Just making my list gave me about 20 movies I now really want to go rewatch too. And I already rewatch most of my list so that is not counting those ones. But just going through the years made me find so many movies I had forgotten about but really loved. Am scared they won't all hold up but I will have to watch them at least once.

I am going to enjoy this one even more than the drama list. Thanks again @Fro.

I will be interested to see how much Adam Sandler, Mike Myers and Jim Carrey dominate this list. Feel like we could easily have 3 movies or more from all of them.

Myers is the forgotten one. I don't know if Wayne's World will make it but that was huge in the time. I think Austin Powers will make it but AP2 could easily make it too. But "So I Married An Axe Murderer" is actually his best movie.

And I could literally see every Sandler movie make the list: Happy Gilmore and Big Daddy seem almost locks. Billy Madison probably not. Wedding Singer and Waterboy probably not too but I could see them getting votes in the top 10.

I've got 12 lists submitted already. I need at least 15 to make this work. Submit to me via PM your list of Top 20 (or fewer) comedy movies of the 1990s and I will reveal Rajah's favorites.
Can you tell me if I submitted a list to you?

So I recently received lists from 3puppies, Chris and Peter Griffin which I haven’t tallied yet. I think that puts us at 15 and when I add my own list it’ll be 16. That should work but more is always better. If you want to submit, do so now!

Countdown will begin by the end of this week.

Only the 4th best Carrey comedy on my list (5th best if we would have counted Truman as a comedy). The man was on fire in the 90s. But no complaints about it being on the list.

Completely insane he released the other 3 movies all in the same year (1994)

Good comedy. I definitely enjoyed it as a kid and would say in addition to the memorable funny moments it also has a pretty good story structure, what with him needing to win his case without lying and also trying to win his son back. But yea it didn't crack my top 25.

I liked Liar Liar. Thought it was a strong little comedy. Carrey roasting the entire boardroom was awesome.

    Dogma

Synopsis: An abortion clinic worker with a special heritage is called upon to save the existence of humanity from being negated by two renegade angels trying to exploit a loophole and re-enter Heaven.

    Released: November 12, 1999
Starring: Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, Linda Fiorentino, Chris Rock
Written & Directed by: Kevin Smith

    Points: 57
    Votes received: 6
Ranked highest by: Gary J (7th)

Fact: The film's irreverent treatment of Catholicism and the Catholic Church triggered considerable controversy, even before its opening. The Catholic League denounced it as blasphemy. Organized protests delayed its release in many countries and led to at least two death threats against Smith.

I was so psyched for this to come out. The cast is great. Probably isn't my favorite of the series but a solid comedy.

Watching "What About Bob". I totally forgot about this flick making my list. Probably wouldn't have been high on my list but would have cracked the 20-15 area probably.

Dogma was so much fun. Like Jarrod said the casting is so on point. Straight-faced, relentless satire. Just great shit.

Thought I may have even had it a bit low at 10.

Any fans of "An Evening With Kevin Smith"? He tells a great story about this incident.

EDIT: I love that you can see his "Dogma is Dogsh…" sign in the interview above!

Just one of many great quotables in a great movie. Will Smith is a national treasure.

I just wish Gemini Man had been better, but every now and then for a Men in Black he has a Wild Wild West.

The first MIB was so good. Made my list. The sequels were not very good but that doesn't take anything away from the original.

Consider all the shooting that cops do these days, I do wonder how they would handle this scene.

The same exact way they handled it 25 years ago when the cops were still doing all the shooting they do today.

Men in Black was a great blend of sci-fi and comedy. The chemistry of Smith and Jones was perfect. And LOL at that shooting range scene, one of the best bits.

Tommy Lee Jones has that dry blunt sense of humor that works well in most cases with someone as colorful as Will Smith. I don't think Jones gets props for his comedic timing. Even a movie like Under Siege he had some good lines that made you laugh when you probably shouldn't have lol.

When they hit the super speed and Smith is freaking out and Tommy Lee is playing it cool, listening to his tunes, still cracks me up when I see it.

I like when Jones keeps calling Smith nicknames after Smith asked him not too. "Whatever you say slick"

The 90's were so good that I don't have any of these on my list but they were all sweet.

Dazed is a great movie. I think every generation that watches this goes "Oh man my boy so and so reminds me of him, that girl reminds me of my ex, etc."

The only thing that keeps it from truly being a top 20 is Wiley Wiggins pinching his fucking nose every 2.4 seconds.

I had it 19th on my list. Good flick. It's cool how it all takes place in one day and yet it has some really good coming-of-age character arcs, most notably with Mitch starting out as the paddling target but ending the night cool as hell and ready for high school. It's a hang out flick, a coming of age flick, a teen romp, and also really funny.

Mitch getting paddled always made me cringe when I watched this as a kid of about his age.

At my high school for about 25 years they had this group called BTIC (Big Ten In Conference=Big Ten Inch Cocks, take your pick lol) It was basically what you saw in Dazed. A bunch of older students, shit some were like in their 20's and 30's, beating your ass with paddles while drunk as fuck doing weird obstacles. One year they made the "pledges" run through a local bowling alley covered in mud wearing a jock strap.

The year I did it, we didn't do that lol. Dumb as fuck looking back on it but you got a sweet jersey with your nickname on the back. They axed that shit 2 years after I graduated because nobody really gave a shit about it. Too many run-ins with the cops and trust me, you can't get drunk enough to withstand a paddle where a dude drilled holes in it so you can hear it whistle. Literally just like what you saw in Dazed lol.

And his complete inability to even pretend to throw a baseball. But it is still one of my favorite movies ever. Been watching it twice a year for 25 years and it never gets bad.

Mitch.....It felt like they were trying to make him into some new teen heartthrob. Him, Ted Jan Roberts, and anyone in a "young teen gets involved with pro baseball" were all lined up to be the next big thing and one by one Hollywood said naw, if you're not in American Pie you don't matter lol.

In some of the behind the scenes stuff, they admit he just lied to them. Told them he played baseball his whole life but obviously never did and they didn't find out until they were filming the scene. That is why they didn't just hire an extra.

    LOL.

I always get Jason and Jeremy London confused. I always think Jason (Dazed) is also in Mallrats but it's actually Jeremy.

Ha. I know which one is Randal 'Pink' (Jason) and which one is Quint (Jeremy) but I could not tell you which one was on Party of Five. I just know it was one of them…

Tomorrow’s entry only received 4 out of 17 votes but was ranked very highly by those 4. What might it be?

It’s the last movie on the list with 4 or fewer votes.

I love The Wedding Singer and had it 4th. It was my highest ranked Sandler movie. While Billy Madison and Happy Gilmore are flat out funnier, Wedding Singer is in my view the best Sandler movie ever. It is laugh out loud funny with many hysterical moments but it is grounded and heartfelt. It is a great love story - in fact I would put this as one of my favorite 2 or 3 rom-coms ever. The ending scene on the airplane is a tear-to-your-eye sweet moment. I love how it gives Sandler a chance to use his singing ability throughout the movie.

Yea, I love it. One of the best rom-coms ever made.

This and Mr Deeds are 2 90's Adam Sandler comedies that I just never got into. I've seen them both maybe twice, and it was way the fuck back when they first came out so that could very well be why I don't really find them that great in comparison to movies like Waterboy, Billy Madison, and Happy Gilmore.

I guess I don't really consider romcoms as comedies. The Wedding Singer didn't make my list, but I agree it is one of Sandler's better efforts.

Like ND predicted, I will say it. AH FUCK I totally forgot that one.

I've only had one film so far. Never saw Dazed and Confused, wouldn't have included MIB, Dogma I saw once years ago but don't really remember it. I had just watched Liar Liar when I made my list though haha

Right there with you with one so far. Just Dogma. MIB is a genuinely good flick but I kinda can't stand Will Smith and it's enough to weigh it down relative to the ones I picked. Dazed and Confused is pretty damn funny from what I remember but I haven't had a proper watch of it in ages. And the Jim Carrey and Adam Sandler style comedy just really isn't my bag. If I land another handful by the end I'll be pretty happy and will just enjoy seeing the overall results.

Donald you should maybe take the reigns next and run a Rajah Top Horror Flicks list.. maybe?

Billy Madison is fucking great. Part of the holy trinity of greatness Sandler put out in the 90's (Happy Gilmore and Waterboy being the other 2).

I will say this, one negative about Sandler and Carrey is that too many people started trying to sound like them lol. Especially when this movie came out, holy fucking shit. Either way, great movie and I'm glad they didn't do a shitty straight to video part 2 with Rob Schneider or someone lol.

I will say this, one negative about Sandler and Carrey is that too many people started trying to sound like them lol. Especially when this movie came out, holy fucking shit. Either way, great movie and I'm glad they didn't do a shitty straight to video part 2 with Rob Schneider or someone lol.

Well now I understand what your problem has been this whole time. Lack of Billy Madison. You poor boy
Lol. Will have to watch it then.

I saw Happy Gilmore and Waterboy and thought they were both decent. I am not the biggest Adam Sandler fan, to be honest - I just find him quite annoying.

Totally understand that. I know quite a few people who can't stand the guy, especially when the movies aren't that great.

Adam Sandler became annoying for me after Happy Gilmore. Don't really remember Big Daddy too much so can't comment on that but Waterboy is some of the worst shit I've ever seen.

That says a lot because you've seen AEW

Eh I'd rather watch Waterboy than that awful Jericho/Orange Cassidy debate with Bischoff as the moderator. Goddamnit I hate AEW so much.

I enjoyed Adam Sandler on SNL, but I agree that his act can get tiresome/annoying in anything more than 10 minutes or so. So I am not a huge fan of his movies.

So far I've got Men in Black and Billy Madison. A great movie and Sandler movie but not my favorite of his.

Only the fifth best Sandler movie of the decade for me. Solid movie but others top it easily.

I have all the Billy Madison Pop Figures. They are so silly, my wife gifted them all to me a bit back.

It's too dam hot, for a penguin to be just walkin' around...I need to send him back to the zoo!

Sandler is great. I learned plenty of "smut" (my mother's word for his comedy) from that man.

She was not a fan but even she begrudgingly said Wedding Singer was great after we saw it.

Sandler had some of the best comedy albums of the 90's as well.

They're All Gonna Laugh At You was what my Mother caught me listening to, when she called it smut.

The Buffoon, The Beatings, The Assistant Principals Big Day and the tunes.

The Goat on Album 2, Stan & Judy's Kid, is still my all time favorite.

Oh man we were like 13-14 listening to this shit in my boy Frank's basement. To this day a few of us will randomly start impersonating the goat's voice lol

Or we point out "the night time is the right time"

Brought the word MILF into everyones vocab, so for that reason alone should be included.

This list is just showing me that there were too many good comedies. I'll admit, the lack of black folks in American Pie was a little sad but it pretty much represented our generation almost better than Dazed represented the 70's. American Pie and Can't Hardly Wait are movies you can show to your friends and start rattling off people that reminded you of them. I'm ashamed to admit I like Can't Hardly Wait lol.

But yeah, this movie is fucking iconic. "This one time at band camp....." That phrase made me get to know the people in band more than ever lol. Some freaky ass girls. American Pie 2 wasn't bad either. I could do without Tara Reid but other than that, good shit. Even Shermanator!

It popularized a term that became an entire genre of porn. I am pretty sure I had never heard of the term MILF before.

No other 90s comedy can claim that

American Pie 2 was okay but American Wedding was the best sequel
