Okay this a thread coming off the back of his latest singles push experiment. How far do you think this will go? It’s been discussed already but I believe it deserves its own topic anyway.

Admittedly I’ve missed his more intense side in his early days even though he’s killed the comedic side being part of the New Day. Can he beat AJ for the IC title at Summerslam? Can he sustain this momentum all the way to Rumble and Mania for the big title? In my opinion he’s definitely due and been more the company man. Can he even sustain it past Kofi’s push?

Use this thread to track his progress. Will try and bump it from time to time if anything significant happens with him

I’m on record as being a Big E fan, can’t wait to see what he can do with a singles run. I honestly think he’s Universal Championship material: he’s got the look, can go in the ring, can talk. Am excited to watch his progress as he tries to attack the solo dramatic persona, after six years of character build as a tag specialist.

Honestly, I hope all three New Day members get an extended look as singles competitors: Big E/Kofi in the Universal chase, Xavier in the IC mix. I also hope that the company can hold off on the wholly unnecessary New Day breakup; allies are a good thing and this group dynamic could really work. Plus, what better way to put over a new up-and-coming tag team than the tease of a confrontation/feud with the best tag team in recent history...

They need to ramp up the story this week if E is going to be in the IC picture for Summerslam. I probably would have started a tease of it last week but there's still time to get it going. I really can't see him in the Universal picture until there's another two champions. Wyatt is primed to get it back and then something, one way or another, is going to happen with Otis. As long as they're motivated to have Wyatt at the top, I think that makes it a little tricky in terms of booking him to grow and climb. That's not on E as an issue but he has to deal with the damage because of it. A draft in nearly two months could really shuffle the deck and change the trajectory for E in terms of the ceiling.

Big picture: I feel like New Day is going to stick around. Whether they stay as a true tag team or they find ways to reunite as they go on their own paths, there's too much chemistry and money to be made with that trio.

They shouldn’t ever break them up. They can have them go singles but still have each other’s backs and still tag now and then.

Plus with merchandise and the success of UUDD there’s no danger of them breaking up.

Can someone explain to me what's been going on with Big E? I haven't watched RAW or Smackdown in weeks, maybe months now, but I read the weekly threads occasionally and have been hearing bits about him going through a push, but not exactly sure doing what or how it started.


I also support New Day just never breaking up. I want them to always be a collective, whether they're actively wrestling together or off doing their own singles thing. You can even have moments of them having to face each other, play up the drama of the New Day breaking up, but showing that through it all the bond is stronger than anything else. They need to break the mold of WWE Tag Teams and never have the break-up angle, because they have proven they only make each other stronger whether it's in a singles or tag capacity.

Basically in storyline Kofi was injured at Extreme Rules going through a table (in reality I believe it might be self-requested so he can have family time) but he’s gone for about 6 weeks or so. The Smackdown after that, there was a backstage segment where Kofi said that now he and Woods are on the shelf that he should step up and do singles after being a team player. E seemed reluctant at first but Kofi reassured him that both he and Woods want this for him.

Push that fucking guy to the moon. He's got the look, attitude and demeanor of a World Champion. E is very well spoken too. I'd like to see them never break up and all get top title reigns eventually.

This would be great just because 9 out of 10 times the tease leads to a split. If they teased it then had friendship triumph at the end, maybe even at WM, it would be fucking great. Save this for when we get crowds back though. I want to hear that pop. I fucking miss crowd pops.

The teasing and actual staying together probably needs to wait until crowds are back. If we learned anything from Ambrose and Rollins and their reunion, the moment when everything comes to a head needs to be in front of a crowd.

Absolutely agree. Built properly, a moment where one of them's going for that big win and we're all sure that the turn's happening and they'll be cost it by another only for that to instead turn into a helping hand leading to the big win and post-match embrace...yeah, that's going to be a big ol' feel good pop if there's a crowd.
Now that Kofi's already had solo success and E's probably about to, would be great when Woods returns to be the guy that feels like the odd man out, overlooked, underappreciated, etc., and it gets to him and has been eating him up, so he's the guy that tease the turn with, only for it to end up being the realization he's the glue and the fuel for the engine, etc. Hell, maybe you have him "needs some space" from the group while he pursues the King of the Ring (his currently wrestling goal) next year and that big victory I mentioned above can be Kofi/E helping him achieve it.

Something they need to lean into again is the fact that Kingston has the wisdom to provide to E. When he was going on the shelf, Kingston told E that he needed to forge his own path. E was hesitant but Kingston told him that he needed to do this. That's going to go a long way to provide residual credibility to the big title reign for Kingston, which is sorely, sorely needed.

I said it another thread about Big E. Go back and watch him with Dolph and AJ Lee. Watch him as IC Champion. With New Day he's had very very few moments where he came across as a serious competitor. In the ring he's fine, but his mannerisms and promos for the most part are very comedy-heavy. I don't think he needs to ditch the comedy but he has to scale back on what he's been doing for the last 3-5 and bring back some of the early Big E.

AJ Styles v. Big E for the IC title isn't a bad feud and I think we will be seeing that sooner than later.
