron Man 3, and Age of Ultron. And I still like major parts of those movies.
Since that time though, I don't think there's been anything I'd rank below a solid B to B+.
Replace Ultron with Guardians 2.
I hate saying that because my oldest son who is 19 told me 2 years ago that his favorite movie of all time was Guardians of the Galaxy 2. He's not super big into movies, he usually just goes because we ask him to or his gf at the time wants to see something. He's way more into Japanese anime and I guess that style of animated movies in general. So I get it if that is his favorite because it's way the fuck out there, but I mean, he's seen quite a few classics and almost all of the DC and Marvel movies.....
Does Guardians have an argument of being better than even a movie like Deadpool? Great movie, one of my top 25 I bet, but I wouldn't call it my FAVORITE comic book movie def not my all-time favorite.

I can't support the first sentence at all. It was great. Winter Soldier is a great one as well. It 20000% benefits the same way Civil War did in terms of Iron Man and Thor didn't rely so much on the other 92 MCU characters. Very very few of few of these movies only have a couple crossover characters and the ones they do aren't exactly Spider Man level. I always forget Civil War is Capt America 3. Still incredible.

Thor: The Dark World was somewhat underrated I thought. Pretty solid movie so I don't consider it a misstep.
And yea the MCU is basically unprecedented. Can't say enough about how good Kevin Feige is at this. WandaVision is so good, and I expect the next 2 series will be as well. When we get further down the road with Hawkeye, Moon Knight, She Hulk, Ms. Marvel, Armor Wars, etc, I don't expect them to all be this good. I mean they can't be, right? But I bet they won't suck, either.

SHIELD, Inhumans, the Netflix shows etc, they never felt an integral part of the MCU. These shows (well, this, and how the others are being marketed) do.
None of the shows were really essential to the MCU. Agents of Shield had Nick Fury and Maria Hill, but outside of that nothing note worthy. If I am remembering correctly, I think Lady Sif showed up as well.
A thought about WandaVision:
Would it be enough for you to just have Wanda's grief be the root cause of all this? I see article after article about "Who the Real Villain of WandaVision is", but I think that her dealing with the death of Vision is enough for me. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure if there is a big bad Marvel will do a great job with it.
I just think that Wanda is such an underutilized character in the MCU. Having her experimented on Strucker, manipulated by Ultron, and then snapped away by Thanos, she has not had a lot to work with so far. They hinted at her unchecked power in Civil War's opening scene. I think it would be a cool character arc to have her deal with her grief and then work to become the strongest member of the Avengers. The MCU already has done the mind controlled/manipulated arc a few times, so it cold be cool to see something different.
Again, Marvel has not steered me wrong, so I will enjoy the ride either way.
I agree, it would be enough for me. I haven't dove in on any of the potential mastermind scenarios people are guessing. Some of the character names I've seen thrown around, I've never heard of them anyway and I'm not eager to look them up and potentially spoil myself. So yea, I assume Wanda just created all of this because she misses her dead husband and wanted him back. That is a perfectly reasonable motivation. And I assume she is a sitcom fan, i.e watched a lot of American TV in her life at some point.
If there's some other major driving force behind this (which has been hinted at so it seems very possible), I will take it as it comes.
The MCU has been an incredible run. The weakest entries for me are Incredible Hulk and Iron Man 2, but there have been little dips and sideways steps since then. The biggest disappointment was Captain Marvel - I found it quite bland and thought that Larson was really restricted from fleshing out the character by not knowing who she was until late in the film. Guardians 2 is great fun but the tone is definitely inconsistent. Ant-Man and The Wasp is pure fluff - unless I was doing a complete rewatch of the series, I can’t imagine ever watching it again having seen it twice to date.
Thor: The Dark World has its problems but I think Hemsworth is great and I love the dynamic with Loki in the second half. It’s not as good as the first Thor, which is still one of my favourites. I don’t get why Age of Ultron is held in such low regard by some people. It’s a bit bloated and some aspects feel under-developed or choppy from the final edit. But the party at Avengers HQ and Vision lifting the hammer are two of the best scenes in the franchise. Iron Man vs Hulk is great. Vision’s last line to Ultron in the forest is perfect. Loads of great stuff in that film.
The hype and theorizing around these final 3 episodes has gotten pretty huge here. Whether it lives up to the hype or not, Feige did it again. This is an event.
Also I saw something about the release schedule which isn’t definite or anything but it basically said that Marvel will be releasing something every week for the rest of the year if the schedule plays out this way. It was like: WandaVision wraps up then there will be a “making of” release in the one week gap before Falcon, then the same thing will happen before Black Widow, then into Loki, then into What If and Hawkeye and Eternals. The movie releases are subject to change and I don’t think What If and Hawkeye have official release dates, but there is a possibility of non stop MCU in 2021.
Idk. It’s a tough decision for them. If they keep pushing it then it pushes back everything in the years to come. You may be right, but they might finally sacrifice Black Widow to the Disney+ gods to stop the log jam. Especially because who knows how these tv shows feed into the movies plot-wise.
I was a bit wary of the start, but that may be because we are now at modern televion in the sitcom arc. Monica's contact just bringing space equipment was cool but I'm sure a bunch of fan theories got thrown out the window.
Agatha's reveal was also wonderful. Kathryn Hahn is an amazing actor so I'm glad she is getting a chance to shine in a mainstream project.
Monica's power reveal was also awesome to see. The callbacks to all her apperances including Captain Marvel was great.
Teyonah Parris is killing it. I’m really enjoying how her role has developed over time.
Her scene with Wanda was strong - even though she empathises with what has happened, I liked that she didn’t forget what Wanda had done to her. Looking forward to seeing her understand her powers, now that she’s in trouble with Evil Pietro.
”And I killed Sparky too” was brilliant.
So do we think Agatha is the actual big bad or just the second-in-command? Theories already flying about Mephisto being the bug on the window (as he apparently takes a similar form in the comics) and the postman looking dodgy and following Wanda and Agatha. There’s maybe a danger of going overboard and looking for hidden depths everywhere. I didn’t think anything of the aerospace engineer that Monica mentioned and yet people seemed convinced that she was going to meet Reed Richards in this episode.
Loved seeing Bettany being goofy in his Vision form this week. I don’t think it bodes well that he seemingly can’t exist outside the hex.
