Video game music challenge day 2- Opening stage music

I was wondering why the N64 version was so inferior music-wise and it turns out the composer quit Nintendo after they wouldn't let him release the score for the game on CD. Which he then did anyway.

And now that's a common occurrence for video games. Oh, silly Nintendo. How you create wonderful games but make odd business decisions sometimes. I do like the N64 soundtrack, but nothing on there compares to this masterpiece.

Also, before anyone else steals this from me:

Possibly my favorite SNES game of all-time. This theme has been etched in my brain for years, and I frequently find myself humming it or finding excuses to listen to it for 10+ minutes.

A bit of an obvious one but the Super Mario World theme.

    So much nostalgia.

I know most would go for Badger's over this. But I played 2 much more than I did 1. We also 100% are going to see MMH's again later on in the overworld theme music category.

Despite the title, MMH's wasn't an overworld theme as far as I'm aware.

This is both the main theme and the music for the first level of one of my favourite platformers ever.

Well, Badger took my first choice, damnit!

when Badger took GHZ, I was gonna go with Super Mario Bros, but I decided to save that game for a different day.

im gonna with the stage 1 music from Battletoads in Battlemaniacs

i used to play this game a lot at a church friend’s house when I was a kid. The music of the game always stuck out to me because it made the Battletoads seem so damn badass.

You are correct. For some reason I thought that was the overworld theme but it is just the level theme. Had it mixed up in my mind.

Does this song need any introduction?

I was thinking Battletoads today because, much like Hero said, their theme music added a lot to the Bad Assness of the Toads.

    Instead I'll go this way.

Some strong choices in here already. Loving the Sonic appreciation.

But I think wardy's winning right now. Toejam and Earl was my shit, and I started with Panic on Funkotron.

The ingenuity on show getting the best out of the Yamaha YM2612 would be seen time and time again. This isn't quite its peak, but it's damn close.

The best track from one of the most impressive soundtracks ever made. Sets the scene and matches the aesthetics perfectly.

Hmmm, technically Spiral Mountain is like the training area which is more of a hub world. In that case chalk another one up for our old mate Mario.

Great tune. SOR 2 has a great opening stage tune as well. Awesome hype songs in these games

The genesis was able to create some amazing music. Shinobi 3 has one of the best soundtracks on it

came down to two choices for me, and new junk city from earthworm jim on the snes won out.

i generally like the genesis version of the game better, but the snes version of new junk city is a bit more punchy once it actually kicks in, which is what i love about the song.

also, since i'm not going to use this game for any future entries, i also want to post stage 1 music from aero the acrobat, which was in close contention with new junk city for this thread, as well as for title screen track, since it carries over.

my best friend had this game, and we'd play it all the time. one of the many mascot platformers from the era, but it's a personal classic. there's an oddly sinister tone to this track which i love, and works well with the visual style.
