When I found out Kamala and Abdullah the Butcher were just 2 normal dudes, blew my mind. They should have been tag-team champions in the WWF.
I imagine Saint Peter and all the angels in Heaven are all doing a belly slap to welcome him through the pearly gates. Great gimmick for a guy who himself admitted he did not have the very best ring skills, especially compared to the later generation,, but he understood how his size automatically made him credible.
His acting was so believable. I love the way he acted working with Taker.
I recall the interview Stone Cold did with Jerry Lawler when Lawler discussed how he helped create the cannibal gimmick. Priceless story - I wish I could find it again

One of my favourite ever gimmicks. Preferred him slightly more as the serious threat as opposed to the comedy character but he was great at both.
Couldn't half move for a big guy too, I recently watched his WWF debut and the crowd reaction when he leapfrogged his opponent was great.
Loved his theme music too.

Tbh on the surface this was a horribly stereotypical gimmick which was common for that time. Would have been definitely no-no’ed these days but the man made it work.
Also watched a Kamala vs Hogan match on Youtube earlier today too. Twas great.
I'm honestly not sure if I've ever seen a Kamala match. I've seen clips of interviews and vignettes and seen him make cameos on RAW and stuff but his active run was before I got into wrestling and I've never really dug up any of his bouts. Having said that, the gimmick/look/character always caught my eye and always I liked him from afar, so to speak.

Regarding cause of death:
Aw man, I liked Kamala. Funny thing is, I don't remember any of his matches either, but I remember his music, his gimmick, and his managers. They were a fun part of the shows.

I interviewed him twice on the phone. The first time being for my then radio show. He sent me a free shirt and autograph. I didn't even ask for either. Nice, nice guy.
He worked on top, but was rarely paid top money, which is a shame.
